I was so excited to read this because its predecessor was really awesome. It’s ending completely intense and I expected the exact same beginning for this third installment.
Me Beginning Reading till mid reading
What happened to my snarky Cassie? Where is she? I guess constant struggle, hunger and war could zap the life out of a person. That’s probably the most logical explanation I could think of. I don’t care though. I just want her back!
Although the writing improved so much since the first book, I think the plot has become a bit too tight especially when a good portion of the story centered on planning, dialogues and bickering among the characters in their mission to defend themselves and the U.S. of A against the Omega.
There are also new characters but they lack that much substance or development to make them very memorable except for Manny who reminds me of Woody Harrelson as Haymitch.
It was only at the middle part where Cassie starts showing her leadership and heroic skills. Also, I didn’t get any Cassie-Chris romance at all except when at the middle of the battle, they praise each other’s strengths. (Very appropriate for the situation, I must say. Lol.)
And then the ending gave me that. omg. Why? Why take the life of a character I love? Why? And then take Cassie and Chris apart? Why?
I’m sure this is the most reasonable conclusion to this book and I’m sure everybody else agrees but I don’t. I just don’t.
Me after reading
Ms. Lane, you’re awesome and beautiful and brilliant and all that but right now, I AM IN A STATE OF REBELLION AGAINST YOU !
Pfft! I’m just bluffing. I still enjoyed the book (the latter half in particular)
This one will be releasing January 24th, 2014. I am so excited to finally get it out there and continue Cassidy Hart's story!! It was intense writing it!
God has definitely blessed Summer with a truly great gift for storytelling! Review to come for release day! A-W-E-S-O-M-E
From June last year, I have been hooked as Cassidy Harts’s life in this dystopian, war torn world, unfolded before me. I think it's safe to say the Collapse Series is my new obsession. It is so very easy for me to just start gushing about everything I love about it, but I fear no amount of words would be able to do that. I find myself thinking about this series even when I’m not reading it. Summer has been very blessed with her story telling ability. I was totally engrossed from the first sentence until the very last period.
Summer’s writing is so realistic. She transfers the reader-whatever age or gender-straight into Cassidy’s life as she and Chris fight to take this country back from the Omega forces. We experience Cassidy’s turmoil in STATE OF REBELLION whether to leave her father and help Chris with the militia or stay safe at the camp with her dad.
STATE OF REBELLION picks up after the militia has met up with other militias. Combining forces to try and defeat Omega. Cassidy is one of my favorite heroines ever. She has matured so much since the STATE OF EMERGENCY. Both her walk and talk show just how confident she is now. She thinks like a kick butt soldier instead of a high school student. She is a force to be reckoned with and everyone knows it-even the other militias. And she is a heck of a shot. Chris can be confident when she is asked to help lead the militias into war.
I absolutely love Cassidy and Chris’s relationship. The way the two characters play off each other. Their conversations are an easy banter of sorts. And with Chris being almost 10 years older than Cassidy, you can see how he strives to take care of her at all cost. But yet in the final pages you can see Cassidy changing and realizing Chris can’t always be there and then the unthinkable happens.
This series has surpassed most of all the other series on my Kindle. As I've said before, this series is one of my favorites.. So in the end, the only thing I hated about STATE OF REBELLION or the Collapse Series as a whole, is I have to wait once more for the next novel. The ending to this novel is the very definition of a cliffhanger.
Still flying through these books in a matter of hours still excited and enthralled by this story. Over the last 3 installments in the Collapse series you have seen Cassidy go from naive young girl just trying to survive, to a solider willing to fight for her life and those of the people she cares about, to finally in State of Rebellion a leader in her own right marching her troops forward holding out hope when all seems lost. And as intriguing as I have found her transformation, I still find myself drawn more to Chris, his influence over Cassie sparked her transformation and as these stories progress he has also become stronger and smarter more influential in affecting change. These characters are so well written and relatable that with each new progression I fid myself wondering if I could do this. Could I survive the initial blow of an apocalypse as Cassidy and Chris did in State of Emergency? Could I find the will to fight back as they did in State of Chaos? Could I continue that fight and allow my responsibilities to escalate because I know the right choice is not always easiest as they do in State of Rebellion? I don't know the answer to those questions if there is one thing I've learned from this series it's that you never know what you are capable of until you are presented with all of your options. I hope I never have to experience anything remotely close to the end of modern society, but one thing I am sure of is that if I did ever end up in a similar situation, I would hope for the kind of personal connections that Cassidy has, the kind that remind you of what you are fighting for, the kind that remind you what you are surviving for.
*I’d like to thank the author for providing an ARC of this book, in exchange for my honest review.*
As the Collapse series is one of my favorite ongoing dystopian stories, I am always excited when a new book is out. I love Cassidy, Chris, and the world in which they live. I assumed wrongly that this book would be the last in the series, but I still wasn’t disappointed in the events that took place in this installment.
