Helpful to see my wife's needs: that I become the kind of husband that she needs versus hoping that she'll change for me. My prayers for her are now more specific to her concerns than my wants.

I think this book is a great reminder for us to "in everything by prayer and supplication let your requests be made known unto God" kind of books. For me it helped me to remember to always be mindful to pray for my better half, as we are one flesh and that we affect one another. Great book.

I've been married for two years. We have a five month old son. Several months ago, a younger friend and I prayed about what we should read and study together. At the time, he was dating a girl and we both wanted to do everything we could to make our relationships stronger, more God-honoring, and fuller. We chose this book to study together. The power of a praying husband isn't just for husbands. We discovered that it can work for any level of relationship, from dating to engagement or marriage. It's well-written and full of practical wisdom, scripture, and godly advice (including tidbits from her husband, pastors, missionaries, etc.) And, while knowing I should pray for my wife, and already practicing prayer for her daily, I was reminded of just how potent prayer can be. Prayer to God doesn't just change the situations we're in, nor the people we're praying for, but at it's heart, it changes us. God changes us!
We shouldn't attempt to read a book like this thinking how we can get God to change our spouse's behavior. In reality, if change is needed, we initiate change in ourselves. How we treat them, serve them, love them, and intercede on their behalf changes us...and in turn often changes the dynamics of our marital relationship. It's not an overnight change either. Instead, this is a process. Prayer requires discipline and perseverance. But, it does work. I enjoyed this book and was encouraged by its content.

I read the book 2 years before my marriage and it was actually presented to me by my wife then. It is an expository book as gave the much needed ingredients needed in building a wonderful home and helps me to know that i need to work on myself first before desiring a particular change in my spouse

Where do I begin? I loved this book? I want to read it again? It is such a blessing? It is a book I want to recommend to my unborn again uncle and might push him to salvation? There is so much pushing in this book. I want to enjoy this book again.

Good reminder to be praying husbands. The only part I will revisit are the sample prayers at the end of each chapter.

I appreciated the regular reminder to not only be in prayer but to be in specific prayer for my wife.
I was a little taken aback, not by the author's approach per se, but by its necessity. The bar is clearly lower for husbands than wives when it comes to prayer. That is not the fault of the author. It is just reality, and that thought regularly grieved me as a read a book the was more a plea to get men away from the TV and think of another person as it was to get them to pray.

Meh.
There's plenty of good stuff in here but I didn't feel moved by it necessarily. A lot of the anecdotes or examples are very dated to the type of generation Stormie is a part of. With how marriage is understood in America now, some of these things aren't relatable to young married couples.

I am getting married in a few months and was given this book by my soon to be Mother-in-Law. It was a fantastic read and I believe will help prepare me for my new walk with my wife.

I think just about any woman who makes it through The Power of a Praying Wife will find herself curious about The Power of a Praying Husband. Just what does Stormie Omartian tell my husband to pray for me about? At least that’s how it was for me. I read and loved The Power of a Praying Wife and many of Stormie Omartian’s other books. I love the topic-focused prayer approached that Mrs. Omartian takes in her books. Each one has brought some new “treasure” or “gold nugget” (as my dad would say) for me and my prayer life.
That being said, I do have to admit that The Power of a Praying Husband has been the book I’ve connected with the least out of all the others I’ve read—minus The Power of a Praying Church. I feel like this is because this book isn’t directed towards me as I’m not a husband. I can definitely see that if my husband were praying the prayers for me that Mrs. Omartian outlines and if he were covering all of the aspects of my life that she focuses on I would feel the deep impacts of those prayers as would he. I tried to approach the book as another stepping stone towards growing myself individually and I did to an extent, but I kept getting pulled out of this book because of the book being address to husbands. I almost feel like it’s unfair for me to even rate the book given this, but I still know that The Power of a Praying Husband could be an extremely effective teaching tool and useful for husbands everywhere to dive deeper in their prayer lives, specifically in relation to covering their wives and marriages in prayer.

I did notice the increased sports metaphors in this book geared at helping men think and understand in their own terms. Yet my husband isn’t a sports fan—like at all—so I don’t think he’d relate much to those metaphors. However, so many other men out there probably will.

