They were two teenagers falling in love. One deadly promise changed everything. Eighteen years later, it’s still tearing them apart.

It's been eighteen years since Abby stepped so much as a toe onto Sullivan Farm. Since the summer of the fire that killed her beloved neighbor and friend, Mona. When she's called back for her twin brother's wedding, Abby soon realizes nothing on Sullivan Farm has changed, including the spark of electricity she feels at the sight of David McCann and that beautifully scarred lower lip that taunts her fantasies.

She’s been in love with him since she was ten years old. She just hasn’t been able to stand in the same room with him since that awful night. Maybe he is the only man she'll ever love, but he’s also the only person who knows the truth about how that fire started. After all, he helped her spark the first deadly flame.

David promised himself he'd stay away from Abby when she returned home. He's done chasing her. He's over her. Or, at least, that's what he tells himself. But when his obsessive ex-girlfriend, Nan, suddenly turns her focus to Abby, David is forced to set aside the years of anger and move into the guesthouse with Abby to keep her safe. How the hell is he supposed to pretend he doesn't love her when he can smell her vanilla shampoo from where she sleeps?

When Nan threatens to stop at nothing to keep them apart, the couple must finally face the feelings they left behind, the promise that destroyed them, and the secrets buried on Sullivan Farm.

Mindi Hope is a romance author who resides in a small town in the heart of middle America.

Having spent most of her life working in the field of criminal justice, when Mindi began writing, she expected to produce a suspense novel heavily based on police procedure. Instead, she fell in love with shaping the complicated dynamics of family relationships and love. In the end, while she was writing to make readers fall in love with the characters, she fell in love with writing romance.

In Mindi's free time, she enjoys traveling with her daughter, gardening, and reading, of course.

As a fellow indie romance author, I know that reviews are make or break. Amazon won't get your book a good search with out a lot of reviews/ratings, or you pay for it. It definitely can be discouraging.

But I love to read, write the type of book I want to read, and only review Indie authors who I feel are going unnoticed but shouldn't be. So I continue putting out good indie writer karma by continuing this journey of choosing indie romance that pique my interest . My criteria has to have under 100 ratings/reviews, under 400 pages, no pandering shirtless covers, under $2.99, allows me to sample read a few pages and captures my interest in the summary which can be harder to write than the whole damn book.

I have to say that the first couple of pages I wasn't sure- thought ugh what's this character about but I kept reading and I am sooooo glad I did. I hit GOLD with The First Sun by Mindi Hope. This indie author could be a best seller and I hope that for her someday. This book has it all. Captivating plot, interesting dynamic characters (with my favorite style told in first person from both points of view), first kisses, second chances, friends then enemies then lovers, sizzle but with a build and not in every chapter. If you love contemporary romance, I absolutely recommend this book.

Mind blowing

This book was hard to put down. The story line was so good , everything I love in a book. Romance, spicy scenes and thriller! I'm normally good at figuring things out but the ending blew my mind! You won't regret reading this book. I can't wait for her next one!

I love this book. I finished it today and I already miss it. I can't wait to read more from Mindi, her characters are so relatable and she crafts chemistry that is just delicious. If you like a little suspense with your romance, this is for you. I did have 2.5 of the 3 twists figured out very early on, I think she flashed her cards a bit, but I wasn't even mad because I was so invested in Abby and David. Read this book!
