Laney and Malcolm spend one memorable summer together, but she never knew he was using an alias. After she returns to college and he returns to his family's corporate jet-set life, Laney realizes the permanent result of their summer but she has no way to contact him to share the news.
Five years later, he's set to take over his father's company, where unbeknownst to him Laney has been working for more than four years. Now that he's found the woman he couldn't forget, he's not going to let her go again.
Understandably, Laney has trust issues and I appreciated the way she made Malcolm work for his relationship, both with her and with their daughter. There aren't a lot of surprises in this story, but there is a rather heartbreaking turn of events near the end of the story that tests their trust and perseverance. Their HEA was very sweet even if predictable, and I found myself falling in love with this adorable little family.
It's a short book - took me only a couple hours to read - so if you're looking for something short and sweet, this story will be very satisfying. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
If you are a fan of second-chance romance, then this book needs to go on your TBR or into your library immediately. I loved it and couldn't put it down! Overall, I would say it took me around 2.5 hours to read it, it was the perfect entertainment for a boring car ride.
Laney and Malcolm. I loved getting to know these two, you can feel the love and adoration that Malcolm has for Laney the moment that he sets eyes on her, wanting to jump into giving them a real chance at romance. Then from her angle you can feel that she still has crazy feelings for him, but the fact that he's lied to her before over who he was, could leave her questioning if she could truly open up and trust him.
What started as a summer fling between the two of them resulted in a lifetime commitment, however, Malcolm had given Laney an alias because he was tired of gold-digger women coming around leaving her unable to give him the news.
Five years later, Malcolm still can't get Laney out of his head and then one day, there she is, he had no idea that the entire time she was working for his father's company. Finally, they are given the chance to reconnect and he gets the opportunity to be a father to the little girl he had no idea existed all that time. And it was the cutest thing ever, how he immediately accepted and took on his role.
There were no twists or turns to it, however, if you are a fan of predictable romance, you will fall in love with Laney and Malcolm, I know I did.
Malcolm is the son of a rich man and he’s good looking. All the ladies seem to want him at the gatherings or high society functions. He’s about had enough. His best friend takes him in to leaving town for a vacation but tells him to use a different name. During his vacation he meets Laney at a bar (whose best girl friend has dragged her to with the promise of fun). Laney and Malcolm fall for each other. All too soon Malcolm leaves and has not given Laney his real name. It took 5 years but Laney found Malcolm again … at her work when his dad announced his retirement & that Malcolm was taking over. What happens next could be anybody’s guides. Do they pick right back up or do they both have secrets this time?
I really wanted to like this book more. I had a problem mostly with the “pet/love” names that the main male character (Malcolm) gave to the main female character (Laney). It felt like his pet names for Laney and her daughter just didn’t fit the story nor was it fun to read them almost every time Malcolm was in a scene with Laney & Laney’s daughter.
This is a sweet second chance romance is the story of Laney and Malcolm (Collin). They meet over a summer just before Laney’s senior year of college. While Laney thinks she is dating Collin during the summer, she was in fact dating Malcom, who is hiding out form gold-digging socialites. By the end of the summer Collin/Malcolm is gone without a trace and Laney discovers she is pregnant.
Five years later, Laney works for a company and discovers Malcolm is now her boss. She panics and tries to decide if she is going to tell him about their daughter.
This second chance romance was a sweet, quick read. I really liked Laney and Malcolm. They were so good together and the hidden identity and pregnancy was handled in a way that was a breath of fresh air.
I agree with another reviewer, this was a sweet pallet cleanser.
This was such a sweet, quick read - about second chances, love, and family. I won't lie, at first I just wanted to shake Malcolm for walking away from Laney all those years ago, and it was heartwarming to see him try to make it right. Laney is smart, strong and has come a long way in the five-year gap between when the two first meet. Malcolm is absolutely swoon-worthy, and although I don't know what I would've done in Laney's place, I was hoping she'd find her happy-ever-after when she's worked so hard. The story moves along at a smooth pace, and the characters have enough depth to make them feel real. My favorite character was probably Cassidy, standing by Laney's side the entire time through thick and thin. If you're looking for a feel-good romance about second chances and making amends, then you want to grab this!
