An Assassin and a Blade. A human and a Drexian. High-born and working class. Will choosing each other be our ruin? The cocky, high-born cadet is everything I despise and nothing I need. So why did I agree to his deal?Because it wasn’t a deal, it was blackmail. The arrogant Drexian gave me the choice—throw my friends under the bus or tutor him. Easy choice, even if I suspect he wants more from me than my brains. Just as I’m getting accustomed to the ancient alien academy and what it means to be a member of the School of Strategy—also called the Assassins—I’m forced to secretly coach a Blade after hours. And I know better than to go back on our deal. You don’t cross the Blades. But when our lessons take a steamy turn, can I keep my head in the game—and my heart out of it? After all, a hot, brawny warrior like him wouldn’t fall for a brainiac like me, would he? Then again, maybe he’s the one who should be worried about his heart. You know what they say. Beware of the Assassins.
Loyalty is the second book in Tana Stone’s Warriors of the Drexian Academy series, contains an HEA, and will leave you wanting more cunning Assassins, badass Blades, brilliant Irons, and daring Wings.
I love sexy aliens and independent heroines. I grew up on Star Trek: Next Generation and Star Wars (and I adore them equally). My favorite superhero is Thor (with Aquaman a close second because, well, Jason Momoa), my favorite dessert is key lime pie (okay, fine, all pie), and I still lament the loss of Firefly.
I live in North Carolina in the US and have one husband, two teenagers, and two neurotic cats. I sometimes wish I could teleport to a holographic space station like the one in my tribute brides series (or maybe vacation at the oasis with the sand planet barbarians). :-) When I'm not writing, I love to paddleboard, dive, travel, and read obsessively!
Ohmygosh Tannnaaaa. I freaking love this battle school that you have created! I love that the main characters had baggage that they had to address in order to make their HEA work. Because honestly, who doesn’t have baggage in real life? I loved that you still got to see all of the characters you met in the first book of the series, and got to know others much more deeply. And when Torq started throwing out pet names I was done for. In the best way. I flew through this, I absolutely love this series!
Jess survived the trials and was now a member of the Assassin class in the Drexian battle school. She’s used her smarts to run far and away from the dying small town in the Midwest and her alcoholic mother. She used her intelligence and always following the rules, going from ROTC through the military and now to the Drexian battle school. But now that she’s made it here, that Alphahole Upperclass Drexian Torq is blackmailing her for tutoring lessons. He irritates her to no end and won’t leave her alone. Better to give him tutoring than be kicked out of the school, though, right?
Thank you to Literally Yours PR for the copy, all thoughts are my own.
This story had the perfect balance of love, real life issues, spice, humor, danger and intrigue with intense, strong and passionate characters. Jess and Torq’s opposites attract, human-alien, forbidden, virgin romance was a wonderful addition to the series. The MCs are portrayed as real, relatable people who have flaws, but are really just trying to do their best as messy, flawed beings. Torq is a high-born Drexian who is attending the Drexian Academy. He relies on his physical strength and his status. Jess is a human military officer and now one of the first human and female cadets at the Academy. From meager beginnings, she relies on her brains. Following the trials, Torq blackmails Jess to teach him the Kronock language. Of course, the lessons are just the start of their complicated, evolving and ever expanding relationship. To get to their HEA, they will each need to deal with their fears and insecurities along with the danger that stalks them. Throughout the book there were several chapters from POVs other than the MCs. This added to the main storyline and helped the story progress rather than detracting from it. This well written alien romance included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. I am excited to read more in this new Drexian series and to continue the story arc about Sasha, the missing human pilot. 4.5 stars.
Torq and Jess have survived the first semester at the academy’s deadly maze. Now they are placed in two different schools at the Academy, one the Blades and one the Assassins. He basically blackmails Jess into tutoring him, just so he can spend time with her? He has a weird way of showing that he likes her. He is high born, she is not can these two get over their insecurities to have a relationship?
