Handsome Elias Quinn, with his charming smile and cocky assurance, has skeletons in his closet. His father’s. As he travels back to his mother's hometown to make amends for his father's actions and rescue the town, he encounters resistance from Grace Martin, a gorgeous and feisty single mother. She wages war on Elias, her heart unknowingly becoming the battleground.
Had she misjudged this man? She couldn’t be sure. In her world, men left. That’s what they did. Why should she trust Elias, the son of the billionaire who single-handedly decimated her beloved town?
Observing his mother's suffering, Elias vowed never to wed someone from a different social class. It would cause pain and heartbreak. But Grace Martin and her little boy Miles might break his resolve and prove that love transcends differences.
It started off well, but then there was far too much arguing. I got tired of their constant conflicts. Every time I thought things would improve, that they would understand each other and at least have a proper, meaningful conversation, everything would fall apart again.
What really bothered me was how their relationship development wasn’t shown. One chapter they were arguing, and suddenly in the next they were together, holding hands at an opening event?? Where was the conversation? The understanding? The explanations? Where were the plans they were supposed to make together?
The ending felt rushed, which annoyed me. Also, the repetition of the same line — “Can you handle another surprise?” — was excessive; he said it more than six times.
The writing wasn’t terrible, but it felt weak.
They didn’t explain how they ended up together, or how she so easily accepted his wealth and everything he offered, after she had wanted to kill him and wouldn’t even accept him buying her a pair of shoes.
I did like her son and how he interacted with the male lead.
I also liked how the female lead influenced him, giving him a new perspective and making him start to take things more seriously.
I absolutely love the spunk of Grace and her never give up attitude in the face of diversity. Miles gets a true eye opening experience once he meets Grace that will change his perceptions of people and life. A thoroughly enjoyable book to read and HEA. I received an advance review copy and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received an Advanced Reader copy for my honest opinion. This is a sweet story of redemption and second chances. Elias, the billionaire, and Grace, the single mother clash over the community center. Different viewpoints affect decisions. The town is struggling. Can Elias bring it new life, or destroy the charm? This is my first book by this author.
This was such a great, entertaining read! Grace is quite feisty and pretty funny at times! Elias is really a great guy who gets entranced by her despite all the trouble she is causing him! Really a wonderful storyline and a fantastic end!