Beautiful heart-felt story. Following a summer fling which left Laney with heartbreak and an unexpected pregnancy, she is determined to carry on. But being unable to trace her daughter’s father makes her life more difficult. Malcolm has been unable to forget the girl he let get away five years earlier, so imagine his surprise when he sees her again in his father’s boardroom whilst being lauded as the new head of the company. When he meets his daughter for the first time, he is delighted if not disappointed with himself for the missing years. What comes next makes this a lovely story. I couldn’t put the book down. Don’t miss this one. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
3.5 stars!! This was a good, quick novella to read to cleanse the palette in-between heavy books, or just wanting a change. It starts out fast and really gets moving quickly, as most novella's do, and their plot runs quickly. Laney and Malcolm have an interesting dynamic and the relationship between mother and child is beautiful. I do appericate the twist and heavy emotional moments in this book. The reason for the lower rating comes from the lack of building a relationship between Malcolm and Child. I wanted more between them, but I also understand this was more of a second chance romance story than a family story.
What would you do if you spent a wonderful summer with someone, only to have them disappear without a word and leave you with a gift? That's what Laney dealt with. She spent the summer with a man she'd never forget, and he left her with his child, along with a fake name. Unable to reach him, she decides to raise her daughter alone. Malcolm never forgot Laney over the past five years. He never expected to run into her again. She's wary of him after he left her. Can he convince her to give him another chance?
This was a nice read. Was a slow burn and a slow moving story. Not much drama. I liked how they were honest with each other once they saw each other after 5 years. She was much stronger character than he was. There was no interaction with his family or her family. That would have added another level with his parents. I would have like more conflict or drama to spice up the story. The love scenes are tastefull. I enjoyed the read.
This second chance romance is sweet and spicy. Laney and Malcolm step out of character for a weekend with consequences that come full circle years later. I enjoyed their reunion and how they were open to a second chance at love. I didn't like all the nicknames-it felt corny and belittled the relationships. I also felt the spicy scenes unnecessary -would have liked this time spent on greater character development. It is a perfect quick escape for a few hours.
A great second chance story for Laney and Malcolm. A summer fling has life long consequences and for Laney devastating news, her fling wasn’t who he said he was. Fast forward to her meeting the new CEO, none other than her disappearing fling. She now has to tell him about what he left behind and decide if they can work something out. A head warming story with lots of twists you don’t see coming.
Love this story about second chances. Malcolm meets Delaney as a summer fling, though he doesn't use his real name and when he leaves without saying goodbye, she's left heartbroken and pregnant. Years later they meet again and soon fall in love, but then tragedy strikes. Read this amazing book, you'll definitely fall in love with this story!
At first I couldn't decide what i thought about this book. I thought it was cute but I also it was a bit dorky. Dorky because of all of so many pet names! Now, given that, it was a sweet 2nd chance story. The timeline for a child is perfect. A 4 year old child easily accepts and she plays her part well and got what she wanted. Lol.
This is a cute little read. The pace at which it moves it great. There are several hits in this book that I didn't see coming but we're a good little twist to this one. I'm glad there was a HEA to this book!
I love second chance romance! Nick Laney had no idea that Malcolm had given her a fake name. So when their summer was over, there was no way for her to get a hold of him to tell him that she was pregnant.
Sweet, Beautiful heart-felt second chance romance! A quick read that definitely held my interest and had me feeling everything. There are several twists in this book that I didn't see coming. Absolutely loved it! Highly recommend.
Laney and Malcolm get a second chance 5 years after a summer fling. A lot transpired since, and they work through challenges together now. I thoroughly enjoyed their story.
Sweet second chance romance! A quick read that definitely held my interest and had me feeling everything! Loved Malcom’s interaction between Laney and their daughter and how they handled everything that happens. Great read for when you need a HEA!
