Disclaimer: This series is a continuation of my Watcher series of books. You need to have read the following series (in this order) to understand what is happening in this story: The Watchers Trilogy, The Watcher Chronicles, and Caylin's Story. Please be advised that this series will contain sexual situations of a mature nature. If I were to rate this series like a movie, I would rate it 'R'.
On the night Anna was born, she was promptly sent away from the down-world to live in the cloud city of Cirrus. That very same night her future was decided for her when she became betrothed to Crown Prince Augustus Amador. For twenty-one years, she has lived as Lady Anna, future Empress of Cirrus and proud daughter of Andre Greco. Although Anna's destiny seemed laid out for her, fate intervenes to reveal the true path she was always meant to take. With the unexpected arrival of Malcolm Devereaux into her world, Anna knows without a shadow of a doubt that she has finally been reunited with the missing piece of her soul. Chaos and turmoil soon turn Anna's once docile life upside down, but she knows with Malcolm by her side she can accomplish the mission she was born to undertake. Not only must Anna fight against the princes of Hell, but she must also find a way to help Malcolm stop living in the past so they can have a chance at a future.
Once upon a time, a little girl was born on a cold winter morning in the heart of Seoul, Korea. She was brought to America by her parents and raised in the Deep South where the words ma'am and y'all became an integrated part of her lexicon. She wrote her first novel at the age of eight and continued writing on and off during her teenage years. In college she studied biology and chemistry and finally combined the two by earning a master's degree in biochemistry. After that she moved to Yankee land where she lived for four years working in a laboratory at Cornell University. Homesickness and snow aversion forced her back South where she lives in the land which spawned Elvis Presley, Oprah Winfrey, John Grisham and B.B. King. After finding her Prince Charming, she gave birth to a wondrous gift named Caylin and they all lived happily ever after.
The second book to the Harvester of Light trilogy will be available for purchase no later than December 2012.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 💙❤️💚💜 Steam: 🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙 World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍🌎 Character development: 😊😘😟🤓 Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Solo Narration
The heroine:Anna - on the day she was born things were set in motion for her that would take control of her life. The man that promised to watch over her was so saddened by the death of her mother in childbirth that he made plans to send her away to Cirrus and promised her in marriage to Crown Prince Augustus Amador. He called her an abomination, but still thought he was doing what was best for her and sent her with his best friend, who she grew up with for 21 years thinking of as her father, but everything went to hell the week before she was to be married.
The Hero:Malcolm - He is a fallen angel and lived on the Earth, which is down world from Cirrus, which is a city in the clouds. Earth is divided into districts, and Malcolm is the main money maker. Each of the districts has to give a share of their earnings to the royal house on Cirrus every year and Malcolm’s district pays more than all the other districts combined. Though Malcolm always sends an emissary and never comes to Cirrus himself.
The Story: Anna loved her father, and loved Prince Augie who was her best friend. Though Augie was gay and in love with someone else, she was prepared to marry him and become Empress. However, a week before the wedding was to take place, Augie returned after a secret meeting with his love and he was a complete stranger. He accused Anna of treason for sending and receiving mail with a known rebel. The rebel in question just happened to be Augie’s true love.
I read nearly all the books in the Watchers Universe about 6 or 7 years ago and loved them all. Though I have literally read thousands of books since then, so I didn’t remember all that much. I did remember that Malcolm was one of my favorite characters, even when he was in love with Lily. Since she loved someone else, I couldn’t wait for Malcolm’s story, and I originally put this book as 5 stars, and though that was before I started writing reviews, I think I would now give this one 4 stars because it just didn’t hold my interest as much as I thought it would.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Elizabeth Evans. I think this was the first time I had listened to her narration. However, she is extremely good and this was one of the few times I didn’t mind a solo female narrator.
Unfreaking believable ending! Where is book 2 & 3 and 4 ......love this series!
