CALLIE

After constantly looking over my shoulder as I run for my life, I’m on the brink of giving up.
On happiness.
On love.
On life.

Which is why, when a familiar face shows up where I’m hiding, I shock myself by running again. Though, probably not as shocked as Zeus is when I run him off the road with my car.

For some reason, my survival instinct is stronger than my mind is, and I find myself fighting for the life I’m not even sure I want.

On the run and nowhere to turn, I flee into the arms of the last person I should. Suddenly, I find myself involved in one of the worst crime syndicates in Las Vegas, and no way to get out.

ZEUS

Why would Callie run away from me? I’m delightful, damn it. I mean, sure, he probably thinks I’m trying to kill him, but I’m not. I’ve been hired to make sure he’s okay and that he’s surviving after escaping an abusive relationship, making mistakes, and putting multiple people’s lives in danger.

He screwed up, but he doesn’t deserve to die for it. And now, because of me, his life is at risk yet again.

Technically, my job is done. Callie is still breathing. That’s all I was supposed to find out. But I can’t sit by knowing he’s selling his soul. His body. I need to get him out, and I’ll go to any lengths to do it.

Nope. This was so bad. I’m starting to feel like I should just give up on this author. Whatever charm and spark her writing used to have, her books no longer got it. She’s had a lot of misses lately, a few mediocre ones, and literally no gems at all.

Anyway, back to the book at hand. First of all, the relationship was very uncomfortable and extremely superficial; Callie literally did nothing but objectify Zeus and seemed to only be obsessed with how good-looking the guy was (even when he literally thought Zeus was there to KILL him). Meanwhile, Zeus just seemed to see Callie as a project for him to fix. Like Callie was a way for him to redeem his past mistakes.
There was nothing romantic about it. It was sort of like trauma-bonding but without any real feelings. These two had less than zero chemistry and they had no connection between them whatsoever. It was all completely meaningless and without any emotion or depth.

Furthermore, I know this book desperately tried to make me feel sorry for Callie and think he’s innocent in everything he’s done, but I don’t believe that at all. Callie is awful for what he did, and there are no excuses. I honestly got so sick and tired of his self-pity.

I went into this disliking Callie and not expecting much from Zeus but of course I was pleasantly surprised by their emotional depth. Iris and Saint will probably always be my fav Mike Bravo couple but Zeus is possibly my fav individual character. This had a bit of everything - sweet, hot, funny and all the side characters 🥰 an easy 4.5⭐️

Are we getting Haz and Decaf next? 🤞

I absolutely adore Zeus!!!

Saint and Iris are definitely still my favourite couple in this series, but Zeus and Saint are tied for my favourite character.

There is SO MUCH MORE to Zeus than the character we've seen so far, and he totally stole my heart - to the point where I feel as emotionally attached to him as I do to Saint after what he disclosed about his past. The man has layers and it was so enjoyable seeing them all be revealed.

I also liked the journey Callie goes on throughout the book too, because I really didn't care much for him in Atlas but I feel like he managed to redeem my opinion of him here. It's extremely refreshing to see two characters grow so much and the fact that they do it for themselves not for each other or anyone else was so different to everything I've been reading recently.

There's also the usual OTT shenanigans of the Mike Bravo team, but the relationship between these two kept the focus on their love story, rather than the 'bad guy' and whatever he was up to, which I definitely prefer with a low angst book.

I loved the ending and where these two end up, and I'm now dying with curiosity about who's book is next because I am all for seeing a growly Decaf, but I'd also love to know more about Scout too!

Thank you so much for the ARC Eden Finley!

These two have so much baggage they need their own airport conveyor belt!

But that doesn't mean this is a complete angst fest. On the contrary, this is probably one of the more calmer in the whole series, even if there's plenty of action and adventure going on.

Poor Callie, the lad's had a number done to him pretty much since he was a teenager and it's so hard to escape from that kind of vicious circle.