🔥 “You are mine, Jess. You always will be.” ~~~ Jess is so awesome! She’s brave, strong, courageous and so, so fierce. Even more, she’s resourceful, hardworking and brilliant. And she’s a loyal friend, too. Jess is a woman who doesn’t back down from challenges and is always ready to face all the hardships thrown her way, a woman who belongs among the Assassins of the School of Strategy. The feisty human is an amazing woman and I loved her so, so much!
And then, we have Torq - the high-born Drexian who I had mixed feelings about until almost to the end of book one. On the one hand, Torq was cocky, arrogant and entitled. But on the other hand, the cadet is honorable, loyal, fiercely protective, confident, brave and incredibly charming. And he fits so well as a Blade of the School of Battle. Even more… that filthy, filthy mouth of his! And his delicious dominance! Ohh, Torq is an absolutely incredible male and I couldn’t help but adore every single thing about him!!!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Jess and Torq! After the maze trials, they are chosen for two of the schools of the Drexian Academy. And the Assassins and the Blades are as different as Jess and Torq themselves. But I loved that despite being such opposites, they fit so well together! The high-born, badass bad boy and the modest, studious and sassy good girl. I just adored Torq and Jess together! I loved the tension, the banters, the teasing and the bargaining. And their chemistry was off-the-charts right from the start. I truly enjoyed every moment they spent together. Even more, I loved how much Torq grew throughout the story, seeing beyond his family beliefs and finding what and who truly matters. Jess and Torq were just so perfect for each other and when they couldn’t keep their hands off each other, the passionate moments they shared were scorching hot! Oh, I just can’t get enough of those naughty and dominant Drexians!
In addition, the storyline was incredible! With everything happening, the unexpected turns of events, the Battle of the Schools, the danger, the action, the unexpected enemies and betrayals and the preparations for a dangerous rescue mission, I was glued to the pages till the very end. And there are so many humans and Drexians I really want to learn more about!
Overall, the story is another outstanding addition to the series and I absolutely loved every page of it! And, with that epilogue, I cannot wait to see what happens next!
I was so looking forward to this book, especially after book 1! In book 1, I really despised Torq...until the ending. Tana already began forming his redemption story, and I was ready for it! Torq has been raised to believe that he and his clan are better than everybody else, so his arrogance and horrible attitude from book 1 was definitely expected in this book. However, after the trials Torq is beginning to realize that his family isn't as great as he's been expected to believe. The humans have proven themselves to be smart and more than capable, especially the human female Jess. Jess isn't sure if she should believe in Torq's new attitude adjustment. But something about him draws her in, and makes her want to trust him. Torq can't resist the pull he feels towards Jess, but he doesn't believe that he's worthy of her or that she would choose to spend time with him on her own. So the arrogant alien blackmails her into tutoring him. The more time they spend together, the more they realize that they want each other desperately. But this relationship is doomed to end before it even begins. Torq can't choose a human cadet for his mate, or his family will cast him out. His ultimate question...does his family deserve his loyalty more than Jess does?
These two characters are like oil and water. Torq is a bad boy who likes to bend the rules, and Jess has learned that to have anything in life you have to work hard and follow the rules. He's the burly, muscular, Battle warrior. She's the nerdy, academic, book worm. But these two have so much chemistry it's undeniable. I loved, loved, loved the changes we see in Torq. His inner turmoil and struggles with his view of himself broke my heart. The vulnerable side of him was heart stopping. Jess was so desperate to prove herself that at times I wanted to shake her for not seeing things that were so obvious with Torq. I also loved the overarching story of Arianna's sister and the search for her. Her chapter at the end left me wanting more! Overall this was a great continuation and I can't wait for book 3!
Since the Drexians and Earth are still trying to combine their forces and some of the humans were sent to the Drexian Academy to begin the integration. Some of the females were instructions like we saw in Book 1 with Adriana but in this book, we are following cadet Jess and where she ended up after the maze trials in Book 1.
