Leonie
Dominic Belov.
To the world, he’s a ruthless mafia heir. To me, he was once everything.
The boy who looked under my bed for monsters, the teenager who taught me to fight and helped me study. The man I’d pictured marrying. My best friend.
But when I needed him most, he abandoned me, leaving me numb and hopeless.
So now, ten years later, when he wants to barge back into my life, he’s a distraction I can’t afford. My only focus is making sure my father’s murderer isn’t released from prison.
Despite no longer being a part of the criminal world, both Dom and my need for vengeance are pulling me back in.
And I might just let them.

Dom
Leonie Castillo.
My sister’s best friend.
She’s infuriating. Intoxicating. Shackling.
And I was meant to be all her firsts. Her only.
But after her father’s murder, a rift formed between us. One we can’t repair.
I can never be more than her shadow, I’ll only hurt her. We can’t be together when she can never uncover the truth.
Because I’ve been lying to her since the night her dad died.

This book has the following tropes:
Best friend's brother
Friends to enemies to lovers
Dual POV
Murder mystery
He falls first

There is nothing I love more than a Mafia Romance. Then add in childhood sweethearts with some enemies to Lovers?? I'm in!! That is exactly what you are getting with this book!

Leonie and Dom are children of two families who have been steeped in familial ties for years. Bound not only in business but also in tragedy. They took what could have been the worst time and made the best of their circumstances.

Leonie and Dom were the two storms that were perfect for each other. I loved the build up in their relationship. The push and pull it took for them to finally see what they could be. What they were for each other.

There was so much in the past that was unsaid and so much to be said for their future and they were going to make sure that it was said and done.

Let's talk about spice 🌶️ baby : 🌶️🌶️🌶️

This beauty has some spice to it!! If you aren't into it, skip through it!!!

If you are into it, get ready. It is some good spice!! You will not walk away disappointed!

I absolutely cannot wait to see where this storyline goes from here!!

I received a complimentary copy via the author. All opinions are my own, honest and voluntary.

This is Evelyne's debut novel, and trust me when I tell you, I LOVED IT! It is up near the top of my favourite reads so far this year.

It has an amazing plot with a huge twist at the end, and the spice.....wow.....amazing *chefs kiss*!

In this lust and angst filled novel, the banter and spice are tangible from the very beginning. The dual POV and the time jumps, from past to present, give an amazing insight to the characters' back story.

The plot starts with two mafia families coming together, the Belovs and the Castillos, to create a blended and dangerous gang. The children grow up together, with Leonie Castillo and Issy Belov becoming best friends, and of course, Issy has a super hot, older brother Dom. The trio became pretty close, but at the age of 16, tradegy strikes and life changes in an instant.
Relationships are strengthened, but others are strained, and it takes 10 years for things to change.
When Dom and Leonie are forced back into each other's lives, everything changes. But is it for better, or for worse?! I'm not going to spoil anything. You just need to read this yourself!

Okay this is definitely a different type of mafia story that I am in love with. Oh my gosh all the drama, all the action, and all of those special scenes. Just perfect. There is a good amount of twist at the end. Literally I didn't expect half of that. Like I thought one twist okay then the second one I was like back it up what's going on with this twist!! All I got to say is there was one character I could not stand halfway through the book because of her entitlement a**. And that was definitely Issy, I don't know why but halfway through the book she got me so irritated because it was like you had to make her happy or she just be a b***h. And it was like God she's not even worth it!!! But this book is worth it. This is the first book I read from this author and I'm definitely going to read the other ones. I think it's the author's debut? If it is they did so good!!!

Oooh this book was dark and delicious and sexy and totally not what I expected!

Dom and Leonie’s relationship was twisted from day one. Yet they were perfectly cut from the same cloth. Both tortured in their own ways over the same death. Izzy drove me to the brink of insanity. I found her incredibly spoiled and completely out of touch with the world around her. Girl needs a strong man to put her in line. I’m looking at you Rocco.

The family drama is DEEP in this one and the twists and turns will keep you guessing for a while.

You can’t miss with this one!

“I didn’t mind being her dirty secret. As long as it was very dirty.” -Dom

I absolutely loved this book! It’s now one of my favorites! The relationship between Leonie and Dom was delicious.. 🫦 there was just the right amount of spice and plot! The story was so interesting, I couldn’t put it down!