Zeus has his own baggage train too that he's carting around like a weight on his shoulders and it shows in the way he lives his life. Mimicking the antics of his namesake Greek God is a disguise for him being unable to put himself at risk of catching real feelings.

Those feelings can bring a whole lotta hurt and he's also storing up residual guilt for not being around when his sister, having escaped her own domestic violence situation, couldn't cope with the mental trauma she'd suffered.

But, somehow, the two of them connect - after Callie aka Sam - runs Zeus over when the Mike Bravo op is sent on a secret check he's still alive mission by Atlas, whose husband Lemon wants to know if his former best friend escaped the fire that nearly ended his life in Book Three.

Of course, Callie runs right into a different dangerous situation and so begins the real heart of the story as Mike Bravo decide to take out the bad guy who's holding Callie's life as ransom for the debt his abusive ex ran up.

There is so much development for both these two men and it's beautiful to read, mostly because each has pretty much given up on living a life that really fulfils them. Zeus uses humour and his man-ho ways to get out of having to have genuine feelings outside of the friendship he holds for his brothers in arms, while Callie has absolutely no self-worth at all.

But slowly, through caring for the other, they also learn to care for themselves too and it's a journey of highs and lows and some really sticky moments where you're not sure they're actually going to reach the end.

Of course there's the usual madcap insanity from the Mike Bravo crew, the body count builds up and there's daring do occurring on almost every page!

We also get to meet an intriguing new member of the team who's definitely got beef with Decaf, so I'm hoping we're going to be getting them up next!

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

Oof, this wasn’t for me. I will always be the first to say that I don’t like the manwhore trope, but books with that trope can be good too, if it’s done well. To me, this one wasn’t. It pretty much missed the whole way through. To be fair to the book and author I probably should’ve DNF’d earlier and moved on, but I kept hoping it would change.

It boils down to the fact that I don’t for a second buy these two together, and I wish Callie found someone else. Zeus is a manwhore, and we know this because it has been repeated over and over again through four books. I’m pretty sure boning anything with a pulse (not my words) is his only personality trait. Usually, the reformed manwhore has some reasoning for avoiding commitment like the plague, but it was really thin in this one, and he didn’t feel ‘reformed’ at all.

All of that is just my personal opinion of course and I expect most people will love this book. The action was entertaining and it was fun to see them solve the case, and I especially loved seeing more of Iris and Saint as they’re my favorite couple from the series. Where the book really loses me however, and made me uncomfortable, is how much it feels like Zeus is using and taking advantage of Callie.

Callie is *so* freaking vulnerable early on, and Zeus is well aware. Callie would do anything for someone to show him just a scrap of affection or care, and he desperately wants someone to love him and be there for him. Zeus has no intention of being that person, but he still sleeps with Callie. At one point Zeus even says he’s so turned on that he would even bone one of his teammates. Any hole would do, Callie just happened to be the one who turned him on.

By the epilogue, Callie is keeping a secret, and one of Zeus’ and the rest of the team’s first thoughts is that Callie might be cheating. I can’t believe in a happy ever after when all they went through still ends in no trust between them. I know people are allowed to have issues they need to work through, but damn.

If you loved this book and the characters, please just ignore my ramblings. Sometimes a book just doesn’t work for me, and this was one of them.

No.

This couple could not seem less real. This is one story that really should have been put off or....not published at all. I wish they wouldn't push out books so fast and give us quality over quantity. I miss the early days. Nothing about their connection rings true. Callie asking but whyyyy over and over about why Zeus would help him is exactly what I was thinking too. His sister was kind of an icky reason honestly. How this couple goes from superficial to this extreme "You only get this after years of therapy" deep amounts of self awareness is ridic.

Also, jfc Callie does NOT need to be a social worker. I saw lots of ppl like him as a social worker. They needed lots of therapy and psychiatric help for themselves yet just because they went through shit they thought that somehow gave them what you need to help others. News flash: It doesn't. I saw his type in school and it usually didn't end well in the field.

