Falling for your boss is dumb. But when he’s a royal? It’s catastrophic.

Lucie
It all started when my boyfriend dumped and fired me on the same day.
Then came a job offer from a French government agency looking for someone with exactly my skill set.
I juggle. Literally.
Enter Max Delaroche: handsome, charming, and way out of my league.
I assist him in chasing down an antique key. No idea why, but that key means a lot to him.
And my vow to never fall for my boss means a lot to me!
Workplace romances don’t end with happily-ever-afters.
They end with me fired and dumped. Again.

Max
I’m the “spare” — second in line, second best.
But when my country’s future depends on recovering a long-lost royal key, failure isn’t an option.
Lucie Laborde is a distraction I can’t afford.
Every stolen glance pulls me further off course.
Every forbidden kiss feels like a countdown to disaster.
The mission must come first.
No matter how desirable she is, Lucie doesn’t belong in my world.
And yet… I don’t know if I can walk away.

The Boss Prince is the first book in the utterly addictive Montevor Royals saga. This fun and spicy royal romance can also be enjoyed as a standalone novel.

The Boss Prince is the first book in It’s Raining Royals series by Alix Nichols. This is the first book I have read from Alix Nichols, so I really didn’t know what to expect going in- but the premise sounded fun, so I grabbed a copy and followed along.
This is a very light-hearted romantic comedy- with a just a drop of the paranormal- which made for a quick, easy, and fun read.
I did enjoyed the fact that Ms. Nichols created a whole unknown ‘country’ in vivid detail. Right down to royalty, customs, and lore- the story was well developed. The characters had also been well crafted- though there were some aspects I would have liked to explore further, but perhaps more detail will come in future books.
Looking forward to seeing what Sasha and Arnaud get up to in Book #2…

Thank you, Alix Nichols!

Ms. Nichols books are very interesting for me to read as it is a French perspective which helps broaden my horizons. It would be very interesting being a prince like Max, especially of a hidden country that someone was trying to take over. I loved Ms. Nichols humor in the naming of some of places and workforce in this book. I was glad to see that Lucie was smart enough to recognize some of the nonsensical talking at meetings. Once again, I loved Ms. Nichols sense of humor. I loved how Lucie was outspoken but loyal to a fault. Max was so handsome and attracted to Lucie. There were a few exciting scenes. I encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

I loved the Boss Prince! I can't wait to see what else comes from the series. Alix Nichols definitely hasn't lost her touch for rom-coms! Great characters, and a unique approach to royalty books. I can't wait to see how the overall series arc is concluded.

