Joanna Gilbert journeys to her father's hometown of Mystic Falls when he fails to return home in time for her birthday. Once there, she meets her older sister, Elena Gilbert, and realizes they share a face. But Elena isn't the only difference in town. There's Damon Salvatore, a vampire, who is looking after her sister.

Trained to hunt vampires, she has to quell her impulses if she wants to protect her family from the murderous Original family. When Klaus sets his eyes on Jo, she goes on the run with Damon to avoid becoming the hybrid's next victim.

Instead of running for the next few decades, Damon makes a call and turns Jo in a motel room a few hundred miles away from Mystic Falls. Suddenly the very creature she despises, Jo has to relay on him for survival and slowly begins to care for her sire until he betrays her again.

Now Jo has to decide between two evils if she has any hope of saving the shattered remains of her family. A final, heart-breaking choice will either tear her family apart or save them.

Born and raised in Maryland, T.M. Carper grew up surrounded alternately by water and horse farms. She has had pets ranging from hamsters and guinea pigs to two yappy Yorkies. No matter where her office is, squirrels can be found in close proximity.

T.M. Carper has a B. A. in Psychology from Hood College and currently works for the public library system.
