When the Waves Subside: There is Hope" is written by a daughter for her parents out of appreciation for their strength, love, and perseverance since the disappearance of their youngest daughter, Heidi M. Allen. My parents started to look for glass rocks while they were dating and after my sister and I joined the family, the tradition continued. "When the Waves Subside" represents the similarities between broken glass and the parent grieving the loss of their child.
I published my first two books this year. The first, "When the Waves Subside ~ There is Hope" was written initially as an anniversary gift for my parents. This is a short story to share my memories of looking for "sea glass" or "glass rocks" in Lake Ontario with my parents and how the parents of a missing child are similar to this broken glass - both transformed into something stronger and more beautiful once out of the beating waves.
My other book, "Where's Heidi? One Sister's Journey" released on April 3, 2013, on the nineteenth anniversary of my only sister, Heidi M. Allen's, kidnapping. This book is written to share hope and healing with those who think it isn't possible to survive, thrive, and heal after the loss of a loved one. It is written from the sister's perspective of loss with reflections and insights learned along the way.
I write and speak because I enjoy it and believe this is the way God's called me to share. Thank you!!
A book written to encourage the parent grieving the loss of their child. Although life is beating the waves against them, with God by their side they come through to the other side more beautiful and smooth then the brokenness they experienced because of the loss. The hurt never goes away yet their strength is beautiful and strong.
