My death day is sacred. I spend it the same way I wish I could spend every alone in my isolated cabin, with a glass of wine in one hand and a book in the other. But when the scent of human blood shatters my solitude, I find James—unflappable, undeniably gorgeous, and utterly unafraid of me. He makes my blood boil and he stirs desires dormant for over a century. I must protect him, even if it costs me everything.
James
In the wake of my father’s passing, I go to our secluded camping spot in the mountains to scatter his ashes. It’s almost a full day’s hike from civilization and I expected to grieve alone. I never dreamed I’d get stranded by a freak snowstorm or that I’d be attacked by wolves. I certainly never imagined I’d meet someone like Pierce, the grumpy, overprotective, and annoyingly handsome vampire who saves my life. Now, snowed in and surrounded on all sides by the werewolves determined to turn me into one of them, my only protection is the vampire I’m inexplicably falling in love with.
Snowed in with the Vampire Prince is a 36,000-word fated mates novella with an HEA, instalove, a fair amount of hurt/comfort, and no cliffhanger. This is book 1 in the Blood Bonded Mates series. This book contains mild violence, strong language, spicy scenes between men, and passages depicting consensual blood drinking, as one might expect from a MM vampire romance. This book is intended for mature audiences.
I write MM paranormal romance and I’m the author of the Blood Bonded Mates series. All of my books end with an HEA and most of them also have a fair amount of hurt/comfort woven in, which is one of my favorite romance tropes (both to read and to write).
I've always been an avid reader, practically ever since I could first pick up a book. I've also been fascinated by paranormal themes for pretty much all my life. If a book had witches, vampires, ghosts, time travel, etc., I wanted to read it.
I developed my love for the romance genre in general and paranormal romance in particular when I started "borrowing" the books off my mom's shelf with supernatural elements in them. She was a voracious reader of romance, so naturally, they were all paranormal romances. I fell in love with them. And once I discovered MM paranormal romance, I felt both seen and included for the first time. I now read a wide range of genres, but paranormal romance has always had a special place in my heart. After all, who doesn't love spooky stuff & happy endings?
I’m owned by cats and I’m a proud dog dad to a border collie (pictured above) who is probably smarter than I am. I live in the Pacific Northwest with my partner of 13 years.
A MM romance where a vampire prince & human are snowed in together but there's also a looming threat of the nearby werewolf pack! This novella surprised me in the best ways 😍. I loved Pierce & James, the lore of this world is good too. For a novella, this is great! Devoured my #ARC in 3hrs. I think this is Jay's debut, pretty cool!
Pierce is a vampire prince, secluded in cabin for his death day anniversary. When he saved James from a certain death. P thinks he's a monster but he's so not, he's righteous, stubborn, tender to J's loyal, bold, intuitive. They both grow to be protective of each other! Their pain matches, bicker to talks so sweet.
The whole story happens in a single day. They both grow to be so close, their chemistry is good 🔥. Then there's the wolf pack which provides the action! There's insta love (fated?? 🤭), but it was believable & made me swoon. The feelings were real & such a rollercoaster! I enjoyed the story immensely. We end this on a happy note & I'm not sure the next in series is gonna be about these 2, but I'll love if it is! RTC.

I HAD to read Pierce and James story after reading them in book 2. Sweet lil world. Low angst. No cheating. The way James talked down the Alpha wolf gave me goosebumps. 👏 The fact they could feel what the other one felt during sexytime.. so hot.
Of course Pierce was a grumpy vampire, I don’t think vampires can even be portrayed in any other way, that stereotype it’s a must be. And the human 🤌 James unlike the stereotype of a weak human thing needing a big bad vamp to save him? Noooooo he just pick a burning log to defend Pierce from the alpha, love how fierce he is 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠
This was nice for a novella. We got some context for who they are, some information about the world and the supernaturals.then we get the attraction, totally insta! We even get some explanation why James accepts the existence of supernaturals so “well”. There’s also some angst and bloody action. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be longer, because 1 day is no time at all to fit all they feel 👉“He’s the one my heart belongs to. He’s the one my heart will always belong to. He’s the one I want to spend my life with.”
