This was my first book I've read from Jessica and it didn't disappoint. I cannot wait to continue on with this series.
Cordelia and Kai have been best friends since they were kids and have always loved each other from afar. When Cordi finds herself pregnant and alone, Kai steps up to claim her and her baby 🥹
This was such a heartwarming story, the way Kai takes care of Cordi will have you melting 🫠and Cordi was his biggest supporter and was willing to stand by her man, no matter what. I loved the mystery and suspense that came with this one too. I am completely invested now and I'm looking forward to Liam's book
Accidental Pregnancy, friends to lovers throw in sexy motorcross riding guy and you know its going to be good. I loved Kai and because of him I think I'm going to get into motorcross. I've seen it but never really paid attention but may change now. I loved the Coldwell brothers and can't wait to see where their story takes us next. Cordelia had my sympathy she's wanted her best friend Kai for so long but he's kept her at arms length and for good reason. And she had to love him from afar but yet so close seeing him all the time knowing he wouldn't cross that line. But when she needed someone kai was there and even though he put a target on her he stepped up to be there for her to protect her and show her he has loved her all these years just the same. And now they get to know each other all over again but as a couple and not best friends.
Kai and Cordelia. 4.5⭐️ read! I've been waiting to read their story for what feels like forever and Jessica's writing didn't disappoint once again! In this bestfriends to lovers, they are both in love since day one but Kai has his guard up to protect Cordie. All Cordelia wants is for Kai to let her in his world. Their friendship is so precious. Their bound is strong, pure and they would turn the world upside down for each other. Kai is one hell of a man. The way he protects, care and would do anything for Cordelia and her child, even if it's not biologically his. Everytime he calls her mama or kiss her baby bump my heart melts. The way his mind works is so sweet, he puts the ones he loves first and I love the no hesitation in taking care of her bestfriend and her baby as soon as he heard of it. Kai will def be the best dad for this kids, they might not be blood related, but they'll be bound by heart and love forever for sure. Also, the mouth of this man 🫠🔥 Cordelia is such a loyal, strong and hardworking girl. I love how she goes for what she wants in life and even when it all goes in the wrong directions and she's terrified, she manages to make the best of it and not back down. She's a badass. And the other characters, Kai's brothers and his mother, Cordelia's dad, gosh I loved them, I love the dynamic where they are all there for each other through thick and thin. The plot will keep you on edge the whole time, I can't wait for book 2. Even if the plot can be a bit more on the "heavy" side, Jessica balanced it all beautifully with cute, sweet, funny moments and day to day life that makes us fall in love with the characters on every pages (ok, we don't like all the characters, you'll see, but the good ones, we love them deeply lol).
Also, as always with Jessica's books , this one is beautiful, there's so much attention to all the little details and the art in it is so pretty!
This book was worth the wait and so so worth the read!

Kai Coldwell and Cordelia Quinn have been best friends since they were just kids, but now they're having a kid....oh wait, it's not his. BUT... Kai decides to make Cordi his once and for all after years and years of pushing her love away. Will motocross get in the way or keep them together....Will them being watched make her run away?
Cordi wants a loving, stable home for her baby, and she thinks marrying Kai is the way to go. Plus, she's but a sucker for him since day 1!
I don't want to give too much away with this story, but I loved it!!! Motocross, allllll the mutual pining, lots of tears, lots of I will burn the world down for you!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨️
Thank you, Jessica! I loved this beginning to a new series and can't wait for the other two coldwell brothers!! Also, I feel like this kinda ended on a cliffhanger, but not at the same time. Does that make sense?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I loved this book. I was hooked. I didn’t have many reading opportunities this week and could only read like 20-40 pages a day but then yesterday I smashed out over 250 pages cause I was so hooked.
I instantly fell in love with Kai and Cordi and now easily their newfound relationship comes to them you can really see how much they’ve loved each other and for so long.
I enjoyed seeing parts of Emerson and Liam, and looking forward to getting their stories. At the moment Liam is my favourite Coldwell brother. He’s so unhinged and I fcking love it. Where can I find one of him?
Such a strong start to the series so I’m excited to carry it on!
“You’ve been making mine do back flips from the moment I laid eyes on you.”
This was my first book by Jessica Myel, and I really enjoyed it! I loved Kai and Cordillia's friendship, and how much Kai loves and cares for her, and how he'd do anything to protect not only her but the baby she's carrying.