Alix Nichols has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Lucie and Max. Max is a prince and his mother Theodor is the crown prince of Mount Evor. The royal family has a problem that they need to find the answer to. The problem is an authenticated addendum unearthed by Kurt Ozzi. It is the sunset clause. The sunset clause means that Italy and Franc are entitled to split and annex Mount Evor. Theodor and Max's mother Felicia is the Oracle and she has a revelation. She has seen where the document is but there is a problem getting it. It is in a vault that needs nine keys to open. Over the years the keys have been lost or stolen. Felicia has found the woman that is the key to the first key and it is up to Max to get her to find it. Lucie was working for her boyfriend, Jerome when she stood up for someone in the office, and she was fired. Jerome also broke up with her. Now she needs a new job. She sees an ad in the paper and it list all her skills but she thinks it is a joke. She ends up calling and gets an interview. She gets the job and it is not like any job she has ever had. It is only for a month. Max calls her into his office and tells her that he needs her to work on a special project with him. As they work together, she starts to have feelings for Max. Max has feelings for her also but he tries to keep them down. Max can't tell Lucie the truth about what they are doing just yet but as each clue results in no key, he thinks maybe he should. At one point, they are at a museum and they hide overnight so that they can get a look at the fan and put it back. When they get the fan, Lucie sees something that she knows about. They go and talk to her mother and asks if she thought they still had the fan. Her mother said no and if it was the one she thought it was, it had been sold years ago. Lucie asked if they could find the collector's name on the computer, no. Her mother said it was on the old computer. “I never managed to recover the data after it crashed.” She remembered the computer giving up the ghost, but it was the first time she heard of lost data.“What? We’re missing years of records?” “No, sweetie,” she says. “Gran didn’t trust computers. She kept her own books of pen and paper.” “The ledgers!” Mom nods. “And we have the receipts, of course.” “Great!” I head to the bookcase with all our financial and administrative documents. Mom and Max follow. I turn to Mom. “Would you point me in the right direction?” After they look at all the boxes, Lucie's mother said that she is missing two years of boxes. “How? What happened.” “Nothing irreparable.” “Mom! Explain.” “Gran must’ve kept those boxes in her little office upstairs. Violette”— she glances at Max—“ that’s my sister, must’ve transferred them to her attic with a bunch of other stuff when we were clearing out Gran’s office.” “OK,” I say. “I’ll give her a call and see if we can drop by.” We say our goodbyes and head to the car. It is a little later in the afternoon when they get to Lucie's aunt's house. They end up staying the night with her aunt and uncle. The next morning they go through the boxes her aunt had and find the receipt they needed. Max calls someone and in a few minutes, he gets the address of the person who bought the fan. They decide to go and see this person. As Lucie and Max leave her aunt's house, Max gets a message from Anders, Gray SUV on ur left. He thinks that Ozzi has someone following him to keep him from finding the key. Things get a little crazy on the drive back to Lyon. On the way back to Lyon, Max comes up with a plan to lose the tail. Things don't work out the way he planned at first until Lucie takes over losing their tail. When they get to the collector they are there to see, they are told that the fan is not there. It is in a museum. They go to the museum and it is almost closing time. They can't do what they need to do, so they decide to hide overnight and hope that they are not caught While in the supply closet, they end up having sex. When they get a chance to work on the fan, it is a disappointment. The key is not in the fan. They take the trail back to Paris and when she gets off, she gets a call from Jerome. It is to tell her that he now has proof of “Natasha’s embezzling the company funds.” She tells him that she doesn't believe him. He tells her that he will send her the proof. He tells her that Natasha is not going to fight it. She comes back that some people can't afford a lawyer. They talk a few more minutes and then he tells her that he is glad he did what he did in firing her. He goes on to say that he wants her back. She lets him know that it is not going to happen. She doesn't know what will happen with Max but she wants to find out. Lucie is in a staff meeting at work and she has not seen or heard from Max in a few days. He slips into the meeting and after, he asks "Got a minute. Before she can say anything about him being gone, he tells her he was abroad. They end up talking about the fan and this is when Lucie remembers seeing the letters on the fan. She tells Max about it and they think that her grandmother repaired the fan at some point. She tells him that she would call her mom. When she called her mom and asked about the key, she is told that it was given to her father. Now Lucie doesn't speak to her father much since he left her and her mom. She ends up calling her father and finds out that he gave the key to an ex-girlfriend. The girlfriend is the one for who her father left her mother for. Max gets the girlfriend's address and they go to the address. When they get there, Max tells Lucie that he thinks it is best if she stayed in the car while he talked to the girlfriend. Max tells her how he intends to get the key if she still has it. She feels a little jealous about his plan but doesn't feel like she has the right to say anything about it. Max gets the key and just as he gets back to the car, Anders calls him and tells him that he has been found. Anders tells him that there are two cars this time and he has come up with a plan to fool them. Lucie and Max find themselves in trouble after they lose the SUV. They are lost and stop to ask for directions but end up gett held up until Max gives the head guy a phone # to call. While all the guys are out after tieing them up to chairs, Max tells Lucie that he has something in the back of his pants that he needs. Once he does what he needs to do, they just sit back and wait. After the SWAT team shows up and takes care of the bad guys, Lucie finds out that Max is not just her boss but also a prince. They are on their way to Mount Evor and she is still trying to wrap her head around the things she has found out. Lucie and Max are together in his apartment and things are going well for them. They are sleeping together and getting along well together. She has been in Mount Evor for going on two weeks when there is a ball. Max tells her that it has been set up for a while and he will not be able to dance with her at all. Lucie has danced with Theo and he has apologized for the way he has treated her. She says something that upsets Theo and he leaves. She ends up dancing with someone else but she is always looking for Max. She is sitting down and has a fan when she sees Max talking with a woman. She thinks back to what she told him about the fan and the way a lady can talk with it. She does one thing with the fan and hopes that Max can understand what she is telling him. When he turns away from her and starts talking to the woman again, she runs from the ballroom. Max catches up to her and asks Where are you going?” smile. “To my room. I mean, to your apartments.” “Are you all right? Something you ate?” She tells him that she is fine. He said that he needed to get back to the ball and she said go. It was time for her to get back to her life. “You mean back to Paris? To MINDFUCH?” “Are you still on its staff?” I ask. “Most Mount Evor royals are, in one capacity or another.” “Then I’m not going back there,” I declare. “I’ll return to Lyon and work for my Mom until I find a new job.” “Why would you quit MINDFUCH?” She tells him that she made a promise that she would not ever again date her boss of her again. She said that if he stayed, she was quitting. he said to her " it sounds like you are keen on dating me if you plan on quitting your job. I just wonder why... She remains quiet. “Why, Lucie?” he asks again. With a nonchalant shrug, I admit, “Because I’m in love with you.”