Loved the blood bond… they felt each other during sex… super hot. The blood sharing almost got me killed 🥵🥵🥵🥵 and also the fact that communicate telepathically through the bond yummy 🤤
So for 116 pages it’s pretty good and ticks almost all the vampires/ human boxes for me 🖤 a extra is that they are snowed in a cabin in the woods. So win win for me 🥹 I don’t feel the need to read more at the moment, but I liked this one, it made its purpose and I’m satisfied 🧛 🩸 🥵 ♾️ 🖤🥹
Too much insta everything for me, and I don't enjoy when the first kiss is so uneventful.... No, no, no, no! But now I'm interested in Nathaniels book 🤷🏽♀️
Fated mates? Check. Grumpy vampire prince? Double check. Spicy scenes and fierce human energy? Oh, you know I was sold.
The book delivered on these fronts with an instalove story that had me rooting for Pierce and James—when they weren’t busy misunderstanding each other despite literally being able to read each other's minds. Seriously, what was that about?
The werewolf villains brought some decent tension, but the resolution? A cheesy monologue convincing the big bad alpha to see the error of his ways. I mean…what?! The man was out here trying to commit literal crimes, and we gave him a pass because of grief? It felt way too rushed and just didn’t sit right with me.
All that said, I still had fun with this novella. Pierce’s broody, overprotective nature and James’s fiery resilience carried the story, and the cozy, snowed-in vibes were perfect. While I see so much potential here that wasn’t fully realized, I’ve already grabbed books 2 and 3 because, well, I’m curious.
This was a short read but I enjoyed it immensely because the author managed to develop great characters and a wonderful background plot. And I just love a snowed in story. James went camping to spread his father's ashes in the lake where they used to go together. He is very sad as he had a wonderful relationship with his dad but he decided to take the risk of going to the mountains in bad weather to put his dad's ashes to rest. Then he gets attacked by wolves and a stranger appears from nowhere to rescue him. That is Pierce, a vampire who is spending his death anniversary in solitude in his cabin, but he smells blood and goes out to check who is in danger. Like I said, it was a short story but I didn't feel it lacked anything. Quite the opposite, the encounter between Pierce and James was perfect, Pierce helping James to recover from the attack and offering him a place to stay. I loved that James wasn't scared or didn't panic, as he kept repeating his encounters with vampires so far had actually been good for him. There was a special connection from the beginning, but they took a bit to act on it. It could be said that it was a slow burn story even though it was short. James was amazing, a strong character that knew what he wanted and what he didn't want. Pierce realised what James was to him and I could feel his pain through the pages. This book has love and passion, but also so much action which made it a great read. There was so much to enjoy in such a short story. I would've loved for this book to be longer as I'm sure it would've been an even better novel. Still, I loved it and enjoyed it so much, and I can't wait to read whatever comes next in the series. Maybe Pierce's maker?
I’ve been branching out into paranormal romances lately and when I saw this book I thought it looked fun and wanted to give it a try. It certainly started out that way. We had some adventure and banter and fun times. But about halfway through it kind of changed. The writing or something was different, everything went too fast and it wasn’t as enjoyable as the first half.
I liked Pierce as a character. He seemed like a pretty chill and nice vampire. James was a regular human with regular commitment issues. But then all of a sudden they were madly in love the day after meeting and bonded to each other. I really wish the story wasn’t so rushed and we got to see their interactions more before this came up. I think this story and author has a ton of potential. If you’re looking for a short insta-love vampire romance with some crazy werewolves thrown in this might be the story for you!
