Rate this book
Lucy has spent the last three years with Austin, her human and the best friend she’s ever had. Her life has finally become a peaceful one that’s helped her forget her violent past of dog fights and blood. Unlike the scars, her heart has finally healed, and she is happy.

One day, Nora enters their life, a new friend that Lucy and Austin immediately welcome. But Nora is on the run from a psychopathic, disco-loving group known as The Razors. They want her dead and will mow down anyone who gets in their way.

When their paths cross, loved ones will die, and Lucy will be forced to mentally return to the violent past she’d left behind to enact a bloody revenge against the bad guys.

Because if you’re dumb enough to hurt her human, you must have a death wish!

Lucy is my favorite final girl.

Rufty has a way of building a horror story with just enough gore and action to hook you and then cranking it up to eleven in the last act leading to the furious flipping pages and racing of your heart as the action ramps up to an unforgettable conclusion.

Lucy may be one of my favorite canine characters ever written. She has a fully developed character history full of trauma and healing moments. Lucy fully embodies feminine rage in this story exacting bloody revenge on everyone that dared to do her wrong and I love her.

This story had some silly elements like an intense insta-love situation between two characters, and Lucy being unnaturally intelligent but both of these facts are pointed out in the book and the tropes were sort of made fun of and I really enjoyed that. That silliness aside, Lucy has a lot of fantastic gruesome gory scenes- one involving a boob and another involving a face that was the first in a long time that actually disturbed me and has haunted my thoughts since I read it. (Getting the willies just thinking about it.) I would also like to note that this book has one of my favorite endings of a horror book I've ever read.

Highly recommend!

The unruly debate has persisted for decades: Do dogs have feelings? I challenge you with “Lucy” if you side with the naysayers. It’s not a psychological argument for the aforementioned subject, but it offers a deep portrayal of the canindae sense that often conflicts with human emotion.

People, especially dog lovers, are often quick to judge the pit bull (Thanks, Michael Vick). When I walk my Pit, I still get the cursory glances and and terrifying stares. There’s no judgement with Ruffy’s approach to Lucy’s character, which I greatly appreciated. She’s just a big marshmallow that desires love and affection. Reading about her backstory, particularly with the abuse and abandonment, was sad and remorseful to say the least. Lucy does attack when triggered, and there’s a significant amount of gore associated with her payback. We can feel her bite as she avenges her owner and best friend, Austin.

And who does she go up against? The city pound? The police?

No…A discotheque gang of boppers. Reading about the adversarial Razors offered some sense of solace in a novel that primarily deals with animal abuse. The whole 70s retro Tarantino thing has been played out, but this gang was sexy, funny, and sleek! I hope we see the Razors again in the near future.

“Because if you’re dumb enough to hurt her human, you must have a death wish!”

DOGS HAVE FEELINGS AND LUCY IS A GOOD DOG.

/review #justkidding

Let’s meet Nora, a good person who gets unwillingly pulled into a terrible situation and must now go on the run. She now has to hide from a “psychopathic, disco-loving group known as The Razors”. While on the run, she meets Austin and Lucy, whom she forms a bond with but as The Razors get closer, everyone is in trouble, including the psychopaths themselves.

I’m not going to say too much because my full review will come in a future issue of Scream Horror Magazine. But I will say that I absolutely LOVE Lucy, the goodest of the goodest girls. And my favorite villain was Tawny: “My tit!” Haha. Overall, I wish we got more of Lucy within the pages. I got way more invested than I originally thought I was going to and those last couple of chapters pulled on my heartstrings. Absolutely would recommend.

Lucy

Kristopher Rufty

I went into this one blind as is my usual. The only thing I knew was it centered on a beautiful dog assumed named Lucy.

The over the top whirlwind romance pulled me out of the book a bit but Lucy's determination for revenge brought me right back in.

With the introduction of Mr. Sharp and the Razors I was hooked. Their wild and crazy obsession had me giggling While their need for carnage left my jaw on the floor. I need more of them!

Lucy! Lucy will win your heart and soul from the first moment you meet her. You will fall in love with the players in this story, the witty back and forth banter, the back stories that come with all of the characters, and the dynamite, graphic details of the ensuing action. I will carry Lucy with me forever. 🐾

Great revenge story

I'm a sucker for a dog especially a pittie and this one takes out all the bad guys. He nails the persona of a happy pit and a mad pit perfectly. Filled with suspense gore and.great fight scenes. As I've said.before and ill say again rufty always delivers his characterization is top.notch even with animals .

Could have used more of Lucy kicking ass throughout the book, but the story was still interesting and the gang of villains was very amusing. Not Rufty's best but still an enjoyable read.