A few months back, I was searching for something different to read because I didn't want to read the same old YA Romance stories. I needed a different genre so I tried out SJ West's Watchers Trilogy. Well, I found out there was more series that continued and so I read "The Watchers Chronicles" which consisted 4 books in that series. I was surprised that there were actually more that continued with the previous characters and found "Devoted & Timeless Dulogy". Guess what? I was so psyched that Malcolm had been in all those books and he was finally getting his own series that would be set 1000 yrs later than the first books.
I read Malcolm in one setting and I am still in love with this series. Malcolm was my very character and admired how much his love was so devoted to Lilly from the Watchers Series books and throughout the years. In this book, Malcolm is his usual self which is always Hot, Humorous & very Feisty. I fell in love with Anna's character and could see how much of her linage was in her. I was very surprised to find out who her real biological father was so that was unexpected.
I felt the emotional pull of heartbreak between Malcolm and Anna, whom one was fighting to win one another's devotion and love while the other one was pushing away and denying that it could never happen. Of course, we have a huge cliffhanger so I cannot wait for Anna's book next. I fell in love with Lucas so I cannot wait for more of that little adorable boy in the next book.
After this series and you and want more of Sandra's books, try out her "Harvester Trilogy" which is an Apocalyptic Romance series with action and thrills. I loved it just as much!
What can I say that hasn't already been said, SJ West does it again. At first I wasn't sure about reading Malcolm's story that is set so far in the future, mainly because all the other characters that we have all come to love thru the first 2 series have accomplished the tasks given to them by God and have moved on from this life. Having read Malcolm, it was a stroke of genius, as the reader we have no choice but to focus on just Malcolm and Anna and let's face it, Malcolm deserves all of our attention. He has always been leading man material, his character is so complex and I feel we are finally really getting to know him a little better. I can't wait to see how his and Anna's story will unfold I have no doubt that their story will be just as complex and intoxicating as the stories of the other soul mates of the previous series. Spring 2014 can not come soon enough!
I thought this story to be so beautifully written. The way she describes love and soul mates is something that everyone wishes to feel at some point in their lives. I felt Anna's hurt when she lost those she held close but also for what she thought she had lost but actually gained. Her character is amazing and inspiring, it's hard to believe she is fiction. As for Malcolm who wouldn't love him even more now.
I read all the previous books about the Watchers and loved them. Malcolm and Anna's story did not disappoint at all. ***Spoiler***
The only negative was it took until the end of the book for Malcolm to finally admit his love for Anna and then BOOM! the baddy guys drop in and spoil the moment lol I got over it pretty quick and reminded myself there is a book 2.
Absolutely exciting and exhilarating from the first sentence. You simply cannot close this book without dreaming of the story. Love it and wish there was a real Malcolm.
This one is my favorite book by SJ yet!! A must-read! I promise you will love it. I kind of want to give a more detailed review but do not want to spoil it for anyone. So, just know it is very very good!
Sorry but I found this book a terrible read. I didn’t feel any connection between the characters and I didn’t connect to the story at all. The writing was subpar with poor dialogue and rudimentary story telling.
So after not crying at a book guaranteed to have millions of sobbing women, I was reduced to tears with this one..sobbing quietly so I didn't wake OH up. Poor Anna. S.J west has held me captive since the second set of books in this series (I wasn't too enthused with Lily and Brand but gave the follow ups a go and glad I did!) and my heart broke just a little for Anna. Why? Well its like this. She has been brought up by her father on a cloud city and promised to the emperor since birth following the death of her mother. Unfortunately, he is her best friend and despite practicing kisses...its like kissing her brother. He also loves her like his best friend, but his heart belongs to another person. But both of them are content to make a good marriage if it comes to that. Anna is hopeful there is someone out there who will make the earth stop when she sees him. And there is. But unfortunately, her betrothed is ousted from his body by the evil Levi, who wants to marry Anna and have him bear him a child because after all, her biological father managed it. (no spoilers here but you might have a good guess cos the story is told anyway in flashbacks) Anna discovers powers she never knew she had. Flying....phasing, being able to kill princes with her hands...sound familiar? Yes its the one we have been waiting for. The one Malcolm has been living for to arrive. The only problem is he is still entirely in love with Lily. He doesn't believe there will ever be one for him and when he feels Anna's pain and phases into her rooms..he still refuses to believe it. For her the world stops. She has found her soulmate and she is determined to keep him at all costs. And if she can't, she she promises Jered she will let him go because she wants him to be happy and if she can't do that then she will relieve him of his bond. Malcom as we know, can be cruel when he wants to be and as he is trying to deny the ever growing bond...the crueler he gets until he breaks her heart. She lets him go but cannot hide her pain and it takes a visit from one of her predecessors to make him see sense. Of course, the path to true happiness isn't going to end with a kiss. And so you will need to continue the series because this girl has a mission and she is going to fulfil it or die trying.
