Me in my review of Milo:

Gideon gets jealous and goads Milo about Niall's big cock and how good Niall is in bed. WTF? Supposedly, Gideon was just doing this to make Milo see that he had deeper feelings for Niall, but the whole thing was super skeevy.

Also me:

Guys, I am SOLD. Gideon and Eli are my favorite couple of this series, and this book is all the things:

- Slow-burn romance

- Hurt/comfort (Eli is initially Gideon's nurse after all)

- Sizzling sexy times

- Awesome secondary characters (top prize goes to Constance, Gideon's partner in crime on the cruise ship)

- Redemption (Gideon apologizes to Milo, and it's so wholesome, my heart could barely take it)

- Family bonding (see above; also, all three couples hang out, and this made me smile like a lunatic)

- BANTER (but of course!) and humour (even if I didn't get all the cultural references, maybe because I'm not British)

- Blinding HEA (gah, could that ending be any more perfect?)

I take back what I said about Gideon. His caustic exterior hides a soft, vulnerable heart, and Eli, with his kindness, wild hair, and refusal to take Gideon's shit, is the only man Gideon wants, the only man he needs.

Arsehole of the Year award goes to Frankie, Gideon's manager, for being a vile, homophobic, sleazy dirtbag. But no worries. Frankie's comeuppance is a beautiful thing.

I'm so glad I gave Gideon another chance. You should too.

ALL THE STARS for this book and then a few more!

Wow...I really loved this book. I even love it a smidge more than " Oz ", which is saying something because I really liked Oz a lot. Gideon though, he rocked my world and so did his love interest Eli. They were absolutely awesome together. I laughed my ass off, fanned myself when things got hot, and I even cried some little tears. Sounds perfect right !!

https://www.google.com/search?q=awesome gif

Let me start out by saying that unlike a lot of others, I didn't blame Gideon for his behavior in " Milo ". For me, it was actually the other way around and I blamed (and maybe I still do) Milo for taking what was not his to take. I don't that it was just a "friends with benefits" deal between Niall and Gideon... There is an unwritten rule... you don't go where your sibling has gone and Gideon was there first so...

So I went into this book completely open. I had no grudge against Gideon and I was sure, that even though his behavior was a tad bit harsh, he had his reasons... and boy does he. He actually made me feel even sorrier for him... I knew there was a reason I loved him from the start ;)

https://www.google.com/search?q=you are wonderful gif

Gideon is not in the best of places when this book opens, and you will get to know exactly why. I felt a bit heartbroken about his sadness. Thankfully he is not alone and even though Milo and Niall are not my favorites, they do love Gideon and they do want what is best for him. His manager Frankie, however, is a real piece of work. I don't really have any nice words to say about him. He is responsible for introducing Gideon to the best thing to ever happen to him though... Eli !!

Eli was absolutely wonderful. I loved every single thing about him. He reminded me of Oz so much but for some reason... I loved him even more..can you believe that !!??

Eli is a nurse hired to look after Gideon on his way back to England and to " keep him away from coke and twinks " ...quoting Milo here 9f01372377900d9203bc4efe48eb1659

Eli was absolutely perfect for Gideon. He brought light back into his life and Gideon finally just got to be... I think the best part of this book was watching Gideon grow and coming into himself...

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2274927992829701

This author has once again blown me away and I can't wait for more !!

Highly recommended ;)

Snark and banter as far as the eye can see, folks!

We first met talented and successful, 39 y.o. actor Gideon in his brother Milo's story, where he was a selfish, over-sexed twat, leaving me slightly less than thrilled at the prospect of Gideon getting his own story, although now I can admit how thoroughly wrong I was in my apprehension.

As the story began, Gideon had ignored Milo's advice about seeing a doctor and contracted a near-fatal case of pneumonia, a private nurse was hired to care for Gideon on the old folks cruise that would take him home to England, since he couldn't fly due to a collapsed lung.

And that's where the hilarity really began.

Unbeknownst to Gideon's homophobic, asshole manager, Frankie, the nurse that he'd hired to help get Gideon back on his feet was very attractive, very male, and very G-A-Y.

But late-twenties nurse Eli's resume was too impressive for either Gideon or Milo to allow Frankie to send Eli packing, plus Eli proved himself able to stand up to Gideon's "personality", which was a must if someone were truly going to make Gideon allow his body time to heal.

Milo's strict, but simple instructions for Eli just before the ship set sail were hilarious, too, which was a prelude for great things to come.
If I want to do something, I’ll bloody well do it because the only person who tells me what to do, is me. Now, after that instruction, is there anything else you need to tell the newest member of my staff, Milo?”

Milo nods and turns to Eli. “Keep him away from coke and twinks,” he says earnestly.
I adored seeing how the previously-untamable Gideon would snark with Eli, giving in to the stubborn nurse's demands at most every turn, but usually with a good bit of clapback. Their banter was a thing of beauty, and I loved seeing that Gideon was never mean or nasty when dealing with Eli, as he would have been with pretty much anyone else on the planet.

Gideon and Eli just clicked, and seeing their slow-burn attraction and easy companionship develop, as the boat got closer and closer to England, was pretty amazing.

The two didn't give in to those feelings until 4 months after the cruise was over, when Eli had completed his next assignment, and Gideon's attractions had been confirmed as more than simple gratitude.

During their separation, I enjoyed seeing Gideon more fully connect with the guys from Oz and Milo's stories. He'd always been a part of their group, but still sort of an outsider, until then.

Another funny part from that time, was Gideon's attempt to keep himself busy, while learning a useful skill:
“I think I’d like to take cooking lessons,” I say consideringly, and Niall chokes.

“Pardon?”

“Cooking lessons.”

“For meth?”
he asks hesitantly.
OMG, Niall is fucking PRECIOUS! heh

Pretty much the *only* drama in the entire story arose from Frankie's attempts to keep Gideon under his tight control, and Eli helping Gideon overcome the nastiness whispered in his ears over the years concerning Gideon's career, should he ever come out of the closet.