Two cringe worthy scenes: The kitchen scene where they decide to date, and then the hospital scene where he "lets him go" was just OTT stupid. Both of them. The things they said? No. Everyone needed a bitch slap on the back of the head in both those scenes. The writing was subpar.

Epic amounts of bullshittery abound in this book. When will I learn to dnf. I should have dnf'd. I don't know what kind of hoodoo hold the Sadenverse has over me but it will NOT let go. One day I'll learn my time is more valuable and to just...dnf the damn book.

I love the Mike Bravo series so much! Zeus and Callie are my new favorite couple. Zeus is so funny and I’ve been excitedly waiting for him to get a book, and I love that we get a redemption story for Callie!! The backstory for both of these characters was heartbreaking, they both deserved to finally get their HEA. I already can’t wait for the next book!

Callie's arc redemption was really good! In Atlas, we saw him broken, he had just betrayed his dearest friend and left him in a death trap set up by his abusive and controlling man. Lemon, being the amazing man he is, is worried about him, so Atlas sends Zeus to find out if Callie is alive and how he's doing.
Callie is dealing with the aftermath of what happened at the club by blaming himself completely, he feels guilty, scared, he lost every ounce of self respect, he firmly believes is not worthy to be saved nor loved, he's spiralling and he keeps making bad choices.
I like how Zeus was able to read his emotions, to understand what he was going through, I really liked how he tried to make him believe he was worthy of Lemon's forgiveness.

The sex scenes are steamy but also very emotional, I loved how attentive Zeus was.

What prevented me from giving a higher rate:
First, I'm a little disappointed that Callie didn't go to see a therapist because his scars run very deeply and he needed to want to save himself instead of relying completely into others. He suffered a lot and towards the end of the book he still thinks he's not worthy of love.

Second, I didn't totally get why Zeus and Callie fell in love.
Callie was attracted to Zeus at first sight in the previous book, his attraction grows because of hero complex; Zeus saves Callie because he really gets why he acted like that and because of his sister (he repeatedly said that). But beyond those feelings I didn't really understand if there was more. Especially because they got together too close to the end of the story and we didn't get to see how they were navigating their relationship, except for a little bit in the epilogue.

The banter between the other members of Bravo team is always amazing.
I hope next book will be about Decaf: his past still hurts and he needs to find his own happiness soon, hopefully with a "resentful" young man.

I received an Arc of this book from ForewordPR and this is my honest review

I didn't like much. I mean, having a good time with the Mike Bravo team is always good but this was to much fuckary.

The guy Callie didn't seem really sorry for me, he did a serious thing but he acted like it was no biggie and should be forgiven right away.
Look I'm the first one to say that being in a toxic relationship is hard, but people in a toxic relationship mostly remain there because they think they don't deserve better and the only person getting hurt is themselves and when you don't have self love hurting yourself is okay but this guy almost killed a lot of people and that to me can't be blamed on a toxic relationship, the fact that no one, absolutely no one gave him a hard time or had a serious conversation with him pissed me off, they all treated him like he was a China doll.

I would have like this book much more if I saw acts of accountability.
Yeah he said to Zeus a lot of time he was sorry and blah blah, but for the people that sorry really was needed - nope - to those ones he nearly didn't talked.

This one was definitely my fault, I saw Malik Delgaty on the cover and ya know, hoped that this book will magically be better than the last 10 I’ve read by the same author even though I swore of the trash, still kinda sneaked up on me.
It’s like a car crash. It’s horrible but you can’t look away (mostly because my ocd won’t let me not finish till I know the end).
I especially love how all the characters in their 30s act as if all of them are 12.
Super loved the whole surprise parenting thing at 90%. Love when that shit happens.
Idk what I expected after the disaster Atlas was but, still, I’ve read it.
You know when the idea is great but execution is just a train wreck? That’s this series.
You’ve got ex military dudes who left the force because it’s so unwelcome to the queer community. Love it. Iris, first book, should have given me a clue, how childish immature and essentially the same character with different names for other books, is not a quirky exception but the rule.
It’s the same guy in every book, it’s the same trivialized trauma, the same internal monologue explanations for the readers as if we all have an IQ of 54, not understand absolutely nothing so everything has to be trivialized and explained as if we’re children.

