This is book in two in this brilliant series.

This is Parker and Willows story. This author certainly knows how to mess with your head. So many times I was found mumbling at my kindle as I found myself feeling what these characters felt. Have I mentioned how hot Parker is?

1-click this for a great emotional read. Be warned that tissues will be needed for the ending!!!

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis:

Willow works at a business owned by her deceased mother’s family even though she doesn’t seem to be liked much by that family. She is also dating, fellow employee, Duncan until she finds him in bed with another woman. She stays with her father and sister for a couple weeks, but decides to leave town to start a new life. She hits the road on a Greyhound bus instead of her in her new Audi.

She ends up in Jackson Lake, Texas where the owner of the diner, Sharon, convinces her to stay. Duncan finds Willow, but Sharon’s foster son, Parker saves Willow. Parker’s bad attitude gets in the way of their obvious attraction to one another.

Review:

The story is well paced and moves along nicely, but the timeline of the story is disjointed and left me confused and flipping pages to piece together the timing. Events are referenced as if they’d occurred in the past, but the stated passage of time would not have allowed for the event to have occurred yet given the prologue. Those disconnects impacted my experience reading this book. I found the addition of plot points that weren’t pursued to be a source of frustration. How could one not investigate the source of a note left under his pillow to find out who left it there and why?

The main characters are somewhat developed but needed something more. I struggled with the dichotomy of the characterization of Sharon and Parker. My first impression of Sharon was of a sweet, older woman who lived by the axiom, “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”, however , she seems shrewish in almost every interaction with her foster/adopted son, Parker. Although no character or person is all good or all bad, some characters' behavior and responses were just too different than how the character was presented to the reader. Perhaps the attempt to show conflicting feelings or attributes was just overdone for me. I found the four or five names thrown into the tale—as if they are secondary characters—to be an unnecessary distraction; I don’t need to know the bartender’s name if the only thing she adds to the story is that she served someone a beer. I also struggled with small disconnects or oddities in physical descriptions of characters. I was surprised by the number if characters with green eyes and that Rebecca is a skin-and-bones drug addict as remembered by Parker but described as eye candy by Duncan. The characters’ backstory, conflict and angst are partially developed, but a bit overplayed for me given the limited knowledge presented. Perhaps as the series progresses, all will become clear.

I like the premise for the story: leave town to start over and find a happy, simpler life in a small town, however, the writing and the story disconnects in this series starter impacted my enjoyment of the book.

“Taking Flight” by Nicky Jayne
2 out of 5 stars

Can a person be so broken that they are beyond repair? Can someone be so lost that they can’t be found? Those are just some of the questions Jayne attempts to answer in “Taking Flight”.

We are back in the world of Riley and Tanner, three years after their book ended. They are now in Texas (although the book is never really clear on how they ended up there) and life has been good to them. It’s great to catch back up with them and see that their happiness is solid.

In this installment of the series the focus shifts to Parker, Tanner’s best friend, and a young woman named Willow. Parker has experienced tragedy and feels beyond damaged. I wanted to feel his pain but I just couldn’t. There isn’t enough character development and back story for me to fully understand where he is coming from. Instead, he comes off sullen and very much an ass. He has obviously been defined by his past but the build up and explanation just aren’t there to justify is surly actions.

Willow is naïve and I had a hard time rooting for her. She has allowed others to direct her life and struggles to find her independence. It’s quite obvious that her fiancé is a selfish loser and yet she continues to mourn a relationship that she is much better off without. I wanted to like her but she is lacking the inner core of strength and backbone that Riley possesses. As a character, I just felt like she never really found her footing.

Together, Parker and Willow spark physically for a brief moment and then they fizzle out. There wasn’t enough of a connection there for me to really sink my teeth into and invest in. I wanted a lot more interaction between the two of them.

There is a side story with Willow’s ex, Duncan, which makes no sense. I think it is supposed to be mysterious but it seems out of place and confusing. Perhaps this will be fleshed out more in subsequent books but here it just doesn’t work.

Overall, I wasn’t as impressed with the main characters in this book. They didn’t seem as developed as Riley and Tanner. I had a hard time staying focused on the book and it was a struggle to finish it. Add to that a very shocking twist at the end that feels completely unnecessary and does nothing to further the story and I’m not sure I can recommend it. If you liked “Footprints” you might be better off to stop with that one and pass this one by.