Frankie was a nasty piece of work, preying on Gideon's fears and insecurities for over two decades, completely betraying Gideon's trust in the process. Seeing Frankie get his comeuppance was certainly something that I enjoyed, although, I'm not sure I would have let him off the hook quite so easily.

The steam started after the half-way mark and was what I'd categorize as moderate'ish, but the sex took a back seat to the feels in my eyes. It was there, for sure, but never overshadowed the feels.
“I just need to protect you,” and I feel something warm in my stomach at the earnestness in his words. I don’t think anyone has ever said that to me before, let alone wanted to do it. I’ve had impassioned words of longing poured into my ears, declarations of infatuation, but nothing like these simple words which are all the more touching for being plain.
If I had to find niggles about this story, I guess I'd mention that the epilogue from 7 years on was on the super-sweet side, and maybe that we never actually got to *see* Gideon actually act. I mean, he is an actor, after all, soooo... :- ?

I did thoroughly enjoy the story, and may have squee'd a bit when we got a momentary crossover with Asa from "Deal Breaker", but Oz and Milo's stories were still my favorites in the series.

4.25 highly-recommended stars.

I'm going to echo a friend's review here and say that I'm probably one of the few who didn't dislike Gideon in book two.In fact an arrogant asshole character is totally my thing.

Gideon is a hugely successful Actor who seems hell bent on pushing the self destruct button-losing himself in mindless sex and out of control partying.Almost ignored by his parents from a young age he's been guided and manipulated by his ruthless Agent for years.Too jaded to care he just goes with acting roles that are presented to him and believes his Agent's advice that staying deep in the closet is the best thing for his career. When a serious illness forces him to take time out it's a spirited nurse that slowly breaks down his defences and make him see there's so much more to life.Unable to fly to Gideon's absolute horror he's been booked to travel back to the UK on a cruise, accompanied by Eli,the nurse.

I ABSOLUTELY ADORED the first half of this book. The 'golden oldies' cruise was priceless! This is Lily Morton at her absolute best and the reason she's one of my favourite Authors. The banter, humour, and one liners were just perfect.Gideon and Eli bounced off each other in the best way.

The second half, back on dry land, was just a little bit too sweet for my taste here.Still, though,I really enjoyed Gideon and Eli's story.A great addition to this hugely enjoyable series. And the inclusion of the other couples in this series added perfectly to the story.

I need more stars. I also need to learn not to drink tea at the same time as I read a Lily Morton book because this one nearly killed me five times in the first 20%.

Redemption stories are probably one of the highest forms of kryptonite for me (it comes in a variety not just the green one 😉 ) and with Gideon, Lily crafts one that works so well because, when we actually get to know Gideon, it's not really a redemption so much as a realisation.

Gideon is a little boy lost, in his heart he's still a seven-year-old being parcelled off to boarding school by two parents who were too busy for him, but not too busy when his younger brother Milo came long just three years later.

He's found fame as a top Hollywood actor, but it's come at the hands of a Machiavellian manager who I wanted to eviscerate slowly. I don't think I've hated a character with as much venom as I did Frankie for quite a while (apart from Peter in Annabelle Jacobs' Wounded Soul because he was just evil!)

But Eli, oh he was such a gem of a character, I could hear his Welsh lit in the words he spoke, his kindness, his snark - because this wouldn't be a Lily book without a snappy retort and lots of sarcasm - and the unfailing way he just got Gideon.

He saw inside to the hurt boy and he nurtured the love that Gideon was desperate to share but didn't know how. And let me tell you, when Eli takes Gideon to bed the first time that scene is everything!

This book explains so much about why and how Gideon became the closed off, surface selfish man he appears, but the truth is so very different.

There're the usual awesome contributions from the rest of the Cornish cast and the way they rally round Gideon is really special to read, especially given how he behaved like an arse the last time he was at Chi an Mor.

Grumpy Gideon falling in love might just be my favourite thing I've read from Lily (until she gives me that rare breeds farmer she keeps promising).

As a PS, I still find it hilarious Lily hadn't realised that when placed side by side, the Finding Home series titles spell out OMG 😉

I have to say I liked Gideon much more than in the previous book. The first part of the story was really fun. I liked the banter between Gideon and Eli. I also liked the emails they exchanged after the cruise.

But there were a few things that affected my overall enjoyment of the book. In no particular order:
*minor spoilers ahead*

Name dropping. Not my favourite thing in books, and there was a lot of it here.

Frankie. I've noticed a bit of a pattern in this author's books – there's always an "evil" character for us to hate on. Here it's Frankie. But it was hard for me to hate him with passion when his character was so one-dimensional, superficial and unrealistic. Villains need depth, too.

Eli's dirty talk. Just my personal preference because I don't like it and I find it very off-putting. Also, considering how romantic and overly sweet and fluffy the rest of the story was, it felt like someone swapped the book I was reading with a really bad porn.

The epilogue. I'm not a fan of epilogues that take place years in the future. To me they usually feel detached from the story, like there's something missing in between. This one was also too sweet for my liking.

AUDIOBOOK- Joel Leslie - Aug 2020
Wait until you hear Joel doing a lunch party with 6 characters in the scene!! Genius! ❤️❤️

I LOVED his lilting, Welsh, sultry voice for Eli!! 🔥🔥So hit & bossy in bed when he finally pops Gideon’s cherry 🍒😱😱

ORIGINAL REVIEW- June 2019
Snark & Fluff.....DELICIOUSNESS!!!

I’ll be brief: I loved this book up until the epilogue where I got told a whole bunch of stuff repeatedly to make sure I really got the fact that there is a super strong HEA. I GOT IT.

The actual book ROCKED! There was tension, snark, a hot nurse, a cranky movie star, a sassy old lady, and HOT AF SEX!!