“Oh I’m a gay ex marine, I like to deal with my personal feelings by making boom boom, I don’t do love, I just fuck. Oh why can’t I leave this dude alone. He’s different. It’s still not love because I don’t do love. Let’s have sex. Let’s have sex some more. Let’s break up, it’s for the best. I’m dealing with this emotional turmoil by making more boom boom, and randomly shoot shit and people. OMG I think I love him. That can’t be I don’t do love. Maybe it is love. Take me back. Yes, baby let’s have sex. Let’s get married.” The end.
All books the same mold the same thing, over and over again. I can’t. I’m so mad at myself for ever reading anything after Egotistical puckboy. I knew better and here we are.

I'm glad Eden Finley is back! With the last 2 books something was missing, but this one was so good! Zeus is such an amazing and funny character, he had me in tears for laughing more than once. I fell in love with him immediately!

I gave 4 stars because something was off in their relationship and I can't really place it. I didn't really feel the connection, it all seemed more physical than emotional till the very end.
The first thing you think about the guy you like after not seeing him for months is "Please give me your D, Please give me your D"? Idk, it seems kind of superficial to me. Maybe the all point was that they both were emotionally immature to the very end? Who knows

DNF @ 40%. I hate Callie. I just couldn’t read any more of this character. He’s stupid, selfish, and shallow. Willfully making the worst possible decisions, using fear as the driving force. I can’t suspend reality with this one. It defies human nature. I think I’m done with this author. This series became harder to get through with each book.

“I didn’t know it could be like this. I didn’t know that sex could include emotions. To me, it’s all sensations and an end result. It’s getting lost in the satisfaction an orgasm gives, not getting lost in each other. And right now, I’m so lost in Callie.”

(ENG) Fourth book in this beautiful series, and as if the members of Mike Bravo had little to put up with with Iris, they also have Zeus!!!! How I laughed at this story! I think this is the book where you get to enjoy them all interacting with each other the most and it is hilarious. We also have a lot of action which makes it even more entertaining in its plot.
So let's talk about the main couple. Behind his funny facade, we have an extremely tender Zeus, who cares for everyone around him, and with a very tough history that he has yet to overcome. I can assure you that he managed to bring tears to my eyes at one point or another.
And Callie. Impossible not to feel for him when "life" has hit him so hard. He will find in Zeus a partner who will make him realize his value as a person and understand that he deserve to be respected as such.
Together they make a very beautiful couple that was a pleasure to read.

Zeus is my favorite character in this series. He has served his time in the Marines to escape a personal tragedy in his family, and then went to work for Mike Bravo Ops. His counterpoint in this book is Callie, who figured prominently in Atlas’ book as Lemon’s troubled friend. He escaped an abusive boyfriend and betrayed Lemon which he regrets. A year later and he’s still on the run from a bad guy to whom he is indebted. Callie stays under the radar, moving from one place to another to stay alive. Callie is still their friend so Atlas and Lemon ask Zeus to find Callie so they can know he’s alive and okay. Callie is barely surviving but feels as safe as he can until Zeus finds him. He mistakenly thinks Zeus was sent to kill him so he on the run again.

A lot is happening in this book compared to the others. The men don't seem to have the strong chemistry and a lot of the passion is also missing here. "Found family" has been a very strong component of the series but I found that that is also lacking in this book. All of our wonderful favorite characters are present but not utilized as much. The mission lacked the same degree of danger and a cat and mouse chase that encompassed the majority of the Mike Bravo team as we’ve seen in the past.

I did enjoy meeting Haz, a young man who recently joined the team. He promises to be an engaging and amusing character in the future books. I still enjoyed the book and would recommend it to readers already invested in the series but be aware that this is not a standalone series so new readers should start at the beginning.

