Rate this book
After heavy losses and major setbacks, the team splits up. Spread across the country, everyone is making a new life and rebuilding.

Kris and Alicia build a life for themselves in Gander Acres. John, Jo and the Australians fortify a town in the familiar climate of the Arizona desert in Yuma. Marshall and Renee take over Legion, and secure Atlanta.

Everyone thinks the war is over. Except Victor and the E’Clei. Victor never forgets the atrocities committed and never loses sight of the zombies goals. His friends think he’s crazy, but he continues to fortify Sharonton.

For years, life is pretty good, John has several more children. Marshall builds LEGION into a thriving community, with the help of Renee and her daughters. Gander Acres thrives, growing into a small town filled with love and relative peace.
Then the zombie hordes launch a coordinated attack against all of the major human settlements across the globe.

Only a stroke of luck saves Victor, as the E’Clei renew their offensive and declare all-out war against the humans. Will Victor and Max be able to save the few remaining humans from this massive offensive?

Kirk Allmond: Author, Zombie Expert, Survivalist, Teacher.
Kirk Allmond takes on all aspects of zombies. This isn’t just a vocation, it’s a passion. In 2006, The Zombie Preparedness Initiative was formed as a global project to prepare the world for the inevitable zombie apocalypse. Or, whatever disaster may occur. The Zombie Preparedness Initiative, or ZPI, is unique in that it connects zombie literature, survivalism, and a dash of humor. The site provides a useful service with wit and wisdom.

On the site, there's an article about creating a zombie plan. The article is a thoughtful and thorough discussion of what an ordinary person should learn about being prepared for any emergency or disaster, not just a plan for when the dead walk the earth. Alongside this article are postings about gardening and food preservation, including the all-important topic “How to Make Bacon Post Apocalypse”, weaponry and supplies.

Kirk didn't write all the articles, and gives the majority of the credit to his Advisory Board, a group of writers, survivalists, and zombie enthusiasts who oversee the content of the site. Many ideas are contributed by members of the large community of readers, who also participate in the discussion forums.
Allmond’s novels, the “What Zombies Fear” series are co-authored with Laura Bretz. What Zombies Fear: A Father’s Quest has reached the number one spot on Amazon’s Horror, Paranormal, and Superhero best seller lists.
The series follows Victor Tookes in his quest to keep his son safe. It’s different than most zombie novels in that these zombies are caused by a parasitic alien, which hitchhiked to earth aboard a meteor. These aliens invade the brain of the host, taking control of the body. In the case of a weaker infection, the corpse becomes the traditional Romero style zombie. But in cases of severe infection, the parasites can control more areas of the brain, allowing for zombies that can pass as human. In rare cases of the strongest infection, those zombies are able to access areas of the brain that normal humans did not, giving them heightened abilities.
Their latest novel, Declaration of War was published April, 2013, and reached the number 1 spot on Amazon’s Best Seller list in the Horror category.
There are currently five novels published in the series, and a new novel in progress.

Note: I'm the author.
This is my favorite of the series so far. The writing of this story goes to some of the darker places in Victor's mind, which was fun for me to explore. To those of you who have read this far into the story, I think you will notice yet another elevation of my writing ability. I've always believed this was a great story. Finally, the "technical" side, the actual writing is catching up to the story. I'm still far from Hemmingway, but I'm a much better writer today than I was when I wrote the first book.

Thank you to everyone who has read my books.

It seems to be going so well for the humans in the beginning of this book. We are fastforwarded a few years and all the human settlements have flourished... then it all goes to hell and at the end of the book we don't know who will survive.
I'm hoping that the surviving superhumans will unite again in the next books and crush those damn superzombies once and for all!

The penultimate book to the What Zombies Fear series. Declaration of War is a book which is markedly different from the rest of series' entries. Whereas the previous book, Fracture, destroyed the nakama (a really close non-family group of friends) of Victor Tookes--this sort of stomps on the ashes before scattering them.

The premise of What Zombies Fear is that Victor Tookes, the titular protagonist, is a human being immune to the bites of zombies. Furthermore, he and a small number of other heroes have gained superpowers from it. Dedicating himself to destroying every zombie on planet Earth, Victor Tookes has had a small amount of success in this. He even managed to disable the E'clei Queen Lauren, ultimately leading to her death.

Unfortunately, Victor has become a victim of his own success as the routing of the zombies has convinced the other members of his posse it's time to retire. Victor doesn't help his case by not really having a plan other than "kill zombies" as well as a selfish-sounding goal of doing it for his son (versus everyone else's). By the time the book is through it's first five chapters, it's clear no one wants anything further to do with Victor.

The premise of this was believable but disappointing. I'd been big fans of the supporting cast until this point and watching them become so selfish and stupid in the face of a genocidal race of man-eaters who only appear to be defeated was annoying. It's a bit like watching a car wreck, you can't turn away even though you know it's going to lead to disaster. The supporting cast trade immediate comfort for long-term survival.

Despite this depressing premise, there is much to recommend the novel and a lot of set up for what will undoubtedly be a grand conclusion in the final novel. Declaration of War has more character development than any other volume in the series and while a lot of it is melancholy, other parts give fascinating insights into the cast. We get a sense of why Victor does what he does, how he thinks, and what his major flaws are--particularly in how he fails as a leader due to his self-centeredness.

There's a significant time-skip in this book and I have to say I think it's some of the most touching stuff in the entirety of the series. We get to see the characters experience what sort of lives they hoped to have after the zombies were dealt with, even if it's an illusion. The fact there's a positive lesbian romance (and even marriage) is also something I approve of, being the giant liberal that I am.

In conclusion, I find Declaration of War to be the darkest entry of the franchise yet but not without some appeal. I think any fans of the series will want to purchase this book and it's an essential part of the build-up to the climax. Still, I wish the authors hadn't been quite so brutal to their characters.

I finished this book about 4 days ago and am only now getting the chance to leave my review.

I can honestly say that I think this is my favorite book in the, What Zombies Fear, universe to date. Book 5 shows just how much Allmond and Bretz have matured as writers. There are far less grammatical errors, more character development and the story itself is just so much better developed. Allmond and Bretz seem to have found what works for them and dove into this book with no holds barred. The only disappointment?? Book 6 isn't out yet!! I absolutely cannot wait for the final installment of the Victor Tookes adventures.

By the end of this book you will witness the dissolution of relationships and get a glimpse into what is in store for all of the characters in the future. Will everyone survive? What kind of relationship will Max and Victor have? Will the zombies be conquered once and for all?

Pick up, Declaration of War, to get the answers. You won't be disappointed!!

Our heroes try to cut out small sections of our planet in which to build and carve out a peaceful existence, going so far as to make treaties with zombie leaders to leave each other in peace. Well, that worked for several years until the zombies hit everyone across the country at once. Max, our heroes young son is now a teenager coming into his own power and still trying to stay under the zombie leaders radar. A strange tale indeed, but unusually interesting despite the odd storyline. I thought this was the last book of the series, but such is not the case. This book ends quite suddenly as the all out assault on our survivors is taking place. Guess I'll have to wait to find out how is strange tale continues to develop or comes to an end. Not sure which will come to pass.

This book fast forwards quite a few years and you get a glimpse of how great things were for awhile... And then all hell breaks loose again. This book is quite the roller coaster but I really liked it. And I can't wait for the next installment!!!

I really like all these books, the only reason I put three stars is because it wasn't the way I expected it all to come about. For avid readers these are great quick reads for zombie lovers!!!