Gideon was awful in the previous books, but here we see him hit rock bottom and crawl out of the abyss/closet with the help of Eli.

Eli surprised me in the bedroom (talk about bossy!!!!) but as wonderful as he is, this is Gideon’s story and it’s a great one!

I can’t wait until this series comes out in audiobook!!

This might be my favorite from this author! I absolutely loved the writing and this book really delivered!

It's the third book in the Finding Home series by Lily Morton. I loved the first book, Oz. I haven't read the second book, Milo, but Gideon's story was amazing.

Gideon is a 39 years old famous actor. He's wealthy and lives a very unconventional life, partying and having fun to the extreme. He is destroying his body and he's not really enjoying the partying. It's just what he knows. In the eye of his public he's straight. But he is really afraid of coming out because his agent has told him for years to keep his sexuality hidden.

Here comes Eli Jones a very sweet Welsh nurse. He's everything Gideon isn't. Funny, optimistic and very kind. But he has morals and he would never get involved with one of his patients.

This story made me laugh out loud many times. I absolutely adored the banter between Gideon and Eli.

"Oh my God", he says faintly, "Were you burgled?" He pauses. "Could they find anything? Did you have to help them look?"
I laugh helplessly. "Shut the fuck up. I'm messy. Deal with it."
"I can seen now where the not keeping lots of clothes comes in. The ship would have probably sunk under the weight of all this."

This book can be read as a standalone. But I loved revisiting Oz and Silas and after reading this one I can't wait to read Milo and Niall's story. I bet it's going to be amazing too.

It's been a pleasure to witness Gideon's coming out. I love age gaps in stories and I really enjoyed the secondary characters.

The ending is so sweet! I highly recommend this one. It's low on angst, a slow burning and a super HOT story!

This story was my favorite of the series so far.

I was worried about liking Gideon. He was such an absolute douche in Milo's book that I feared I wouldn't be able to invest in him. I'm glad I was wrong.

Gideon is a Hollywood actor who's been brainwashed by his agent since he was a teenager. Being gay is not compatible with being famous. Gideon has been hiding himself for so long, that he's been acting out in other ways. What's a little coke and shared sex partners between friends?

After a very close call in the hospital, Milo steps in and puts his foot down. Between his brother and his agent, Gideon is well and truly "handled", and he has to recover with his own personal nurse, aboard a cruise ship home, because his lungs can't handle flying after his illness.

Part one of the story - the cruise: this was the gem of the book! A solid 5 stars! Lily Morton delivers her trademark snark and banter, and I couldn't have smiled more. Eli doesn't let Gideon wallow in self-pity, and Gideon doesn't always appreciate Eli's Ray-of-Sunshine demeanor. The two snipe at each other constantly, always in a good natured way, and it was glorious. This type of banter, where you can literally see the foreplay happening, just totally does it for me. The UST was very well done.

Part two of the story - after: this is where I'm waffling. I've noticed this pattern with Morton. As I said above, she NAILS the relationship buildup, the UST. Anytime there's angst, she nails that too. But once her characters get together...…..she loses me. They often turn super sugary sweet. And that kinda happened here too. It's not that I don't like this, in moderation. But if you cross a certain threshold, I just don't like too much of it. She kept the angst going, with the storyline about the agent, but with all of the crew metaphorically linking arms and singing Kumbaya, it crossed that line for me. I was bored from the sugar rush.

Overall, I like this a lot. Part one of this book was 5 stars and the very reason I read this author. I just hope, personally, we get the sweetness dialed back a bit in the future.

Nice addition to the series. I wasn't sure it was possible for Gideon to redeem himself. But he did.

As other reviews have mentioned, the two parts to the story definitely had different feels. The first part on the cruise was full of witty banter (a bit repetitive, if I'm being honest) and some good UST. I enjoyed Gideon and Eli's banter back and forth.

The second part after the cruise was full of rainbows and unicorns. I can appreciate that there was no manufactured drama. But things were a bit over the top sweet.

An overall solid, enjoyable read though. Lily Morton is definitely an auto-buy author for me.

Oh, I absolutely adored this. After the last book, Gideon wasn't looking very good, not good at all, so I was wondering how Ms. Morton would redeem him and make him an enjoyable character. He really was an asshole in Milo's book.

But of course she was able to redeem him and more. Getting a character's POV and understanding their motivations and thoughts and desires really changes things. (Sometimes not if they're just a plain asshole, but most of the time it helps a lot - it certainly helps with Gideon.)

I understood him so much better in this, because before while it was understandable that Milo and Gideon's parents doted on Milo and barely thought of Gideon, that didn't make it fair for him to take it out on Milo, especially when Milo was nothing but sweet. But they get more scenes in this book and we learn it was more than what the other thought on both sides. For Milo their mother was actually smothering more than loving, and Milo points out good things Gideon has done for him, that Gideon wasn't always an asshole to him.

Plus, I really felt just how abandoned and alone Gideon truly felt in this. It doesn't excuse his behavior, but he apologizes for his actions in this and betters himself, which is what is most important when someone screws up. Gideon wanted to change, so he did - he wanted a better life for himself, so he did that. He wanted to be a better brother, friend - and then lover - so he did. But you really get how lonely he's been all this time in this book.

He drowned his loneliness in drugs, alcohol and meaningly sex, but it was never what he really wanted, but he was too scared to admit that and try to have a better life because to him he didn't deserve a better life and no one wanted him anyway, so what was the point? Even with Niall and Silas and Milo, he felt like he was on the outside looking in, like he didn't belong.

But Eli changed all that, with his kindness and firmness, and not putting up with Gideon's shit for a second. Even when Gideon tried to be an asshole to him, Eli held firm, and continued to be sweet and kind, and that through Gideon for a loop - enough for him to let Eli under his defenses.