This book is the follow up to Nicky's release Footprints which my favorite book so far by her. The story opens with Tanner and Riley's wedding and a bigger introduction to Parker, Tanner's best friend. The story then flashes back months to tells us more about what's got Parker all tangled up in knots........Willow.

Taking Flight is Parker and Willow's story and what a story it is. This book will make you want to shake the characters, push them together and at times pull them apart. Give me a troubled alpha male with attitude and I am a happy girl. Throw in the fact that he is super hot and actually has a softer side and I am hooked.

Willow is reeling from the sudden breakup from her fiance' and ends up in a small town in Texas. What she finds there is a sense of peace and an infuriating Parker Davis.

The chemistry is there but Willow is just not open to letting anyone in, while Parker can't seem to let it go. Watching these two is like watching a ping pong match. The back and forth of emotion pulls you in begging for a resolution.

Now as I have come to expect from this author there is always a twist, an unexpected twist that will send you gasping, crying or even threaten you to harm your kindle or nook. So I was waiting, enjoying all things Parker, Willow, Tanner and Riley and just when I thought I was in the clear, she got me.

Another well done story, I will definitely be awaiting the release of Grounded to see what's next for these characters I have grown to love.

Wow!
Where do I start???

This is another stellar book from Nicky. A beautifully written tale of love, friendship & family with a little sadness, laughter & feistiness thrown in too.

We get to see more of the stunningly sassy Riley, & the gorgeous alpha Tanner from Footprints (Deception Series book 1). Their journey has had it's ups & downs but there is no denying the love they have for each other.

We get to meet the deep & brooding Parker with his mysterious ways although I feel there may be so much more to this man than we first think.

We also get to meet Willow who is timid & shy yet all out ballsy at the same time. I truly admire her for all she has gone through.

Not to forget the 3year old who will hold your heart in the palm of her hands, Angel. She is such a happy, carefree child, you can't help but fall in love with her, she will have you giggling with her innocent ways.

The secondary characters Sharon & Bob are like the town mum & dad. Welcoming faces old & new in the same friendly, loving manner. However, do not let that womans loving ways fool you, she. IS. NO. PUSHOVER!

There is so much more I want to say but keeping this spoiler free is harder than ever! So I will end by saying Nicky Jayne I both love & hate you Mrs!!!

That's all I'm saying but the book is amazing and pulls at the heart, you will not be disappointed.

Having read Nicky Jayne's books  before I was stoked to be able to both beta read and read for review team.  I was so touched by Nicky's dedication ♥ THANK YOU NICKY♡♥

We start off the wedding of Tanner and Riley , a beautiful ceremony♥

Parker their friend is heavy hearted and yes its got to do with a woman. Willow is the thorn in his side.

Rewind mode to 3 months prior to the wedding. ...

Willow is planning her wedding to Duncan but after his betrayal (he's a real ass wipe) she feels the need to leave town and heads towards Lake Jackson in Texts . After an unfortunate incident Willow is nursed back to health by Sharon♥ I must admit breakfast at Sharon's sounds like fun ,good food ,good company and the love between Sharon and Bob is endearing you can just feel it !♥

At this point I'm ready to bash Willow!  Hell girl Lake Jackson is the best place for you ,the people are awesome and its sounds like a little piece of heaven , a perfect place fir a fresh start!

Parker has a major chip on his shoulder but Willow seems to catch his eye and so much more !

Duncan is such a douche ! I really don't like this guy and Willow is better off without him! Well he finds her and tries to "win" her back with a threatening and crappy attitude =[ the fear he puts into her causes a panic attack and not only is Parker there to help her but kick some Duncan butt as well! Williw is back at Sharon's where she belongs ! =]

So we follow the roller coaster of Parker , Sharon , Bob, Tanner, Riley, Angel and Willow.

The ending is a major snot fest thst had me sobbing buckets! Why couldn't Duncan be splattered all over the grid of a truck !?  My heart just aches for Riley's loved ones but I don't want to divulge to much and spoil it  .....

Parker and Willow's pasts have joined forces and its going to be interesting to see how it all pans out. I must just say that Willow  is better off without Duncan and I can't remember when last a villainous character got under my skin the way he did ! He's a nasty piece of work=|

Until then I'll have to keep myself "Grounded"

This book had me face just about every emotion possible. I laughed, cried, cheered, and hated. this is book 2 in the series Book 1 is Footprints. Book 2 creates an emotional connection to Riley and Tanned. It also introduces you to Parker, Willow, and Duncan. this is a must read book. Nicky Jayne is an author that you will want to read everything written..definitely keep your eye on her, because she is on her way to the top.