I didn’t spend much focused time on the study guide portion of the book because this was again not focused toward me as a woman, but based on a skim it looks like a good tool to utilize. As always, there are some differences in my beliefs and Mrs. Omartian’s. I say this every single time, but search the Scripture for all the answers. Anything you need to know can be found there.
All in all, The Power of a Praying Husband was a good read from the perspective of a wife. I’d give this one 3.5 Stars. Have you read The Power of a Praying Husband? What did you think? Let me know!

This was a good book.
I do think we should read books on prayer every so often to remind us what we should be doing and how it can effect us and those around us. The insights, since it was written by a woman, were helpfull on how to more effectively pray for your wife.
I do not like the idea of having set prayers though at the end of each chapter and instructions on praying them at regular intervals. The author makes the point that we often sing praise songs written by others and have no problem with that so it should be ok to recite prayers written by others. I have concerns though with reciting pryayers at regular intervals written by others....as it becomes the same idea as a Hindu Mantra.

Stormie O'Martian - sounds like an Irish alien to me - just kidding.
The book isn't bad - if nothing else it gets you praying and more importantly praying for your wife (if you have one). Everyone needs prayers and this helped me to direct my prayers for Adrienne to specific aspects of her life.
It was a little bit hokey and her sweeping statements about men were sometimes a long way off the mark but there are some good things to be learned here and it is worth reading and praying the prayers she outlines though I seriously doubt Adrienne is going to all of a sudden begin to enjoy the UFC just because Stormie says so......

A quick read that offers good insight into how a husband should be praying for his wife. Stormie uses a straightforward, faith-backed approach to different things a woman will go through during the course of her lifetime that a husband needs to be aware of and offers specific ways to pray for her about them. Praying for your wife is definitely one of the most important things a husband can do!

I read a couple of the chapters to my husband, he wasn't going to read it on his own, my mom wanted him to read the chapter on 'her emotions' and basically it just said to pray for understanding ... of her emotions. funny.

My third time through this book. I still agree with my review from the second time: it always is a very helpful tool in praying for my wife. It is amazing to see how God has answered prayers from the previous years from notes I took.

Stormie Omartian is a New Age-influenced, false teaching-influenced, therapized woman with some issues. She has very little understanding of the Bible and Holy Spirit. What she says on repentance and forgiveness is good, but where is Jesus? She believes things such as 1)praying will empower or give you power 2)His voice speaks to our heart 3) don't miss out on good things, God has your best interests in mind 4) good health, success, easy life free of temptation, world peace, saving people are acceptable topics to pray to God 5) give God your burden 6) God will lift you above your difficult situations 7) you can limit God in disobedience 8) prayer is about your "needs" and feelings and opinions 9) God measure your prayers by how important they are to you 10) results from prayers take time 11) He will give you a new life you will enjoy so much that you won't want to travel back in your mind to the old one 12) loving God is easier than loving man 13) flow of the Holy Spirit will carry us wherever WE need to go 14) the devil hates it when you quote the Bible 15) the devil can't be around praise 16) just stop listening to negative thoughts 17) praise and reading the Bible is magic against negative feelings. Go watch Hardcore Christianity on Youtube. 1) Godhead has all the power, not the asker 2) He speaks to us through scriptures and His testimony first most, not feelings and experience 3) focus on self, not on missing out on God 4) all of those are earthly and Satanic and not according to scripture 5) you need to take up Jesus' burden 6) God will never let you rise above your circumstances in a New Age manner. It's God who must be glorified. 9) God measures your prayers by whether they are according to His Will 10) Daniel 10:12-13 11) John 16:33 12) 1 John 4:20, 1 John 3:10 13) Acts 1:8, John 3:8 14) The devil loves to spread false doctrine and distort the Word. You must quote the Bible with faith and understanding to defeat him. Be a serious student of the Bible 15) the devil was the worship leader. He is leading you away from Christ with music from Hillsong, Bethel, Jesus Culture, Lauren Daigle, etc. 16) watch Hardcore Christianity on Youtube. You must fight facts and lies with the Truth of the Word of God. You can't ignore them. 17) There are seriously mentally ill Christians. They are that way because of demons, and those must be cast out. Jesus called deliverance "the children's bread."