Snowed in with the Vampire Prince is a fated mates story, where Pierce and James find themselves in close-quarters, and with more than simple lust binding them. The hours drag on as they wait for the wolves to return and claim James–a fate he doesn’t desire. The transfer of blood is accompanied by confidences neither man had intended to share, including a blood bond that links them in unexpected ways.
For a novella, this had a little slower pace than I would have liked, with large chunks of exposition and backstory taking up valuable page time. The timeline is roughly 2 days, and much of the story occurs in the first 24 hours.
Short & sweet instalust romance between a vampire prince and a human who just wanted to spread his father’s ashes but instead gets attacked by werewolves. This was cute! I’m definitely intrigued to see more in this series after this excellent debut.
Although this is a novella, there is a lot of information packed into this to setup the world, side characters, and underlying threat for the overall series. James has come to his favorite spot on the mountain to spread his father’s ashes and get some relief from his grief. A snowstorm starts out of nowhere and while he's contemplating on packing up to leave, he's confronted with a group of wolves, big ones. The alpha wolf bites him and leaves him there to bleed out. Pierce is in a secluded cabin on the mountain to sulk through his death day, like he does every year. After a call with his maker, Nathaniel, Pierce is feeling a little lost and lonely. While ruminating and watching the snow fall, a scent reaches him, fresh blood. Pierce finds James laid out at his campsite dying and decides to bring him back to the cabin to save the human.
These two are drawn to each other, are more honest than normal, and fully trust each other, though they don't know why. Their banter is great and they try their hardest to protect each other. The urge is strong and strange to them both. The werewolves that attacked James are not ready to give up and they will collect James with or without his consent. The MC's have past that have shaped their views on relationships and love. I liked that throughout Pierce made sure to get James’s consent before he did anything with or to him. He never wanted to take his choices away, like his was taken in the past. Pierce is more open to love once he realizes they have bonded but James shuts down instead. James is tough and stubborn but he shows his strength in many ways throughout this book.
The story happens over the course of a couple of days so you don't get to see their relationship settle in after all the drama. I'm curious about the underlying tensions with the witches, the murders, and the possibility of war. Also, if Pierce's maker Nathaniel, will get his forever mate as well. This is the beginning of a series and looks to have a new couple in each book, so hopefully this will all be answered in the future. I wanted to hate the werewolves so badly but by the end you just couldn't and you want to hope that they find what they need in the right person.
I received a free copy of this book via GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I honestly can't believe that this is Jay's debut novel. It's simply excellent. While it is technically a novella, it still felt like a full book to me. Yes, it's "fated mates" and vampires and whatnot, but nothing felt rushed at any point. The way the romance developed and the bond between James and Pierce formed was paced perfectly and it felt realistic, in a way. This is quite a feat when you also consider that most of the story takes place over roughly twenty-four hours.
James and Pierce are perfect for each other, without a doubt. They're both exactly what the other needs desperately and share some common ground regarding their traumas and hang-ups. Despite Pierce being a vampire and James a human. I absolutely adored both of them.
The writing is also amazing. I could not put this down even if I tried. It hooked me from the start and didn't let me go. I already had an inkling that I would grow to love Jay's work after reading the novella that comes before this one, Embracing his Vampire Mate, but this one just solidified it for me. I am, without a doubt, a fan now.
So really, what else can I do but dive right into Nathaniel's story? There's no choice, let's be real. Read this book, I mean it! Don't miss out on this, I promise it's worth it.
Audiobook Review
Now, I don't often listen to audiobooks because I tend to get too distracted to pay much attention to them. But I loved this book so much that I had to give the audio a try when I got the opportunity to listen to it. And I really liked it! I loved the narrator. He managed to keep my attention, though that is also a major credit to the author, of course. I'm glad this book is just as gripping in audio form as it is in ebook form. So, if you're someone who prefers audiobooks, definitely give this one a go. Actually, please give this one a go because it deserves all the love.
