I assumed this book was going to be similar to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in terms of the way it was written. It wasn’t. Instead of mashing two genres together, it leaves the original text exactly as it is and merely inserts new scenes or sentences throughout the book. This review may seem like I’m bashing the book because I’m an English major or because of what the book is on principle, but it’s really just because the book doesn’t work. It didn’t occur to me until I started reading it that it would be difficult/impossible to add these parts but it is. If you’ve never read Wuthering Heights, about 85% of it is told to Mr. Lockwood (aka the audience) by an old housekeeper. While the original text itself does stretch what the housekeeper could and couldn’t have seen/known, the added text stretches the believability pass the breaking point. I highly doubt a Victorian couple would just forget that their housekeeper is in the room and start going at it. And since there are so few opportunities for the author to add naughty scenes, at least a third of them are just dreams.

Side Note: The English major in me is happy that this book exists because it means more people will be reading a classic work of literature...at least I would be if the changes WEREN’T IN BOLD FACED TYPE! Yes, you read right. The scenes and sentences that have been added are all in bold. Now this may seem like a good thing because people will know what parts are original and won’t be ignorant of the text (and in a way, I support this), but this just makes it easier for people to flip pass the original text and go straight to the naughty bits. And you know they will.

Book 3 for book club with Morgan:)
I clocked it right in high school - this book isn't very good. And the added sex scenes didn't help since they were all unrealistic, voyeuristic fantasies.
The entire plot felt futile - the romance between Catherine and Heathcliff which was supposedly the central crux ends halfway through the book. for me, then, there was not enough resolution of their characters (Heathcliff just becomes a villain then dies) nor a satisfying shift to the next generation, to make the plot really land for me.
It's like a long-term slice of life of a bunch of bad people I can't root for. And the naming conventions! Dear god! Two Catherine's and three major characters whose names start with H. Makes me wonder why this is a classic.

I would not want to read this version. It was pointed out to me in English class (many, many years ago) that the subtext to the original book is that Heathcliff and Catherine are probably half-siblings. Heathcliff is suddenly and inexplicably brought home by Catherine's father as an older foundling, but probably was her father's by-blow. There was good reason why Emily Bronte kept them apart.

This was my 3rd attempt to read the classic and I had hoped that it being a Wild and Wanton edition that I would enjoy it better. Sadly this was not the case. The original is as it always was, boring and drawn out (personal opinion) and the additions were boldfaced and plugged in and most of the time did not mesh with the story at all. I did however finally finish the book.

Just don't. It got one star because someone committed time and effort to write it. Another star for some sex scenes. That is all.

If you are a fan of Wuthering Heights, which so many are, you may really enjoy this. I love Pride and Prejudice and had fun reading its Wild and Wonton version. But Heathcliffe and Catherine just didn't do it for me.(or any of the others in the house) -even with some pretty awesome sexyness thrown in.

I love this classic story! The insatiable desires these characters displayed in this version definitely add spice to the story. Instead of forming these parts of the story for oneself in the original book they are added to this story from someone's unrealistic imagination. This book is highly entertaining though!

To say I disliked this book is an understatement. It pained me to finish it. Had it not been for the additions of Annabella Bloom, I do not think I could have finished it.