LOVED this book. This story has a lot of character building. It seems to be setting up book 3, but that is a good thing. Parker and Willow have BOTH been hurt, and if Nicky Jayne had them as a couple right of way. it would be insincere. This book had me laugh, cry, sigh, and scream. You will definitely be on a rollercoaster. This is a book that shows the true heart of the author. Ms. Jayne is not afraid to take the hard way. Read this book and you will fall in love with her too. if you have not read book 1 it is called Footprints

Willow is a woman in love and couldn't be happier in life. All of that comes crashing down, however, when she walks in on her fiancé cheating on her. Hurt and embarrassed beyond belief, she quickly leaves town and finds herself in Lake Jackson, Texas – a place that will take her completely by surprise.

Parker is someone who never has to want for anything. He has the money to do what he wants, when he wants, but even that is not enough to make him happy. Often bitter and angry, no one can really make him feel – until he sees her. He is drawn to Willow and he’s not sure why. Confused, he often lashes out at her, pushing her away. Will the two be able to find common ground together, or will their differences be enough to drive a permanent wedge between them?

Willow was a sweet girl that drove me batty at times. She spent a lot of time in her head and that made me feel a bit disconnected occasionally as it seemed to slow down the pacing of the story.
Parker was a bit more complex. This novel is a part of a series and this was Willow’s story. I’m curious to see where Parker’s story is taken next as I want more of a look into the easily angered, emotionally scarred character that I saw here. There were times that I wanted to reach into the story and smack him for some of the things that he did and said, but then there were times that I just wanted to hug him. Hey, I’m allowed to change my mind.

The side characters were some of my favorites, especially Angel, Riley and Tanner’s daughter. She was just plain adorable and there’s a scene in which she finger paints with her ice cream in a place that she really shouldn't. It brought a smile to my face. I freaking love that child.

Overall, I would rate this book 3.5 stars. Taking Flight was a quick, easy read that I enjoyed. There were some things that drove me a little crazy with the pacing as I felt that we were given just a bit too much insight at times, but that could just be me.

Nicky Jayne has done it again. I have been a huge fan of her ever since I read Footprints. So when I had the chance to beta read for Taking Flight, there was no way I would turn it down. And she did not disappoint. I'm so grateful to be able to work closely with such an amazing author and friend. If I could rate Taking Flight 10 Stars I would!

Taking Flight centers around Willow and Parker with appearances of Riley and Tanner from Footprints. After finding her fiance in bed with another woman, she leaves everything behind and starts a new life. In comes Parker Davis. Hot, sexy, amazing, Swoon-worthy Parker. I really felt a connection with Willow and I loved her the moment I started reading. This was beautifully written and Nicky did an amazing job with the character development.

Willow and Parker have an obvious attraction to each other and the sexual tension between them is intense. But because of her sudden break up with her fiance, it's hard for her to trust people. They are both drawn to each other, but Parker pushes her away. Parker could be a jerk at times but most of the time.. my goodness he made my heart melt. Especially how he acted towards his best friends daughter.

Just when you think all is well with everyone tragedy strikes. The ending of Taking Flight ripped me open and left me raw. I.Was.Sobbing. And I was ready to book a flight to Nicky and go all Kathy Bates on her so she would change the ending. Just kidding.

I've read all of Nicky's books and this was by far one of my favorite. Even with the ending breaking me. I can't can't wait for the second book in this series. And I need it now. I'm very anxious to see how the characters end up and seeing more of Willow's and Parker's relationship growing.

This can be read as a standalone but characters from her novel Footprints are also in this one. I would recommend reading that before Taking Flight. And trust me, you'll want to read them both!

She is so amazing at what she does! I offered to beta read this one for her. When I heard this book was being released and then something happened to the release, I was so upset because I love how Nicky Jayne puts her heart and soul into her stories, and for things bad to happen to her like what did, was very upsetting. This novel is the follow up of Footprints. Footprints, to me was the greatest!! The story starts with Tanner and Riley getting married. It explains more on Tanners best friend Parker as well. When Nicky starts to explain more on Parker, it also tells us that he is all messed up because he is in love with Willow. It then takes you back to the past and lets you know what happened and why he is so messed up.

