Mallory Vineyard #1

Future Fake Husband

Rate this book
Cole Mallory is on the brink of losing everything.
For the past seven years, Cole has dedicated himself to managing Mallory Vineyard, the winery his family owns. It’s not that he hasn’t had time for a relationship so much as he’s never found anyone he wanted to devote time to beyond the initial getting to know you stage. But that all needs to change—and fast—because if Cole wants to inherit the vineyard, he needs to be married.

Rhett Kingston is about to have a new life dropped into his lap.
What started out as a night of lonely drinking in a local bar ends with Rhett agreeing to "fake marry" his twin brother’s best friend. Rhett will act as the perfect future fake husband for Cole and, in turn, Cole will help Rhett launch the event planning business he’s always dreamed of owning.

Before they know it, their totally fake relationship is tangled up with completely mutual desire. After a destination wedding forces Cole and Rhett into the same bed, sparks fly and fictional feelings escalate and threaten to turn into something very, very real and more than either of them bargained for.

While I liked both MC's and normally adore fake relationship books, almost everything about this story was just "too" for me.

Too much UST. Like, from the moment they laid eyes on one another, the attraction was instantly there, which felt too fast and lacked a sense of build-up.

Too much perfect. Except for one hiccup in Cole inheriting the vinyard, everything was kind of OTT 'amazing'. Tahiti was perfect, Cole's body was perfect, the wine was perfect, the food was perfect, their friends were perfect, it was just all so... perfect.

Too much worrying. "Is it real, is it real, is it real?" Yes, it's real now, please shut up about it all damn ready.

Too many sexy times. Swear to God, if they'd pulled their dicks out one more time, I was gonna Lorena Bobbit a coupla bitches. Ain't even joking.

I did appreciate that the book was aiming to be upbeat, but real life, even the enjoyable parts, has more rough edges than this story had, and after a while, I was just ready for all of the perfect to be over. "Too" ready. :- /

2.75 *needed-more-adversity* stars, but if you're in the mood for sappily sweet, you'll probably enjoy this story more than I did.

~3.5~

This is a sexy, fun, essentially angst-free story featuring hot nights in Tahiti, a fern named Lucy, Santa hats, wine, a fake relationship that is real from the get-go, sizzling UST, and a glittery HEA.

My only complaint is that Cole's sister's change of heart felt abrupt. Also, his grandparents' decision didn't seem believable. Wouldn't you want someone competent and dedicated handling your legacy?

If you like pretend boyfriend tropes, give this book a try.

If people complain about romance novels, because they are ridiculous and absolutely fake, I guess they read something like this. It was a cliché from beginning to end, sugary sweet - I think I have to see a dentist, after finishing it.
The idea sounded really nice. Cole, who runs the vineyard of his family, needs a fake husband, so his grandparents realize he settled down and is worthy to become the next owner of the family business. Rhett is Coles best friends brother and has his own reasons to agree to the arrangement.
We are told that they knew each other for a long time, but after they start the pretend boyfriend thing they fall in love within approximately 3 minutes.
What also bothered me a lot, was that the side characters were all more or less black and white, none of them felt real and genuine.
The story was very predictable, thankfully without too much drama, but I guess I will have completely forgotten what it was about by tomorrow.
So this okay while it lasted, but I would not really recommend it, very average 3 star read.

My big issue with this book was I couldn't get past the insta-love, and is not like I hate it I just need it to be believable. They have known each other since childhood, even if the actual friend was his twin Ryan, and just like that after they agreed to a marriage of convenience, the next second they're seeing the other in a new light and having the hots for each other. I couldn't believe it. Another thing is the book intended to be cute, I like cute, but their interactions just seemed silly to me.

Sweet Christmas

I gave Future Fake Husband four stars because I think it has re-read potential.

I would have liked more ust at the beginning, the attraction was so instantaneous that it felt like they would have noticed sooner.

The book was a sweet romp, especially the Christmas proposal. The Mallory grandparents were jerks, the family, for the most part, was irredeemable, even the sister, but otherwise, this was a nice little hea romance.

These two authors together are gold. Future Fake Husband is an adorable story. I love the premise of fake relationships, there's just something about the idea of falling in love due to the forced proximity gets me.

Cole and Rhett have known each other their whole lives. Cole's best friend is Rhett's twin, another trope that I love. Best friend's brother can always go either or and I love the drama, though there wasn't any here. Which is okay, because this book is sweet and funny, and it didn't need any added angst. Cole needs to get married to inherit his family's vineyard. Rhett needs help getting his business off the ground.

It's not using if they're using each other, right? Just a mutual business agreement between two consenting adults. At least that's what Cole and Rhett start out with. It quickly goes off the rails.

I love how easy these two get together. While neither one of them is looking for more, their fake relationship doesn't stay fake for long. In true Emo and Word Magician style things heat up and these two want--need more.

I loved how sweet and simple this book was. It wasn't too angsty, even though there were moments of drama within Cole's family. Neither man let insecurities get in the way of what they were building. They might not have ever looked at the other as more than a friend over the years, but when they started to, they found everything they didn't know they needed.