I loved these two together, they were perfect together. Eli was patient and kind and never wavered, and he supported Gideon when he needed it most, and he got Gideon on the right path without even truly trying - I mean he wanted good things for Gideon, but I don't think it was a conscious thing for him to get Gideon to permanently stop his pervious lifestyle and change for the better - and Eli saw in Gideon a kindness, a goodness, that Gideon didn't believe he had, and showed it to him. Gideon made Eli happier than he had ever been.

The sex was also hot AF - I wanted so much more of it because these two were smokin' together - and their connection was amazing. The fact that Eli was something new in the bedroom that Gideon never knew he needed was a plus too.

I loved the other two couples from the previous books being so supportive of these two as well and being their awesome selves. (Also a short phone call appearance by Asa Jacobs from the Mixed Messages series - and probably my favorite Morton book to date - which was a nice surprise.)

I loved how things turned out for these two and how Gideon got to where he was - especially with the epilogue, that was years in the future as Morton does with her books. Eli was an important part of this story too, no doubt, as he was the primary reason for Gideon's change, but it was mainly about Gideon finding family, friends and a home.

To see where he was at the beginning, feeling so lonely and like no one wanted him, to where he was at the end with a plethora of love and family in his life, never to be lonely again? Was perfect. I absolutely adored it.

This book was just perfect, and I can't wait for more from this amazing author. I just love all of her stories, they make me so happy reading them, and they're always so well written with great main couples. I wonder who the next book will be about, and wonder if it will be in this series or we'll get a new one. There was Jesse, Eli's best friend, so I wonder if he's never. We'll see ;)

HIGHLY recommend this, it was amazing. Two massive thumbs up from me!

4.5★'s Rounded Up for that fucking beautiful Epilogue.

Hello! I was part of the I hate Gideon Fan Club like so many of my friends after reading Milo. There was just NO WAY his book was going to change my mind. I mean, really, Milo's book lost a star because of him! My review started out talking about him because I hated him so much and he took something from the book in my opinion.

I didn't even want his stupid story.

Well, fuck me.

Guys, I am allowed to be wrong right?

I think I kind of like Gideon now? I still don't think his behavior was warranted, ok, forgivable or well, at all redeemed in his book but I get him more now? I can see why even if he shouldn't have done it? Yes, stop using question marks. Yes, I can see why and I get him now.

This was such a great freaking book. It was honest and I think that is exactly how it needed to be. I think we needed to feel for Gideon but not so much that we pitied him. The whys from when he was a kid are sad and wrong but a lot of his grown up behavior is his own and he should have known better or at least done better. So yeah, it was real and I didn't feel sorry for him but I did feel sad for him at times.

And I ended up really liking him because of this. I didn't think I would but I did.

Let's stop and talk about Eli for a moment. I loved that they were so very different but their foundations had a certain similarity that brought them together. I loved his caring nature and I loved his snark. He was a perfect match for Gideon and honestly, nothing but that would have worked in this story. He was a healer in all shapes and forms and there was no way not to fall in love with him.

I loved his trip to Dubai. As a person who hates separations in her romance novels, I freaking loved this one. It was smart. So very smart.

I loved that the gang was all here and well represented. I loved getting to see how happy they all are.

What else is there to say? I was wrong. Gideon is redeemed or at least now well liked. Lily Morton has easily become a favorite author and her books just keep getting better and better. Now she just needs to write faster.

Anyone else think we are getting Eli's roomates stories next? Hmmm?

Every time I think I have a favorite Morton book another comes along and blows me away. Another surprise was Gideon himself. I never anticipated him to elbow his way to the top. I can honestly say that I didn’t care much for him (at all!) when we met him in the previous book. And one of my weaknesses is when an author turns my disdain into respect tinted with adoration. As it turns out, I absolutely adore Gid and his prickly exterior and soft warm heart. Luckily for us, he has a story. Sadly, it starts out rather grim. Gideon has felt the cold shoulder from almost everyone in his life, except for his brother (recent change) and his besties. The rest of the world can sod off as far as he cares. No one has ever given him any reason to feel differently. Until….until Eli. Eli sees straight through his disguise and into his soul. Eli doesn’t coddle him or sugarcoat anything, he tells Gideon like it is, even if he’s being a tart. Life has been cold and hard for Gideon. His health plummets and Milo steps in and demands he make changes. Niall especially enjoys Milo when he’s bossing everyone around. *smirk* But yes, Gideon is forced to rest and get well. His personal nurse will see to it. In the process of helping him restore his health, Eli helps him restore his broken heart. Their journey isn’t smooth sailing by any means but I enjoyed every step along the way. I’m fairly confident you will feel the same.

What's to like: Gideon has fallen and crashed all the way to rock bottom. He’s a mess. He thinks the only person that truly cares for him, Frankie, will patch him back together as he usually does. But this time, his brother appears and pleads with Gid to get better. Grudgingly he agrees and can’t deny part of the allure might be his new nurse. Eli does something to him. He lights up this part of himself that he never knew existed and it’s exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. The cruise ship that is taking him home is full of blue hairs. No drinking and no drugs typically equate to no fun in his world but for the first time, he doesn’t want to get lost in the haze. He yearns to be present and when the ship docks, he’s not the same man that boarded. Not because of his physical recovery. No. Gideon reclaimed his soul and revived his heart. It was beautiful.

What's to love: Eli is easy to love. Gideon became easy to love. And what I enjoyed most was…Morton didn’t use Eli as a magic wand, making Gid a better person. He was only the instrument that made Gideon want to make himself better. Which boils down to the old saying that you can’t love anybody else if you don’t love yourself first. Gideon was miserable and tired. Tired to pretending he didn’t care, tired of hiding, tired to being denied. Eli could see the potential of what Gideon was concealing and wanted to help him free the brilliant Gideon he knew was there. There were tender moments and snarky moments and of course, burning hot moments. Whew! Talk about intense sexual tension and extreme build up…I think we were all about to burst! One of the many reasons that Lily excels at her craft is her uncanny ability to balance things. I know I will swoon, laugh, and lose my breath every time I open one of her books. Which is why I keep coming back! It was simply marvelous seeing the rest of the gang. The patio barbeque was one of my favorite scenes. And the epic ending lifts my heart and lights up my face every time I recall or reread it.