Jess comes from a backwoods poverty area on Earth and has always been a nerdy type good girl following the rules and keeping her head down to make every effort to change her status. After the trials she ended up a member of the School of Strategy (aka Assassins) and she is super excited because she is smart and finally feels like she belongs somewhere. However one of the high-born Drexians that went through the trials with her group overheard the humans saying they got extra help so he blackmails her so he can spend time with her. Torq when we first met him was cocky, arrogant and entitled because of his clan status. However, he is drawn to Jess and he doesn’t understand why she fascinates him so much. We learn that his family has always been in the Wings but after the trials the School of Battle (aka Blades) approach him and he honestly feels like he belongs.
The chemistry between the two is hot right from the beginning and I love how they grow to want to be around each other the more time they spend together. But then when shy modest good girl Jess admits to Torq that she is a virgin, he shows a sweet side with being gentle with her while still having dirty talk and being dominant. Following them as the schools now battle between each other and twists/turns with other cadets keeps this book moving. I loved every part of it along with all the past characters continuing their storylines and seeing new characters come into play for future storylines. Can’t wait for the next book in the series!
This was fantastic, I would give it more stars if I could. I also think I will be re-reading it again soon, because it was just that good. I really think that Tana Stone outdid herself with this book, and really the series, because I loved the first book too, just so good. Fantastic and fast paced storyline, it will have you hooked from the first chapter clear through the epilogue. This picks up after the first book…and the dreaded maze, which we are all trying to put behind us. This book has a battle of the schools…you can imagine what a shit show that is. Torq was the arrogant cadet from book 1, and Jess the nerdy bookworm…her words, not mine. This is the book where the cadets find out what schools they’ve been invited to. Me, I’m in the assassin school, I know, I know, be jealous my peeps. And I can’t wait to hang out in the stacks…yeah, I just wanted to say that. There are some tutoring shenanigans, which is definitely my kind of tutoring…I said what I said. These two have so much chemistry, and I love their own self discoveries. They’re young, I loved getting to see them come into their own, and realize that family comes in other forms and doesn’t always have to be blood related.
Safe read, with a couple that has so much sweet chemistry. I think I may be doing some re-reads, just can’t get enough. I also really liked that we get chapters for not only the main couple, the cadets, but we get chapters and pov’s for others in the storyline. I loved it so much, it was very enlightening from some people. And, we get to see some of our favorites from other series…woo hoo, because stuff is going down, and I can’t wait. OMG…her epilogues, I just need more, and they always give you enough to have you begging for the next book. This epilogue, yes please and a hea.
An opposites attracting, forbidden romance in more ways than one for Torq and and Jess at the Drexian Academy. She’s a human, he’s an alien, he’s high born while she came from a small working-class town in the middle of nowhere. They’re even in different schools within the academy, Jess’ intelligence winning her a place with the Assassins while Torq had landed with the Blades, an elite fighting force but its still brawn that counts there and not brains but somehow they find a common ground once Torq realises that the lowly humans have earned their place at the school and do have a role to play in the battle against the Kronock.
This is the second book in the Drexian Academy series, and I’ve got to say I haven’t read the first book Legacy which I’m thinking I should have especially since Loyalty picks up the story after what seems to be a major event. It also would have given me a greater insight into the main characters particularly the hero Torq who undergoes what almost seems like an epiphany, starting in Legacy but what came to a head here when he didn’t fulfil his family’s ambitions for him. He started off as an arrogant badboy with blackmail on his mind but over the course of this book learns humility and finds a new family. While the spice level between Torq and Jess was low level, the dialogue was quick fire with Jess not backing down or giving an inch – she couldn’t afford to as she felt she had to prove she belonged at the academy. The story was engaging and the world building first class with all the usual trials and tribulations of college but with the added danger that if the tasks set by their instructors don’t kill you, a fellow student might. Now I’m off to read the first book to see just how bad Torq really was.