I’ve been so excited to read Zeus’s story! He is absolutely hilarious and our Marine who is afraid of love and relationships has finally met his match and I loved every moment of it. When Atlas asks Zeus for a favor, he doesn’t hesitate to help. Even if it is as simple as tracking someone down. That someone? Callie. Atlas’s husband’s friend who has gotten into a bit of trouble. Callie has made mistakes. He was in an abusive relationship and the fear that came with it resulted in Callie making some bad choices. Ones that almost cost his friend and others their lives. On the run, he has lived with the guilt and shame and has been in survivor mode. He’s barely getting by. And when Zeus appears at his job, well he assumes the worse and makes a run for it. And in doing so, it leads to another awful mistake. One he won’t get out of alone. When Zeus sees the trouble Callie gets in, he knows he can’t sit back and watch. He has to help. What Callie has been through is bringing up a lot from his past and he won’t let it go. What he never expects is that getting to know Callie and being with him… well that leads to feelings. Feelings he didn’t know he could have or ever even want. But Callie changes everything for him. But he knows he can’t be selfish. He has to save Callie from this latest threat and give him the chance to be free of all the bad things that have happened. To build the life he wants. Will they both be able to ignore what their hearts truly want though? I loved this book! Zeus is just a delight. I love being in his pov. And just the whole Mike Bravo group are hilarious and always entertaining. We also get a new character and I see a new book heading our way and it is going to be quite interesting! And as for Callie, I loved getting a bit of redemption story from him. He’s been through a lot and getting his side and seeing just how bad things were, I’m glad to see him get a happy ending. Love this series and as always can’t wait for more!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Callie has been on the run for a year after escaping his now dead abusive ex and the people who were after his ex. As a favor to Atlas and Lemon, Zeus tracks Callie down to check up on him, sending Callie running into an even worse situation. Zeus rescues Callie, and he and the Mike Bravo team work protect Callie and take down the Vegas crime syndicates that are after him.

Before you read this book, you have to read Atlas - where we first meet Callie and learn about his situation. Callie is in a pretty dark place when this book starts, having been abused for years by his ex and drowning in his guilt of past betrayals. He's captivated by Zeus's beauty and care, but doesn't know how to trust his own feelings. Zeus, known for his playboy attitude, has an unexpected protectiveness over Callie brought on my his own experiences. He wants to give Callie the freedom he hasn't experienced in years, and Zeus is drawn to him in a way he hasn't allowed himself to be to anyone else. I really appreciated how even with their strong chemistry, they took the time to get their heads on straight before jumping into anything serious. They truly want to have a healthy relationship and are willing to do what it takes to be better for each other.

I say this every review for this series, but the Mike Bravo group are the best. Even though Callie has made mistakes, they all band together to take down the people after him - even if it's mostly because they like the thrill. It's such a supportive but very fun group. I love seeing the couples - especially Saint and Iris - living out their happily ever afters. Pretty curious about how Decaf and Haz will play out!

Read if you like:
• redemption arc
• hurt/comfort
• found family

"Every life has purpose, and I want to find mine."

Ugh this was sooo good!
I didn't want to finish it, I wanna go back!
I absolutely love this series and like everyone else who has read this series, we all have a favorite couple. Mine has changed.
Zeus & Callie are everything together.

I know there are some who really didn't like Callie going into this book but what he was involved in, I couldn't hold it against him honestly. That's a tough place to be when all you want is to feel wanted.. loved.
I loved every minute I got to spend back in this world with all these characters.
The banter, the relationships, it brought it all back.
Finally getting into who Zeus is is what I love most about this book, yes he is the fuckboy of the group (sorry Iris ;) ) but there is always that extra layer that no one sees, Callie does.