The relationship between these two is so easy, given their feelings and chemistry, and they're so perfect for each other.
I enjoyed that motocross was featured in this book! Along with learning about Kai’s past and his hesitancy in being more with Cordi for so long.
Thank you Jessica for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Coldwell world. I‘m a sucker for best friends to lovers, and Kai and Cordi proved to me once again that this kind of love is one of the deepest and greatest. Kai had me kicking my feet a couple of times and I’m really looking forward to seeing him and his brothers again (especially Liam) in the future. I really enjoyed the dark side of the book and at some points I wished it was just a little more but besides that I really loved their story and Jessica’s writing.
This book is perfect for you if you like: - dark romance - best friends to lovers - motorcycles - pregnancy trope - 3 hot men who would kill for the people they love
Please make sure to read the trigger warnings before reading!
This is the newest book by Jessica and I absolutely loved it! Kai and Cordelia have been best friends their whole lives but we’re never able to act on their emotions till now. I really love a best friends to lovers trope and this one had my heart melting 🥰 Kai is so caring and supportive of Cordelia and Cordelia herself is such a badass. It’s no wonder they fell in love they make a great team. A lot of great aspects of this book I enjoyed, the romance, the suspense, I didn’t want it to end!! I cannot wait for the next installment of the series!!
I really dug this novel. I like that it wasn’t the main characters involved in the mob but they suffer the consequences. It is a slower burn than I usually like, but the story captured and held me. I’m looking forward to reading the next 2 books. I was ready to start getting to know the other brothers. Great setting up the right amount of anticipation.
4.5☆ This was my first read by Jessica and wont be my last! I absolutely loved this, the characters, the plot and the emotions it drew out of me.
Kai + Cordi have known each other since they were teens and while they both have deeper feelings for one another Kai has kept her firmly in the friend zone due to his past and family ties. When Cordi finds herself pregnant, scared and alone, Kai steps up for her, claiming her and her unborn baby. Their story is heart warming, raw, emotional and will have you melting into a puddle while keeping you on edge with an element of mystery and suspense.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁: extreme sports, dark themes/morally grey mmc, friends to lovers, forbidden, accidental pregnancy (and it’s not his), marriage of convenience, billionaire brothers.
When Jessica labeled this as idiots to lovers, she wasn’t lying. These two are in denial about what’s between them and the mutual pining pulled at my heart strings right from the start. It’s clear they’re supposed to be together and I absolutely loved their journey. The seamless way their friendship developed into more was so beautifully done.
Kai is book boyfriend perfection. The way he steps up for Cordi and her baby with zero hesitation was everything and more. I loved how devoted, protective and supportive he was of her. Cordi was his perfect match, she was his biggest supporter and cheerleader, standing by him through every obstacle thrown their way proving that their connection was as strong as it was deep.
While this book is an interconnected standalone and doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, there is a subplot in this that is simmering away in the background. Jessica setup this series so well, I am completely invested in these characters and their stories. Now I’ll be here (not-so) patiently waiting for Liam 👀
Years ago, Kai's mother left her tyrannical husband, a politician with ties to the mafia. Kai and his brothers had to learn how to protect their mother and each other and prepare for the moment when the past would come back for them. This is the reason Kai can't get involved romanticaly with anyone – to not endanger anyone else's life. That's why Cordelia is out of his romantic reach. But not for long…
I would LOVE a Kai like that in my life. He was Cordi's best support, both as a friend, husband, and then also as the father of her child. It was so comfortable to accompany these two throught Cordi's pregnancy, with Kai giving two hundred percent. But before it got to this stage, it was hard to watch them both reject their love for years (as the author called, literally idiots to lovers).
For most of the book, Kai and Cordi are on the road due to his career. And even though I don't know a thing about motocrossing, the author explained everything in a clear and understandable way. As I imagined all the tricks Kai was doing, I felt as stressed as Cordi, really. With the sports romances on top, motocross seems to be something exotic, intriguing and great addition to the story.
Although there are not so many dark elements and the morally gray characters could have been a slightly darker shade of gray, I was grateful that the story kept a bit lighter tone. I was stressed throughout the entire book. It drained me emotionally, I was afraid for Kai&Cordi from the beginning until the last page. I had a million worst case scenarios in my head (which resulted partly from the nature of certain plots and procedures in romance novels), so the lack of certain obvious solutions was both a relief and calm before the storm.
