Supernatural Curse #2

Bound of Blood

Rate this book
The Fire Wolf and I found my abducted twin, but my life is hardly back to normal . . .

Let's see, my hired hunter has decided I'm his mate, my twin sister is blaming me for her abduction, a crazy and dangerous supernatural is now after my magic, and I'm somehow supposed to keep running Practically Perfect despite the disaster that is my life.

Sigh . . . I just can't win, especially when the crazy supernatural comes looking for me and my hired hunter goes into full-blown territorial werewolf mode. Did I mention that I haven't accepted his mating bond?

Now, it's getting real, especially when I learn that my hunter has kept a very dark secret from me . . . a secret that affects my very way of life.

Bound of Blood is book two in a four-book shifter paranormal romance series with passionate slow-burn steam.

I liked this one so much! Unfortunately, I completely forgot to write up a review while this was still fresh. This one was fun and entertaining! I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in this series!

My opinion of Tala remains….annoying and unfocused as hell. That being said her new gifts are fascinating and she has a lot of potential to be a good FMC in the end.

We learn more about Kaillen *sigh*. He is magnificent. The ultimate alpha plus a lot more. My heart breaks for him and what Tala puts him through. I hope in book three she acknowledges the pain she has caused him and makes things right.

Looking forward to book 3!

Happy reading,

Sorry but it seemed like a filler book. Didn’t need to be 4 books!

Yes there are a couple of good bits, at the beginning and at the end!!! The rest of it is boring!!! It feels like the author stretched out ONE book into four! And please I’m begging you, stop writing Tala saying ‘Oh gods.’ Over and over again!!! Aaaargh.

So the mysterious Jakob has realised it’s Tala who has the power. And after she is attacked, Kaillen/ FireWolf takes her to his pack, for protection. When that doesn’t work out, he takes her to his home.

I really don’t like Tala. She loves Kaillen, he loves her, but because his wolf says ‘mate’ she thinks it isn’t real. So why are her feelings real, but his aren’t??? She spends the whole book sending mixed signals to him. One minute she’s all over him, the next she’s avoiding him and treating him like he’s the enemy. Why??? I actually felt like he was a wimp for putting up with her and not telling her she’s being a b…ch!!!

Yes I am flaming reading book three. As I want to know what happens. It’s annoying me so much though.

I'm sorry but ain't no fucking way the FMC turned into such a fucking dumbass.

OH MY FUCKING GOD the amount of miscommunication in this book like lord oh lord why is this girl acting like she can fucking read minds all of a sudden.

It's so frustrating to read how far low Tala's character falls. She's constantly telling and assuming what Killian's feelings are and where they came from.

He quite literally says "Having you in my bed is something I’ve craved since the first moment we met” and she goes on to fucking say that he can't POSSIBLY mean what he literally told her to her face.

She's absolutely dismissive of his feelings because of his species, which she obviously knows very little about, but tries to tout her having all this knowledge because she went out with one dude that one time that many years ago. LIKE BITCH BE FOR FUCKING REAL RIGHT NOW.

Book 1 really had me thinking she was smart, practical, and straightforward, but this book just did her character so wrong. Tala is not the strong, sensible one initially written to be. Her character sadly falls into the realm of cliche. Unoriginal. And so incredibly disappointing.

BIG filler book full of the FMC being annoying and her randomly getting hurt just so the guy she keeps leading on coming to save her and then another big betraying cliffhanger to start off book 3.

Worse then the first book but thankfully the sister being horrible isn’t the plot point in this book.

The artificial dragging out of their mating is, though! The heroine gets really hurt for really dumb reasons and the one kinda real reason isn’t dealt with in this book. At least she finally tells him why she hasn’t accepted him but instead of a resolution we get ANOTHER “betrayal” on top of it. Ugh. And all the hero can do is act like a kicked puppy dog over her rejection. This isn’t fun and it doesn’t look like it will get resolved quickly so I’m stopping this series for now.

I had enjoyed the first book in this series and was interested to see where the story continued, but I absolutely hated this book - driven by how much I absolutely could not stand the completely annoying, immature, inconsistent, and b**chy heroine. Tala was just the absolute worst and since the entire book is from her perspective, I could not wait for the book to be over. Needless to say I will not be continuing on with this series.

Book 2 Sucks!

I liked her so much in book one, but in book two she absolutely sucks! I will not give a damn about a person if they continually was disrespectful and dismissive towards me AFTER I SAVED YOUR MISERABLE LIFE.