This book was not particularly engaging.
What I did get out of this book is that it would serve as a reminder to pray for my wife after I read it and it reminded me that the marriage relationship is special.
That being said, I think there are better books I've read that do the same and also engage your mind. The author mentions at the beginning of the book that if her husband wrote this book, it would be a pamphlet. I think it would have served better as a pamphlet. She gives 21 things you can pray for your wife about. That's great but a lot of them don't merit a whole chapter dedicated to them.
She included a sample prayer at the end of each chapter that I found beneficial. She also had her husband or another male share a personal story at the end of each chapter. Some of those I found interesting.
The main thing that frustrated me was her overuse of sports and cars metaphors. It felt demeaning. Like if, whenever I wanted to explain something to a woman, I always used barbie doll metaphors. That just seems weird. Also I don't know enough about cars to know about all the car parts she references and I don't know much about American football. She does say that these metaphors work well for her husband so I'm glad it works in their relationship at least. I get the sense that her husband isn't very emotional expressive and she seems to project that onto all men. I do also have complex emotions and moods.
Anyway, the book isn't that long so it's a fine thing to read and discuss with your wife, ask her what concerns she has in the particular area of the chapter you read.

I've prayed through this book many times over the years. I've found it very helpful in helping me focus on key areas to pray about in my wife's life. When I saw there was a new edition, I purchased it and starting using it. There are few changes to the content (though the whole book has a new layout which feels more current), but at the end of the book Omartian has prepared a personal study to contemplate the main topics more deeply. Most weeks of the prayer book now have 10 questions for reflection. The questions ask the reader to consider issues in his own life and his wife's life; read Bible passages; write out prayers (often using a Bible passage as a model); and make further commitments. I don't always enjoy study guides in the back of a book, because often I find the questions rather shallow. Omartian's study guide, however, was very challenging and helpful. It took me months to work through all of the questions, and I used a journal alongside the questions as a record of where I'd been. This study guide was an excellent companion to my daily time of devotion, meditation, and prayer, and I highly recommend it to any husband. I love The Power of a Praying Husband, and I recommend it highly

I gave this two stars because it reopened my eyes to the need to pray for my wife. Not that I did not know, but it is something I have taken for granted at times and this renewed my vigor for it. That is the good thing and if that was all I had to say, I would give this book five stars as praying for my wife is one of the most important things I do/need to do.
Why I am only giving the book two stars and not one or five is this. Omartian falls into the crutch of cherry picking verses to make her point on occasion. There is a verse for nearly anything if you ignore the original context and this is what Omartian does on occasion. For example, did you know when Jesus is accused of being of the devil to cast out demons and his response about the kingdom not being divided also means husbands and wives should be unified. I nearly threw the book in the trash when I read that, but I held off for a few more days because I want to pray more for my wife.
She has a point that men need to pray for their wives, but her writing grew tedious. I cannot recommend the book to other dudes, but I will of course encourage them to pray more for their spouses, without reading this book.

Stormie Omartian has done for husbands what she's done for wives — shown them how to pray for their spouse. With wonderful insight and input from several men, she has helped us to be less confused by our wives. I highly recommend this book. Just as my wife has read to me her prayers, I recommend you read the ones which stand out to your wife.

Let me say first and foremost: I am not married. I will not know how well this book taught me when it comes to praying for my wife. However, it did teach me what women want and need when men pray for them. It revealed their fears and desires, and it brought to my attention some issues that are more prevalent with women. It certainly was eye opening and informative. Additionally, each chapter is short. Stormie cuts right to the point, and sometimes she includes very humorous remarks about her husband. It's a quick and easy read, and because of the humor, it'll keep your attention.
I have already begun praying the prayers listed in the book, and it has helped me in my own prayer life. For that, I give the book 4 stars. Maybe once I'm married and I put my newfound knowledge to the test, I'll give it another star.
I have already begun praying the prayers listed in the book, and it has helped me in my own prayer life. For that, I give the book 4 stars. Maybe once I'm married and I put my newfound knowledge to the test, I'll give it another star.

A must-read for any husband who is looking to be more intentional in prayer for their wife. Many times we can overlook key areas or concerns that one’s wife is seeking prior in and this book definitely helps lead a man in the right direction. I personally read a chapter a day to create a daily expectation of prayer and build a habit to continue on even past completion of the book. Even if you believe you’re already praying effectively for your wife, there are great things to pick up from all over this work. Lastly, even if you finish the book, you can always go back and pick out a chapter to read again when needed. Great points and reference to scripture throughout.
