Jaq D Hawkins is a British author in the genres of Steampunk, Fantasy and the occult. Her first published book, Understanding Chaos Magic (Capall Bann, 1996), was the first book on chaos magic to bring a general understanding of the subject to a wide audience, and earned her a place among the best known writers on chaos magic.

Her Spirits of the Elements series spread her reputation across a wider spectrum of the magical community and led to speaking engagements in far flung corners of the earth, including the US and Japan as well as the UK. She retired from public speaking in 2006, but started making exceptions on occasion in 2008. She is no longer able to travel to the US however, as they do not accept her British passport due to complications over her actual place of birth.

Of her subsequent books, the most popular is Chaos Monkey, which takes a unique perspective on the subject of magic and how it affects the lives of those who choose to follow a magical path. It personifies magic as The Monkey, a Trickster archetype that sometimes teaches powerful lessons through uncomfortable methods. Those who learn to laugh with The Monkey become stronger as a result.

In 2005 her first Fantasy novel, Dance of the Goblins, was published followed by Demoniac Dance and soon to be joined in 2012 by Power of the Dance.

In Steampunk, Jaq has released The Wake of the Dragon: A Steampunk Adventure and has two more Steampunk titles in progress.

She currently lives in Norwich, UK.

Jaq D. Hawkins’ Elemental Spirits offers a refreshing and accessible approach to exploring the world of elemental magic. Far from venturing into the realm of the fantastical or imposing personal beliefs, Hawkins provides a practical guide that encourages readers to connect deeply with the natural world.

Hawkins masterfully balances knowledge and inspiration, presenting clear explanations of elemental correspondences and energies without overwhelming the reader. The author’s ability to blend traditional wisdom with contemporary understanding creates a harmonious blend that resonates with both seasoned practitioners and newcomers alike.

One of the book’s greatest strengths lies in its emphasis on personal exploration and experimentation. Rather than providing rigid formulas or dogmatic rituals, Hawkins empowers readers to develop their own unique connections with the elements. This approach fosters a sense of ownership and authenticity in one’s magical practice.

Elemental Spirits is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to deepen their relationship with nature and explore the magic inherent in the world around us. Hawkins’ grounded and informative style makes this book a standout in a genre often filled with the esoteric.

Okay, but listen...

This book, this book, this book.

This is a delicious book that checks off all the Magickal boxes. I don't think there is a topic or base this Author didn't cover, and they didn't skim, either.

Elemental Spirits by Jaq D. Hawkins is a full Magickal practice outlined for you. It leaves no stone unturned, no question unasked.

This book gives you not just the foundation to build but the keys to unlock an Animistic practice.

I didn't know what to expect going into it, but page after page I found myself sinking deeper into my chair curious what was going to be discussed next.

Elements, Elementals, and Beings of all kinds are talked about with reverence.

We're even given tips on how to create Elemental Servitors.. YA'LL!

Correspondences of every shape and size help shape the practice and give the reader easy, quick reference points amidst a very thorough, deep book.

This was a delightful read.

I actually wanted more when I was done!

Our world is alive and this book is a bold reminder of that.

A wonderful book not only to learn more about the elements but also about folklore, rituals, spells, divination and correspondences. I simply love it 💖🕯️

A solid overview of spirit work but it does feel a bit like everything is thrown at you very immediately with limited guidance on how to approach it.

Very interesting, super in-depth exploration of elemental entities, as Hawkins understands them. I really wanted to hear the story about their house burning down, but aside from the one mention of the tale, no further explanation.
