The year is 1888; Copper is a young widow with a baby trying to make a go of the ramshackle farm she received from her father in Troublesome Creek. Copper's life seems as dilapidated as the farm as she struggles to come to terms with her shattered world. Desperate to rekindle the easy faith she had as a child, she searches for peace and God's direction in the serenity of the Kentucky mountains. Further complicating her life is a budding romance with John Pelfrey, Copper's long ago sweetheart. Once sure she could never love again, Copper gives her heart to John only to face betrayal. A skilled midwife, Copper is challenged in many ways as she ministers to the women of eastern Kentucky. Always a believer, Copper still has much to learn as she grows in wisdom and in faith.

Torrent Falls by Jan Watson
Genre: Historical Fiction, Christian Fiction
Format: Kindle
Timeframe: 1886-
Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Characters:
Copper Brown Corbett: Main character AKA Laura Grace Brown
John Pelfrey: Childhood friend who loves Copper like none other
Remy Riddle: Childhood friend believed dead
Darcy and Dimmert Whitt Two young people sent to help Copper

Third book in this Troublesome Creek series and we’re back up in the hills. Lexington was just not Copper’s home. Although she made some lifelong friends in Lexington, the draw to Troublesome Creek was too great. Copper needed to heal and raise her baby on the farm her parents left to her.

Here Copper renews her childhood friendships and two special people from her past come looming into the forefront, awakening such joy she thought she’d never feel again, but also deep sorrow. Copper keeps her hope in God and believes whatever the Lord wills is what she will accept.

Again, sweet book with many lessons of faith. My only confusion was with one character in particular that Copper believed dead and was convinced was in heaven because they had talked, and she knew she believed in her own backward and curious way. Then later on, that same character, now found alive was lead to the Lord by someone else, something for which Copper said she tried but wasn’t able to convince this character…. How does someone go to heaven when Copper admitted she couldn’t get her to accept the saving grace of Christ? I think the author needs to go over those two contradictory sections. Ah well, that wasn’t enough to make the book any less wonderful, just an observation. Oh, and by the way, the title comes from the falls where someone was supposed to have died, changing the lives of two beloved characters.

Worth the read! Now on to other books by Jan Watson. Loving them all.

Last in the series. I liked the ending but I didn't. I like happy endings, but she's a little abrupt with it. I felt like, "Sheesh lady, I just read your three-book series and that's all you can give me at the end."

Third and last book in the series, and I didn’t want to see it end. Copper is still the best character, faithful and full of grace in the face of adversity.

Copper and toddler Lily Grace return to Troublesome Creek as she takes over the homestead her father left her.

She continues to "collect" people around her. It was nice to revisit former characters and meet new ones. I liked the contrast of the simplicity yet hard life of living in the mountains compared to the city life.

As the final book 3 in this series, I thought the storylines all wrapped up nicely and had closure but the end was o.k. yet abrupt. Maybe it suited the lifestyle of the mountains which will help it sit better with me?

It's hard for me to say if this was too much a page count or not because I couldn't put it down yet still seemed long to finalize storylines. Yet there could be more to the series with other characters and continuing the life built by Copper and now with John. I could see this being a mini-series.

A good read. Copper returns to her home at Troublesome Creek after her spouse dies. She is still struggling with her grief and making a home for her and Lilly. Will she be able to make it in her old home in the mountains and restore her faith in God? Will she be able to help the women in the mountain as a skilled mid-wife? Will she be able to restore her friendship with her childhood friend John or will circumstances prevent them resuming their friendship.

Heartache and Happiness

I couldn't put it down! Hearing of all the sadness and pain that Copper has to endure would be more than most people could handle. Joy comes in the morning! And her faith keeps her going. That, and her mountain family that she keeps collecting! Can't wait for the next one!

Absolutely loved these books!

I only give 5 stars to the very best books that I hate to end and probably will read again in the future...this and the two previous books fit that description! I really love each of the characters, the beautiful descriptions of the mountains, and most of all, the faith reflected in these characters lives...a must read!

Wonderful

I love these people, and don't want the story to end. I that this is the last book in this series!
It's all so real that I can see the rooster, and hear him crowing in the morning, and almost smell the coffee.

Very heartwarming, some humor, some struggles, lots of love.

The only mention that this is the third book in a series is on the back cover in the second paragraph about the author; not exactly obvious. It didn't seem important to have read the other two novels prior to this novel, which is a long drawn-out read with a weak ending. The slow pace fits the setting, but it makes for a tedious read.

The final in the series, I enjoyed this story very much. Simple but hard life and lovable but complex characters made for a good story. Copper inspired me with her willingness to do for others and i'm glad it ended happily for her. I would have loved a few more pages at the end though...

What a wonderful testimony

The characters come to life and I felt as though I could be a part of the story, revealed faith through God’s word, touching the lives of the most unlikely to accept the truth of the ord.
