Rachel wakes up, gasping for breath, and immediately knows her children are in danger. The scent of magnolias is heavy in the air, which means the Collector is coming…

Schoolteacher Rachel Logan is living an ordinary life in a small community at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. As a single mother still reeling from the sudden death of her husband, she refuses to allow her life to be shaken by whispers of a local thief called the Collector. But when a little boy and girl are taken, everything changes.

On her isolated ranch on the edge of the forest, Rachel feels someone is watching her. The scent of magnolias clings to her bedsheets each morning, which her family’s gift tells her is a bad omen. And when a photograph is stolen from her house with a tarot card left in its place—the Collector’s twisted signature—she knows her children will be his next victims.

Terrified, Rachel is relieved when her husband’s best friend Hank offers to move in to protect her family. Especially because she can feel something dark stirring in the woods just beyond her ranch. But it soon becomes clear that the Collector isn’t after her children, and has instead set his sights on Rachel…

Can Rachel outwit an unimaginable evil before time runs out for two innocent children? And even if she does manage to save their lives, can a monster like the Collector ever be stopped?

This utterly gripping small-town thriller is perfect for fans of Rachel Caine, Melinda Leigh and Mary Kubica, and anyone looking for a page-turner packed with unguessable, gripping twists.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Rachel Logan knows danger is near when the scent of magnolias is everywhere. It’s a family gift. A sign of a bad omen. She has heard about The Collector, a local thief who has now upped his game. He is now taking children. A little boy and a little girl. Now a photograph has been taken from her house and The Collector has left his calling card. Will he come back for her children? or is he really after her?

Ms. Webb has introduced strong characters in the first book in this series. Rachel Logan is a widow with two small children and a schoolteacher. She has a unique warning system associated with her mother and the Deep South. The sweet smell of magnolias has only been present at two other times in her life until now, when her parents died in a horrible car crash, and then 3 years ago when her husband died on the battlefield in service of his country. Rachel lives with her grandmother. She is a fierce strong-willed woman and will go to great lengths to protect Rachel and her children. Hank Carson was Rachel’s husband’s best friend and has moved nearby from Texas to watch over her and her family. These characters are well-crafted and it is very easy to get caught up in their lives.

The Collector is lurking everywhere with his disturbing rituals, tarot cards, and his eerie plan. A true psychopath, and readers get right into his head. The story pulls you in with chilling twists and thrilling details. Rachel impressed me with the way she was able to think on her feet and do her best while panicking on the inside. Her resilience was palpable. I figured out some things before they were presented in the story but that only enhanced my reading. I needed to know if I was right and how it was going to play out as the story continued. The story was intense throughout but the pages were really flying those last few chapters. Ms. Webb’s writing style is gripping.

Rachel’s sisters Jen and Annie make cameos in this story. The second book in the series, Taken in the Dark features the older sister Jen. Readers are treated to a prologue at the end of this book, it had my heart racing. It will be released on June 4, 2024.

Black Crow Cabin is a riveting read and a compelling start for this series. The tension builds right from the start and does not let up. I would have read it all in one sitting had my eyes cooperated. It was a very nightmarish Perfect Escape.

I purchased this book from Amazon.

My love for mysteries and thrillers led me to pick up Black Crow Cabin by Peggy Webb. It's a brilliant start to the Logan Sisters thriller series. Webb weaved an intriguing, shocking, and bizarre thriller. A tale intended to keep readers hooked from start to finish.

The series revolves around three sisters who have extraordinary abilities. Rachel Logan, a schoolteacher, widow, and mother of two gorgeous children, is introduced in Black Crow Cabin. She has the capacity to detect when danger is close. She lives in a beautiful, small town, but the presence of The Collector disrupts the tranquilly. So named because of their penchant for 1. taking personal items from their victims' homes. 2. kidnapping children 3. Leaving behind a tarot card at the crime scene.