Beware of: A fortress protecting a heart is slowly demolished. Bubbly banter. A simmer that will keep you warm until it catches fire. And an ending that will leave you begging for more.

This book is for: Finding Home fans were most likely awaiting the release as I was, but if you haven’t read this insanely amazing series yet, you really really should. Start at the beginning and enjoy the ride, I promise you’ll be cheering alongside the rest of us.

**Also, don’t miss out on the charming bonus Lily has on her website….When Gideon Met Asa

Well, well, well! What a surprise this was, and so good too. See, I knew that Gideon ran deep. I knew there was a lot going on behind that hard, bravado and I was soooo right and I floved him. He totally bowled me over with how he was with Eli .... his vulnerability, his honesty and even his insecurity. He couldn't hide a thing from Eli.

If ever two characters were meant to be it's Gideon and Eli.

My favourite book of the series by a million stars and Lily Morton is fast becoming one of my favourite authors.

5 stars!!! 🤩💞Absolutely L❤️VED it!! I'm so happy that Gideon got a chance to redeem himself and all the disappointment I had felt after reading Milo has now melted away🤩. This is what I wanted💕.. and this is exactly why I am such a fan of Ms Morton and her brilliant writing😍. She weaves these characters who have such personalities, ego, humor and fervor that you get swept away in their story and start rooting for their HEA as if it's your HEA. 🤩😍
Gideon is the ultimate bad boy, but we already knew that (book 2: Milo). What we didn't know was how sad and lonely his life has been despite the fame and fortune💔😢. Living as a closeted gay man in the film industry; he fears the repercussions of coming out mainly due to his parasite of a manager👹. Decades of living in denial has made his life a toxic blend of drugs, alcohol and scandals 😬; which is where we find him in the very first chapter of the book, on a downward spiral with no exit strategy. His serious illness 🤒serves as a wake-up call for him to revaluate his life, people he is surrounded with and the people who he considers as his family. And then, he meets Eli, 🌈😇his spirited and zealous nurse who has been charged with his care while he recuperates and regains his health. He tries to be grumpy and demanding to make Eli's job difficult, but his acerbic personality is no match to Eli's enthusiasm. Eli's ready wit disarms Gideon's barbs and slowly day-by-day they start to open up to each other. Despite such different lives, they find common ground while discussing family burdens. But soon enough, their mutual attraction starts to impact their friendship and what had started out as a close bond between a patient and his care-giver slowly starts to morph into something more.💞💗
However, just because Gideon is willing to restart his life does not mean his professional and personal problems will disappear. Can he live a simple life while recuperating in the country without sliding into old habits? Will Eli and Gideon be able to re-capture the magical connection between them after living apart for months? Will Gideon find the strength to reject his manager's half-truths and be honest about who he is to the world? With such disparate personalities, what will their HEA look like?

"I have dined in the fanciest restaurants, seen the wonders of the world, and lived with riches that few ever attain, but here in this small room, in this man’s arms, shuffling to a beautiful song, I’m happier than I’ve ever been."

As expected from a Lily Morton book; there's plenty of humor, sass and witty banter as well as oodles of sizzle and steam💞🔥 But inherent to the story is Gideon's metamorphosis 🦋and you cannot help but cheer him on as he steps into the light 🌅with Eli. 🌈💖😍 Highly recommended to all fans of Ms Morton and M/M readers who are looking for a story about redemption. 👍👍

Gideon is Milo's brother from book #2 and he wasn't a very likeable character when we met him. He had some unresolved issues and handled the knowledge of Milo and Niall's relationship in a horrible way.

In this book we get his story. We get to know him pretty well and get some answers about his behavior. You see, in reality, Gideon is an extremely lonely guy, he craved attention and to be wanted. All his life he felt he was a bourden to those around him - especially his parents who sent him away for school at seven and then all but forgot about him - and like he didn't deserve love. What he wants most in the world is to feel connected to another person, to finally have a real family who wants him close by.

Eli is a nurse for wealthy people, he travels a lot with his job, he's a lot younger than Gideon and he is relaxed about most things. After a mix-up with his name, he ends up accompaning Gideon on a cruise and helping him recuperate from pneumonia.

The first half of the book was really good, their banter was hilarious, Gideon's grumpyness was evened out by Eli's possitivity and there was a hint of a slowburn. All in all, it looked like a sweet deal.

And then the actual swettness started and wouldn't stop. Once the two got together and started dating it was like the story got dipped in sugar. I don't like fluffy stories and I stay away from sweet stories if I know about them. Unfortunately, this time I wasn't prepared and I thought I was just getting the snark that this author delivers so well. I did get that, fortunately, but I also got kisses, and premature "I love yous" and insta-relationship.

I can honestly say that I enjoyed reading their emails to one another when they were apart more than I enjoyed actually seeing them together as a couple. What happened after the cruise made me think I was on the right track to have a great story in my hands. However, the thing after the cruise lasted only a few pages and then the sugar was everywhere.

A couple other things that bothered me:
- the unrealistic cruise. The distances were ridiculous. They made it from the Mediterranean side of France to Southampton in ONE day! How is that possible? Did I not understand something right in the story?

- Frankie. This character couldn't have been more one-dimensional and cartoonish even if he tried really hard. He was evil and unbelievable. He was Gideon's manager, the one who discovered him and helped him along all these years. Gideon saw him as his only family and a very close friend. One to trust, respect and value. I don't know where he based all those things though it was mentioned that Frankie was different in the past and had drastically changed over the last year. Still, his portrayal was very black and white and every bad thing he could have done he did it. I was very frustrated that there was a character like that in the story for the sake of drama - because why else would someone like him be there?