Repeatedly, this dumb-smart bitch keeps pushing him away when he gave her no reason to do so. Then she says she loves him? How, bitch?! I swear these stories really are annoying at a certain point 😒

I don’t think I like it but I can’t stop reading

It’s really annoying. I’m glad her sister isn’t really in this book because she makes me glad fictional characters aren’t real but a lot of the other characters including the two main ones really irritated me. Yet for some reason I can’t stop reading it.

Yeah, I'm going to DNF this one. So much potential! I really started getting annoyed at the MFC pushing the main MMC away. She constantly treats him like a jerk even in the same breath saying that he's really a nice guy. I checked out the reviews and it seems like she doesn't improve. Shame because I really love Fire Wolf and was interested in the story but she's a idiot.

Girl, Kaillen should just drop Tala because she is making me craaaaazzzyyyy. Kaillen is giving me all the werewolf-isms that I was craving in book one so hell yeah for that.
This book is giving me major blue balls, though. The slow burn is literally (and I mean literally) KILLING me. I might not survive this.

2-1/2 stars

In the beginning of the book, Kaillen arrived at Tala’s apartment that Carlos does not see. But later on, Carlos is written talking about Kaillen, coming out of the portal, like he saw it happen, when he did not, he did not even realize Kaillen was there until Kaillen walked up on he and Tala.
Tala continuously refers to Kaillen as “the hunter” or Fire Wolf. Why? It makes no sense when she knows his name and has a relationship with him, he’s not the stranger she hired where it would be appropriate to call him those things. It’s ridiculous.
Timeline off with Kaillen’s age. He says he’s 28, which Tala had come to the conclusion of earlier after being told he was 18 when he left his pack, and it was NEAR 10 years when he and she went to his pack. NEAR. That means he HAS NOT turned 28 yet, he’s 27. It is further quantified that he left the second he turned 18, so he turned 18 the day he left, and it’s not been 10 years yet, it’s near 10.
Why is Tala listening to ANYTHING Carlos had to say about Kaillen? He doesn’t know him. She continued to reference what Carlos had to say when making assumptions and judgments of Kaillen. More and more Tala became unlikeable, more and more annoying. It was overshadowing her times of witty banter and comments she made or thought. She agrees to have Kaillen train her, but whines about him watching her while her eyes were closed as he told her to close them and was asking questions about what she felt from her magic? So, the one training you is supposed to have their eyes closed? Not supposed to watch what you’re doing, what is happening? Why she didn’t have this same complaint when her best friend’s father was training her? It was just so stupid what came out Tala’s mouth. And stupid the lack of what failed to come out of her mouth, have a conversation! All her assuming of how Kaillen felt before his wolf scented her is WAY overdone. She’s too darn old for that crap. It’s been said a few times in the last book and this one how she is pretty straightforward in what she says, yet, she can’t be straightforward about this? I don’t mind a slow burn, this isn’t that.
And then there’s the cliché interruption, eye roll. The sister of Kaillen is a female werewolf, not described to be human, just unable to shift, so enhanced hearing, smell and sight has to be present, and she just walks in Kaillen’s home and knows nothing until she gets to his bedroom door? Really? Even Tala is written as “scenting” various smells, yet Ocean, a female werewolf scents nothing? Uh huh.
Cameron is a 39 years old supposed to be grown man. His middle school behavior why? And he’s married too? Hard eye roll.
The more I read, the more the star rating fell. Skimming got me through this book, I am debating continuing on. I feel like next book isn’t going to be better, so may be time to bow out when I have feeling I’ll have to skim to get through, or all out skip forward.

We’re at the second book in the Supernatural Curse series, and the tension isn’t letting up. I admit I’m not hugely fond of pure romance because I love the mystery/suspense element too much, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy when it’s written well. This author writes it very well. Tala is an interesting character, and I love the interaction between her and the Fire Wolf. I loved seeing the Fire Wolf’s family dynamic (what jerks!), and I can’t wait to see what happens when he finally admits what he’s done. This is a captivating series, and I can’t wait to read the next one. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

4.25 ⭐️ these books are actually so good! Which I didn’t doubt but I wasn’t sure would be to this level considering they are all less than 400 pages!

