Renowned herbalist Amy Blackthorn shows readers how to bring plant spirits into their daily spiritual practice with therapeutic access, subconscious learning, and divining skills that help them understand plant spirits on a deeper level. Blackthorn’s Botanical Magic showed a new generation of witches how scent affects people, whether they understand it or not. In Blackthorn’s Book of Sacred Plant Magic, we travel even deeper into the magical garden of scent. We know that a walk down a summer street can bring back the smell of childhood summers with friends, riding bikes and swimming. Spring breezes carry with them the clean soapy smell of your second-grade teacher. We experience scents not only in the here and now but also filtered through the lens of our past. Using the power of scent, we can create a sense of the sacred in our daily lives. Part reference guide, part recipe book, and part ritual journey, Blackthorn’s Book of Sacred Plant Magic offers readers an in-depth exploration of the vital connection between scents and magical practice. Topics covered
Connecting with Spirits of Plants, Place, and People Expanding your Scent Beyond “Floral” Scent, Memory, and Personal How History Effects Scent Creating Scent Activations
Amy Blackthorn does it again! Every book she writes is a stunner, but this one is really special to me because she discusses the mystical side of plant connection in a deeper way. Myself, I’m not an herbalist. I work with plant spirits, land spirits, and spirits of place that are often tied directly to plants. But my approach is spiritual and energetic, more than practical in a medicinal sense. I love the way this book marries those two perspectives, and improves on practices you might already do by recognizing ways you can elevate what you do.
I also really liked the recipes for oils and the breakdown of each allies magical meanings. This is a great book as a reference even once you finished it.
I recommend this book for people who are looking to better connect with nature in intentional ways and also who want to know the plants that they work with in spiritual ways on a deeper level.
Also sidenote, but I loved the way this book feels, it’s hefty, but not heavy to hold, it’s got a lot of illustrations for each plant, and it’s very easy to leaf through (pun intended!)
This book is wonderful. She teaches you how to connect to your plants and then she takes it to a whole other level. I love that she has the mythology and herbal lore associated with the plants. This is a book that keeps on giving. Add this book to your shelves, along with Blackthorn's Botanical Magic. I feel that Amy is the leading expert on botanicals. I haven't found a source with more knowledge than Amy. I find myself constantly referencing all of her books. (Really, every book of hers is amazing)
'Blackthorn's Book of Sacred Plant Magic: Spells, Rites & Rituals for Living an Aromatic Life' by Amy Blackthorn is an incredibly deep look into the power of scent.
Nerdy fact: Did you know that scent is directly connected to our memories? It's intentional, too. The brain's anatomy itself is the why behind scent and memory being interconnected.
I am a Folk Herbalist, as well as a nerd, so this book was/is a treasure. As are all of Blackthorn's books, to be quite honest.
She leaves no stone, er, leaf unturned.
In fact, I often find myself having a thought or question about something I've read, only to have it answered in the very next sentence, paragraph, or page.
Are you interested in creating wearable scents for any and every mundane and Magickal purpose? This book has you covered.
Does it actually give recipes to EVERY oil under the Sun. Well, no. That's impossible.
However, you are given the information to do so. This book is FULL, FULL of recipes, application methods, and uses.
Are you interested in correspondences, herbal lore, uses, and more on some of your favorite plant allies? She's got you covered.
You are instructed and guided by one of the best to ever touch green Witchery and Herbal Craft.
My favorite paragraph is the final one on page 103. I guess you'll just have to read it to find out. I highlighted tf out of this book. Haha! Be prepared to do so as well.
This is a reference book, a recipe book, a textbook, and a Magickal book.
I kinda love all books. If you've read past reviews, you know this.
What I really love is seeing people SHINE talking about and doing what they love best.
I love feeling the deep respect, wisdom, and knowledge an Author has for their respective Craft while also feeling a certain giddiness; an eagerness to share their Craft with the world.
That's what this book feels like.
All Blackthorn books do.
It feels like you're sitting down for a cup of tea with the warmest and dearest friend..... and learning about all the amazing and awe-inspiring ways botanicals nurture us.
This book will change your daily life and your Magickal practice.
Note: I really love that essential oils are not made out to be the bad guy in this book. They are a controversial topic among us Herbalists and I get it. I do. As a Witch, as someone who is disabled and doesn't always have the time to wait for an infused oil I made, it's helpful for me to use EO's. Everything in moderation.
If you're a fan of Blackthorns Botanical Magic, you should be adding this to your library as well. One could argue this is the sequel to Amy Blackthorns original book. It may not be as thick, but over the years she has only grown in her talent to be able to finesse and condense her years of knowledge into her books in a way that is equally engaging and educating.
Amy's unique voice continues in this volume and she even touched on Cannabis, which I found to be one of my favorite parts since my state has legalized it and I've been wanting to incorporate it into my practice.
As always the stories she decides to impart on her audience through her publications are just as personal as they are enlightening. A great addition to the Amy Blackthorn library and to anyone who wants to include more of what mother nature has to offer in their practice.
This is an excellent introduction to how to incorporate aromatics and oils into ones magical life. I have been learning more about herbs and essential oils for its use in homeopathy and health, so it was wonderful to find a well researched book by a reliable author that looks at the as magical elements of these herbs and aromas as well. Blackthorn does a great amount of research, she goes into detail on how to create and use your own aromatic oils, their magical correspondence, how they interact with other ingredients, etc. This book offers both educational and personal advice, as well as various practices to try, avenues to explore, etc. While Blackthorn focuses on a handful of plants as opposed to a huge encyclopedia, I found her plant entries to be thorough and well researched. A good template for building ones own encyclopedia of herbs, oils, and their uses.
due stelle. No, non m'importa di leggere e rileggere senza fine che l'autrice è nurodivergent e disabled. Genuinamente. Sono fatti suoi e non hanno a che fare con le piante. E "God "He/She/They/It)" ??????? per piacere. Oltre a questo belle ricette.
