This book is a response to Socrates' invitation to 'know thyself'. The journey moves from immediate experience, to the discovery of First Being with the human person as the central figure of inquiry, in order to discover the purpose of human life. This is an important work in the renewal of metaphysics called for by Pope John Paul Ii in Fides et Ratio (1998).A philosophical inquiry into reality in all its dimensions.
When I was 17, I asked a monk at a church camp to recommend some books for me. On a scrap of paper, he wrote "Theology and Sanity by Frank Sheed" and "Retracing Reality by M. D. Philippe". I didn't get around to reading them until I was 24 and had spent two years studying to be a priest. It's good that I waited. This book is very dense. I doubt that I would have understood much without the previous training in philosophy. I will probably reread it throughout my life.
