Before reading this I made up my mind that the fic would be all about Cas (whose conviction for murdering a bunch of small children has just been overturned) and Dean (the sheriff who arrested him) working together to find the real killer.

Yeah, not so much. Instead the first half is about their relationship. Dean quit his job out of shame for arresting the wrong man and Cas is emotionally fragile. Eventually, they become roommates and slowly they fall in luurve. [Why is that I'm a romance reader and yet I can't even type the word "love" without feeling icky?] I really enjoyed all the small moments between them. Like when Dean yells at Cas, "What did I say about using French in the house?" (Or something like that.) If that's a direct quote from the show, I don't remember it, but I can hear Dean saying it.

The second half of the fic does turn into a whodunit with everyone running around trying to solve the crime, including Ellen and Garth as FBI agents.

It's a good read. 3.5-4 stars.

How would you feel if you were responsible for putting an innocent man behind bars for SIX years?

Unfortunately, that's what happened to Dean Winchester when the body of a murdered and mutilated child got uncovered.

While the mystery aspect of the story was engaging, I found myself gravitating more towards the emotional storm between Dean and Cas. There's guilt from both parties, and a depth of so many layers that make these characters the driving force for Exonerated.

So if you're looking for some Destiel fic that is character driven, with a murder mystery thrown into the mix, then give Exonerated a try!

Word of warning: the mystery involves graphic depiction of murdered and mutilated children. You have been warned!

It's not entirely what I was expecting, I thought there'd be more crime solving but the person Cas took the blame for is known from the beginning. Instead of a gritty tale it appeared to be all these two getting to know each other.

Nothing much happened and I didn't feel the sparks, I didn't like when the third person pov suddenly jumped to Sam's perspective... Also while I've watched some Supernatural I'm not that familiar with Cas so couldn't quite relate to his character.

It's a story that updated by chapter over time. I think it would work better read in instalments and didn't flow well enough to be read as a whole.

But that's me, I think true fans of the show will rate it higher.