There are a lot of funny moments in this book. There's a killer street crab, a fern named Lucy, a lot of wine, and some others things I can't say because of spoilers.

I felt good while reading this book. These two authors normally make me feel so many things and I am so happy they wrote a book that is fun and made me feel good. I did cry, but they were happy tears and I was shocked that something I knew was coming made me cry. Maybe because it was so sweet, so romantic, so well-written, I couldn't help but tear up.

If you're looking for a sweet book to give you all the warm fuzzy feels this winter then pick up Future Fake Husband.

Sweet, fast read.
No angst, no drama between the MC, just them.
Fast ending and a bit too easy but ehh. They are happy, so am I!

Cute little "I was under your nose the whole time" story.

The sister was a vapid, self-absorbed bitch... and then she wasn't? The transition wasn't believable in the least.

This one was cute. Nothing spectacular but a very cute very solid read with a HEA. I wish there was more backstory and UST, that would have garnered a higher rating from me.

Actually 3.5 stars. A bit of insta-love; a bit of faking it; a few family members being difficult; the usual fake-romance story; but quite entertaining nevertheless. Cole and Rhett are nice characters.

With thanks to the authors for a copy of this story.

This one was really cute. Cole has to be married in order to inherit the family-owned Mallory Vineyards and if he doesn't marry soon, it will be left to his sister Kristen who doesn't want it anyway. Ryan is Cole's best friend and he has a twin named Rhett. One day when Rhett and Cole are talking, Rhett tells Cole why he needs to be in a married relationship. Low and behold, that fits right into what Rhett also needs so he offers to be Cole's husband. Up until this time they'd never been anything but friends because of Cole's best friendship with Ryan. But as they begin to fake their relationship, they realize there's more than fake feelings there.

It was cute, but it wasn’t my favorite. Both characters were likable enough. I really like the nerd/popular trope so that was nice. Even though Cole and Rhett knew each other forever it still felt like their relationship was super rushed. And not like the pace at which they took things but one second Rhett was just his best friends brother and the next he was in love with him. I dunno. I would have just liked a little more build up to them falling in love. I would have understood if one of them had been pining for a while before they came to the fake dating arrangement. But apparently neither of them ever considered the other until it was convenient.

Like I said. It was still a cute read. Story was good. It just didn’t feel completely whole as far as the beginning of their relationship goes.

I love the fake relationship trope.... and best friend's brother romances make me squee in excitement. This book has both elements and is wonderfully written. Rhett and Cole are hot men who are a perfect mix of sweetness and sexiness. When what starts out as fake takes the turn into realness, I found myself smiling and bouncing with happiness. Amazing!

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

Really cute, so cute it gets a little schmaltzy. I liked that there was never a fake "breakup", though I think the attraction happens a little fast. It's like a flipped is switched. It doesn't make sense for people who've known each other their whole lives. I kind of hate Cole's family. I wanted him to tell them all to go f@ck themselves. His sister gets half a point but even she's bleh. I'm glad there wasn't any "how dare you" angst with Ryan accepting his twin and his best friend falling in love. Overall a nice if not memorable read.

This one should’ve been right up my alley.... but it wasn’t.

The writing felt off (too many Cole did that. And then Rhett did that...), the characters were flat, the story was too easy (I can’t believe i’m saying this) and when they finally slept together it was almost only sex, sex, sex.

Oh well.

A truly enjoyable fake husband story.
It's a friends to fake husbands to lovers but I also love the way in which the story plays out.
I really felt the connection between Cole and Rhett. There was easy interaction between them, especially once their story was established. The locations that they were in sounded just amazing! The vineyard itself, which is Cole's home and business, sounds like a wonderful place with beautiful views and weather to enjoy it all in. And then to Tahiti, well......it was so easy to imagine the men and the family there. The places they visited sound stunning and it was so easy to visualise.
Both Kate and E.M. are amazing writers and I've always found it's so easy to fall into their stories. They write emotional characters and story lines that hold your attention throughout and bring to life the world in which everything happens. Future Fake Husband does not disappoint. I quickly fell in love with the story and the two main characters. We also have several great supporting characters, one of which is Cole's best friend who is also Rhett's twin brother
My only teeny thought was about how quickly our MC's fell into the idea and ruse of the fake relationship. Other than that everything flows really well and I loved how our characters ended up with their HEA.
Definitely recommend this book, yet another hit from two of my favourite authors.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

This book was really boring. It did not manage to grab and pull me in at all.

It starts with Cole meeting his best friend's brother and even though they've known each other most of their lives, they both just suddenly fall in lust with each other. The first half is them trying not to fuck, because fake relationship, the second half is essentially just them fucking with a thin veneer of plot over it sometimes.
It's just so trite. The characters are flat and uninteresting, any emotions are just plastered on, nothing feels believable or meaningful. The sex scenes are probably not bad, technically, but they feel like a porn movie, put on and fake and pointless.

The writing didn't make me actively hate the book, so it's still 2 stars, but nothing in it made me want to read it either.