Also, I’m someone that gets obsessed with side characters and would kill for a Rocco book 🩶

Definitely read this! You won’t regret it!

This was a nice palate cleanser between fantasies. The book was definitely more plot heavy in the later half of the book, but I enjoyed the time jumps to allow us insight into the characters motivations.

Talk about spice 🥵, drama, childhood friends turned enemies right from the beginning, and a super hot MMC…yes please!!

I finished this book in 1 sitting and could not put it down. Absolutely loved it!!
I loved getting the flashbacks to Leonie and Dom when they were younger and how decisions made in the past brought them to where they are now. The tension between these two is so thick you could cut it with a knife! Sooooo many spicy scenes! Plus a mafia murder mystery on top of the drama to see if Leonie can figure out who was behind her father’s murder from 10 years before. I didn’t fully see the twist coming, but it lead to a great ending. I just wish we got to see more of the epilogue….maybe there’ll be a sequel??!!

╰┈➤ Leonie Castillo
Leonie I love you with every bit of my heart, you can do no wrong honey!!! My girl was eating her way through this book no matter that the circumstance. My baby took no shit from anyone. I felt like a proud mum cheering on from the sidelines the whole way through this book. If anyone wants a book with a strong FMC this is your book guys because my god she took no prisoners this woman. All Hail Queen Leo!!!!!

╰┈➤ Dominic Belov
It’s funny because like me and Dom are actually engaged so like. No but seriously Dom can also do no wrong like these two are purely flawless in my eyes and they can do no absolute wrong ever and if you say they do then you’re lying. Him being an absolute beg for her the whole book was something I didn’t know I ever needed!!!! Get yourself a man that was as obsessed as Dom was because WOOOO girl was this man DOWN for Leo. THE SCENE WHERE HE WAS READING IN LEO’S ROOM WITH GLASSES, i’ve never felt anything like it before. 😁

Overall
I really enjoyed the book, the plot was interesting and was consistent throughout the book, the plot twists were NOT expected at the end can I just say, my jaw was on the FLOOR. I really liked the development between Dom and Leo. However, I really would have liked to have seen more into Dom and Leo’s past and to have delved more into the motive towards why her dad was killed by YOU KNOW WHO (we’ll act like he’s Voldemort 😒😒) ultimately I would have just liked more of this book because it was so good I never wanted it to end 😞😞😞 Thank you Evelyn Sperring for this masterpiece, I had the time of my life reading it!!!! One can cross her fingers and hope this gets made into a series because i need to see issy and a certain someones story ASAP!!!

‘ He could throw me from this slowing car and as long as I was in his arms, pressed up against him, I could deal with the broken bones. ‘

When I tell you I squealed after seeing this line, the line that has been TEASING me. I get it now, Leonie. Just maybe take precautions, like start wearing knee pads or something.

A devastating event that occurred 10 years ago, two people consumed by that fateful night, a rift formed and a secret that could shatter all. It’s a mafia romance with dual POV, best friend’s brother, morally grey, he falls first, murder mystery, revenge and friends / enemies to lovers. Now if I’m being honest, it probably has more tropes than I have listed. Do not worry, of course it has smut. Me read a book without smut? Criminal. 50% plot, 50% smut.

Leonie - To the world, he’s a ruthless mafia heir. To me, he was once everything.
Dominic - I can never be more than her shadow, I’ll only hurt her. We can’t be together when she can never uncover the truth.

You fall deeply into this story without realising. A plot that goes without hitch, twists throughout that had me re thinking everything. I’m not usually a murder mystery fan but this I could get on board with! I can’t explain how well Dom’s secret / the truth was executed, it doesn’t go the way you assume it to, those hints throw you for miles. Moments that break you, make you and those that shatter you.
You would do well to pay close attention to every character and every detail in this story. Take your time, read carefully and let the game of trust commence.

How can I explain to everyone how much I enjoyed it when others are still yet to read it. So I don’t think, I write exactly how I feel. Obsessed. The ending, as always, owns me. That sneaky extended ep, giggled and then sobbed. I need books for every character. I will sell my left toe if I have to.

Side note. Sam, I’m coming for you too. The alter? You want to meet there? No probs, I’ll be the one in white.

CHECK TW'S.