-the references. Was I supposed to know all those people they mentioned? Well, I didn't and I couldn't be bothered to search for them in order to get the joke. That's something I have noticed in previous books by this author and I always just overlooked it but I wanted to mention it this time. It didn't affect my rating but it did bother me while I was reading.

It's clear that Lily Morton has a knack for writing banter and characters that clash but are drawn together. I enjoy her writing style very much and even though this book wasn't my favorite and didn't really work for me, I'll still keep an eye out for her books and look forward to the next couple bitching their way to a HEA.

Reread February 2020

Enjoyed this a lot again, but still find the ending a bit over the top (sweet). However, the banter is simply glorious and very clever.

original review

Sassy snark. Boisterous banter. Relentless ribbing.

Gideon has all that and more.
Lily Morton has wielded her legendary skills of hilariousness and humour and outdone herself. Gideon is giving Gabe (from Lily Morton’s Rule Breaker) a run for his money. And for me they’re head to head.

Gideon is 39 and has never ‘been allowed’ to be himself. Only few people really know him. Like one or two. And one of his survival techniques is grumpiness. And snark. And being irritable.

“Am I here? I demand. “Or is this heaven? Because if it is, I want my money back. It’s a terrible place.” (Gideon’s reaction upon joining a cruise for seniors)

(Niall on Gideon surviving a serious bout of illness) “Oh my God, you come back with compassion. It’s like Simon Cowell has morphed into Mother Theresa.”

(Eli’s summary) “You’re like a thirty-nine year old toddler,” he says wonderingly. “You’ll need a nap soon and a short stay on the naughty step.”

(Gideon) “I think I’d like to take cooking lessons, I say consideringly, and Niall chokes. “Pardon?”
“Cooking lessons.”
“For meth?” he asks hesitantly.

So, Gideon is quite the bad boy, and he’s certainly intent on pressing the self-destruct button quite heavily at the beginning. Which hides what’s really getting to him – that he can never be in public who he really is. A gay man.

Just as well that Eli, the nurse who is looking after Gideon after his epic almost dying incident, is basically laid back horizontal and virtually unflappable, despite being 12 years his junior.

(Gideon’s reaction to Eli) He’s also vaguely irritating with his sunny obliviousness to bad moods. Like he’s made of Teflon.

And that’s it – Eli will not be phased by Gideon whatever he throws at him, they simply get on. Their verbal sparring is first class and one of the best I’ve read. And I loved Eli for his kindness and the way he sees through Gideon right from the start. And how he wants to protect him rather than judge his behaviour.

This was fabulous fun and full of feels, and meeting Oz, Silas, Milo and Niall again was just the icing on the cake. And behold – there is also a short cameo of Asa!

Loved all of it, and what else to say but “Thank God for pneumonia and dissolute living! “

The fact that Lily Morton got me to not only like Gideon, but fall in love with the character is really all I need to say in this review. Gideon meets his match in Eli and I adored them together.

Full of the same feels and snark that made me love the series from the start, Gideon was another win from this author.

While I liked this, I wasn’t blown away.

I loved the first book because Oz was just so funny. I skipped the second book because I would have hated the drama. And I had really high hopes for this one, but it was a but dull tbh. I didn’t laugh even once. The humor and crazy situations I loved so much in Oz were completely missing in this.

Not that this was bad, because it was a nice, light, sweet book. There was no relationship drama or fabricated angst, so I did like that. I think I expected it to be more like Oz. I was just a bit bored with this one.

I guess the only book I’ve ever liked of Lily Morton is in fact Oz. So that might have just been an anomaly.

This might just be my favorite of the entire Finding Home series up to date and I don't even like Gideon when I met him in Milo's book. In fact, when I realized he will have his own book, for the first time I'm not counting down the days for a Lily Morton's release. I'm not surprised that the great, Ms Morton can change my mind, but I'm surprised that I love this book so much.

Gideon is a closeted celebrity and a total twat. The story begin with him at his lowest point in life, but he still have his snark and silver tongue when it comes to facing his brother and the limited friends he had. I might actually find it funny if he is younger, but being a tantrum throwing 39 year old man isn't attractive. I was thinking 'grow up, Gid. Stop being a wanker'.

In came a Mary Poppins/Florence Nightingale in the form of Eli Jones to salvage the mess that is Gideon Ramsay. From the get go, Eli is a breath of fresh air. With Eli's charm, quick wit and endless patience, he manage to tame the wild and restless Gideon. I enjoy their daily banter despite Gideon mostly act like a grumpy old man or a child who was told he can't have candies anymore. The subtle changes from a total rebellion to reluctant obedience is fun to read.

However, the major turning point in the story is definitely the reunion with them finally able to act on their feelings. Eli is usually all laid back and chill, but turn oh-so-forceful in the bedroom. That totally came as a surprised. They are totally burning up the sheets and I'm moaning along. Definitely need an audio for this.

There are so much growth on Gideon's character that I'm just in awe with him. Along the way I'm holding my breath just dreading the moment he might do something stupid and ruin everything, but thank goodness I underestimate his new found maturity. It just warms my heart to see both him and Eli wanted the best for each other and willing to go the extra mile to work on their relationship.

It shouldn't go unmentioned that the rest of the cast, Oz, Silas, Milo and Niall are some prominent supporting characters that added so much to the charm of this book and the series itself. A must read series!

p/s: There are a lot of character reference in this book, which I had no idea is fictional or not, but make me feel like a total noob because I don't understand all the hidden meaning.

Gideon by Lily Morton gave me all I've come to expect from a Lily Morton book:

Romance ✔

Laughter ✔

Longing ✔

Feels ✔

We first met asshole Gideon in Milo. He's Milo's older brother who came across as a self-centered and jaded actor. At the beginning of this book, it's safe to say this deep in the closet actor has hit rock bottom. A nurse- sexy, good-natured, Welsh nurse is hired to get him on the mend. What neither expects is for their humorous sparring to grow into more- except anything beyond friendship is strictly against the rules.