After the ending in book two, I couldn’t wait to see what would happen to Cassidy. I like that she did some more growing in this book, taking charge of situations, and pushing her emotions to the back of her mind whenever she could. I love that she still managed to be human, and that we still got glimpses of the girl she was back in book one. She still has insecurities about Chris, but I loved the fact that she didn’t let them get to her. I still think she’s a great narrator for this series, and am anticipating even more character development in the next story, due to what happened at the end of this one.
The side characters were great, as usual. I still think Chris is an amazing love interest, although I am starting to wonder what’s holding him back from declaring his feelings for Cassidy. I was sad that there wasn’t any big scenes between the two of them, but it was wartime. I love the friendship between Sophia and Cassidy, and I think that this was a more prominent element in the story than her romance with Chris, since everyone was busy doing things for the war. Vera was a new character that I don’t have figured out yet, but am hoping to learn more about her in book four. The animosity that Vera has for Cassidy seemed weird, but I’m really hoping that there is an explanation given at some point. Cassidy’s dad put in an appearance as well, and I thought some of his actions were a bit too much, but then, maybe they’re just right for a protective parent.
This books’ plot was all about war. After the huge betrayal in book two, the Freedom Fighters needed to do some serious regrouping. They ended up joining first one organization, and then another. There was action in this book, but it was slow to start. There were some awful scenes, and it really made me feel the horrible atmosphere of war.
Overall, I really liked this installment in the series. I thought it painted a realistic picture of war, and it showed what awful things can happen. There was a bit of drama that I didn’t quite see the point of, but that is a minor complaint. Overall, I definitely recommend any reader of this series to go and pick this one up. Major things happen, and the Omega plot was advanced quite a bit.
* I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review
State of Rebellion was one of my most highly anticipated books of 2014.
This book starts off right where the second book left off. My favorites, Cassidy and Chris, are back and hoping to once and for all defeat Omega. Cassidy has grown so much from the first book to this one. She is definitely one of my favorite heroines and she proved it in this book. She is no longer a naive, just out of high school girl. She is strong, brave, and a natural leader that has become an amazing soldier.
There wasn't a lot of romance in this book, they are in the middle of war, but the little bits here and there left me wanting more of Chris and Cassidy. And speaking of Chris, I absolutely love this dude and can't wait to see more of him in the next book in the series.
The book did start a little slow, but as soon as it picked up the pace it was great. I love all the war scenes in this book and I love how Sumemr makes them feel so real.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I thought this was going to be the last book in the series, but I am glad it's not. I can't wait to see where Summer will take this story next.
I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
State of Rebellion is the third book in the Collapse Series. You’ll definitely want to pick up the first two books in the series before you dive into this novel. State of Rebellion is not however the final book, as State of Rebellion ends on a cliffhanger and has the reader asking more questions than those answered. I will say that some characters we’ve grown to love will die and others lives are in jeopardy. In a dystopian novel, it’s not unexpected that secondary characters will perish. What is extraordinary is that Summer has made it so that you’ve come to care about these secondary characters almost as much as the main characters – Cassidy and Chris. I look forward to continuing the journey with Cassidy and Chris in the next installment of the Collapse Series.
I recommend State of Rebellion to teens thirteen and up. Both boys and girls will be attracted to the Collapse Series.
This has turned to be an all out world. We still have no idea who is behind it but we get closer and closer to an idea. Harry is still pooping up and I am like dude that will be Cassie"s downfall her compassion. People are dying left and right and we still see no end in sight. Cassie has finally grown her woman balls which I am excited about because she can seriously kick ass.
I cannot wait for the next installment. This is really getting intense and I am so overwhelmed with anxiety...
Yep, didn't take me long to get through this one either. With the fast pace, the twists and turns, the EVERYTHING...I couldn't put the book down. Actually, since I started State of Rebellion immediately after finishing State of Chaos I completely forgot that I was on the third book in the series! I love Cassidy and Chris and everyone else for that matter. The Freedom Fighters are a force to be reckoned with!
That's how this book leaves you! As the country collapses around them, Cassidy and Chris team their militia with a larger force to fight against Omega's attempt to take over the US. But, someone is not playing fair, leaving them to fight for their lives without support. Fast paced, exciting, can't wait for #4!
Not sure why some have given negative reviews to this series, but I love it! It is fiction, if I want reality I just go to work. These stories are non-stop, hold your breath, enjoy a good read. I love Cassidy's very real and humorous way of seeing life. Ordering #4 right now.
This book was just as good as the other two. Hate that the end is a cliff hanger because I'm anxious to find out what happened to Chris! I am SO excited to read the fourth book.
Cassidy Hart how I have loved watching you grow, change and mature. I hate the fact it's had to happen so fast but, damn girl I want to be you! Love this series!
It's not often I find a complete series that I have to binge read it all because it's THAT good and I can't read anything else until I get this story and it's characters out of my head. That's what the Collapse series has been for me. It's so well written that the pages just flow by and the action is nonstop so you are quickly turning each page eagerly waiting to see how the characters survive through each situation thrown at them.