Malcolm, The Redemption Series Book One by Author/Writer S.J. West Read 1 October 2024
Once again, I have been enraptured within the pages of the world I've come to exist in for many years now, and with each book of this continuing story, I'm held with excitement, anticipation, awe, and wonder: for what will happen to the characters I've come to love, and there lives. Author S.J. West so masterfully pens with such eloquence that one can't help but get caught up and even lost in this brilliant world of her imagination.
If reading in order, I'm now on book fifteen. From The Watchers Trilogy, Watchers Chronicles, Caylin's Story, Aiden's Story, The Alternate Earth Series, Devotion, the Mae and Tristan's Story, and now Malcolm; I am eternally hooked! Next, in the succession of these truly amazing books is 'Anna', which is book two in The Redemption Series, 'Malcolm' being book one.
As the story that began in 'The Watchers Trilogy' continues, I am looking forward to what comes next. I absolutely recommend this entire series of books and the extraordinary journey they will take you on! I can say with surety that you will never ever be the same once you've entered into this enchanted world!
I don't normally do any spoiler alerts but this one has at least one of spoiler alert!!! I have read every book in the series from the the beginning with The Watchers Trilogy and have been hooked ever since, BUT, this series has absolutely been amazing!!! Malcom has finally found his true love ❤️ AMEN!! I so happy 😁 at last!! It took over a thousand years, but it was worth the wait to bad Levi is in the way to spoil it!!! I hope he gets his day in hell !!!!!
I cannot believe all the different plots, twist and I never saw it coming on who was Anna's father OMG!!! That was a great twist in my book !!! Amazing Keep it coming!! Can't wait to read the next book !! Definitely recommend all these books to read , but you have to read them in order or you will definitely be lost!! Enjoy I do, sometimes I can't put them down and I finish them in a day, lol!! 😂🤣😂😂
Listened on Audible. Had to strain my patience to make it to 27% and then returned the book.
Narrator is Elizabeth Evans, and she's insanely talented at bringing stories to life. She's probably the only reason I made it as far as I did.
Main female character is a fucking idiot. She's incredibly self-absorbed and "falls in love" the second she sees Malcolm. In rapid-fire succession, she's told about angels, lords of hell, her father goes missing and her best friend is killed, and her literal response equates to: oh, ok. That's acceptable- and rather than any rational response you'd expect these events to evoke, she's obsessed with "why doesn't Malcolm immediately love me the second we meet."
Such a juvenile, unrelatable, ridiculous story. I can't wrap my head around why it has such a high general rating.
SPOILERS WOWWWWW I LOVE THIS SERIES. I'm so glad we got 4 books with Malcom and his soulmate Anna.
I think it was a beautiful story showing how Malcom and Anna meet and fall in love. He fight against being the soul mate for Anna, because he doesn't feel that he is good enough for her, and it takes a visit with Lilly to come to his senses finally.
I like how there was a struggle for Malcom and Anna to be together. Overall, it had me hooked and I was glad I contiuned the series. The only series that did not hold my attention was The Alternate Earth series. But, read all four books you will love them.
I've read and really enjoyed the Watcher Trilogy and the Watches Chronicles, so I was excited to try out another series by S.J. West. Though it had been a while since reading the others.