Some highlights:

-Opposites attract. Who doesn't love a budding romance between a jaded, cynical person and an optimistic one?

-Banter. I found their word sparring equal parts humorous and sweet.

-I loved the character growth in Gideon. Yes, Gideon was battered from his childhood, but I was happy that LM didn't use it as a crutch to excuse bad behavior and instead his healing came from within. He wanted to change and believed he deserved happiness.

-Slow burn. Can we UST with all capital letters?! The wait was well worth it!

-Friends to lovers.

-I loved that we got to catch up with some old friends from previous books- and see everyone is well. :)

-And the epilogue was super sweet and romantic.

Lily Morton has another winner in her hands. This author has become one I always look forward to reading, and I may or may not do an internal squeal when her book hits my kindle.

4 Stars

P.S. I hope a particular friend we met in Dubai will be next. *wink, wink*

Gideon is the perfect example that money/fame/success doesn’t equate to happiness. His life sucks and I get why he’s killing himself in every way imaginable without actually killing himself.

Ugh, Frankie is the slimiest bigot I’ve ever had the displeasure of meeting.

Gideon never feels at home anywhere … because home isn’t a place.

I’m really gonna miss Chi An Mor when this is all over. Plus I suppose I’ll also miss the ragtag group of miscreants that call her home.

I love grumpy, sarcastic people so I can’t understand why Gideon and I don’t click. Is it because I’m holding onto animosity from how he treated Milo? Possibly but I don’t think that’s all it is.

I do enjoy the dynamics of their romantic relationship. Too often we’re set in cookie cutter roles, where the older man is the more dominant. In this case, Eli is younger but takes on the more controlling role and I find that incredibly hot.

Holy smokes, that is no doubt the hottest sex scene I’ve ever read in one of Lily’s books. 🥵

So this is unequivocally that take as old as time where the love interest makes the little shit a better man. Vulnerability and acceptance and slowly but surely Gideon is finally starting to grow on me.

Oh, the irony of the non-disclosure! 🤪🤣

With all honesty, this one didn’t give me all the warmth and fuzzies that I was overwhelmed by in its predecessors; Oz and Milo. That is, until I got to the epilogue. Unfortunately it wasn’t due to what was between the men but for their family. But that’s still a win in my book.

There's a reason why Lily Morton is one of my favorite authors. I swear, every time she writes a new book it's better than the last and ends up being a new favorite.

Gideon is full of humor, snarky banter, amazing characters and an even better story. I loved how well the story just flowed and kept a smile on your face.

The chemistry was all there and I'm glad I gave Gideon a second chance. I wasn't sure how he was going to redeem himself after the last book. If you're a fan of Lily this book will be right up your alley. Highly recommend!

“Well, I’m close now, Gid, so how do you feel about that? I think I’m the closest to the real you that anyone has ever been. Am I?”

“You are,” I whisper.

“Why?”

“Because you slipped through, and now I don’t want you to go back.”

Just when you think that Lily Morton has perfected the art of formulaic writing, she throws a slight curveball that has you appreciating that even the slightest of changes can make a difference. And while it really isn't much to brag about, it still offers another take on what could be a generic story for some; but if you look at it about how all the previous characters were searching to find a home, it was in this case, where Gideon already and always had a home - he just didn't know it - till the right man came along to show it to him. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I’ve never felt like this about another man before, and it’s so fucking typical that it’s the one man I can’t have.

Is it a problem that it is someone much younger than him - a handsome and caring soul who has magic fingers and magic words that make him feel better and heal his heart more than anyone else has ever made him feel in all his thirty-nine years? Does it matter that it is someone that he may have to hide from the public eye, because as his manager, Frankie, doesn't hesitate to remind him repeatedly that he is responsible for the illustrious career he's had and if so much as a blip comes out that he's gay, he'll lose everything faster than you can say gay? 😥 Does it bother him that out of all the people he's shared a bed with - be it one, two or more at the same time - no one has made him feel as treasured and protected as this 'this poetic, perennially cheerful Welsh man who makes me feel safe'? Learning to admit that none of it does, overcoming the fears that prevent him from embracing his heart, stepping forward to face the challenges that may come when it comes to his love, reminding him that it is not too late to live a life- is what makes Gideon finally able to give his heart to someone who will be his 'North Star - not because he’ll guide me home from my travels, but because quite simply he is my home.' 🌟💞💞

Poetic introductions aside, Lily Morton nicely rounds off her Finding Home series with Gideon finding his happiness with Eli, his twenty-seven-year old nurse, who's hired to be his caregiver as Milo and Niall book him on a luxury elderly cruise, so that he can recuperate in peace after being attacked with a deadly case of pneumonia. But, it's not only this recent sickness that has overworked Gideon - it's that general feeling of being overwhelmed by life, itself - 'weak, drained, old, and tired. So very weary.' But, Eli has this innate way of relaxing him - calming him - allowing him to take life in stride without burdening himself with his own senseless thoughts. 'I want to grab the memories and greedily drink them in, but he pulls me closer, and I’m blind once again to everything but this man.' And despite respecting the boundaries of not mixing business with pleasure, neither can deny the mutual attraction they feel for each other - the instant feeling that something is between them - a connection that makes both of them feel more comfortable and understood in each other's company unlike anything they've ever felt with someone before. 🫂💌 Eli's denial and resistance was admirable, but so, too was Gideon's yearning for wanting someone more than just falling into bed, as has been the case his entire life. Never one to settle down - hopping from one quick fling to the next - the desire to nurture and savor and respect Eli was unchartered territory for him - even when the ship docked on land.

Was that wrong what we did?” I say softly. “Was I what you needed, never mind what I needed?”