Sometimes I had the impression that it was too long, but the further I got, the more I liked the idea of focusing on their relationship, on pregnancy and the feelings and fears that accompany it. It was a specific slow burn, but it perfectly combined angst with comfortable content. Can’t wait to read next books about next Coldwell brothers.
𝒯𝓊𝑒𝓇𝒾, 𝒟𝑒𝒻𝑒𝓃𝒹𝑒𝓇𝑒, 𝒜𝓂𝒶𝓇𝑒 “To protect, To defend, To love”
That is exactly what this amazing story and the characters created by Jessica have done. I have been overly excited about this release for several weeks and it did NOT disappoint. The time shift gives you glimpses into a history that explains Kai’s current mindset and hesitation and we get to see how these two meet and start, what ultimately becomes a friendship and love that saves both of them.
Cordelia is such a strong female character that isn’t afraid to show her emotions and despite all the bumps and circumstances that happen, it brings her and Kai together. I like how she’s represented, and we see her inner doubts and comparing herself to others, not knowing how Kai feels about her. I also love her passion for photography and her close relationship with her father.
Kai Coldwell’s story is one of strength, a survivor, and fighter. His inner battle and hesitancy to go after what he truly wants finally breaks and he allows himself the happiness that he had to put on hold for as long as he can remember for the sake of his family.
These two … sigh … so much time had passed before they finally said, “I’m taking the risk” and jumping all in. Absolutely no hate here, because we get to see the individual growth as well as once they get together, how strong they make one another.
I absolutely love the found family as Kai and Cordelia find themselves in one another and are each other’s strengths. Not to mention Kai’s mother and brothers, as well as Cordelia’s father make for an amazing ensemble of characters.
I laughed, snorted, cackled, rolled my eyes, squealed, sighed, smiled, cheered, held my breath and continue to hold out hope “For the girls that have had to smile while others got their happy, you’ll get yours one day, too”
It is a beautiful story and it’s only just the beginning!
"I think I’ve loved her since the first time I saw her. It doesn’t matter, though, because I can never have her. But I can love her from afar."
"I don’t think I’m capable of loving anyone the way I love Cordelia Quinn."
"Blood doesn’t matter to me, it never has, because blood, family, has proven to have no meaning to the one that it should."
𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:
Kai and Cordelia has been playing hopscotch with their feelings. One day when things come crashing around them a marriage of convenience might just finally push them together.
𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬:
Once again Jessica has taken my heart and glued more pieces together. Fighting For Light was pure perfection. The characters, the spice, the plot and the love *chefs kiss*. Jessica just knows how to write everything from cowboys to wild sports. I love it. Kai was the sweetest and silliest man I've read in a long time. Just wait till you read what this man does when shopping. 🤭 Then we have sweet but SPICY Cordelia. I wasn't expecting her at all but I loved it. The plot was extremely well written and laid out to where we find out much more in book two & three. I can't wait for those, I'll be waiting as patiently as possible for them.
𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬:
• Coaches daughter • He falls HARD • She's pregnant & it's not his • Marriage of convenience • Extreme sports • Found family • "My wife"
You know the tropes are like? Friends to lovers, Sports Romance, When FMC is pregnant but the baby isn’t his & marriage of convenience. What’s amazing? When all of them come together in a darker ambience with suspense, secrets and spice. This book is my first by Jessica and it for sure isn’t going to be the last one because the way this book got me hooked like an addict.
Kai with his brother and mom ran away years ago from the hauntings within their own family. They wanted to start fresh and that led him to extreme motorcross sport, where he met Cordelia. She is the daughter of his coach & everything he wants and can never have. Years later, there friendship is strong and stronger are the feelings but Kai knows better to drag Cordi with him. But then Cordi is pregnant and he knows he has to protect her so they decide to get married.
What I liked in the book was how they owned their feelings. The way Kai protected Cordi & the Baby made me swoon and melt. The secret? If like a book series like dark verse, this series might just be for you. This is the first book in the series and perfect buildup for the underlying storyline that will continue in the next book.
The spice and how he care for her? Chef’s kiss.
Kai is the perfect morally grey human with soft side for his mom, wife and obviously the baby 😭 Also can we talk about how fierce Cordi was? I love when the characters might not be dark but will do anything for their family and this book is filled with moments like these.
I enjoyed the book and can’t wait for the next one!!