Family above all else

Wow this is Evelyne Sperring’s debut novel and I never would have guessed it! There is spice (ah-mazing), suspense, amazing character development and had me hooked almost instantly.

The book starts by going back and forth between present time and two separate events that happened 10 years earlier. The main mafia families, the Castillos and the Belovs have grown up together and the parents always hoped that they would one day form a true alliance. After a shocking, life changing tragedy strikes the Castillo’s, the Belovs take in their only daughter and heir, Leonie and raise her as their own. The Belovs have a daughter, Issy the same age as Leonie and an older son, Dom. The three of them are basically inseparable until that fateful night when everything changed.

Fast forward 10 years later when Dom walks back into Leonie’s life. After both denying the other for too long they finally give into their urges. But at what cost does their love and revenge come and what lengths will Leonie go to find the answers she so desperately craves.

Full of lust, angst and amazing banter between the characters I was unable to put ALGOT down! With twists and surprises it will have you gripping the pages and flipping through long into the night.

ARC Review- This book started off great between both the FMC and MMC the angst and the friends-to-enemies-to-lovers sort of situation going on. The plot was there but needed more mafia drama. I really enjoyed the first half of the book. The potential of the character development was there. However, towards the middle of the book it began to feel sort of rushed and repetitive. It felt like the plot was there but began to lose direction. The fighting then makeup began happening too constant, where it would knock me out of the flow of things, and have me questioning what I read?
I would feel one way between Dom and Leo finally building their relationship to then something minor happening. I felt like I read the development trying to happen but the transition was missing. From when I started to when I ended it felt like I read two different versions of Dom and Leo that did not seamlessly mesh together.
Is and Leo’s friendship was weird I mean if they are best friends and almost family why the obstacle for Leo and Dom being together? Sort of felt like this was forced for the drama but fell short.
The cut off between the characters after arguing supported the rushed feeling when getting through the book.
Leo also felt like a very contradicting character like are you in the family business or not?

Overall the book was okay could definitely be great!

Oh wow…I loved this book! It made me laugh, it made me cry and pretty much all the things in between at one point or another. I was hooked from beginning to end. The plot was amazing - it was well thought out, well executed, and so very well written. The character development was brilliant - Dom and Leo are just everything; I adored them both right from the get-go. I can totally appreciate a bada** FMC and Leo was this and more! It is refreshing to read a story where the female lead isn't just a helpless damsel that needs the man to save her from everything and anything. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing bad about that, I just love a violent and capable woman! Dom is totally boyfriend goals, and the way he is with Leo just about melted my heart. Oooo and can we talk about the spice. My, oh my, was this book hot and filthy and just pheeeeeew! Made me very hot under the collar while reading!
Whilst graphic violence is not a massive part of this story, like in some mafia romances - there is still enough here to keep you on the edge of your seat. There were also a few surprises along the way that I honestly had not expected and wouldn't have guessed, and I loved that.
10 out of 10 would more certainly recommend. Amazing work from this author, and I can't wait to read more. I'm kinda hoping that the story will continue with a book for Is and Rocco *fingers crossed* ☺️

✨️ARC review✨️ A Lethal Game of Trust by Evelyne Sperring
⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This book sounded phenomenal, but I feel it fell short of its full potential. Don't get me wrong it was still a good read but it needed something more.

Right from the get-go, there was spice and drama and turbulent relationships, which in all honesty stayed pretty tumultuous all the way through.

The storyline was okay, but felt like it was just being prolonged with lots of s3x scenes dotted through it.

I enjoyed the characters. MFC highly independent, Mafia family but suffered a devasting loss and the MMC is again Mafia family, bit of a 🍆 at times but also super romantic.

Friends turned enemies turned friends turned lovers tropes.

Has a HEA but also has a few trigger warnings associated with the book, so make sure to check those before reading.

Another new author for me and I would be more than happy to read more from her.

Thoughts 💭
With an enemies to lovers trope, I always find myself expecting that miscommunication will be at the center of it. I was pleasantly surprised when that wasn’t the case with this book.

As the two heirs to their respective Mafia family names, Leonie and Dom have deeply woven ties to each other. Throughout the periodic time jumps to the past from both POV’s, we get to see what caused these childhood best friends to drift and morph into the enemies they are now.

