From Lexi Maxxwell, the author of the stickiest, sexiest erotica on the web, comes a different side of life. Zach and Sam have a good marriage”"or rather, they had. Love, respect, honesty, and hot, sweaty, headboard-banging sex. But nothing lasts forever. Possibly containing more emotional ups and downs than any of her previous titles, Divorced is a bittersweet, touching journey of one couple on the way out.
Although I liked the overall storyline of Divorced, it took me a while to get into this book. The beginning I felt was slow and the characters (Sam & Zach) did not grab my attention. As I progressed through the story I saw how one would relate to the characters as they started off as young lovers in college, got married, and eventually divorced.
The ups and downs the couple faces are relatable from possible pregnancy/family planning issues, job choices, to being able to communicate effectively with each other. The story also embarks on personal growth individually and as a couple and how the characters handle change.
Initially I didn't like the end of the book where Zach & Sam meet. It felt forced and/or awkward to me. I also didn't like the dedication/inscription written by Sam for Zach- it left me feeling like there was a possibility of a reconciliation in the future which just didn't feel right for this couple to me. After rereading the passages again and other passages in the book, I see there is no future between the two main characters. The dedication/inscription written by Sam for Zach was beautiful and showed the lovely memories they would always share between the two of them. I almost missed a truly magical ending if I had not been inspired to take another look. Great writing Lexi Maxxwell!
This one took me a little bit to get into, but then I was hooked. This is a very touching novel, while still remaining hot and racy. Emotions are the center point of this novel. It is charged on many different levels, leading to a real experience. Maxxwell really conveys the characters’ emotions to her audience, drawing you in close for one heck of a ride. I quite enjoyed getting to know the characters over a period of time. You not only saw where they came from but how they got where they are now. The characters themselves are a little hard to connect with at times, but they are quite well suited to the story itself. Based on their characteristics it’s easy to see why things happen the way that they do. My biggest peeve was actually the ending. I almost felt like the author was trying to give the reader some sort of a HEA, which really didn’t fit with the rest of the story for me. Sure, it was later in life for both the characters, but bringing them back together like that was just awkward for the characters.
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
This book was an emotional ride. One I have been down myself so I really felt all the emotions from these characters. Lexi Maxxwell did a fantastic job in creating them and allowing us to follow along their lives.
Young love is always so exciting and new and intriguing. We believe we are invincible but have no idea what the real world can do to our hopes and dreams. We can't forsee what the future will be when we actually grow up. Sam and Zach find out first hand. Follow their journey and find out if their love is strong enough to hold them together or strong enough for them to let each other go.