So when several items went missing from her home and a tarot card was left behind, Rachel knew her children were in danger. Will she be able to protect her children from the infamous Collector?

Rachel demonstrated bravery and smarts for most of the story. However, there were two instances where she failed to use her smarts and ended up placing herself in a precarious situation.

Black Crow Cabin delivered on the thrills and chills. Suspense and a sense of danger had me hooked. The Collector's POV added to the tension and made for some interesting reading. Despite the horrific details in some instances, diehard fans of thrillers will have a hard time putting this one down. I look forward to what else the series has to offer.

Atmospheric, with a high creep factor, this book had me captured and on the edge of my seat from page one. With a villain called The Collector who takes items from homes and children from parks, the story is mesmerizing and all too realistic. Rachel Logan is the strong female protagonist, a widow with two small children and who is being targeted by The Collector. With scent playing an insidious role in the story, I was enthralled by Rachel’s ability to sense the presence of evil by the scents that lingered and warned her of danger or change. The book’s hero is swoon worthy Hank, a helicopter pilot and the self-appointed guardian for Rachel and her children since he swore to her deceased husband to take care of her. The plot is fast-paced and twisted, with the Collector showing up wherever and whenever unexpectedly and always leaving behind a tarot card to announce his presence. I enjoyed following the clues and even enjoyed being fooled by the red herrings and false trails. The characters are well-developed and realistically portrayed, with my heart going out to the parents of the missing children who are understandably panicked. This book is a propulsive thriller and an addictive mystery, all set in the scenic west of a small town in Colorado. With crisp writing and gripping suspense, the book was hard to put down from the beginning until the stunning conclusion. This is a heart-in-your-throat novel with intricate plot threads and s terrifying tale of danger from unexpected sources.

Black Crow Cabin: A completely addictive thriller packed with suspense is a gripping, shocking, well thought out, and mysterious small town thriller with paranormal aspects. I enjoyed the mystery, the characters, and the mounting danger on every page!

Rachel is a schoolteacher who is navigating life after the sudden death of her husband. She, her children, and her grandmother are living in a small town which appears to be picture perfect. Unfortunately, living amongst them is a “collector" who takes children. Rachel has heard the whispers of the locals, she has heeded the danger, but when a photograph is taken from their home and a tarot card is left in its place, she knows her children are in danger. Rachel calls Henk, her husband's best friend, who agrees to come and stay with the family to keep them safe.

Readers are given the POV of the collector which makes for interesting reading. Knowing the thoughts, motivations, and goal of the Collector enhanced the story for me. Who is the collector? What has this person never been caught????? These were the questions swirling through my mind as I read.

I enjoyed the tension, the mounting sense of danger, the suspense, and the paranormal aspects of the book. The paranormal parts come in the form of "gifts" the women in the family have. This is the first book in the 'Logan Sisters' series which has me assuming that each sister will have her own book with the other sisters having minor roles as was the case in this book.

I found this to be a solid start for the series. I look forward to reading the next book when it comes out.

3.5 stars

A quiet Colorado town is thrown into a paranoid frenzy when someone begins to kidnap children in plain sight. We see the crimes unfold through Rachel, a single mother with a tough-as-nails grandma, both trying to protect her two kids from the threat. We also get the perspective of the Collector, a disturbed man trying to build his own family while his mental state fractures. I think the only aspect of the story I got into was the Collector's POV- his background feels standard for the crimes he commits, but his narrative was interesting. There was decent interplay between his vanity and the deep insecurities driving his actions. I unfortunately can't say the same for anyone else, as they all felt a bit one-dimensional.
All I know of Rachel is that she's scared for her children and determined to protect them. I found the explanations of Rachel's thoughts heavy-handed, without any actions to support them- she is terrified for her kids and identifies danger, but doesn't think to call the police herself in times of crisis? I also really had to question her understanding of the moral code of landlords. Her grandmother is "Western tough" but also has repetitive callbacks to her Irish roots, which seem pretty distant, and basically work as another way to say she's tough? The desirable men in the story are the military personified, which means they don't have much going on beyond the desire to protect. That's fine, but it doesn't really make for strong connections to the characters, since they are all characterized in reference to the crimes occurring and their fear of it touching someone they care for- we don't see much of their other feelings or motivations.
Overall, I think it was a serviceable thriller that could do for a beach read when you want something that follows twists and turns you expect with a bit of thrill from the villain's perspective.