This book was difficult for me to get into. So much repetitive inner monologue! About 2/3 of the way through I feel like the inner woe's died down a little bit in favor of the advancement of the plot, so I got into it a lot more. By the end of the book I was into more of a 4 star rating feeling, but it took too long for me to get there.
I will be reading on and hoping the next book continues to move more similarly to the end of Malcom's book (with a little less inner woeing).
Great start to the Redemption series. This series is a continuation/ spin-off from the Watchers and it is great! Salvation and Redemption are what lies ahead for Malcolm, a brooding (he’s an excellent brooder!) GORGEOUS angel, if he can accept love. But he so stubborn (I wanted to smack him a couple of time lol) and doesn’t want to accept love. In the same instance, you want to hug this bear of a man/angel. The fallen angels want to rule the world and it’s up to Malcolm and Anna to stop them. After reading this book, get your funds ready as it’s a cliff hanger and you’ll WANT to get book 2.
Wasn’t sure what I was expecting from this book. It came as a recommendation and the blurb had me intrigued. I was hesitant when I started to read the story but found that I quickly fell in love with Anna, Andre and Auggie are totally devoted to her and would do anything for her. But as the story progresses life isn’t what it first seems to be and things start to happen and not for the good. And just when things start to look up it all goes to hell. I’m glad that I took a chance on this book and I’m looking forward to reading more of this series.
Took a long time to get to this book. I have been reading the entire series of books to see how Malcolm would factor into God’s plans. Now he and Anna have their own story but it certain is a rocky beginning. Rejected since her birth by Malcolm, Anna was sent away to be raised totally without his input. Even though she was descended from Lilly and Jessi’s lines and should have been the purest of souls. Malcolm rejected her. Now as she prepares to marry another, her heart is heavy because she does not have a soul mate match with her soon to be husband.
Considering how long we've waited for Malcolm's HEA I had hoped this book would click with me better. Unfortunately I haven't felt connected to Anna as she's a millennia later than all of her relatives like Lilly, Caylin & Jess 😢 I've found her quite immature even compared to 18 yr old Lilly or Caylin!! I'm gutted. I hope it's just me that's not gelling with the character as if hate for this epic linked series to fall at almost it's last hurdle!!
I couldn't wait see Malcom story, he aways was my favorite, I felt so sad for him in the first 3 books I prefer Brand fo Lili but still felt sad he loves her so much much... but now he is stubborn to let her go.... still love the story, S. J. West is very creative, I can't believe she came up with a future 1000 from now, that I actually think it could be possible that one day we end up in floating citys, the way humans are destroying their self, and nature. Very good job. Recomend to read.
This is a spin off series for the Watcher series which should be read first- however I started with this Redemption series and wasn't disappointed. The Watcher series was just ok for me and I didn't really enjoy the first book. So I skipped the rest of the books and started this one instead. I don't regret that decision. It covers what happened in the previous series so you don't miss anything. Maybe there were some details missing but not enough for me to go back and read the rest of that series (although I still plan to listen to it at some point).
From the moment I started this book I was swept away into this other world in the clouds and when I stopped reading it took a minute to come back to reality - those are the stories that stick with me. This is one of those stories. I still think about it!!
If you enjoyed the previous trilogy then you will enjoy this series just as much, if not more!
Wow I loved this story. If you kinda like the brooding type of the leading male, this is for you. This was a story that I have never seen done before which was very refreshing. Anna is strong but wow it's set up to make her unstoppable and I'm loving it lol. Reading the whole series!
Redemption #1 I knew that Malcolm could be hard to get along with at times, but I had no idea that he could be this big of a prat! I'm not going to spoil it any further than that, but I certainly wanted to smack Malcolm a time or two during this book. Enjoy!
DNF - Quit at 27% Apparently this is a spin off from another series, that I did not read. It made a difference, since I was totally lost & confused of what the heck was going on. This is not a stand-alone book.
When I started this book I wasn't expecting the storyline it was. The charters were great and so well written. I really can't wait to start the next book in the series.
My emotions were all over the place reading this. At times I was sitting at the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens! And the end, holy smokes! S.J West never disappoints!