Kai lives a bit of a double life and because of that he can't have the one person he really wants, Cordelia. His coach's daughter, the girl that he can't stop thinking about, but for her safety he keeps his distance and treats her like the best friend she is. The feelings aren't one sided as Cordi is head over heels in love with Kai, but she lives permanently in the friend zone, until one night, one kiss turns it all upside down. Now she is pregnant with someone else's baby and has no clue what to do. When she tells Kai, he surprises her by saying that he will take care of it, what happens when she learns he means he is going to claim the baby as his and marry her in the process? Is this a dream come true? Or will the other side of Kai's life come to the forefront and put everyone in danger?
So the pregnant but not his, is what pulled me in; I had to see what this was all about, and how that situation gets handled. This is the first of the series, but I felt like maybe I missed a story somehow, IDK maybe that was just a behind the scenes thing and we as the reader had to figure it out. I found this to just be an ok story and give this 3.5 stars.
Fighting for Light is officially out now! Thanks to Jessica and Enticing Light for the eARC of this book
Tropes 🏍marriage of convenience 📷accidental pregnancy (not his baby!) 🏍childhood friends-to-lovers 📷touch her and 💀 🏍dark(er) themes 📷billionaire 🏍extreme sports (motorcross)
Kai Coldwell and Cordelia Quinn have been best friends since childhood. As a professional motorcross player, Cordelia's dad is his coach, and they spent summers growing up together when Cordelia was in town. The son of a corrupt politician, Kai always kept Cordelia at a distance to protect both of them from turmoil and from his dad on having another pawn. Both have loved each other their entire lives. When Cordelia gets pregnant with someone else's child, who wants nothing to do with the baby, he immediately steps up as husband and father. Is this their chance at their HEA, or will it all come crashing down?
This is my first book by Jessica and I really enjoyed it! This book was a medium burn, and I was PATIENTLY waiting for Kai to finally give into his love with Cordelia, and it could not have gone more swimmingly. When he finally gave it, it was just fireworks, and so clear how much those two have loved each other since they were children. Both of them were so loyal to each other and it really showed in their relationship. Seeing their relationship grow beyond just friendship, into marriage and lovers was also just so heartwarming.
The plot was also solid. It was a bit slower paced than I had hoped and I feel like nothing much went down in plot wise. Like, sans the plot being the main reason why Kai tried to keep Cordelia at an arms length, I don't really know how much it really added to the story. I was expecting everything to be resolved in this book, but I really just need to read the next two books in the series to get the resolution that I'm waiting for!! Fred is going DOWN
Two absolute cinnamon rolls. If I could describe Kai and Cordelia. Yes, there's blood, yes, there are guns, and yes, their family comes from a dark past, but Kai Coldwell is quite the cinnamon roll man if I do say so myself. He is the king of words of affirmation and acts of service towards his sweet Cordelia.
"My need to care for her in every way possible has gotten so strong it feels like barbed wire around my heart, but I love bleeding for her."
Kai and Cordi have been best friends since they were kids and have been in love since the day they met. However, they are off-limits to each other. Kai hides his true feelings deep inside himself, restraining them because of the family he comes from. Cordi waits for him to make a move. Then, one day, she comes to her best friend, terrified and pregnant. Kai Coldwell steps up to help Cordi with everything he has when the father of her child wants nothing to do with her. "Will Kai and Cordi finally have their chance at forever, or will it force their hand in a war none of them asked for?"
What a precious love these two have. Oh, did I mention that Kai has brothers? I can't wait for Emerson's book!
this was my first time reading a book by jessica myel and it easily hooked me.
cordelia and kai have been best friends since they were teenagers. there’s always been that underlying attraction between them. for cordelia, her feelings are obvious, but for kai even though he feels the same as cordelia he won’t go there, because in his eyes he thinks he’s protecting her and keep her at arms length. there’s no question though that cordelia and kai have chemistry and an undeniable connection. their friendship was beautiful and once walls were torn down and kai let himself feel happiness, cordelia and his relationship was much more stronger. i loved their bond and how they were always there for each other and could always count on one another.
fighting for light was an amazing start to the coldwell brothers series. i need more and can’t wait for the next book!
*i voluntarily read and reviewed an arc of this book*
This was the first book I’ve read from Jessica and it didn’t disappoint.
I got my first tattoo yesterday, and while waiting I was reading this book. I wanna punch the baby daddy to be honest, he don’t deserve any happiness in this world. First few chapters and I know I’ll be attached to the Coldwell brothers. Heartbroken for Cori because she really tries to break the wall around Kai, but of course you cannot blame him for putting those wall up since he’s just protecting her.