He tenses and sits up, pulling my face gently to look at him. His expression is earnest. “You were everything I needed, Gid. I’ve never had sex like that either. It was right and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it.” He pauses. “Do you believe me?”

“Yes,” I say slowly, taking his fingers and tapping over my heart. “In here I believe you.” I sigh. “It’s just the rest of me that might struggle to catch up.

And I liked then how they took their relationship from there - Gideon slowly healing - making the distance between them show how absence can make the heart grow fonder - so that when they finally reunited - I was happy Gideon was having the chance to truly be happy. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 Eli was so supportive, so defensive in shielding Gideon from any hurtful comments to his mind or harmful actions to his health. He was so understanding of how vulnerable Gideon felt to be in this position - trusting someone with the knowledge that he's hid from the public eye for so very long - fearing always that if it ever came out that he was into other men, he could kiss his career good-bye. But, maybe some sacrifices are worth it, when other kisses can be so much more pleasurable - mean so much more to him than just seeing his name onscreen or attached in a big project. ’That means I’m in charge in here and you let go. You let everything go, because you’re safe with me.’ 🥹🥹 Eli really was the perfect match for him; so domineering in bed, but still so reassuring of Gideon's needs - reminding him always that he would take care of him - that he wanted to. He was so serious about his role as his nurse, so very patient in taking care of him - making sure he was healthy and happy. I know it wasn't exactly ethical what happened at first, but I liked that Lily M. allowed it to develop in a way for their relationship to feel more dynamic and believable. He was so kind and caring towards Gideon - knowing that it is a new place that he's in - both in mind and the heart and never pushed him. It's that strength he really needed when the tough times came a-rolling in, and boy, did they ever! 😟

No annoying ex-lover this time around, but a flagrantly disloyal and ignoramus of a manager - check in spades! His condescending tone, his disgust of Gideon's antics, his crude homophobic remarks that made Gideon feel even more insecure about himself... Frankie was such a tool - how he treated Gideon, how he made him feel so weak to question his stance, his own thoughts and subdue him from voicing his own opinions. ’My life, after all, has been twisted and narrowed by other people’s and my own expectations. Well, no more.’ 😥 Seeing Gideon finally rise above that homophobic cloud - even with that bittersweet realization that the father figure he had always respected in Frankie was no more - it was with the gratitude that he could finally have a life of his own - a chance to be his own person. Even if it were so late in the stage of his life and career, knowing that he had the love and support of those by his side - and with the promise of so many others, made letting go of his past, all the more worth it. 🙏🏻

God,” I mutter. “I missed you so much.”

He frames my face in his big hands, the fingers curiously gentle. “I missed you too. So much.”

I don’t think anyone has ever said that to me before. His smile turns sad as if somehow he knows what I’m thinking.

As we bid adieu to this world, it was a hearty welcome to see old faces reunite and even more of a pleasant surprise to see others appear! Did I kinda smile at the last phone call Gideon received? A bit. Did I enjoy seeing Oz make a monkey out of Gideon, no hesitance and fear in how he would treat him? Definitely let out a chuckle. 😄 Did I like how Milo went above and beyond to defend his brother, proving that their brotherly bond was on the track to becoming stronger than they had ever had - bound and protected by the strong sense of loyalty and love they had for each other? ’Milo is probably the only person in this world apart from my two best friends who I love…’ 🥺 It warmed my heart. Did I love the casual and heartwarming reception in which all the residents of Chi an Mor welcomed Eli as one of their own - as the worthy candidate for the one who would bring light and levity into their dearly beloved, Gideon - a soul who had never felt moored by anyone until now. It was the icing on the cake. 🥰🥰

Not the most stellar of them all, some could say it was nothing exactly new or exciting, but for me, Lily M.'s reads promise a slight reprieve from my slightly hectic life and a little sprinkle of banter and luxurious lifestyle that I'll probably never have, but never mind escaping to for a couple of hours. 😌 The fact that this was a lot more grounded than the others - one that had a slightly more serious tone to it may have Gideon and Eli's romance kinda take a back seat, but it still had plenty of sexy times and lovely endearments that were both affectionate and honest that I didn't mind how it played out. It was a nice send-off to the men of this series that despite how late it may have happened in their lives - it was never too late to build a home in the hearts of the person they loved. 🫶🏻🫶🏻

(I would have named the stars for their late-in-action Tig but I can't get over the age jokes)

Wow! I was dreading this book because the second book felt a bit lacking and I didn't want to be disappointed again BUT I LOVE THIS!!!

Okay. This may not be as laugh-out-loud funny like Oz but definitely more entertaining than Milo. PLUS, Gideon and Eli has the most heart-fluttering and tender scenes and dialogues in the series. So many 'aw shucks' moments and mooning over each other like how you imagine the wonders of dating and falling in love should. Nope! Sweetness and cheesiness knows no age. They are so cute! 🥰🥰🥰

Their time apart also added depth to their relationship, making it more intimate. There's something about the longing and missing each other that made it feel more mature and quite hopeful. And really, I am so weak when it comes to well-made, heartfelt letters. Ugh! It made me feel so soft that you could mistake me for a marshmallow. I only wish there were more of those letters and Gideon's experimental cookery. It felt like I've been robbed because it was too short and I was mooning for more back and forth between the two. Missed opportunity for courting, I must say.

“Cariad, I’d live anywhere that you were,” he says slowly.
“Anywhere?” I ask flippantly, stopping to clear my throat.
“Anywhere,” he promises me. He pauses. “But only if this hypothetical house was bought together with shared money after we’d hypothetically dated for a while beforehand.”
“That hypothetically makes me very happy,” I say gruffly.
“I’m hypothetically glad.”

Aaaaaah! So cheesy but so gooood! 🤭

This is a great conclusion to this series especially when their whole self-made family were completed. Friendships, brotherhood, and parenthood. It's so cozy. ❤