When I tell you there is one scene that I giggled like a school girl on because I knew it was going to happen, I smiled so hard after because that pushed Zeus to the top for me. Being blindsided by feelings or even those feelings is what makes Zeus my new favorite even if I wanted to nut punch him not long after.
There was also the little scene where I threw my kindle because I was so upset and didn't want to look at it for a bit. Tears leaked but after a deep breath, a snack and a drink I went back and got angry again until realizing it is what needed to happen.

Is there spice... oh is there ;) It would not be Mike Bravo is there wasn't!
The main point of this story isn't actually spice though, it's the redemption for me. For Callie & for Zeus. Both need it in their own ways and they way that it unfolds couldn't have been better.
I cannot wait for more from this series and to see all of these characters again.

We all knew that when Zeus met his match, it was going to be a mess from the getgo, and he did not disappoint. Zeus has never let anyone back in after losing his sister and the disappointment he felt he wasn't enough to take care of her, so he ran to the Marines than Mike Bravo. Callie has been in one abusive relationship to the next, always hoping to be loved in all the wrong places and from the wrong people.
When these two paths collide once again a year after the Mike Bravo atlas aftermath, they embark on a journey to finally set Callie free. They build a friendship that helps both see they are worth more than they thought. When all hell breaks loose once again, tough calls are made. They must each learn they are good enough alone and can be something more if they both put a real effort into the relationship for a real shot at happiness.

Zeus and Callie were so amazingly written by the author, that I fell in love with them and freaking loved their journey. This story is also filled with lots of banter and a little bit of action.

We had met Zeus in the previous books of this series as a manslut, who believes in one-and-done theory and also a big commitment-phobe.
Then there is Callie who we met in Atlas, who had betrayed Lemon's trust and left them to die and ran away. Now after one year, he is staying in his car, working at a cafe off Extraterrestrial Highway and keeping a low profile.
Atlas had given Zeus the job of finding Callie and checking if he was doing well but while running from Zeus, Callie gets him into trouble and now Zeus is trying to get him out of there.

Zeus and Callie both had trauma from their past and Zeus was great at handling his trauma by wearing his manslut persona while Callie was always in fight or flight mode, even if I didn't like what he did to Lemon and Atlas, I got why he did that and I like his character so much.

Zeus and Callie were wonderful together, even though Zeus did not want a relationship I loved when he got all possessive over Callie and wanted to protect him, he was so fierce about wanting to give him freedom. Whereas, Callie was already falling for Zeus even when knowing it was only temporary.
Callie's journey was so amazing and I was proud of him, also the way he and Zeus got together was so them, it fits perfectly with their personality and their relationship. Even though I would have loved to see more of their future, I was happy for them and enjoyed this book very much.

I enjoyed their interaction with The Mike Bravo guys and also loved the new addition to the team, I am looking forward to the next book in this series... I am hoping it will be Decaf because of how growly he was with someone.
I highly recommend you start this series.

Callie and Zeus were everything and more. This book was definitely a little heavier than my usual reads but it was all told in such a low angst way that my heart, while it hurt, knew that it was all going to be worth it. In the previous book, we meet Callie who is in a toxic abusive relationship and makes terrible decisions that he keeps blaming himself for. He is a victim who was in a horrible situation so I just wanted to hug him and tell him it was all going to be okay. I hated that his ex's debts were dumped on him. When Zeus scares him and he escapes in the arms of the worst man possible, I did want to shake him a little, but I also understood why he ran away. Living in fear is not easy, it's not a trauma you can overcome in a day nor a year.
I loved how commitment-phobe Zeus melted for Callie. He fought is, he fought it so hard, thinking he didn't deserve it, he was a mess, he couldn't give Callie what he needed, and Callie understood, with a broken heart but he understood. They were perfect for each other, both learning how to be with another person in a healthy way, learning new ways to be themselves, to love themselves. It was a long road to get there, action filled, steam filled, twists filled, but they eventually got there and I loved every second of it.

I want to love Mike Bravo so much more….I think I just need to avoid the audiobooks and read these. These narrators are so miscast, it’s hard for me to get past it and actually focus on the story.