So we start back when Tala and Kaillen have told the authorities everything that happened when Tessa was kidnapped. Talas ex, Charlos, is trying to get her back and Kaillen is jealous. After Tala is pushed out a window during another kidnap attempt, Kaillen heals her with his magic blood and they go to his hometown so he can protect her. Turns out his half brothers hate him because they feel their dad betrayed their mums memory when Kaillen was conceived. Even though Kaillens dad, Paxton, and his sister, Ocean, are supportive of him.
Kaillen starts helping Tala train her mysterious magic, while they are loving and fighting with their pull towards each other. Kaillens brother kidnaps Tala to sell her off to the crime syndicate from book 1, and after Kaillen saves her he reveals that he thinks the blood he used to save her life has turned her into a werewolf!

Similar to the first book, given this story is just over 300 pages, you don’t expect for it to be as detailed and thorough as it has been! But it’s all in there. Everything is fairly fast paced, and mostly well explained. Weirdly, the first chapter feels almost unedited. Within the first page she refers to Carlos as her “ex” every single time he’s referred to, it’s incredibly annoying and feels unpolished. Thankfully by chapter 2 the writing is back to its regular level.
We do get some small amount of down time when Tala is meeting his family, learning about him and who is he, and they are trying to figure out what their relationship is to each other. The relationship development is there. They clearly want each other, even though she thinks it’s just his mating bond and nothing else. Everything is well explained and detailed through 300 pages, not allowing any boredom or confusion.

Tala is still the arrogant, feisty, stubborn girl that we met in the first book. It’s well explained that she’s set in her ways about his feelings towards her, and that the only reason he has feeling towards her is because of his mating bond. Not that she’s ever asked him. This whole ideation becomes somewhat frustrating because she is so steadfast in her opinion she doesn’t leave any room for him to give any level of explanation to her. It’s almost immature in a sense, but I think that the writing here has been intentional so that the slow burn is dragged out. Because the slow burn is slow burning. Two books in no sex, no declaration towards each other, just burning tension.
Tala is once again using her intelligence to piece things together very quickly. It’s enjoyable to see. It’s also nice to see an FMC who has very little self-doubt and it’s confident in her abilities. As opposed to FMC of other popular books who are weak and everything about them needs to be developed for future character development. There’s a small amount of character development to Tala but given that she’s so confidence in who she is, there’s perhaps less of a need for it in the writing. Which makes it easier to fit into 300 pages.
While her stubbornness is incredibly annoying at some points the writing of her character is consistent and fitting for the book. It’s getting increasingly frustrating that she has basically spent 85% of this book referring to him still as “the fire wolf” or “hunter”. She knows his name she needs to use it. Whether this was a desired point in the book or just a lack of detail in the writing it’s annoying.

Kaillen is making decisions without including her, which is a common trait within the MMC’s of our fantasy universes. Another frustrating addition to the writing, but it’s almost making you ask what would a fantasy book be without this. It’s nice to see him relax he’s almost considered happy through the middle of this book, while he and Tala getting to know each other. It’s been a really nice addition to his character development. We learn a lot about Kaillen, his backstory and what’s made him into the person that he is now. The character development is really strong here, it’s well written and detailed to be fit into just over 300 pages.
Even though he’s become a lot more relaxed, it is hard to decipher through a majority of this book if he does have true feelings towards Tala or if it is just the mating bond as she suspects. I think this is a smart addition to the writing, it’s leaving you guessing, the slow burn is still slow burning.
The revelation at the end that he suspects his blood has turned her into a werewolf is dramatic and opens the storyline well for the next book. He probably should’ve told her sooner than he did, we’re going back to the annoying trope of MMC is just not revealing any information expecting everyone to be okay with it. But he’s hot and fiercely protective of her so we’ll take it.
The backstory of why his brothers and the other members of the werewolf pack hate him so much is really sad, the writings been done quite well here in the detail as to the disadvantages of his genetic make up are written in great detail so that you feel great sadness towards his depressing story.

While this is no literary masterpiece, it’s Setup really well for the next book and has great advantage to the amount of detail that’s able to be fit into a small story. Interested to see what comes next with the recent developments of Talas expanding magic power, and the possibility she is now a wolf.

Cameron your an absolute tit of epic proportions hope karma comes for you. 😈
Tala you’re just perfect! Kaillen dude! Perhaps crossed a line there…. Side effects not intended, didn’t really fully understand the consequences. Hope it works out man, I fear for your health otherwise.

Did not see that coming at all! What a freaking ending!

Didn't quite get as much enjoyment out of this one as the first.

I felt like tala's inner monologue was super repetitive... and not a lot happened plot wise.
Tala also constantly still referring to kaillen as 'fire wolf' or 'the hunter' instead of his name really grinded my gears!

i also guessed the ending pretty early on..
hopefully, the next one is a bit better!

