A terrific read about the story of Sir Alex Ferguson's first signing at Manchester United and the journey from boyhood to carve out a career as a professional footballer. I am a huge Fergie fan, but it was fascinating to hear the inside stories from someone who breakfasted with Sir Alex and was on the receiving end of the 'infamous hairdryer treatment'. It is a tale of adversity, being dropped by United, then picking up his career at Exeter City under Alan Ball, only to be cut short by a career-ending back injury. However, Alan Tonge then goes on to turn his life around, ending up gaining a PhD in Philosophy.