Did I rate this 2 stars? Yes. Did I rate it that because I liked or cared about Callie and Zeus’s story? No. Those two stars are for Iris and Saint and Trav and Haz and Decaf and literally anyone else who made this story remotely entertaining.

Light spoilers now I guess? Anyway.

I swear the only parts of this story I enjoyed were all of the other guys contributions and their dialogue. There were just so many irritating things about this book.

Zeus was a whole thirty year old man who acted like a child like his whole character was supposed to be a man whore who really wasn’t but at the same time he was and he liked it enough to portray himself as that person for years. It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.

Also, love how we never find out why Pierre wanted Callie so bad like you’re telling bestie did all that for some money he knew he’d never get back by using Callie and like went through all that trouble just for that? No. Hated that this wasn’t addressed.

I just feel like this author’s books have just gotten progressively worse and I’m not even talking about just this series. I enjoyed Iris the first book in this series the most. Didn’t care for Rogue really. Atlas was entertaining and I liked it just not more than Iris and this book I just didn’t care. Not about Zeus and Callie’s relationship because the author didn’t really do anything to flesh out their relationship. It went from I’m going to flee and hit you with my car, to you’re hot, I don’t do commitment, we’re messing around, you’re injured, goodbye, to everything’s fine. I wish I was kidding when I say that I only kept reading this to see more of Iris and Trav and the other guys.

Zeus is the fourth book in Eden Finley's Mike Bravo Ops series. It's a MM romance with elements of action and suspense. It's told from a first person dual point of view and has a guaranteed happily ever after. You can expect hurt/comfort, a redemption arc, former military members, "enemies" to lovers, and a main character on the run. Please note that this book does deal with some sensitive topics, including recovery from domestic violence, sex trafficking, torture, and mentions of suicide and suicide ideation. Mike Bravo's body count also increases significantly. Always take care of yourself while reading!
I should probably see a shrink about that, but meh. Why pay for therapy when C4, guns, and a good old game of cat and mouse can be as cathartic?

Overall, I love this series! I'm a huge fan of police/military procedurals (think Jack Reacher), so combined with queer romance? Sign me up! That being said, Atlas slightly missed the mark for me so I was excited for Zeus! And overall, I wasn't disappointed. Let me tell you why.

The found family vibes in this book continue to be immaculate. I love this group of badass, emotionally damaged, and loveable men and women so much. Each book expands on this and it makes me so happy. Iris and Saint (Iris) will always be number one for me, and I loved seeing them together here. Zeus isn't really anything like what we've seen from him in the previous three books. He plays the part of the playboy that doesn't do repeats, but we learn the real reason why he has that wall up around his heart. Him and Callie together were just incredible. A perfect match. Both their backstories really tugged on my heart strings, and I was rooting for them from the beginning. Fans of the series might have some mixed feelings about Callie after his actions in Atlas, however, I think his redemption arc in this story was more than well-earned. One of the things I've appreciated about this series (other than the mental health representation which continues to be great) is that the couples don't follow any sort of preconceived happily ever afters (think of the formulaic moving in together, getting engaged, getting married, etc.). I like that each couple moves at a pace that suits them, and does what's best for them. I liked that about Zeus and Callie! We got to see them growing together as a couple while Zeus enters a new phase in his life, and Callie works on figuring out his purpose in life. And of course, the steam in this book was incredible. I thought it was handled well, particularly considering Callie's trauma.

There are a few elements in this book that I think might stand out to readers, but it will come down to personal preference. Personally, these things didn't take away too much of the story for me.

This has become my second favourite book in the series! I'm excited to see where things will go next, especially with the tension between Decaf and Haz we witnessed. Love this series and this incredible found family!
I can’t do that to him.
He will always come before me.
That’s my rule for him. Because he still needs to know that he’s worth every sensation, every feeling that he gives me.