I ran across this series while posting a DNF review for a zombie apocalypse book in a series that I thought I would enjoy. The Collapse series isn't about zombies but it is about an apocalypse. In book one, State of Emergency, the United States is hit with an EMP (Electric Magnetic Pulse) which takes out anything that runs on computer based technology: all vehicles, all phones, airplanes, all technology. Los Angeles is the city where our main girl, Cassidy, is living when the EMP hits. She sets out in an old Mustang her Dad had restored since it wasn't affected by the EMP. Being an older vehicle it doesn't have an electronic chip in its engine. Along the way to the rendezvous point she and her Dad had set in the event of a catastrophe, she meets up with a wounded former Navy SEAL named Chris. Book three begins 7 months after the EMP hit and picks up right where the big events at the end of book two, State of Chaos, left our characters.
Chris and Cassidy have been through a LOT together. They have grown closer because of what they've been through and have grown to have great affection for one another. Cassidy has verbalized her feelings for Chris, and though Chris hasn't said those three words back to her, his actions show time and again how much he cares for her and the lengths he is willing to go to protect her.
In this part of their story, they fear that Omega is sending in backup troops to take out the West Coast. The East Coast was hit with the first wave of an invading army - after the major cities were nuked and after the EMP hit. Cassidy and Chris have started their own militia and are calling themselves Freedom Fighters and are committed to doing whatever they can to stop Omega from succeeding in their mission.
When I say nonstop action - this whole story really is. Things always seem to go from bad to worse...and as we grow closer to our main characters, the heart strings get pulled as you worry over them and their dangerous missions.
A new side character that really shines in this story is Manny. Loved him!
Fans of movies and shows like Red Dawn and Revolution will enjoy this series!
Favorite Quotes: Where I'm covered in scars and freckles, she's perfect. Where my hair looks like the TV commercial for a chia pet, hers looks like a salon advertisement for Vidal Sassoon. Figures I'd get stuck with her.
I need Chris more than I need anyone else. Even if the entire war against Omega is an utter failure and we all end up enslaved, if I have Chris, I can survive.
"I'll always need you," I repeat as we pull into the base. He pauses and looks at me, green eyes brimming with emotion. "And I will always need you," he says.
"Not everything is so black and white, my girl. Success and failure isn't just win or lose in this situation. It's progress. It's pushing back. It's standing up for our homeland. If you start thinking about everything that might happen, you'll drive yourself out of your head."
They forced my hand. They expected us to surrender silently. They underestimated our will. And now they are paying the price.
My thoughts on this book: I liked the first two better, but I still love this series. Cassie is a little too "snidy" & sarcastic to be the perfect character, but I still love her & her attitude. I want to shake Chris - come on, dude, show a bit more personality - emotion. I thought some moments could have been written in more detail, like the reuniting of Cassie & her dad. It seemed like their reunion, which was the basis of the first 2 books, wasn't much of anything. But, that comes with the collapse of the world, I suppose. By the end, I kind of feel hopeless towards the whole situation. They seem way out of their league, but I am sure the next book will showcase a victory. I hope there aren't too many more books in this series, as it seems to drag on a bit. Not a fan of when authors make you buy book after book after book just to finish a story. Once this attack ends & life rebuilds for the world (which I am sure it will) I don't see why it would have to drag on anymore than that. I hope the author knows when to cut it off. But I cannot help but love this series & am excited to continue with the next book!

I received an ARC from the author, but unfortunately I was not able to finish before the release. I apologize for that.
State of Rebellion held my attention throughout the story which makes any read good. But the story line of this book in the series seemed to flow along without a lot of twists and turns. The story and character arcs were relatively flat, in my opinion. I wanted more highs and lows.
The plot had a lot of action which will keep readers glued to the book.
The series will continue. I look forward to the next book.
This series just continues on with great characters, a really good story line, and really easy to read. Summer Lane has done a fantastic job of writing a series that is fun to read, easy to read, and after each book, you just want the next one. Each time the series develops a little more and so have the characters. It hasn't stalled, the characters haven't grown stagnant, it continues to develop and grow. Along the way, Cassidy is still a great character and highly amusing. The whole series is worth reading.
This was good but I'm liking this series less than when it started. It's become like a YA war book. It's mostly about a war. And her relationship with Chris is very bland. It is a quick read though. (Despite the fact that it looks like it took me several days. I actually only read it for five hours total.)
ok, so this series is mega frigging addicting! 3 books in 3 days, damn!! only gripe that I have is that the first chapter of each books seems to be a complete summary of all of the book series up to that point, not really needed.
this is one of the better PA/D genre series that I have read in a while. Onto #4!!
This series was giving me major anxiety, so I had to take a break and read something else between. I still enjoyed it, but this installment was just basically depressing. Not to sure if I'm going to keep going.