Romance, spice and relationship building is the main focus for the majority of the book. Towards the end we have a lot of our questions answered, and the Mafia business is very much the center of the plot. It was really interesting to see the shift in characteristics between Leonie and Dom from the beginning to the end of the novel. The murders and ruthlessness made this to be a really enticing read, I wish we got more of the HEA at the end.

-Arc Review -

This book had so much angst and banter between Dom and Leo. Their chemistry was obvious from the start of the book even when it was clear they were trying to stay apart for their own reasons.

This story line is written with flashback chapters that describe past events to help understand what happened from both main character’s pasts. The chapters were well integrated.

The second half of the book was much more content heavy. Leo finally got her fire back and proved that she was the mafia princess that she was always meant to be. With this you got to read how much Dom loved seeing her in this light. He was proud of her and they came to understand each other’s choices.

This book was a prime example of sometimes no amount of time or space can keep two people apart. This book included best-friend’s brother, dual point of view, second chance mafia romance, with possessive mmc and a happily ever after.

I devoured this book! It was spicy, full of angst and lust. I loved that it had a dual POV and also switched timeline. It was pacey and easy to follow with some plot twists thrown in as well which kept you on your toes throughout.

Leonie and Dominic are childhood friends to enemies to lovers. Throw in some forbidden romance as he is her best friend's brother and it truly is the jackpot!

There was a lot of character building between Leo and Dom and it made me fall in love with both of them completely!

Dom is obsessive and domineering over Leonie and I love it. Leonie loves to try and fight it but secretly she loves it too.

“Tell me you don’t want to be my prey.” 😍😍

Anyone up for an adult game of hide and seek 😏😏

I would have liked a bit more of a mafia insight throughout but that didn't stop me enjoying it. There was more towards the end and it wrapped the book up nicely. If there's a sequel I'm in!

Scandalous mafia prince and princess?! Cloaked behind a curtain of betrayal and smut?!

GIRRRRL when I say this this book DELIVERED 👏🏼

Leonie is so real and raw in her emotions, she wasn’t perfect and she knew it, but she was PERFECT for Dom, her childhood best friend who protected her from afar.

The writing was realistic - you were in Leonie’s head, or Dom’s and their choices and thoughts felt logical, like I was listening to someone’s personal thoughts.

I was submerged in a world of lethal mafia games - complicated relationships done so well they were relatable, actions that were complex, yet understandable. That’s what made this book such an enjoyable read! And despite the cruel nature of gangsters, the fluff was the right amount and made me melt more times than I can count.

The smut scenes were H O T. Dom the dominator 🔥 made me a lil jealous that I wasn’t a fictional character for a second x

Stuck on what to read now…

Can’t wait for the next one!!

A Lethal Game of Trust by Evelyne Sperring is a mafia romance that puts the dark in dark romance. It is essential before you dive this book that you verify that you are able to handle the trigger warnings, she does not pull punches. It's kinda why I loved this book!
Dom and Leonie are childhood friends belonging to friendly mob families. As the story progresses we learn just how close the families are. There are so many twists to this I don't want to give too much away. I will say that Dom is a perfect example of a protective male, while we get to watch Leonie grow into a unique individual herself. Perhaps exactly who she would have been in an untouched world.
Sperring holds no punches with this. There is blood, murder, sex and mystery. I absolutely enjoyed every second reading it and was quite struck with a book hangover when it ended. I highly recommend her works in the future.

This was sooooo good. It was pretty much straight into the spice, which I love. The spice was also ticking all the right boxes for me - Dom can definitely get it.

For the first 75% of the book I was feeling that the plot was pretty weak. The characters kept talking about all this mafia stuff that they did, but there wasn't any conviction to it. UNTIL the last bit of the book. The twist had me genuinely shook.

I also appreciate that when the secret the MMC was keeping from the FMC dropped, she didn't go totally apeshit and was actually a normal person. So refreshing.

Devoured this over 2 days - it's a relatively quick read that has perfect amounts of spice and an actually interesting plot. 5 stars.