Black Crow Cabin kept me engaged from the first page. It was an interesting plot line with the Collector which you assume is just a serial killer taking children. The signature stolen item in exchange for the tarot card sets the stage for another kidnapping. Rachel, the lead character who is a widow and single mother has a gift. You learn early on the family is "gifted" in different ways. The three sisters each have a different "special gift" that is touched on briefly. Hank is the best friend of her dead husband who looks out for whatever Rachel may need and he is her close friend. Hank would love more in the relationship department but doesn't want to ruin what relationship they have now. I loved the grandmothers' spunk where she always has the shotgun ready! My kind of woman! As the mystery of who the collector is unfolds through his POV, the reader starts to see the madness that has taken over his need for the perfect family.
I loved the paranormal aspect of the book. The way the author weaved it into a thriller kept me wanting to know more. Although I hope in the next book the author goes more in depth on these "gifts", I thought it brought more to the story than the usual of finding a killer. I have read other books by this author, and I have always enjoyed them, but I really enjoyed this new series. The Collector was original. Rachel and Hank were likable characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read something different and enjoys a good whodunit!

Evil is about when residents in Rachel Logan’s small town just might be in danger. This is especially the case when two of the town’s children disappear without a trace. Still reeling from the sudden loss of her husband, with the disappearance of the children, Rachel’s concern for her own family raises her stress levels significantly.

Living in fear is certainly not easy, especially when caring for her two young children. Rachel cannot help but to wonder if they are in danger. Is it the town itself? Perhaps it is because there is talk of someone local, a thief referred to as the Collector. Rachel is more than worried that this person could come after her family.

Rachel soon learns that she is not alone. She is rather relieved when her husband’s best friend Hank steps in to protect them. To make them feel safe. Hank even goes so far as to plan on moving in to protect the family. That eerie feeling that Rachel just cannot let go of? Well, things begin to happen that are just too close to home.

What a thrilling story! This is the kind of book that will have you reading with bated breath. Eager to know what fear is really lurking, and how much danger is actually present.

As Rachel has two sisters, Black Crow Cabin is the first book in the Logan Sisters Thriller series. As Rachel’s story was utterly intriguing and truly impossible to put down, I am eager to continue this series.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

ARC for review. To be published April 30, 2024.

Rachel Logan Maxey, a single mother of two who is still recovering from the death of her husband lives just outside Manitou Springs, Colorado, a small town in the Rocky Mountains. A local boy, then a girl are kidnapped a the suspect is called the Collector, a thief, who seems to have escalated. A statue and a photo are stolen from Rachel’s home, tarot cards left in their places and she is afraid her children will be the Collector’s next targets.

Her husband’s best friend Hank offers to move in with the family to provide protection. Is the Collector after Rachel’s children or is he looking for something else?

This is billed as the first book in the Logan Sisters series, but we don’t see much of the other two sisters as one lives in Florida (she turns up toward the end) and one in Italy (she’s barely in the book at all,) but the very end offers a hint as to how the author plans to handle the distance, I think.

This was just OK, probably a 2.5 star book. The Collector was pretty obvious to me the first time he was mentioned, the writing style is a bit over dramatic and, Lord help us, the magnolia scent every other page! Not to mention….that tip off never seemed to help her at all! Perhaps this is the author’s debut, I don’t recall, and maybe she’ll settle down a bit? Probably not for me, I’m rounding up because I assume it’s her first book.