I need a man who yearns, beg, not embarrassed to be pathetic, feral, STARVED to the FMC and Kai did not disappoint. I sometimes need a moment because It felt like I was interrupting and intruding on Cordelia walking this man like a dog. I have to thank @jessicamyelauthor because she gives everything that I want!
Writing did not disappoint, it’s easy to read and the storyline is fast phase. Cheers to Jessica Myela, your book made my heart melt!
Man, this book was wordy! Don't get me wrong I love the whole secretly but not really secretly in love with my best friend. There was a lot of drama & I'm not sure all of it was needed. The drama with Rafe, I get, but the dragged out drama with them? Her not coming clean to her dad, seemed ridiculous. If anything I expected Rafe try & get money from either her or Kai. Then there's the drama with the Dr. I don't think that was needed. It was just the one Dr visit, so what was the point? Next, the wedding. They should have seen that drama coming from a mile away. Where was the security? They had to have known he would show up! He's all about the "family" image. Seems pretty obvious to me! Aside from all that & the typos, this book was still pretty good just felt real wordy, like this review. Lol. I don't think I'll continue on with the series. Would I recommend? Maybe if you like long drawn out drama? On to the next!
Kai and Cordelia are such idiots to lovers and hear me out. Jessica Myel the author used that trope and it intrigued me from the beginning. Kai and Cordelia have been best friends since they were young always spending every minute with each other that they could. But Kai being on the team Cordelia dad coach’s is what keeps them apart. Until something happens 😱 And the love that they have for each other is so special and the banter and flintiness that they share with each other is so fun and angsty. The storyline was great I really liked that you could to see a glimpse of the Coldwell brothers as a family and how Cordelia fits so well into their life. The love and passion they have in their relationship is beautiful and I can wait to see where Jessica takes this trilogy. You have to check it out for yourself!
Reading Gem and Kai's story brought me to tears. The two couples have been together through so much and faced numerous challenges, yet their bond remained unbreakable. I wasn't happy with Kai's father, whose actions and attitudes caused significant strain. However, it was incredibly touching to see how much Kai loved Cordi. I adore how Kai accepted the baby as his own, showing his deep capacity for love and commitment. This story moved me deeply, highlighting the resilience of love and the strength of their relationship despite the many obstacles they encountered. The emotional journey of Gem and Kai is a testament to the enduring power of love and loyalty.
This is the first in a new series, and this is Kai and Cordelia’s story. Kai is the golden boy of motorcross, who is the son of a corrupt congressman, and has been best friends with Cordi since the moment they met, while she is the team’s photographer, and the coach’s daughter. When Cordi needs help, Kai steps up to the plate to help her. This is a well written story which has family, friendships, angst, marriage of convenience, off-limits romance, best friends / lovers, twists, humor, witty banter, tad suspense, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and spicy, dark sports romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Fighting for Light is an incredible book. It has romance, dirt bikes, morally grey men, suspense, and just an overall amazing story. Cordelia and Kai are one of my favorite couples I’ve ever read. The way they sacrifice for each other and love each other is so endearing and had me clutching my chest so many times. The writing is excellent. I felt drawn into the story. I felt the emotions of the characters. I was on edge several times and could not stop reading! This was my first book from this author and will definitely not be my last.
This book was unique and interesting with a MMC that was a super cross motorcyclist. I can’t say I’ve read a book about that! It is very long but the plot thickens and keeps you on your toes it’s moderately spicey and was definitely morally grey. I enjoyed it enough that I didn’t put it down. I would say that if you don’t like a plot this is not a book for you. happy reading!
yall!!!! you need to run and grab this book!!! it is about friend who aren’t suppose to fall in love and Cordi becomes pregnant and her best friend steps up and takes care of her and the baby that isn’t his while he has all his own family stuff going on omg sooooo good. @jessicamyelauthor YOU DID IT AGAIN GIRL!!! 🔟🔟 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
This book had potential but at 48%, I had to mark as DNF. The main characters drive me crazy and not in a good way. Saying “I love you” to avoid any real communication for every little thing, is absolutely frustrating. I was going to skim to the end because I was/am curious how the book ends but I will not waste my time that way and I’m just going to move along.
45% in I do plan on going back and reading the next two books with the other brothers. I wanted to love this one but the insta love wasn’t for me unfortunately.
