I have to say, Pack Gamble: Part Two was not on par with the first book. Here it shows, what I meant in my first review, that Hannah Haze's books are often a toss up for me. The quality and reliability is patchy for me then and there. One book, I can love and have nothing to complain about or any issues with, and the next could be a whole different story. Meaning, I find issues, topics/situation I can argue about, leave something to desired or leave me with a sour taste.
So, I totally loved Pack Choice, and was hesitant to start Pack Gamble, since that was the usual pattern for me. But I loved the first part of Pack Gamble, but the second part was not on the same level for me.
So no 5 stars this time, because I had issues with the second part. Like the grovelling. I have expected more than what I got. I mean, they only said they were sorry, and no big actions were really made. They were just persistent, and Avery crumbled. She couldn't stay mad at them. I mean, it kinda fits her, since she is really sensible about emotions and empathetic. And a genuine, nice and honest person. So, she forgave them. Which isn't a bad trait, but after what she had experienced… I mean, it's not necessary, that she has to get some kind of revenge or anything. But I expected at least a bit more fortitude and let them work for her forgiveness.
The things they did was the bare minimum and was the least they had to do. Like, that no one is talking bad about her and them preventing this and defending her. Or them apologizing.
After she forgave them, she wanted to take it slow and put on a 'sex ban'. But really, she did not truly adhere to it, since she let the guys touch/satisfy her with some 'action'.
So, it really did come across as her being less forceful/assertive and ignoring her self-worth.
Another fact was the pace of the book itself. Book one was full of smutty moments and all. And the second one is prolonged with nothing really happening. Sure, they took care of her 'needs' in a way. But mostly she is unsure about going all in with them again, which is understandable, but again, she did not truly adhere to her own rules. And therefore it comes across like she is agreeing to try, but not really try, or leave them in limbo without getting any closer. Also, them reflecting about their situation and how sorry they are is not helping the progress of the conclusion either.
So, it felt unnecessarily prolonged.
Tho, I liked that they did help her with her acting. Even if they did mostly help through their money. It was not really a 'big deal' in my opinion. But it was still good that the director was fired and had to go to jail for what he did, and she could get back into acting.
I don't like how the ending was written. For one, the ending was left hanging. Sure, I know there is a bonus story, that picks it up and delivers a conclusion to it, but it shouldn't be that way. I get it, it's about getting readers to subscribe to the newsletter. But this feels like forcing me to subscribe, if I want a proper conclusion. And further, even the bonus story is not really giving me something special or more.
So, the bonus story was just the rest of the ending, that was intentionally left out. The author could have done better. Further, I hate it, if things are mentioned but not shown. Like the pregnancy. Instead of that bonus story, a skip forward to when the baby is already born and adding some more insight in the new life of them as a pack would have been a better choice.
But that's just my opinion, and of course every author has the right to write what they want and how.
Still, as I always said, it was a solid story and I did still like it. It was just not as strong as the first part, which is a pity.