Taking Flight is the novel of Willow and Parker. It will take you through their relationship and everything in their lives. I loved this story-line in this novel... It really made me so emotional at some points that I had to keep reading to see if things either got better or at least different. I could not put this book down for anything. ♥lol♥ ....
Parker is a super sexy bad boy with some emotional tethers. I love that about him. If I could find a man like him today, he would be MINE! lol.. It is so hard to find someone that is sexy and also kind...

Am I right ladies?? I know I am.

Willow is the girl who just got dumped and is now living far away from her previous life. She had a fiance, and now they aren't together. She just wants a fresh start in a new life, which now is in Texas. Which is where she ends up meeting Parker.

Go get this book now.. you will not be disappointed!! I would have to rate this book 5++ Stars because it is just so emotional, raw, and so well written... I loved it!!

This is the second book In this series. I really liked this book because it started out about Tanner & Rioeys wedding and telling about there daughter Angel.
This is Willow & Parkers Story. Parker is Tanners best friend from book one. Willow has something very bad happen to her and she leaves town. She rides the bus to a small town and falls in love with the town because everyone is so kind. A lot of stuff happens to her in this little town and she thinks about leaving. Parker saves Willow a couple of times in this story. But he is really mean to her. I just felt like sometimes jumping in the book and asking him what was wrong with him, I think they are meant to be together but I don't know, they are both so broke n that they can't see it. Parker loves Tanner & Rileys daughter Angel so much. I loved the characters in this book except for Duncan I did not, like him at all. When you read the story you will understand. I love that it brings Tanner & Riley back and tells about there life. I was very sad with the ending it broke my heart.
Nicky Jayne is a great author and I love her writing. I really enjoyed everything she wrote in this book and I can't wait to see what happens in book 3 with Willow & Parker. Even though I was a little upset with the ending of this book. You really need to read this book it has a lot of heartbreak, sadness and happiness all rolled into one story. I think she wrote this so great to be able to bring you so many emotions in one book.

Taking Flight is a spin off from Footprints which I did not get to read from the author but this book can be read as a stand alone.

The story opens up with a wedding from characters Nicky and Tanner from Footprints and then the book goes into it's storyline with the characters Willow and Parker. Willow works for Parker but she is in the process of making her relationship with her boyfriend Duncan work. At first Willow sees Parker as her boss and that's all. Parker on the other hand is tormented by his feelings for Willow because he has never felt this way for any other women. In the begining of the book he asks his friend Tanner "How did you know"? "You just do" and so Parker's quest begins.

Parker is rich, has it all cars, women, a business but the one thing that he wants he can't have and that's Willow. Willow is determine to make her relationship with Duncan work but deep down there are issues with Parker that Willow must face.

The book reads as an journey of two people who haunted by their pasts but determine to move forward. Both Parker and Willow must come to terms that there is something strong between them, but can they continue this connection together or separtely.

I absolutely loved this book, it brought out emotions in me which is a good thing. I love a book that evokes emotions, not just love, romance, but a good old shouting match with the character you are reading about. Will really did get me angry when she wanted to move on........
she found an ideal place and she wants to move on?
[read it, you'll know just what I mean!]

Duncan is a no hoper.

I really am not keen on chapters that go from one persons POV to another chapter with anothers POV. It kinda makes me yearn for the years gone by way of writing, but this book, this book transitioned very well, I was able to follow it OK.
I did get annoyed because of certain situations, its like going over something AGAIN but with another persons take on it. Sometimes for me, that was hard to read, but that's nothing against the authors way of writing, that is my personal oddity.

This is a book that you will LOVE to read, I was crying so hard at the end, its Easter, and my chocolate did comfort me after reading this!

I was given this book as a complimentary in exchange for my honest review.

Its times like this that I am really glad I sign up for some blog tours.

I was given this book to review for hooked on books.

Taking flight is the follow up novel to footprints, it follows Parker (Tanners best friend) and Willows story. Willows heart is broken by her fiancé Duncan, so much so that she flees to a little town in Texas called Lake Jackson. Trying to start a fresh and leave her troubles behind, She gets friendly with the old couple Sharon and bob who run the little cafe, there she meets there foster son Parker. Thats where there emotional roller coast ride begins.

Willow has been hurt so badly she refuses to let anyone in. Parker is a rich troubled soul with a lot of pent up anger but he just can't work out his feelings for willow. It also brings Tanner and Riley's story into the novel and we follow the heartbreaking changes they face.

