Adair is a young journalist haunted by a conspiracy that sent his father Doctor Brown running to the safety of a remote Scottish Island, when he was still a child. Was his father deluded? Perhaps even insane or was he telling the truth? Sophia was Adair’s childhood friend. At the age of eleven, they became separated only to meet years later through the internet. However, they are soon overcome by dark events and the distortions of their everyday lives. Shadows creep, and menacing events take place as they seek to unravel the terrible secrets that are being kept from humanity.
WOW! Talk about scary read! This book had me all over the place! I was sad and scared throughout. This is a dark thriller with a twist. I became really invested in the characters cant wait to read more!

I have to say there are some drugs that aren't often written about. I liked the author fit in the notion of tripping. It made the subject matter seem plausible - it's the first thing people would think in the real world.
Intense is the best way to describe Reflections. There is a lot going on in the plot, and I found it quite enjoyable. I like books that keep me hopping and guessing.
Supernatural Suspense readers will love this one. I know I did!
Reflections: Cathedral Chronicles by Elizabeth Wixley is full of suspense and drama. I was lured in by the darkness. This was quite the thrill ride where the mysteries unravel little by little. A dark intriguing read that pulled me in right away.
In some ways this was an emotional roller coaster ride. So many twists and turns. An unpredictable story that was a great escape into the unknown.
Reflections is a well-written paranormal story that has more than just vampires. Would highly recommend.
Quote ~
Sophia felt light and embraced the triumphant feeling that comes with having conquered a fear and survived. Boldly she stepped softly towards the edge of the building and looked out over the city. Everything was glowing, streetlights, and neon signs. Dotted here and there fires burned. Then the cries drew closer, screaming, howling, shrieks, a cacophony of noises that she barely recognized. Every note seemed to resonate with the burning dark desire and hunger for blood. …”
As children, Sophia and Adair had been inseparable. That is until the day Adair and his family disappeared. But now they are adults, and they have found each other again. However, the ghosts of the past continue to haunt, and the demons of the present threaten to tear them apart once again.
Reflections: Cathedral Chronicles 2 by E.M.G. Wixley is a frightening dystopian story of where evil comes to earth in the form of vampires. Having read and loved In the Devil's Own Words: Cathedral Chronicles 1 I was expecting Book 2 to begin where Book 1 ended. This is not the case. Reflection is a completely different story, but it is just as good.
E.M.G. Wixley is very good at creating these complicated worlds where nothing is as it seems and there is danger around every corner. This is one of those books that you just can't put it down. The story is so engaging that I simply lost track of time.
With wonderful characterisation and a gripping story Reflections: Cathedral Chronicles 2 is a book not to be missed.
In volume 2 Sophia is watching her niece and nephew who are kidnapped by an evil entity. The story exists between two worlds. It seems they are colliding as the author cleverly brings in new monsters and helpers.Sophia of course has to find them which takes her on the adventure of a lifetime, filled with action. Like volume 1 there's many details to listen for. I was on vacation and driving when I started this book and got a bit distracted so I automatically set it back a chapter to relisten. i didn't want to miss anything. The story is fast paced and filled with suspense. It kept me on my toes and that's something I like in a book. I want to think while I'm reading or watching a movie. The world building is phenomenal and is written so well it seems real. It's a great listen for anyone who loves fantasy, action and adventure. There's even a romance between Sophia and long time friend Adair. It packs a punch!
It's slightly terrifying to read the Cathedral Chronicle books because they are so steeped in believable details and realism that on some level, you start to wonder if this horrific scenario could really happen on our planet. And the thing that really gets you is that the characters are people that you can really care about and relate to. It's heartbreaking when they have to suffer or even die, and because they're so brave, and so real, you wonder what you would do in their situation. Reflections pulled me in just like the others in Wixley's series, and Sophia and Adair are great characters, well worth spending time with and rooting for. Definitely recommended.
I wish I could give this book a better rating. I found the characters unlikable, the story hard-to-follow, and I could not discern any concrete connection to "In the Devil's Own Words," to which this is allegedly a prequel. It did not discuss the same events. It had no clear causal connection to the earlier book. The closest thing I could find to a connection is that both had characters named "Jacob," but I am not convinced they're even the same person. If they are, there are no real hints toward that conclusion.
This is the prequel to In The Devil's Own Words. This whole storyline is diabolical and reflects a deep and dark battle between good and evil with many twists along the way. I look forward to seeing how it eventually ends!
Clive did a good job keeping it all together, which I imagine was a complicated task for him. He followed through on bringing the well developed characters to life really well.
A thriller full of conspiracy and mystery. It’s also very dark and has quite a bit of a twist in the story. The characters are well fleshed out to help you better understand what’s going on. It’ll have you turning the pages to unravel the answers as they unfold bit by bit.
Audible;Well,I understood more of the story this time around. It was still very confusing.Clive Johnsons narration was better this time,as was tehe whole audible experience.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Group spamming and what looks like reviewing her own books/referring to her own book as 5* = no way
And let's not even mention the dozens of five star reviews... mainly from authors... who mainly give five star reviews... I may be barking up the wrong tree, but somehow I think not.
I totally understand promotion, but posting as if you're a reader reviewing a book that actually you wrote? Listing it as 5* as though it's someone else's book? And doing this over and over again? Annoying.
At times this book was heart-breaking as you journey with a young couple torn apart by a conspiracy. I found myself rooting for the main characters and hoping for a happy ending but I have learnt that you can never predict the outcome of any of the ‘Cathedral Chronicle’ books. You can read this book without reading ‘In the Devil’s Own Words’ or ‘Blood Borne’ but I enjoyed seeing some of the same faces and how things link up. You can read it as a one off story or as part of a bigger picture. Don’t read this thinking it’s just another vampire story because there’s much more to this book. I’ve enjoyed reading all three and hope there is more to come.
An exciting book! This book really does have everything. Conflict and love between the main characters. A disturbing conspiracy hangs over two young lovers. As they try to unravel the mystery they are drawn into a dark world which is far beyond anything they could have imagined. Towards the end relationships become strained and I wasn’t expecting what was to come. I found this book quite scary, so it’s best to read it during daylight hours. A thrilling read from an imaginative author.
Vampires, aliens, genetic experimentation, the legend of the green man, winged creatures.....what did I just read? Maybe with a lot of editing and a paring down to only one or two main themes, an actual readable story might emerge, since there is a thread of talent running through the narrative and the imagery is good. But again, what did I just read???
This is an excellent tale of two lovers who find their ordinary world turned upside down as they are drawn into a dark and mysterious world. The London setting, many of the locations of which I am familiar, only added to the appeal.
The twists and turns of the plot kept me guessing right to the end and left me hungry for more - I'll certainly be checking out the other books in the series.
All in all it's a story that moves along pretty well and I do like the imagery that the author has used. There's been a good effort at building a good story. If you liked the Twilight series you'd probably like this book. I'm a little more into the R rated variety myself.
