UNEXPLAINABLE EVIL When Zain Tamora, the worst mass murderer in Nevada's history, escapes from state custody, it sends shockwaves through the community. Leaving a trail of bodies in his wake, Tamora is a mute killing machine. Special Agent Angela Listz with the Federal Bureau of Investigation is attacked and left for dead by Tamora. When her mentor and legendary special agent Mickey Parsons learns of the attack, he decides he must enter the mouth of madness again and find Tamora before he can kill anyone else. But Tamora is remorseless and brutal. Mickey knows Tamora had the chance to disappear, but instead goes on a killing spree. Concluding Tamora is searching for someone, Mickey is on his trail. And as Tamora's motivations become clearer, Mickey knows one of them will not make it out of this alive. A short novel.
Victor Methos is the Edgar Award nominated bestselling author of over forty novels. He has been a criminal and civil rights lawyer in the Mountain West, conducting over 100 trials, and produces two books a year with his dog Fraiser by his side.
After writing so many excellent books this author has set the bar very high for himself. With this book he doesn't quite clear that bar. I'm not suggesting this is not a good book; it is very good. I'm saying that from VM I expect above and beyond and this didn't make the cut. We learned and liked the type of character Mickey Parsons was in book one, experienced and methodical. Here he takes off half-cocked to the latest crime about an escaped convict after being expressly being forbidden to do so by his boss. Yeah, I know a former partner of his got injured in the crime but I don't buy it; he didn't even take his weapon with him. He's on the hunt for a mass murderer who's described as "evil" without a gun. He even expects to protect the intended victim while in protective custody armed with nothing but Chinese takeout; this guy walk on water or something? Unfortunately, the seen-it-all-before Mickey behaves with the same impulsive behaviour, maybe even irresponsible, as his injured colleague, which is out of character. No wonder they both paid the same price. What also sets this book apart from #1 is there is no explanation of why the killer embarks on mass murder. Book #1 was so well thought out it had me empathising and not feeling any malice towards with the killer as he was clearly ill. This time it's simply evil for the same of evil, there wasn't enough meat on the bones here. Without these issues I'd have rated it 5 stars. Aside from these gripes , if you liked book1 you'll like this one although you may not be as endeared with Person's side kick as much as the sheriff from the previous book. I'd still recommend it and I eagerly await book 3.
Oh how I love Mickey Parsons. I wish there were more books in his series but this ending did wrap up very nicely. It was a short and easy read, finished in a day.
Sophisticated, educated readers deserve an author who is talented enough to produce such a powerful story to understand how to use pronouns correctly. In this case, the use of ‘with he and I’ and ‘funner’ is annoying and unnecessary. There are multiple instances where nominative cars pronouns are used as objects of prepositions. And even spell check on my IPad refuses to recognize ‘funner’as a word. Isn’t this type of thing what editors are supposed to do? Without the grammar mistakes, the review would have earned five stars.
For my taste there were WAY too many loose ends here: how did Tamara turn into a killer? How does he get superhuman strength from sitting alone in a cell for decades? How does a man who never speaks get a cell-phone, let alone use it? They didn’t exist when he was arrested. At what point did Mickey brief the cops about Carrie’s safe-house and whom did he tell? Why is Tamora so specially motivated to kill Carrie? How did Gills know she was still alive if the retired cops never told anybody? If a man has really killed this number of people in such a short time, why is there no 80-person interagency task force? Especially in a city as rich as Vegas. C’mon Victor...
This is a short novel about a vile mass murderer who escapes from prison. Zain Tamora leaves a trail of bodies in his wake; he has no remorse and is brutal. FBI Special Agent Angela Listz has been attacked and left for dead. Special Agent Mickey Parsons takes on the task again to find Tamora before he kills more innocents. Parsons just may become a victim himself. This is a spine tingling story, well written and intoxicating story line. A top story to read.
Suffering from his Mickey continues to teach and tutor up and coming agents as well as keep in touch with old friends. These old friends always seem to be involved in a case that tempts him to help and perhaps find a life companion to share his thoughts of a quieter more sane life style. He encounters a really unusual person who threatens his life as well as the woman he would like to spend his life with. A challenging situation keeps you on edge until the end.
This was another fantastic story by this terrific author. I have really enjoyed reading about these characters, and I wish that this series would have included some of the earlier years of Agent Parsons' life and career. I believe that they would have been interesting, as well as exciting, stories. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
If you are a mystery fan, Victor Methos certainly meets that requirement. He draws the reader in to his story by outlining the personality of the perpetrator! Knowing various individuals across the country, Mickey Parsons finds reasons to help out friends he has made along the way. The characters are woven into the story and one by one come to life.
As with every book that Mr. Methos writes, you are hard put to even stop to eat. Characters are well thought out and suspense is ever present. My only negative comment is that the editor missed a lot of misspelling and omission of words which was interruptive to the flow of content.
Book one was the best and both books were a bit more gruesome than necessary. A lot of unanswered questions in book 2. How did Zain know his wife was still alive? Why would an FBI agent go after a monstrous killer without his gun? IDK.... the second book seemed rushed to me, or just not as well thought out. I do like VM a lot and wii keep reading his books.
Graphic prison descriptions, & possible demonic possession kept me coming back to this page turner. Was endeared to Mickey Parson life story via Victor Methos, Jon Stanton series. The two Parson series keep up the mystery and action until their victorious conclusion. Really liked this book!
Well that was exciting. I kept trying to figure out who this killer was I thought devil too. So real and spot on for real people not gang buster hero type. Thank you Donna Swanstrom
Great characters in this story. Love Mickey! Don’t want to ruin it but the ending was disappointing. I really think the author had a winner with this series, but so far there are only two books. Still a great read if you like crazy killers and smart cops!!!
I like the way Methos writes. Actions have consequences, both good and bad. His books show a marked contrast between good and evil. You are never sure which side wins.
I wish their was closure in this book, like did the dude have a brain tumor that caused him to do what he did. I just hoped for some kind of explanation as to why he went insane.
All of your books are wonderful. I am on my sixth one, and lining up some more in my library. I am intrigued how the story captured me from page one. You can't put it down till the end.
Excellent mystery. Victor can certainly tell a tale. Some really likable characters in this book, except for the bad guy, that just won't die He has him go on quite the killing spree. Never been so happy to read about a death. Good second book.
I'm a huge fan of Victor Methos' novels. I've read many of his and I have never bee n disappointed. Mickey Parsons is another new interesting character in another of his great new series
I felt this one was a bit too fanatical for my taste. In all the other books by him I can almost see the characters and the believable issues they face.
How did the prison warden even know the wife was alive, much less know her alias? This is a huge error. Only the cop, the wife, and the md knew she lived. Ruins a good story.