This book was bloody brilliant, it just blew me away, I loved everything about it. It made me feel every emotion you could ever think of, a real page turner, I couldn't put it down. This is a must read with lots of twists and turns that will leave your head in a spin.

I ugly cried. I mean COME ON!!! I love the new characters we are introduced to in this book. Parker is the perfect combination of book boyfriend and douchebag. Willow, bless her heart, has so much crap to go through. And Duncan… I wish he got hit by a car. In this book, you have the characters from the first book, but you also learn of the people around them, hence Willow and Parker. I give props to Nicky for having Willow be strong. In some novels, the woman falls to the man’s feet no matter what he does. Willow stands up for herself even if she finds Parker sexy. To watch these two interact is both hysterical and heartbreaking. I won’t spoil anything, but I knew something was coming… And I cried like a baby. I MEAN REALLY?!?! I was hoping that the epilogue was joke… but as my heart breaks, it wasn’t a joke. Even with the ending it had, this book is exactly what I would look for in a book. A book that can make me laugh, connect with the characters, and ugly cry is a good book to me. Once again she nailed it. Definite must read.

This book had me face just about every emotion possible. I laughed, cried, cheered, and hated.
Willow has something Horrible happen to her and she leaves town. She rides takes the gray hound to the end of the line, which is a small town in Texas. She falls in love with the kindness of the people. The kindness freaks her out and she leaves in haste. almost getting hit by a car, Parker saves her life. Once she is good she goes to leave and she changes her mind ends up staying. Parker can't get Willow out of his mind.He is watching her at the hotel when he notices a man who looks suspicious and walks to Willows room. Parker ends up saving Willow again. But he is really mean to her. I think they are meant to be together but I don't know, they are both so broke n that they can't see it. This book is so emotional, the ending is heart breaking.

I don't know where to start! I wont post spoilers but I will say have your tissues handy! This book tugs at your heartstrings! Willow, faces a devastating truth and runs. Its the only thing she can do, start over. We meet Parker, lets just say he is the hot bad boy....or at least that is what he wants us to believe. He has had his fair share of problems. These two apparently are attracted to each other but with demons that threaten to break them both, they avoid each other like the plague. Tanner and Riley are in this book as well, if you haven't read Footprints, do that first! Their little girl Angel has wrapped Parker around her finger. As tragedy strikes, they have to ban together to help each other through. Will anything be the same? Will Parker and Willow admit how they feel? Read this book to find out! So ready for the next one, Grounded!

4 stars. Taking Flight is a follow up to Nicky's book Footprints. Taking Flight is Parker and Willows story and tells about their struggle finding love with each other. Parker is troubled hot and an alpha male to the T. Willow is gorgeous and heartbroken and refuses to let anyone in even sexy as hell Parker. Their relationship is rocky and up and down but Parker refuses to let willow go. They had me frustrated and wanting to scream I mean seriously wake up and realize you guys are meant for each other!! This book had some romance, drama and a major twist that will have your mouth dropping to the floor. I enjoyed the way these characters pulled me in and had me feeling every emotion possible and rooting for them to get a happy ending.

Willow has caught her fiance cheating on their anniversary. She picks up and goes wherever the US takes her.

Parker, who is Tanner's best friend, lost his parents at a young age. His temper usually gets the best of him. Having Willow mess with his mind is not something he had planned.

This book.... ugh. I wanted to junk punch her ex and Parker! Parker didn't know whether to come or go. I am so glad they worked out their differences though. The ending..... no effing way!! I'm completely blown the Heck away!! I was crying and saying no while I was reading! Gutted!!!!

This series just gets better and better! So looking forward to the next one!!

5 out of 5 amazing stars!

Taking Flight Book #2 in The Deception Series by Nicky Jayne

Here we meet Willow and the utterly gorgeous Parker.

After a turn in her life she didnt see coming Willow decides to up and leave her home and start again who knows where. Her journey takes her to a small town, where we meet Parker.
Riley and Tanner from Footprints (book #1 in the Deception Series) also make appearances.

I have been completely blown away yet again by Nicky Jayne!!! And the twist that I didnt even come close to seeing coming has left me wanting to start Grounded NOW !!!!!!

This was a heart wrenching, gut churning read. Nicky Jayne slaughtered my emotions and had me straight out ugly crying. Her story was so beautifully written, with character I was so emotionally invested in, that I couldn't help but feel their joy, and their pain
