I really did like this book but just not as much as the others. The first three consumed me and I could barely put them down whereas this one took me a bit longer to get through.
My main dislikes included the introduction of Morgana’s POV, it broke up the story and I seemed to put the book down every time it came up. In the end it didn’t even seem necessary to the plot of the book. Whilst I am obsessed with Lyr and Rhyan, it seemed like majority of the book was them just going back and forth consoling each other. It got a bit tedious in the end. Rhyans character seemed to change a bit and it was like the author was trying too hard to make him the perfect book boyfriend (ie adding in the unnecessary period scene - kind of to copy how Dorian reacted to Celaena in Throne of Glass). And the 'doin so good” line.
I was about to start reading the excerpt from Warrior and the I saw that it was from Tristan’s POV. I have No interest in that at all so I didn’t bother.
The first few books were so good with just Lyr (And Rhyans story) so I im not a fan of the added POV.
This series will now be forever on my recommended list. You want a high fantasy with high stakes? I gotchu.
Let me just warn you ahead of time, these characters face trials around every single page. There's barely a reprieve when another bad thing happens and you're sitting chewing your nails off because something is about to go down, again. Despite that, I wanted to know more, I wanted to know about the characters' past, what they went through and what's about to happen.
And let me just tell you, I was floored when I learned WHO exactly was behind all this, well not everything, but the master brain if you will.
I'm ready for the next book to just destroy me anyway, so here we go.
Not quite as strong as the first two but still loved loved loved this one! So many things have been revealed and I can't wait to see where this goes!
Knocked down half a point due to some repetitiveness, but also I've just smashed 3 books and a novella out in a couple of weeks. I think I would appreciate the repetitiveness if I hadn't read the previous books for a little while before picking this up.
Will say think this certainly a favourite series of mine and I hope it just continues in the amazing way that it has so far.
I personally don’t think this book was as strong as the previously two in a couple of elements however, those twists and turns! I was hooked and genuinely surprised at some reveals that unfolded in the book.
The second half of the book was significantly stronger than the first and I was completely hooked. I’m excited to see how the rest of the series unfolds.
Now I just have the dreaded wait until the next book…
Not convinced by including multiple POVs but I acknowledge that it might be because the main romance is getting a bit repetitive (constant interruptions, lots of consoling each other during responses to previous trauma). I'm also a bit unhappy that the series isn't completed, so I have to wait for the next one!
speechless, to say the least — was not expecting any of what happened in the last 100 pages, i fear this series has a serious chokehold on me 🫣 honestly terrified because this is book 3 in what will be a 7 book series 😭