The privileged rich boy in this book develops nicely into a decent man. It's enjoyable watching him deconstruct everything he's been taught and learn some humility. The moment he figures out he loves her,
“I couldn’t imagine giving her up. I couldn’t imagine going without her. I couldn’t imagine how I would continue to breathe if anyone hurt her. I almost stumbled, catching myself with one hand on the stone wall. I did love her. I loved her obsessively, completely, and totally.”
Sadly this is painfully followed by the trope - I'm going to reject her to protect her - which makes her declaration of her love for him in the end perfectly understandable,
“Okay, I guess I love you, too, but as long as you understand that it’s against my better judgment.”
Our nerdy girl does a great job of training him to love girls who smell like books (which includes all of us reading),
“It was a scent I had smelled on Jess when she had come to me from a study session in the Stacks. I might have been the only Blade to be aroused by the aroma of ancient books and melted candles.”
Little irritated by the cover. I never like seeing women on the cover because they are almost always skinny and pretty even though we are told that the MFC is “average” looking. Most readers of straight romances are women and most of those readers are “average” because that's what average means. So stop putting traditionally pretty girls on the front. It ruins the fantasy.
The author gave us two teasers at the end. I'm sure the next book will be great but I really want to read about Sasha and the Drexian who finds her in captivity. Of course he's smoking hot as all the guys in Inferno Force are because, you know, they have to live up to their name.
Loyalty by T. Stone is the second book in the Warriors of Drexian Academy Series. Every book is about another couple and can eaily be read as a stand alone. There are 4 schools, Assassins, Blades, Irons and Wings. And neither school is rather fond of the othere three. But one assassin and one blade are about to change that, karma has a way to laugh at the end you wouldn't believeit. An fast paced, complex read that had me from start till the last page. Loved the twists and unexpected turns, the suspense. Blurb: An Assassin and a Blade. A human and a Drexian. High-born and working class. Will choosing each other be our ruin? The high-born cadet is everything I despise and nothing I need. So why did I agree to his deal? Because it was blackmail. But when our lessons take a steamy turn, can I keep my head in the game.. After all, a brawny warrior like him wouldn’t fall for a brainiac like me. Then again, maybe he’s the one who should be worried about his heart. You know what they say.
This story was such a great addition to the series. It had the perfect amount of danger, intrigue, suspense, betrayal, loyalty, drama, spice, blackmail, humor, romance and love. The storyline was incredible with well written and developed characters. I enjoyed reading Torq and Jesses story. They are both cadets at the Drexian Academy. The story picks up after the first book and after surviving their trials they are placed in different schools, there are four schools and none of them like the others. It’s a battle of the schools. Torq likes to bend the rules and is arrogant entitled and cocky. Jesse is human modest and sassy. I loved their banter their bargains chemistry steam and their relationship grow. Torq is from a well off Drexian family and relies on his status and strength. Jesse is a human military officer and is the first female/human cadet relaying on her brains. It showed that even though they were opposites they belonged together. It’s a fast paced complex read that drew me to from the very beginning and kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. It was an engaging story that I thoroughly enjoyed and look forward for more in the future.
I was given an advance copy of this book for my honest review and this is my honest review.
A wonderful read, great characters and solid storyline that keeps you engaged in full This was another wonderful addition to the series and I have to say that I enjoyed reading about Torq and Jesse who are cadets at the Drexian academy. This is all about a spoiled rich kid that believes that since he is in highborn position that most are beneath him. Jess struggles to be the best she could be to break free of the life sje led, she has been born into a modest home and has made her way into the Academy and was chosen for the flight school but because of and has also been chosen to be Blade after her success in the maze in the previous first book of the series. He started to realise that no matter what his family believes he has to live his life with honor and bravery knowing that he has done his level best. I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all their wonderful writing.