Watch out! There’s a Collector about. Not only is he collecting trinkets, he’s nabbing pets and children … he’s an odd ball to say the least but who the hell is he?!?!? But now he’s after Rachel’s family!! Why?!?

I loved the family dynamic at the centre of the novel. Rachel with her gran by her side is devoted to her children, she’d do anything for them. Rachel’s ability to sense danger is startling and I think I’d find it unnerving! Then there are her sisters scattered but they have this connection which is just uncanny!

Oh Hank – I have found a new book crush in this man. A pilot who’s good with his hands, caring but not to be messed with. I love the way he looks after the Logan family as if they were his own. In my head, he’s a man who is not super muscly or drop dead gorgeous but definitely a Jason Statham kind of guy (that said he’s both for me 😍).

This is a pacey tense crime thriller that I flew through. If you’re looking for a new series that’s not quite a police procedural but has a crime to solve, I’d so recommend this as a starter for 10. Rachel is a teacher, not a police officer or any way related to law enforcement. She’s just a mum wanting the best for her kids and that includes their safety.

I’m really looking forward to going to Florida getting to know sister Jen in Taken In The Dark, the second in this series!!

I am always delighted when I discover a "new to me" author, and even more excited when I love the book that led me to the author. That is exactly what happened when I was reading Black Crow Cabin by Peggy Webb, book one in her Logan Sister thriller series. A thriller it definitely is, and had me riveted from the first page to the last. The story revolves around Rachel Logan, a young widow, teacher, mother of two, living with her children and grandmother Victoria Logan.
Since her husband's death she has been struggling financially to maintain her family's ranch, however she remains steadfast and determined that all will work out. Added to that stress there was a series vandalism incidents in her usually quiet and harmonious community. The incidents escalated from lawn ornaments, to household items to pets and ultimately two children were missing. The community residents began to refer to the perpetrator as The Collector. Things get very intense when Rachel stops a man from abducting a child; she immediately becomes the town celebrity. It turns out that he is not The Collector. All Rachel is concerned with is protecting her children and Victoria, yet she is unwittingly drawn into The Collector's plan. If you are looking for a compelling, well crafted thriller with realistic characters that will keep you on the edge of your seat, I highly recommend Black Crow Cabin. 5 Stars

Rachel Logan Maxey is a widow with two children. She is a teacher in a small community.
Strange things have been happening. Children are disappearing, taken by "The Collector" who steals items from houses, leaving his calling card of a Tarot card.

Rachel can feel there is danger around her, she smells the scent of Magnolias. She feels she is being watched, but there is no one around her.

Hank, her late husband's friend is a tower of strength, she knows she can rely on him to keep her family safe.

This is a creepy thriller, with a touch of supernatural - as in the smell of Magnolias when trouble is close.
The reader can feel the menace surrounding Rachel, and her fear for her children.
The Collector is a strange character, whose talking to himself is very irritating. He is definitely not right in the head, and is a cruel psychopath.

Rachel is a strong, brave and sensible woman, but definitely needs a man to lean on.

The book has a little of everything - thrills, twists, romance and some utter psycho madness.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

Rachel is young widow, raising two children with her grandmother in a small town. Their tiny town is tormented by The Collector, a criminal who has been breaking into homes and kidnapping children. Rachel is terrified for her children’s safety and suspects every male she comes across. I could not connect to the characters or the story line.. I questioned Rachel’s thought process many times, as she was so worried for her family’s safety, but when she encountered trouble, calling the police was not her first action. Rachel senses danger by the smell of flowers, while one of her sisters has premonitions in her dreams and another sister by following the behavior of birds (though they are mentioned, they are background characters in this story). I found the villain to be quite odd and quickly grew tired of his repetitive phrases, “oh yes, ___” and “oh no, ___”. The villains story ended rather quickly, when much of the story was centered around him and the terror he instilled in the town.