ARC review:
This book for me wasn’t quite a full 4 stars, but not necessarily a 3 or 3.5 star either, maybe a strong 3.75. This book was a fast and spicy read! It has some of my favorite tropes in it: possessive MMC who’s loved the FMC all his life, jealous MMC, and touch her and die vibes. So Dom instantly had my heart from the very beginning. Almost everything he said and did had me swooning.
There was a plot twist that they had hinted at for the majority of the book so when the truth of that came out, I wasn’t surprised. But the last plot twist, I did not see that one coming.
This book had me staying up late because I could not put it down. It also seems like there may be another book in this series with other characters, let’s keep our fingers crossed on that one!

So much good spice!!!!

"I can spell it out for you with my tongue if you want"

"This was a lethal game of trust for both of us"

*Friends to Enemies to Lovers
*Family Drama
*Bestfriend's Brother
*Secret Relationship
*Plot Twist

The tension and build up for the relationship between Dom and Leonie was so palpable it was seeping off the pages. It was clear from the start that these two were meant to be together, and the time jumps that gave the back story helped cement that even more. The spice was top tier and there were definitely moments that had me blushing (sun lounger on the beach 🥵🫣). The book was missing the mafia aspect I assumed would be there, and there were some leaps that could have had more detail to tie everything together. Overall this was a great dubet novel!!!

This has been one of my favourite so far for a mafia romance. and I absolutely loved reading this story with a strong plot, spice and well developed characters.
The brother's best friend trope is far by one my go tropes in the dark romance genre as it comes with an interesting approach on how the two love interest will meet each other, and how their love one another is starting to blossom.
In this lust, angsty and spiced filled novel, I loved seeing the chemistry between the two, and their banter towards one another. The story is crafted to perfection and really well written showing time loops between the characters in the book, and there is also a plot twist.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a really good read.

The way I devoured this in one sitting! The storyline was beautiful, the steamy scenes were STEAMING!

Leonie is solely focused on avenging her father's death. Holding the man responsible for his actions. It's been ten years. She has changed. She isn't the innocent teenager she once was.

Then you have Dom. Whew! Dom is protective, possessive, caring, and loyal. But rough around the edges. Will he be able to let down his walls and tell the truth to Leonie?

I absolutely loved this story and enjoyed following Leonie and her mission to avenge her father's death. There were some twists I wasn't expecting and I loved that Sperring kept my attention. She kept me guessing and by the end I was ravaging this story!

Some Tropes:
🔫 Touch Her & 💀
🚘 Mutual Pining
🔫 Best Friend’s Brother
🚘 He’s Unobtainable

My Opinion:

Boy oh boy, this book had me in a chokehold. The angst, the drama, the twist at the end… I was here for every single part of it.

There are many books that flop when trying to do time hops in the story. This book was well planned out and accomplished the then, the now, and the future perfectly. The plot was consistent throughout the book and the ending was definitely not expected.

I’m hoping there winds up being a sequel. I need to know what happens between Dom, Issy, and Leo. I am also dying to see who Issy winds up with 👀

I got an ARC copy of this story and I am so glad to have read it. I love a good best-friends-brother trope, and this fit the bill. I did feel like Leonie and Dom had a lot of miscommunication events that hurt emotionally to read, but this book does end with a mostly HEA. I will say I am NOT a fan of Issy. If she knew growing up as a teenager that her brother and best friend clearly both liked each other, it seems absolutely selfish how much she forced them to stay apart for so long. The ending was absolutely not what I expected. I had my theories and things kept pointing the direction I thought but, goodness, Evelyne Sperring did a great job with that ending.

This is my first mafia romance read and it was so good!!! It had my attention from the start to the end. I felt so connected to Dom and Leonie and had some tears in some parts of the book. Also I’ve never read a book with spice this good!!🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ From childhood friends to enemies to lovers, best friend’s brother, touch her and die, and he falls first.. this book is just so good!!!! The only thing is I wish there was more in the epilogue. Not everything was answered so I’m interested to see what that means or why it was intentionally left out. Overall a must read & I need more from Dom and Leonie!!!

let me tell you about this book! It was dark!!! it was DELICIOUS!! and IT WAS SEXY!!! and totally not what I expected. but then again i believe that this was the first mafia trope that i actually got to read in a few days. I would have finished it sooner but life kept getting in the way!

their relationship was twisted from day one but they were perfect for each other!! Both tortured in their own ways over the same traumatic event. Izzy even made me crazy! I found her incredibly spoiled and completely out of touch with the world around her family drama is DEEP in this one and the twists and turns will keep you guessing with every page!
