Yearly, Texas #3

A January Promise

Rate this book
If the Grandma Gang believes Cynthia Martin will participate in their matchmaking...
Why, they have another think coming!

Cynthia Martin lost her husband of many years, and her two grown daughters are beginning their own lives. She's trying to figure out who she is now—post-husband and post-kids. Somehow, she has to find the courage to live again (and maybe learn how to knit while she's at it). However, every matchmaker in Yearly tries to set her up with some eligible bachelor, and Cynthia is at her wit's end. So, she inadvertently starts a rumor about her new neighbor Viktor Vody.

Viktor Vody has custody of his granddaughter, Anja, and he's recently inherited the Yearly, Texas home of a distant relative. Concerned about Anja's bullying at school, Viktor takes the inheritance as a divine sign it's time to make a change, so they move to Texas.

Viktor thought he'd accounted for everything a move might entail. Instead, he discovers he's smitten with Cynthia Martin... even if she was the one who started a salacious rumor linking their two names.

A January Promise is a heartfelt romance, complete with a few tears, and a lot of heart in a small-town, love-after-loss romance. Each book in The Yearly, Texas Romance Series is a standalone romance. They can be read in any order.

I liked this read but didn’t love it.
For me the characters didn’t gel.
I didn’t feel a connection between Cynthia and Victor.
Both widowed, victor several Yeats ago and Cynthia just a year ago so still a bit raw going through firsts alone.
victor arrives in town with his teen granddaughter he is now raising and they become neighbors, again the flow for me just didn’t hit the mark and then it ended without a true ending. For me it lacked an epilogue 6 mth or a yea4 later, so much left unsaid.
Did they become a couple?
Did victor stay after the planned 6 months?
Did Leah have the baby ( complications occurred in the story )
What gift did Jack leave for Cynthia ( her deceased hubby left her a letter to say yes to 3 things and receive a gift that she didn’t go and get )
I was left disappointed not to have conclusions to these unanswered questions.

Sweet Love Story Widow finds New Love in her new neighbor

I picked this book when stuff your Kindle, clean romance was hosted this year. I thought it was a sweet love story between widowed Cynthia and new to town single grandfather Viktor. The banter flowed very well and both MCs were relatable. Both characters were 50 plus.

There wasn't a lot of depth or character development so I deducted a star but I did enjoy reading this book. I would recommend it if you love a sweet, hometown love story ❤️

Cynthia and Viktor have both been widowed for a while. He's mostly focused on making sure his granddaughter feels secure, wanted, and loved in his home. If the rumor will keep the Grandma Gang from trying to matchmake him, and his granddaughter is OK with it, he'll not say anything.
And so a friendship is born.

The characters were relatable, and the dynamics between the heavy and light moments were perfect!

This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from Hidden Gems Books.

An OK romance. Anja, the kid, was sweet and it was great seeing her come out of her shell. I liked that the two MC were older and widowed, but struggled liking either of them. Our MMC's personality is summerized as "I'm widowed and care for my granddaughter" and our FMC's personality is "I'm widowed and I don't like people interfering in my life, so I'll just do sh*t to stir the community pot" which was supposed to be enduring, but was more annoying. This story lacked even a morsal of steam or reason for the couple to love each other or want to be together, and was pretty boring overall. I did at least finish it, and months later still remember it after reading the blurb again. Overall, I didn't care for this story and I'm impressed I finished it. *I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.

sweet story

Recently widowed Cynthia and newly arrived in town Vicktor get tangled in a rumor Cynthia start. She wants the matchmaking Grandma Gang to get off her case about finding a new husband.

How the rumor works out, complicated by Viktor’s granddaughter, makes an interesting and entertaining story.