(3.5)Widow single mother, a serial "collector", strong grandmother, ex military friend with possible love interest and twists. Rachel our widowed mother is also a school teacher. Hank is ex military. I knew who the collector was when first appeared on the page, but there were still some excellent twists which is why I rounded up to a 4. This was a little slow until more than half way thru=ough the book. I am not sure if maybe because it's book one and laying the groundwork or if its just me. This has some cringe worthy suspense moments and a few heartfelt emotions with Hank. Rachel seemed to second and third guess her self which would pull me out of the story. I am the odd man out in the collector did nothing for me till the end when we got the back story. I felt sorry for him and what he was trying to build, but not everyone acts on darkness, There is a hint of spooky, paranormal or cajun woo woo which enhanced the plot. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #BlackCrowCabin #PeggyWebb #Bookouture #NetGalley

Black Crow Cabin by Peggy Webb is book 1 in the new Logan Sisters Thriller series. A good start and a suspenseful read. There were some creepy moments when the reader was put into the culprit's mind. I know there are some scary people in the real world, and reading this book and seeing into the killer's mind had some "ewww" moments.

I adored Rachel's daughter, Susan. At such a young age, she endured a lot, losing her father and trying to navigate her role in the family. It was sad and heartbreaking when Rachel watched her daughter, who was wearing her cape from her aunt, and hoped it would make her invisible, not as an innocent child but to escape some of life's harsh realities.

Rachel is quite down to earth, and the culprit is quite scary. The Logan sisters are good characters and strong in their own ways. There is a slight mystical element to the story involving their deceased mother.

Black Crow Cabin is the first in the Logan Sisters series, and Peggy Webb has really set the bar high for herself! This book had so much mystery and edge-of-your-seat thrills that kept me guessing until the end. And that Epilogue cliffhanger was just cruel! Haha

Single, widowed mother, Rachel Logan was a school teacher who got along with everyone. When the local bad actor, nicknamed The Collector kidnaps children instead of just stealing random items from people’s houses, Rachel worries about her two children being next.

Rachel does all that she can to keep this from happening, but will fate and the Collector have other ideas? What will happen in their town of Manitou? Will the Collector be stopped? Will the kidnapped children be found in time?

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for this thrilling new ARC!!!

A new series and a new author for me.
I loved how the mysticism of New Orleans wafted its way to the Colorado Rockies. The scent of magnolias was like the do do music playing in the background…very ominous.
Rachel was bad ass all through the book. The best part was her time with the Collector. It was so creepy how she held her own against the demented maniac. I surmised her plan based on her tote bag before it was implemented and I got some hardy laughs at the descriptive outcome. However, it was also scary and I read faster to see what would happen.
Hunky Helicopter Hank and his Stetson had my heart from the start.
The ending was sublime but I must know what happens to the other sisters!
I finally got how the book title fit in after Cuckoo of the Crows fluttered in.

I liked the atmosphere this book is immersed in. It's creepy and a bit ghostly even and oh so good.

A sneaky and deranged person is terrorizing the normally peaceful village. But now every parent is terrified, because The Collector has his eye on their children. He leaves a calling card, warning the villagers to watch out, but even if they had eyes in the back of their heads, it would be difficult to prevent him from striking.

Rachel is careful and tries to take every precaution she can, but she never saw this coming...

This is a very good start to a new series. If you like characters who can stand their ground, this definitely is a book for you.

It gets the full 5 stars from me.

Thank you

This was a cozy thriller. There weren't any scenes that were overly mature or gorey except for a few short paragraphs related to animal violence (trigger warning). The story was well written and exciting. Rachel is a strong female character whose only goal is to protect her family. I loved the addition of the "6th sense" the sisters have from their mother. Jen is another Logan sister, but she have much presence in this story besides boss people around, which is a known fault of hers, after Rachel’s home was targeted. I anticipate seeing more of her in future books. I, personally, didn't like the inner dialogue of The Collector. It was a bit silly at times but easy to overlook. This has been the start of a good series, and I'm looking forward to reading the sequel!