Will Max return Lucie's feelings? If so will things work out for them?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

Oh, I think this is the first 'normal' romance book I have read by the author (I loved the Keepers of Xereill series!!) so when the opportunity came to get my greedy hands on this one I (of course) didn't think twice! :D

Worldbuilding:
Well... it's a made-up country, in the middle of a real country and everyone but the public (and the media) knows about it? Yeah, that pretty much sums it up :)
We got all the details pretty early on without it being dumped on us all in one go, which I always appreciate :D Scenes and environments were well detailed and clear, even when they got chased was I able to keep up without any problem.

Character development:
I liked Lucie, a lot :D She was a no-nonsense kind of woman and knew what she wanted and didn't want. When she saw the weird job ad, she shrugged it off. When she went to the weirdest job interview ever, she shrugged it off. Why? Because it was a lot of money and she needed it :)
But that didn't mean she didn't catch on that things are off about the company, or her boss, Max. She had a good head on her shoulders and knew her right from wrong. She knew how to have fun and to be honest, what's more important than that? :D
Max was a fun, car-loving prince, posing as Lucie's boss and I can't really say anything negative about him. They both got into the weirdest situations, but it was all fun (and hot... definitely hot!).
They felt real and believable and were fleshed out enough and I hope we get to read about them some more in the next instalments!.

Pacing and flow:
Pacing was very well, given that there was a whole lot of conversation going on, the author managed to keep it moving at a steady pace while still letting the story unfold naturally. Though of course, I have to say that some parts could have been stretched a bit more for the story (and overall feel) but it didn't feel rushed.

The book:
The book was well written with no (noticeable) errors. There was sex described (if that is important to you). I would give it a steam level of 2/5.
I kinda have no idea how many pages the book was, but it was spread over 24 chapters with both Lucie's and Max's points of view.

Final thoughts:
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and all in all I thought it was a fun and entertaining read, though many (many) things are to be taken very (very) lightly :D It was part of the charm and had me facepalming several times haha.
If you need a relaxing and funny romance story, pick this one up!

Can Lucie and Max save his mysterious little country? Romantic, funny and steamy…
A new series aptly titled, “It’s Raining Royals” by Ms. Nichols. There are nine keys needed to unlock the famous impenetrable vault. The race is on. Why must they unlock the vault? What will Max and his family lose if they can’t find the keys in time? Who is trying to stop them? Their Oracle is none other than Max’s mother and she has had a revelation which leads 32yo Max to 26yo Lucie, their Key to the first Key. Lucie just got fired and broke up with her last boyfriend/boss so she’s determined not to repeat that mistake. But then she meets Max, her new boss. Oh well. Good intentions count. Right?
There is intrigue, humor, passion and lots of fun in this first book. Totally enjoyed the tour through France! Max is so naïve in some ways it makes him adorable. Lucie is clever and intelligent. If this first book is any example, this series of rom-coms will prove to be a winner. This book is a standalone with the key to the vault an ongoing story arc, I believe. There are nine keys! If you like humor and mystery with your sizzle, read this story. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book. Can’t wait for the rest…