Wow! What can I say about this book? It was action and drama and high emotions from page one until the end of the book. Jess is now in the Assassin class at the academy, Torq is descended from the Wings in his family, but is invited to join the Blade class in the academy. These two are fighting their feelings for each other, forces are trying to keep them apart, but their love finally wins out. Vyk and Fiona are fighting high emotions and the end of the first semester at the academy is fast approaching with the academy races that each school will go against each other. Ariana is building a force to go and rescue her sister from the Kronock. But it doesn’t end there, we are left with a cliffhanger in Sasha’s rescue and a Drexian Inferno Force officer who is in the Kronock prison with her and a promise to rescue her.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and I am reviewing with my honest and fair opinion.
Loyalty is the second book in the Warriors of the Drexian Academy Series. This book continues off from the first book Legacy. However it can be read as a standalone. This book focuses on Torq whom we first saw in Legacy. Torq is the ultimate high born Drexian bad boy who's full of himself. He's that popular guy where rules don't apply. Jess, a fellow cadet, is that typical nerdy girl whose nose is in the books especially since she is an assassin. Torq and Jess both survived the maze trials and now are together to help in a mission against the Kronock. This was an entertaining read. It was steamy with the good girl Bad boy trope and changed my opinion of Torq from the first book. I enjoyed the different POV of multiple characters which moved the story along and set up the stories for the next books in the series. I am loving this Drexian Academy series and I highly recommend this book.
When young people leave the influence of their family for higher education they're able to develop their own ideas and beliefs about life and their place in the world. This is what Torq of House Swoll discovers in becoming a warrior in the Drexian forces. In his desire for a human cadet, Jessica, Torq tries to use the tactics that worked for him as an elite to ger her into his bed but he soon learns that humans aren't so easily influenced by the pomposity. The elite Drexians remind me of an elite group of aristocrats in another series that I read. Old money, a bunch of snobs. This was an interesting and enjoyable story but I really hate it when the MCs go on and on about not being worthy of eachother. I know that it happens in real life but this is Fantasy. I liked the change of scenery in this story where were able to "see" more of the terrain surrounding the Drexian Academy.
I absolutely LOVE Tana Stone. I'm so glad the Drexian world keeps going. Torq and Jess are cadets at the Drexian Academy. He thinks that since he is from a highborn clan that most are beneath him. Jess struggled to be the best she could be to break free of the life she led. She definitely wasn't born into an upper class family but she made it to the Academy and was chosen to be in the Assassin school. Torq's family had always been chosen for the Flight school but because of his actions in the maze in the last book he was chosen to be a Blade. At first he was disappointed but then he started to realize that no matter what his family thinks, the blades will be his family and he decides to live his like with honor and bravery. He basically blackmails Jess into tutoring him so he can spend time with her. Will he admit his love for Jess? Stay tuned......
Another great read. If you read the first book in this series, you'll have noticed a love-hate relationship between the two main characters. Just when Jess starts to relax, the past comes back to haunt her. Her relationship with Torq is set to derail again. Though they both come to a mutual understanding, it comes with more than they both bargained for. Their chemistry grows, but so do doubts. A wild ride has everyone on alert. More challenges ensue, and a toxic revenge full opponent creates more havoc and chaos. Torq's acceptance of his new role is endearing. Truly realizing his own worth made him a better male. Of course, with the help from a human female!

What. A. Ride! Loyalty took me on an emotional rollercoaster with how I felt about Torq. Sometimes I wanted to beat him black and blue and others I just wanted to hug him so tight! And Jess, so smart and so sweet. I loved the story of their coming together but what I really loved was the back story with the POV of other characters. I enjoyed the deeper view of the academy. I am really struggling with this review because I never want to give spoilers but I want to write this well enough that you run don't walk to buy his book! It is a gripping story, with amazing characters written by an incredible author. This series is so good! I really can't wait for the next book!
Torq of House Swoll has heavy expectations and rigid standards from his high class family. Jess has no status, just brains and a raging desire to make something of herself. Drexian Academy will make something of both these cadets, if they survive. Love will give them something even more, if they dare to embrace it. This second book in the series continues the high-stakes drama, deadly danger, and torrid romance that began Tana Stone's tale of the first human females to enter the all-male bastion of elite Drexian warrior training. And the glass ceiling won't be the only thing that falls.
