"We don’t know where we came from or how we got here, but we know who we are.

We are the Flight.

We are not alone – there are others. And if we know it, then our enemies know it. The race is on, but we're not just the hunters, we're the hunted too.

We can't run – but we can fly."

Barely recovered from their recent escape, the Flight is under pressure from inside and out. Miguel has taken the name Condor and his loyalty is now unquestionable, but tension is quietly building between him and Hawk as they vie for Kestrel's attention. She refuses to tear apart their friendship – and the Flight – by choosing between them.

When Hawk disappears on the eve of the Flight’s search for the elusive White Wings, they have no choice but to begin their long journey without him. But are they flying into a trap? It's a game of cat and sparrow, and the Flight’s enemies – the malevolent Evolutionary Corporation and the fanatical Angelist cult – are waiting to pounce.

Captured, caged and confused, the Flight will never stop fighting for that second chance.

I'm not going to describe what happens in Second Chance because the book blurb and other reviews give you a good enough idea of what the book is about. What I will say is that Second Chance is one of those action-packed, un-put-downable books that kept me reading until well after midnight. I then found it hard to sleep from the adrenaline rush. My son picked up and read Second Chance as well, and loved it - in fact he barely spoke for the couple of days he plowed through it, and when he finally did it was to ask when the next book is coming out!

so, take flight got delivered last night and i finished it in 3 hours. cried 3 times. so, lets see.
the redesign of Evo corp, the cells, and the characters was very needed, and I felt sympathy for the blond-haired engineer who helped them escape (i forgot her name)
hawk. his torture and punishment by the Evolutionaries hurt, so bad. when hawk escaped (briefly) and shouted out to tui (who he thought was falcon) and she lifted her shaved head, I cried.
kestrel. oh my god, kestrel. I have so much sympathy for her; what she went through was horrific, and I hope the Evos who suggested that burn.
owl and raven. oh god. huge plot twist with the concisousness- transfer, pseudo brother type thing, and it was very emotional to read Owl's reaction to his 'brother'.
their escape; oh boy. i've never cried so hard at a book in my life when owl died, especially ravens reaction. I was okay with their death in third time lucky; it was a sacrifice. but this one was just bloody murder, and owl didn't deserve it.
jenny (a park ranger now, but her old vet job in a ranch factory town was still cool) who found the, and them going off into the distance at the end, leaving it open ended, was really great. take flight came out internationally 6 days ago, and I already can't wait for sun strike. i've been following jessica for coming on 5 years now, and having her books throughout middle school and now high school is great.

I loved the first book and I loved this one just as much. It's definitely far more intense than book 1, but that doesn't take away from the quality of the writing or the characters. Being a writer myself - if just a hobbyist - I know how hard it is to write that awful gritty stuff, and J L Pawley pulls it off beautifully. (Or, I suppose, beautifully in an ugly way, since none of those awful things could ever be called beautiful. But you know what I mean.)
I won't spoil too much, but this book left me in tears. A worthy sequel to book 1.

More and more crazy Orphan Ride/Max Black adventures to be had in this second story. The sad thing is, this is the last full-length novel in the series to be available on Wattpad - which is gonna be a problem unless I suddenly develop the ability to afford a Kindle, or various online purchases. (This is why I need to get my own story published, even though Pawley's suggested in her notes and journals on Wattpad that it's not a high-paying job if you're in the indie-book business like she is.) But hey, as long as she continues to publish the novellas, I'll at least be able to stay in the world of the Icari a little longer, which is cool, of course. :D

So, excellently done for this one - and for the love of God, literary agents of the world, take notice of this story already! This is part of the Holy Trifecta of Woefully Underrated Unpublished Wattpad Stories, alongside the Night Shift Trilogy and Chameleons. I might need to become a literary agent myself, if only to rectify the mistakes the publishing industry's been making by overlooking these stories.

Update: As of June 22nd, Pawley's in the process of uploading the entire Generation Icarus series, including the fourth book (Final Stand) to Wattpad, as she's entering all the books in this year's Wattys. Best of luck to her, then! She deserves to win. :D

The story is very interesting and it pulled me in just as the first did. I have been waiting for a series like this for a long time. I enjoy the individuality and real-life struggles placed throughout the story with the perfect combination of fantasy. I liked the fact that the heroes don't ALWAYS win. Sometimes, they have to lose and be patient to become stronger, and this is brilliantly displayed here. The story keeps you on your toes the whole time, and with every sentence you feel in tune with the characters; you feel their pain, their loss, their hopelessness, their fear, their anger, and their joy. Every kid wishes to fly. This series shows that dream as a real, sometimes harsh, reality. I can't seem to get enough of it.

Following its predecessor, Second Chance is an amazing sequel to First Flight. The Flight narrowly escape the Evos but Tyler gets captured by the Evos, which kept me in major, MAJOR suspension!! This book brings the adventures of the Flight to you, and be prepared for amazing journey through the skies with them. Perfect for adrenaline junkies, it gets your blood racing. Be prepared for an amazing adventure jam-packed with narrow escapes, countless plot twists, and tension between two hormonal teenage guys (ahem, I mean the very small love triangle). Must read for all ages!

An amazing sequel to go with an amazing series. This book not only continues the path of the Flight, not only #Hawkrel and ontop of that, adds even more challenges that make Flight who they are today. This book paves the path to the third book that will make your blood boil as you begin to hate the Evos more and more. So if you are a bird loving, teen spirited, and love drama, Stop reading this review, get the book and read it. Ready! Set! GO!

Adding onto the effect of the first book [first flight], this book rose tensions already created with the addition of a new member and the capturing, escaping and recapturing of the flight. With the flight on the verge of breaking up, it really set the mood for the setting, plot and reuniting of the Flight.

This book is amazing. It's almost as wonderful as the first, but that's probably just because the first in usually the best in any series. This book is one of my favorites and I can't wait to read the next two!

Once again, a great book that is hard to stop reading. A roller coaster of emotions being driven by the action that twists and turns through the country. Looking forward to reading the third story.
