As a fellow indie romance author, I know that reviews are make or break. Amazon won't get your book a good search with out a lot of reviews/ratings, or you pay for it. It definitely can be discouraging.
But I love to read, write the type of book I want to read, and only review Indie authors who I feel are going unnoticed but shouldn't be. So I continue putting out good indie writer karma by continuing this journey of choosing indie romance that pique my interest . My criteria has to have under 100 ratings/reviews, under 400 pages, no pandering shirtless covers, under $2.99, allows me to sample read a few pages and captures my interest in the summary which can be harder to write than the whole damn book.
I have to say that the first couple of pages I wasn't sure- thought ugh what's this character about but I kept reading and I am sooooo glad I did. I hit GOLD with The First Sun by Mindi Hope. This indie author could be a best seller and I hope that for her someday. This book has it all. Captivating plot, interesting dynamic characters (with my favorite style told in first person from both points of view), first kisses, second chances, friends then enemies then lovers, sizzle but with a build and not in every chapter. If you love contemporary romance, I absolutely recommend this book.