Disappointed

Tala was annoying as helllllllllll in this book. I understand some of her doubt. Ok I don't but I can see where the author was trying to go with it. She was stubborn to the point of being petulant and childish. What I loved abt her in the first book is gone here. She was more annoying. Put your big girl pants on and communicate. That means also listening to the other person and allowing them to speak. I get why she is mad at "Fire Wolf" at the end but the other alternative would have been she died. Then the person who betrayed them...smh. I hope there is some serious repercussion for this person.

I feel as if the tension between Tala and Fire Wolf could have been avoided early on if they just acted like grown adults attracted to each other. Their actions were things teens would do. Book one was great and I wanted to learn more about the different supernaturals but alot of the pages seemed a bit wasted on her avoiding him. I am seriously hoping book 3 helps redeem things.

This one annoyed me a bit more than the first. The way that Tala treats Kaillen is super shitty, and it’s all based on baseless assumptions. I think the lack of communication trope is one that I hate the most, and it’s kind of turned me off of reading the rest of the series.

*I actually give this book a a three and a half star rating, but it won't let me give half's*

Despite my rating I really did enjoy this book. The characters are well developed and the story was interesting...that being said...

I am incredibly annoyed with Tala's denial of what is going on around her. The continuous urge for her to run from Kaillin is beyond frustrating. She blames everything on his wolf side and mating instinct crap without looking at the facts, or even the man himself. She is soooo focused on shielding herself from the hurt she believes is coming that she can't pull her head out of her ass for a moment.
Legit every time she mentioned there bond, she immediatly followed it with a comment about him not loving her for the person she is...which in my opinion is the furthest thing from the truth.
Kaillin pushes himself beyond all the walls he has put up against others to show her that he cares and yet she continues to ignore it. She causes him pain and misery trying to avoid the truth, and even worse is that she isn't getting that the mate bond isn't just going to disappear. She fears intimacy so much that she would rather cause them both pain and suffering than actually looking at the bigger picture.
Tala and Kaillen's bond is a beautiful thing, and I am getting angry screaming at the book. I was hoping in this one she could melt her defenses just a little, but instead she puts up more walls between the two. I MEAN HE SAVES HER REPEATEDLY FROM DEATH and all she can think about is how he had betrayed and hurt her. In my opinion he has done nothing of the sort.

I genuinely hope that in the third book she can give into some of this love she feels for Kaillin.

As per usual with Krista Street books, I am loving her male lead. He is broken inside and looking for the comfort he so rightfully deserves. I get woman can be stubborn, but the pain I see from him is heart wrenching. Like watching someone drown with no ability to save them from their fate. Its rattling to say the least...

This book was impactful and interesting. I enjoyed finding out more about Kaillin's background and meeting his family. His sister Ocean(yes that's his sisters name) is a wonderful person who deserves more than she gets from the rest of her siblings. Kaillin's father is awesome, and tortured just like his son. The story about how Kaillin came to be was heartbreaking and sad...mourning does horrible things to people in the face of having one chance at seeing there love again.
Finally Kaillin's brothers are asshat's, and that's me putting it nicely. They judge there brother based on things he can not control and ostracize him based on nothing. It makes them aweful people.

All in all the only reason this is rated three and a half is due to Tala's inability to see past her own self doubt and give into something that would clearly heal the pain she carries around. I will give the author this...she makes me feel! plain and simple. The true sign of a good author is getting you to have emotional reactions to the characters that they write about, and the stories they unfold. Though I hate Tala's lack of affection towards her companion, it is impressive that I feel this strongly about it.

I did like reading this book but really there wasn’t anything to it? And I mean the plot wasn’t evident. It’s more like they’re living day to day doing mundane things or not so mundane since they’re supernaturals, but it’s a constant back and forth between Tala and Kaillen.

And let me tell you, tala is mad annoying in this book. She acts more like a teenager and has communication issues and just runs from her problems out of fear of her own broken heart. She doesn’t even talk to Kaillen about anything between them or even asks the real questions. He tries to be civil and kind and she just constantly pushes him away AFTER leading him on. She’s 25 and acts 18. She was much better in book one so I don’t know what happened here.

Also the books don’t read like individual stories but following the same bigger plot. It reads as if each one of these books was typed out on a single, long document and then just split up at certain points to create four novels. That doesn’t bother me, but it might bother some. So that’s why I’m mentioning it.