This is the first book that I have read by this author but Alix Nichols will be added to my preferred authors list. Her writing is entertaining, witty and the perfect antidote for recovering from 2020. Through her descriptive narration, I could picture the in chase scene through the back streets of Lyon and the beautiful principality of Evor. I loved Max and Lucie and their romantic journey to their HEA ending. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

I loved this book that was a true joy to read and a wonderful start to "It's Raining Royals" series by gifted author Alix Nichols with characters you want to know more about and a page-turning story that included humor, suspense and steamy romance. I enjoyed the instant attraction and off-the-charts chemistry between Lucie Laborde who lands a government job in Paris and Max Delaroche who is actually a prince from Mount Evor. If you enjoy well-crafted, laugh-out-loud funny and thrilling books, you will love "The Boss Prince". I can hardly wait to see what happens next in this must-read series. This was a great story in a new series by Alix Nichols. I am looking forward to more in the series.

Max is a Prince of Mount Evor which is a hidden principality. The kingdom is at risk to being broken up and absorbed by France and Italy. There is a chance that they can stop it but the family has to find the keys to open a vault. Max is given the mission to find the Key to the Key. Lucie has lost her job and needs to find another one. A job falls into her lap and she is confused at first why she was hired. Max and Lucie begin searching for a fan that her mother has in her fan shop. Will they be able to find the key?

The secret principality of Mount Evor is under threat from a secret clause in its treaty with France. The principality will be dismantled unless the the royal family can access the correct treaty and prove the clause is a fake. Prince Maximilian is tasked with finding the first key. He needs Lucie Laborde to help him find a key hidden in a fan. Can they track the fan down and what is going to happen between them?

The first in a brand-new series 'It's Raining Royals' by Ms. Nichols.

If you want a laugh-out-loud, adventurous romantic romp then this is the perfect book for you!
It has a little bit of everything: the obvious from the title prince, a spunky heroine, vivid and stunning scenery, a scavenger hunt, prerequisite bad guys, chase scenes and action, mystery, intrigue, and the most oddly named company ever--kind of wonder if it's a bit of tongue in cheek. Throw in the romance and you've got the perfect mix.

I blazed through it in just a couple days, even with fourth of July obligations. It was a bit of a departure for the author from other romances she's written but in all the best ways. I am eagerly awaiting the next segment to the story.

I received an ARC of this story in exchange for my honest review.

A prophecy, an oracle, a prince, and a key make this action-romance most enjoyable. Max Delaroche is tasked with overseeing the activities of Lucie Laborde as her boss, not that he is actually allowed to let her know what she is supposed to be doing or why. Their quest leads them across the country and down dark alleys, with an anonymous bunch of thugs chasing them. Fortunately, Max has the background and training to deal with most of the fallout, but it takes Lucie's particular brand of street smarts and sense of humor to get them where they need to be. The plot is totally unbelievable but highly entertaining. I received a copy of this romance as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Oh my gosh! That was just so much fun. Lucie is sweet and perhaps a bit naïve, but she’s smart and not quite so easily fooled as the rulers of Mount Evor might prefer. Max is a cocky bugger, yet there’s something so irresistibly charming about him. I’m not surprised that Lucie fell for him since I did too during their mad dash to find and retrieve the missing key. I’m intrigued by the premise of the series and already I’m itching to get my hands on more of the story. How will the Evorian royals save their principality and will they manage it in time?

What a start to a new series. It involves the Royals from a hidden country in Europe with a major problem. Thus begins the story and series as the Royals race to find the keys. Basically this story begins the treasure hunt but in a way that was very entertaining and made me laugh. Our main characters are both funny and a but snarky and fun together. Although Lucie is not quite sure this is all not just a hoax. Just a blast to read.

The Boss Prince begins a new series about a secret country headed by a secret nobility headed toward ruin unless all the missing keys are found. Author Alex Nichols’ plot leads readers on a treasure hunt, filled with danger, humor, excitement and lust. While not exactly a cliffhanger (certain strings are neatly tied) there are more keys therefore more stories to come. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book. Most highly recommend.