“Love wasn’t a romance. Love was seeing somerone else and recognizing that you would fight for them. That you would risk anything for them”.
I really enjoyed this. Pierce and James were really relatable (at least the parts not involving being a vampire etc lol). I liked that they had very different insecurities that boiled down to the same fundamental fear of not being enough for someone to stay. I love when something like that comes from different experiences because it shows how much we really do have in common with one another if we take the time to talk. I will say, I kind of wanted to shake them both at the 3/4 misunderstanding because they didn’t talk point. However, it actually worked really well with the story. It made sense that they admit had a chance to properly talk and that they didn’t have time to communicate properly because of the situation they were in. Plus they did actually stop and listen before it was too late (ie before any silly and unnecessary protracted period of separation). I don’t mind a miscommunication when it’s done in context and dealt with quickly (we’re talking a matter of hours here). The little bit of action added a nice element of suspense too. I am super intrigued to meet Pierce’s maker, he seems like an awesome guy!
This was such a quick read. I liked the author’s take on vampires and I’m intrigued to learn more about the world and all the supernatural creatures in it. James and Pierce I adored, but I wish their relationship had been more developed and we got to spend more time with them. Other than that I enjoyed the book so much and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
*I received and arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.*
Very Nice...I enjoyed this novella that had the paranormal elements I enjoy reading in a romance. This new author to me did a really good job with the suspense and the chemistry with James and Pierce. The MCs were likable characters along with the side characters. I was entertained from start to end and was real satisfied with the MCs HEA. I will definitely would like to read more from this new author. Very NICE!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This was a fun fast read. I really did enjoy the characters. Pierce was an interesting brooding vampire and James was kind of a brat. I liked the dynamics.
I'm back to finding one's with a semi good actual plot. I'm not a fan of the soul mates things that go this fast, would have been better for me if it took longer than 2 days, but still fun.
What happens when a vampire prince is snowed in with a human? All kinds of magic happens ❤️ thats what. Was this insta love?...Yep, was it hot?... also yep, was it swoon worthy??? Yep, yep.....This debut novella was perfect, I am hoping for so much more from this universe. I would definitely recommend.
* I received an ARC, from GRR. This is my open and honest review *
Wow! I stumbled upon this new-to-me author completely by chance, then almost didn't grab the book because of the cheesy title. But I'm so glad I did 🥰 I LOVED it, and am definitely here for the next in series!
This was a sweet, smutty novella about a grieving human, a lonely vampire, some super pushy werewolves and a whole-ass snowstorm. This one 100% felt like ‘Twlight, but make it gay’ and I am absolutely here for that in every possible way 😹
1st person, past tense, dual PoV Pierce Bailey (24+100), vampire James (24), human
The author's moment of inspiration was definitely what drew me into the book - a vampire commemorating his death day alone in an isolated cabin, with a glass of wine and a book? Pour me a glass, I'm there!
This was a smidge slow to start with the mostly internal musings of each respective character and a small amount of info dumping about the world and background (some of it, like the conflict with the witches not really relevant and distracting to include in the story). My preference is to mostly have this type of information relayed more naturally between the characters (showing rather than telling), but it's nothing that I can't roll with in small doses. I did find it a little strange that the author chose to have Pierce save James from the wolf bite off-page, this is another instance where I would have preferred to see the action, rather than be told about it passively. However, once the action does begin, it's pretty non-stop and I loved that there was an element of jeopardy (werewolves!) infused with this take of the "snowed in" trope.
I loved the banter and instinct both Pierce and James had to protect one another, without even being aware of their connection. I'm not the biggest fan of fated mates/insta-love, but I knew that's what I was getting with this and in all honesty for a novella it's almost expected. This is my favourite portrayal of fated mates; when they don't recognize it right away. It allows the characters to form a natural bond and then add an extra layer to the relationship. The werewolf storyline was so much more than I could have hoped for a novella and I'm a little in awe of the fact that the author actually made me sympathize with the villains!!! I'll admit that I did tear up a little; I'm such a softie.