Also Kaillen just does wrong things so many times. He’s not much better at communication either, but after leaning his back story, I suppose some of it is warranted. But we know more about him and his life before than we do about the main character!!

Where does Tala’s forbidden power come from?? Why does her sister have almost nothing?? What is this other random power that she discovers and trains to use?? Where did IT come from?? Tala is just some special snowflake with 0 rhyme or reason. I’m sure there is one, but the answer is yet to be revealed.

I’ll still be reading the 3rd one. But this were my major complaints.

Fun and enjoyable book! Tala is really getting on my nerves tho. I mean, just fuck him already! She even admitted she was falling in love with him and still she denies herself. It seems wholly unfounded. She
Doesn’t even explain why she feels the way she does or give him a chance to explain. Fire wolf is still amazingly sexy and I love his character. I just wish they would get together already. I guess this is the slow burn that others love. Haha. I don’t think I love that troupe. The plot thickens and I love watching the fire wolf help her train. He definitely wants her to be able to protect herself.

The family drama that Kaillen (fire wolf) has to endure should spell trouble!! And it did. His slimy brother gives her to the sorcerers! Saw that betrayal coming for sure from someone that hates him as much as they did.

I wish there was more to the relationship with her bestie. She’s a good character but that’s not enough. Tessa is as irritating as ever. Come to think of it? Tala is irritating too. Fire wolf obviously wants to make ties with her and he needs people!! He needs comfort and closeness. And it seems pretty obvious that he’s never had it before. It makes me hurt for him.

I could totally tell with her increased senses that she was going to be a werewolf. I just didn’t call the whole he spelled her blood scenario. I guess we will see how that goes! The whole big bad guy goes, that plot seems slow too. Overall, not much happened but you want it. I’m gonna give book 3 a chance bc they are fun reads and kinda mindless. But I like that every now and then. Come on book 3, let’s finally have some sex!!!

Talk about your cliffhanger!!

We pick up right where Wolf of Fire left off, but things just got way more dangerous!! Now that Jakub knows that it’s Tala who possess the power he’s been seeking he’s fully invested in making sure his goons follow through in abducting her right out of her everyday life… the life Tala worked so hard for. Abduction attempts that almost cost Tala her life. Unfortunately with multiple abduction attempts on her and her sister the SF give them an ultimatum either leave Chicago to hide, or stay with a giant target on their backs. Therefore putting them and everyone they care about in harms way. So the sisters choose to leave their everyday lives behind and go into hiding, Tessa (a bit inappropriately excited) to a safe house under SF protection, and Tala to the Fire Wolfs pack in Ontario. While there she starts tapping into her new power, trying to figure out how to control it, how to use it to her advantage. Not only that though she starts to get to know a bit more about Fire Wolf, his family, his pack, his backstory!! Which I absolutely adored we were able to get a peek into his past. In getting to know each other Tala and Fire Wolfs relationship continues to grow and flourish, but there’s still a massive wall that the two must get over. While their relationship grows in this book there’s still so much for them to work through that I can’t wait to see!! And then without giving to much away… THAT CLIFFHANGER!! This is a must read and I can’t wait for book three!!

4.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I legitimately devoured this book in under three and a half hours soooo 😅 Needless to say, I could NOT put this down once I started, so I expect the las two installments of Supernatural Curse series to be the same👌🏽

To be completely honest, I WANTED to give this book a 5/5 🌟 but I couldn’t convince myself to give the full out rating because Tala was a bit frustrating in this 1️⃣ The constant pushing away and questioning the Fire Wolf’s motivations in his feelings about her was VERY exhausting. Unfortunately, any solution to this problem that I thought would appear before the end of the book did not come. So, it looks like by the next installment may have an even more complicated situation between Kaillen and Tala 🫠

In other news, I absolutely LOVED every other part of this installment 📚 Plus, learning about Kaillen’s origin and his family dynamics was a moment of major understanding and satisfaction. It was wonderful getting to see his interactions with Ocean and his father 🫶🏼 comparatively to those with Cameron and Gavin 🤬 Obviously, these two are beyond terrible, but I hate Cameron with a passion.

Obviously, the whole “women werewolf” situation is going to be an interesting one, and while I see why Tala is hurt, I just LOVE Kaillen so I am PRAYING that she forgives him much quicker than I am anticipating based on the last installment…📖 My reader’s heart can only hope that this transition will be the key to finally unlocking Tala and Kaillen’s LOVE for one another 🔑 I mean, it’s about time 😉