I am an absolute sucker for a reformed playboy, and Zeus did not disappoint! As the content warnings mention, while this is as fun as all the Mike Bravo books, it does touch on some tough subjects and anyone with triggers should check the warning. While technically a standalone, I do recommend reading what comes before, especially Atlas.

Zeus is the most promiscuous of the Mike Bravo boys, with a firm “love ‘em and leave ‘em” philosophy. When Atlas sends him to check on Callie, Lemon’s wayward friend, they quickly find themselves in a compromising position. This is nothing new for Zeus, but the feelings he starts developing for the traumatized Callie definitely are…

Callie is a survivor of domestic abuse, and he triggers strong protectiveness in Zeus. Yet their inner issues seem tailor-made to drive them apart. Callie is desperate for a connection, but deeply scared to trust, while Zeus is terrified of commitment and doesn’t believe himself capable of constancy. Watching them grow and heal together was tender and sweet, even if I wanted to knock their heads together at times!

The humor is as fabulous as always, with lots of Iris content that had me chuckling over my kindle. And the spice is smoking hot! The chemistry between these two, plus Zeus’ domineering personality, were absolutely combustible. This is a top entry in an overall fun series and I definitely recommend!

I love Zeus and Callie! I knew I would, because I've liked them both in previous books. But man, Eden wandering back into some hurt/comfort is just what I needed. I love how Zeus and Callie have this connection to each other - both because of their past (Zeus caring for Callie after Callie's boyfriend hurt him) and through Zeus's personal past. And it was fun to get to know more about Zeus and see him slowly peel himself open and accept he could be in love. I liked seeing how protective he was and I really liked seeing Callie get some well deserved redemption. This book had me hooked from the jump, although the ending got away from me a bit. I can't quite pinpoint what started going south, but I just didn't love the solution. *Spoiler* I think I wasn't a big fan of Zeus just totally going out of his way to basically die to save Callie only to then set him free, although I suppose it did make sense for Callie/Sam to try some things on his own. Overall one of my favorite MBO series and a great Sadenverse book. Also calling out the Mitchell Brothers? Yes please! 2/5 spice levels.

Notes: redemption arc, past abuse, survivor, no relationships man falls in love, hurt/comfort, Sadenverse, action, sex worker, *spoiler* raising sibling's kids

Cute!!

First, I want to defend my review by saying that I don’t believe 3 stars is bad, regardless of what people think! Just because it’s not a RAVE review doesn’t mean it’s bad. ZEUS is good! It’s enjoyable. It has Eden’s signature humor with a dash of angst, some steam, and a cast of lovable himbos who can’t get enough of guns, danger, and the men who love them.

I’ve enjoyed every book in this series and ZEUS was no different. It was fun to experience the most anti-love one of the bunch finally fall! It was so cute to see Zeus’s protective side finally come out. And it was perfect for Callie, who was in need of some serious protection.

Protection from baddies and protection from… FEELINGS. Dun dun dunnnn! Poor Zeus has to navigate Real Life Emotions while Callie has to navigate figuring out his life once he’s finally free from his demons. I liked their dynamic and they had some pretty fire chemistry.

My only issue is that it felt like Eden overcompensated on the ~silly humor~ because there are a couple more darker themes throughout ZEUS. I know these are supposed to be lighthearted romances, but I think there’s a way to keep it lighthearted while not minimizing very real issues. And I don’t think the issues were minimized, but I do think the extra silliness took away from some of the heavier moments that would’ve soared had the moments been left to simmer. Alas, I understand the want to keep it lighthearted.

I feel like we still have so many characters in this series and I am soooo excited for all of their stories!!!!

DNF at 47% - As someone who has personal experience with much of the subject matter Finley attempts to tackle, I found it mishandled and lacking the care and attention required to tell a story like this responsibly.

She clearly wants to layer humor over some genuinely heavy subject matter, but the balance never works. Instead, it lands clumsy at best and borderline offensive at worst, especially when compared to other MM series that tackle similar themes with far more success.