Delicious fun. Certainly a bit preposterous, but sometimes preposterously delicious fun is just what the doctor ordered. Lucie has vowed to never again date her boss, so when she finds herself swept away by her new supervisor at her out-of-the-blue miraculous new job, she has to choose between common sense and trusting herself and Max. But who would have guessed that doing so would lead to breaking and entering, dangerous car chases, being hog-tied in a basement, and mind-blowing hanky-panky in a closet?! THE BOSS PRINCE is subtitled It's Raining Royals #1, so we know they're more romantic antics in the pipeline. I can't wait!

Did you know there is a principality in Europe named Mount Evor? Of course not, because this romance is pure fantasy! From start to finish Lucie and her boss, Prince Max delve are thrust into a zany key-finding journey filled with mayhem in an attempt to save the municipality. I loved the author’s imaginative naming of the bogus organization for which Lucie is hired, as well as other hilarious names. This is a light, quick moving novel I recommend for your enjoyment. Lucie, stuck for cash interviews for a some what strange job but the money is over the top good. Max her employer loves his cars amongst other things! The story is a tongue in cheek fun to read tale as they have some what of an adventure to find one of the nine missing keys to unlock the vault and in turn save the small mysterious country from falling into the wrong hands. Very enjoyable and I’m happy to leave my honest voluntarily review. A very light hearted story.

Alix Nichols has once again delivered another fantastic book. This story is all fiction, not even the locale exists and that is what makes it perfect. Why? Because it has given this author free range to develop the environment, the characters and the plot that takes the reader to something new and exciting page after page. Add in Nichols sense of humor and this becomes a "can't put down" read. I definitely recommend this book and this author. Just a terrific reading experience.

Starting the Search for the Key . . .

Maximilian Valois-Montevor ("Max") will be needing the help of Lucie Laborde to follow the prophecy and to hunt for the first piece to saving his country. They must get a critical document that is sealed in the vault they can’t open. But his mother is an Oracle and received a vision that Max was called to fulfill this part. A maiden and the prince have to find the fan where the key for the vault was hidden inside it. His family is to hire Lucie to help him find this first piece to the puzzle.

Lucie actually didn’t think she would get hired for this new position. But they had her sign the multiple-page agreement. She can’t figure why they hired her, and perhaps were not telling her quite everything. And she has no idea he’s a Prince. Max and Lucie begin searching for a fan that her mother has in her fan shop. Lucie’s family is familiar with fans and her grandmother’s initials E. Y. on fans she made or repaired would indicate she may have restored the fan they are looking for and may have found the key. They need to check with Lucie’s mom and see if she remembers an antique key. It’s a complicated hunt but it gives Lucie and Max time together and they begin to feel a stronger attraction. Will her mom remember the key? Can they complete their mission?

This is only first step in the mystery and there is more to come, so stick with this exciting series. There is so much at stake and they have to find the real papers in the vault since their archenemy, Kurt Ozzi, has convinced a high-level international expert panel that the document he claims to have found is authentic. But it is actually a fake he drew up and will tear their country apart if it is believed.

Max is a prince and his mother is their oracle in this mystery. Lucie is hired, as foreseen, and she helps Max go after the object in question, igniting a romance. The characters and storyline are well done, with plenty of great backstories and drama, along with fun situations and romance. Really enjoyed the people and places involved and can not wait for more of this group.

Max's royal background is a secret to the majority of the world. Only those who need to know, really know. And when he tries to play off repairing his "beetle" (note: it's actually a bugatti) to Lucie's family, his awkwardness truly shines through. A search for the missing keys to the kingdon, a revelation for the emotional growth of a playboy and a heartfelt romance.

Amazing! I loved how funny as well as romantic this book is! There's blunders and action and romance galore! I highly recommend this book and can't wait to see what happens next! I voluntarily received and read an ARC for an honest review.

A funny and steamy romantic comedy full of action, pranks and love. Lucie’s new boss and work is a little strange but she will do the best she can while avoiding to kiss her handsome boss. Will she fail in bonding with him? Secrets will keep them apart o bring them together.