This is the first book in a series and I am already impatiently awaiting book two!! Rachel, an overprotective single mother, is obsessed with a the local "collector." He is a person that no one notices. He manages to slide in and out of people's houses, snatching things as he goes. Sometimes this includes people. This is a book that I could not put down. Once I started, the pages just kept turning. I do not think you would want to miss this book. This is my first Peggy Webb book, but happily it will not be my last!! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book for my honest opinion.

Rachel is a single mother and a schoolteacher in a small community that is being threatened by "The Collector". A person that started out taking small items out of houses and now is taking children. Rachel has a foreshadowing of smelling magnolia's that the Collector is after her children next, but it isn't the children he is after, it is her. Can her deceased husband's best friend Hank, protect them from the coming events?

This is a fast paced, edge of your seat story that holds your interest from the first page to the last. I can't wait to see what the next book is in the series.

Black Crow Cabin by Peggy Webb is the first book in a new Logan Sisters series and what a brilliant start this was. I have never read a book by this author so I was so pleased to find a new author that I really enjoyed reading from the very first chapter, especially as it was a solid start to find out more about the Logan sisters. I loved the way Peggy wrote this book with excellent twists and turns that will have you turning the pages to find out what happens next - defiantly a great page turner Black Crow Cabin was.

Superb and I highly recommend this book.....Looking forward reading the second book.

I related to Rachel as a mom who wants to protect my children but sometimes I wanted to scream at her and say call the cops already. I loved the dual POV and enjoyed the killers POV especially. It was interesting to see the world from his eyes and get a bit of background on why he is the way he is. Rachel’s grandmother is a hilarious old Irish woman who isn’t scared of anything and loves her little farm. Overall a great start to the series and I’m looking forward to seeing more from the other sisters and not just Rachel.

Wow. This is quite the crime thriller. One of my favorites this year! I was engaged with Rachel & the other characters throughout. With several suspects, I wasn’t prepared for the twists that kept coming at the end. I love when a thriller shocks me!

I don’t know how I didn’t know of Peggy Webb before this book, but I’m an instant fan!

This is the first book in the exciting #LoganSistersseries & I already know the #LoganSistersThrillers will be great to read! Can’t wait for the other books to publish!

Half the time I wanted to shake Rachel, and the other half of the time I was wondering what I would do in that situation, which I feel is such a good quality in a book, the ability to imagine yourself in it. I love a story that will keep me on the edge of my seat the whole time and pull me in right away and this book did! Also It may just be me, but Criminal Minds vibes?? Anyone else?

This is the first book in the Logan sisters series. Rachel is a school teacher that is more than a little freaked out with the kidnapping of children in her small town. She knows her children are in danger and the collector has her in his sights ! Although a bit slow to start the suspense revved up about half way through and ends with so much suspense and thrills! Great start to a new series and look forward to more books by Peggy Webb.

Black Crow Cabin gives us a bit of a paranormal aspect to the story which I found intriguing.
The plot has many twists and turns throughout that has you wondering what is going on and what is going to happen next.
The story did start out a bit slow for me. I am glad I pushed on and kept reading.
Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

What a brilliant start to a new series. Black Crow Cabin is the first in the Logan Sisters series by Webb (a new to me author) and it's a proper page turner.

The added bonuses for me were the girl's inherited gift from their mother, their sixth sense and the glimpses we got into the mind of The Collector.

All of the sisters were strong, well developed characters, in fact I'm already looking forward to a catch-up in book two.

And it delivered on the thrills and chills the suspense had me on the edge of my seat! The collectors pov added to the tension and had me on the edge of my seat I cannot wait book two!

Book one in the Logan sisters.
Amazing twisty suspense read.
Rachel Logan is a schoolteacher. Living in a small town where children are going missing. Rachel is keeping a watchful eye on her children but now the threat is for Rachel not her children.
I love how strong Rachel became. And how the town all pulled together.

I definite page Turner, that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
