Losing Control

"I have finished book three and I must say that you have got me totally enthralled in the characters and the world you have created. Thoroughly enjoying the different challenges and perspectives that all the different characters have. Definitely makes me think about my own life and technology in a different way."

The City remains under control, but for how long? In a world with only one City and only a handful of Architects who govern it, control should be easier than ever. But what happens with the few Architects who all want that power exclusively for themselves?

After choosing her participants for the Research Project in Book 1, Joy appeared to be an unshakable leader. But the recent actions from Jack Limp, head of the Education Agency, and Abby Sinclair, head of the Environment Agency, changed everything.

Joy doesn't just have the other members of the Joint Union to contend with, there is also the President, who has become determined to sabotage Joy's master plans. Is he an ally or an agitator? Joy must decide this and ensure he does not destroy everything she has worked towards for decades.

While power struggles happen in the City, there are also different kinds of power struggles happening in the wild. The struggle for survival.

Of all those in the Research Project, Newt is Joy's greatest concern. Will he successfully transition to living in the wild, completely separated from the technology he grew up with in the City? Will he become the good father Joy requires?

Book 3 in the Progress Above All series is an end-to-end thriller, action-packed and full of shocking surprises. In a wrestle for ultimate power and control, what happens when control is the very thing Joy begins to lose?

"Wow I didn’t see that coming! Love the way the story is developing."

Scrambling Amid Chaos

Joy scrambles to adapt as she's losing control and is now completely alone.

She's surrounded by vultures trying to sabotage her on every side out of amusement or because they want ultimate power, control, and technological eternal life. They don't care about anyone but themselves. They don't care about the havoc they cause, or the lives lost as long as they get what they want.

Amidst those in leadership outright scheming to undermine Joy and her plans, others are deciding against agreements because either they are cowards or circumstances have changed. We watch these developments as they turn everything Joy cares about upside down and rip her one true support from her side.

During all this chaos, we learn about Joy's backstory and what shaped her to fight to understand humanity and what is needed for it to thrive. We discover that she's been growing to care over time and has found someone, Alice, who loves her. The feelings are mutual and Joy's need for her is palpable. However, because of everything, they must separate leaving Joy truly alone.

Despite all of this, will Joy be able to summon the strength to figure out how to keep humanity from continuing its descent into technological machines? Can she succeed in helping humanity, even if only a few, make a new beginning? Is there some way for her and Alice even though that looks bleak?

There is so much going on in this dystopian series and I'm invested in traveling along to see how it all plays out. I'm looking forward to the next book in this exciting series, which I highly recommend.

Thank you for the ARC, Mick Mooney, and I'm leaving an honest review.

Losing Control means disorder, and disorder is one of Nature’s known acts. No matter how technologically advanced the City is, we can see here how nature can find its way to perform its act through our characters.

Also, Mick drives us deeper into the depths of the City’s capabilities, the characters, and a glimpse of their histories, hence offering a wider view of understanding. Truly enthralled by the story!

The adrenalin keeps pumping right from the start as you continue this wild ride. Mick Mooney writes in a way where you experience the whole range of emotions through his well thought out characters. Mick also has a way of making you connect and reflect on your own lives and the world we live in whilst being enthralled, totally captivated and immersed in the fictional world he has created.

I thoroughly enjoyed “Losing Control” and eagerly anticipate the next book in this awesome series!