When Torq blackmails Jess into tutoring him, neither of them realizes just how far it'll go. Can both of them grow past their insecurities to have a shot at a real relationship with each other?
The second book of Warriors of the Drexian Academy was as good as the first! This books shows us even more of life at the academy while including fighting, intrigue, and romance. It aslo shows everyone working on trying to bring Ariana's sister home. (It even includes some chapters from Ariana and Volten's POVs.)
Torq and Jess I'm loving this new series off the drexian aliens, they are so perfectly u perfect that we can relate to them. The real life issues just makes this story belivable and so cute. I loved how Torq even with his upbringing, starts to question his values and sees that status isn't everything. Jess is just the rigth human female to do that, She is from a family withouth any status and with her witts and smarts gets Higher and Higher on her carrer. I loved it and want more off this books. The feelings, the tension... Wow
This book is is full of suspense, danger, action, and heat. He is a sexy, entitled elite who has been rethinking his who upbringing since he almost died and she came into his life. She is sure he is a world class jerk until they end up surviving the trials together. Now they must survive the next Academy term as well as the battle of the schools. These are wonderful characters that go through a lot in this Academy. Drexians are so hot. I highly recommend you read this story as well as any other book in the series and the other books in the Drexian Universe
Long crazy road for these two cadets. I really enjoyed the overall storyline. I believe Torq had the most character growth, but each character is unique and had their own personal milestones. While the Kronock continue to be a problem, the students at the Drexian academy have so many things to contend with, most based on class and human/drexian differences. Even with the bride program the academy shows that old Drexian ideas persist and not everyone is on board with human integration into Drexian life.
Tana stone is an incredible writer.... I have all her books this is a new series for me and I waited for it for a while but I wanted to get a few books in so that way I didn't have to stop because she's so good I hate having to wait for the next book trust me when I tell you you'll love the series you'll love all of the action that happens in it it's so smoothly written that you can't put the book down get all her books it'll be worth it and they come in audible books too so you can listen to them while you drive
This was SO good, I loved it! All of The Drexian books are wonderfully entertaining standalone page-turners. This one is too! The Drexian Academy shenanigans continue to cause intrigue within the hallowed halls between the cadets as they struggle to find their place. Torq, a blade and Jess, an assassin can’t seem to ignore their attraction since surviving both the maze and prejudices real and assumed… I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
This is Torq and Jess's story. This is an opposites attract story. Torq is from an entailed Drexian family. Jess is from a poor Earth family. Their animosity to each other diminishes the more time they spend together. This story has everything, danger, romance and buff aliens. I loved Jess's character, her will to succeed and intelligence. I loved this story and look forward to the next in this series.
How can anyone have this creative mind? And talent to put the thoughts down on paper in such a beautifully fabulously fantastically way, I think that says it all, how I feel about this story. Drexian Academy.... well I am just sorry that I have already read all her previous stories so now I can only look forward to and wait for the next story. Fabulous five stars go to this story and if there were more stars they would also be included. I loved it and loved it and loved it some more
Jess and Torq have survived the trials and are placed at different schools by the Academy. Torq is from a Drexian high born family while Jess is human. He blackmails Jess into tutoring him, he just wants to be close to her. Jess is mad at being forced to help Torq at first but as things heat up between them, she develops feelings for him. Can the two work things out or will they be torn apart because of their differences?
This is the second book in the Warriors of the Drexian Academy series. Wow, Torq's and Jess's story is fantastic, loved everything about it, and I love the whole series. Great characters, a storyline that you can't put down, set within a world you can lose yourself in. I want a Drexian for myself.
I love Tana Stone’s books! This is the second book in the Drexian Academy series. They’ve survived the first semester’s deadly maze. Now they are sorted into schools. A highborn Blade falls for a human female Assassin and will do anything to protect her from a crazed Blade who seeks to punish him for a murder his brother committed. Can’t wait for the next book!