There is a bonus chapter available for download, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. I wish this type of content was just included with the publication, I hate having to click links and subscribe to newsletters and download content as it takes me out of the story and annoys me but I am compelled to read them anyway. This one is a really cute 16-page chapter in which Pierce brings James to meet his (literal) maker, Nathaniel.
This was a super solid debut and has definitely hooked me into reading more of the series when they are released. 4.5 stars, rounded up.
I was given an ARC and voluntarily wrote an honest review.
Reread (October 2025) With the release of book 5 I've decided to binge the series and thought a reread of book 1 was warranted. It was just as good the second time through, though I did think it was a slower start than I recalled, more of a four star read if I'm honest, but it was a debut so I'll leave the original stars in place.
If you’re into instalove with a side of forced proximity, mating, and a dash of violence and kidnapping (not by the MC) then this is the book for you. The writing is also good too so that’s nice. :) It was a quick and interesting vampire novel. I found the characters compelling - I wanted to know more about them to be honest - and I liked their connection. Not a huge fan of the insta-love - literally everything happening in a day or two kind of thing - but it’s a trope for a reason. Overall, I wanted more - it ended a bit too abruptly for me but I like long novels and I wanted more detail about the world and about the characters and I wanted everything longer and more drawn out but that’s just me.
This was an OK short read. I know I am going into a slump when I start and stop a lot of books and that is happening now. So I think reading these short novels or novellas help me. But the problem with them is that they either do not have enough plot or great story (meat on the bone) or they are so good I feel bad that it isn't a whole novel. This book fell somewhere in the middle. I liked parts of the book w.r.t. the characters and how they got to know each other even though it was only overnight. I am unsure whether I will be reading the next book in the series though.
There was something with this book that caught my attention and called to me, despite the synopsis itself indicating that it involves instalove and it being relatively short (126 pages), which are not usually my fav things.
Nevertheless, I started and finished it in one day (it being as short as it is, you can read it in one sitting).
As the synopsis notes, we find Pierce celebrating his death anniversary in a small cabin lost in the mountains. That’s the only day of the year he takes for himself, and he likes to spend it in solitude, in a dark and sad atmosphere. I liked this dichotomy in him because on one hand, you see that he is saddened by losing his "humanity" so many years ago, but at the same time, he appreciates that his "father" saved his life, and he likes his current life.
On the other hand, we have James, a young human who decides to camp alone in the mountains to say goodbye to his recently deceased father and scatter his ashes in the place where he shared so many memories with the person who gave him everything and made him the man he is today.
What he did not expect to encounter, however, in addition to a snowstorm that forces him to end his getaway early, is a pack of unusually large wolves that decide to attack him without warning.
And that's how our MCs meet, when Pierce catches the scent of his blood and decides to save him. Being a short novella as it is, there’s not much room for emotional development, hence the instalove. Despite that, and although I tend not to enjoy instalove very much, I didn't dislike it much because I think it is well integrated with the characters' circumstances, the connection they share, and the element of fated mates that binds them.
If you read this considering that it has 126 pages and that in that amount you can't develop a too deep story, you can enjoy it perfectly fine. Personally, I liked how Pierce and James clashed, being completely different but at the same time exactly what the other needed in their life.
The plot with the shifters is not very developed, but it’s promising as it introduces new characters that could play a role in the future. It's not bad, though, it's entertaining, and it adds an extra layer of danger and tension to the story, giving some depth to the development of the relationship between Pierce and James, within reasonable limits, of course.
What really falls short for me is the length. I would have preferred for it to be longer and for there to be more time not only to develop the relationship but also to read a bit more of them after the danger ends and they accept what they feel for each other. It feels a bit incomplete to me, like something is missing, and I don't even know if their story will continue in a second book or if the next in the series will have (as I imagine) new MCs.
