Do you need the pregnancy trope right now? Then go no further than Illicit Temptations. I knew I was in for a wild ride when the first chapter has two sexy AF MCs who hook up at the wedding of her sister and his best friend. They go separate ways, only to have to meet up a few months later when they found that not only did the condom fail, but her birth control failed.
This book is full of drama and heartache and plenty of spice in all the right places. This read was heartfelt and down to earth, and I will definitely be reading more of Katee Robert's stuff!
Thank you Net Galley and Publishers for letting me read an arc of this book in return for an honest review.
There's something about Katee Robert's books that gets me every time. I tear through them like there's no tomorrow. I've only read her dark olympus series, which is 10/10, so I was very excited when I got this arc because I've been wanting to read some of her other works. This is 2 books in one, part of the make me series, and both are quick and easy reads that pack a punch. Katee's writing is sexy and enticing but she knows how to write a plot. It hits you right in the gut with emotions. I love how it's more than just spice, but the spice is great too.
So book one, Make Me Yours, falls under the accidental pregnancy trope. Becka hates weddings and all things commitment because of her flaky parents and awful relationship they had. Being the maid of honor at her sister's wedding doesn't make things easier either but she's truly happy for her if not a little cynical. To take her mind off things she has a one night stand with Aaron, friend of the groom. A night of heat and passion end abruptly when the condom breaks. Becka runs out of the hotel room never to see Aaron again, or so she thinks. After he finds out she's pregnant he demands she move into his penthouse so he can take care of her and the future baby. He's stubborn and she's flighty but between bouts of sexy time they fall more inline with each other's needs. I usually don't like the accidental pregnancy trope, but I was more invested in their chemistry and emotional stories. The story went so quickly that a baby was barely brought up, only when the story needed it.
Book two, Make Me Need, picks up right where book one ended. Aaron leaves for paternity leave, so his sister is hired to be his partner's assistant at their cyber security company. Trish is the epitome of sunshine and rainbows, and Cameron is the world's grumpiest boss. Working close together has the tension and chemistry rising between them. He shouldn't want his best friend's/partner's sister, but there's no denying the attraction. She learns that he isn't always an asshole and he learns that her positive demeanor is a mask hiding all her other sad emotions. I liked that he makes her feel safe enough not to put her mask in place. I loved how she just puts him in his place when he does say asshole-ish things. He definitely falls first but he never holds her back from her dreams because he loves her, and they work it out in the end.
This book was like a spicy hallmark movie. It had me smiling, blushing, and almost crying at times. I loved how both stories melded together to make a great longer story. I can't wait to read volume two of this series and get to learn about more of the side characters.
**Thank you to Edelweiss and Harlequin for the opportunity to read this ARC of Katee Robert's book Illicit Temptations.**
I really enjoyed reading this book! You get two stories in one, with strong male characters and also strong female characters. The romance is always top notch! Katee Robert writes amazing romance novels!
I’m not sure why this book has such a low rating, but I really enjoyed it!
Illicit Temptations is 2 novellas in one book and both stories take place in the same universe.
Novella 1 is about Becka and Aaron, who wind up accidentally pregnant after a one night stand. I didn’t think I was into the accidental pregnancy trope, but I felt like reading a novella with this plot was a good starter point. You can tell that even before the sex, Becka and Aaron have chemistry and a connection. I also loved that they were sober when the sex took place. I don’t think I’d want to read an accidental pregnancy story that took place when the MCs were under the influence. This novella was very angsty; our girl Becka has some parental neglect issues that she’s working through while also navigating first time pregnancy and her feelings for Aaron.
Novella 2 is about Trish and Cameron. Trish is Aaron’s younger sister, and Cameron is Aaron’s business partner. Aaron and Cameron hire Trish to help with the client-facing part of their business. Trish and Cam’s story was the epitome of grumpy x sunshine with a splash of best friend’s sibling. I loved their dynamic and watching their relationship take root.
Both novellas were fun, easy, and quick reads. They’re both very spicy so if explicit sex isn’t your thing, don’t pick this one up. I really enjoyed both of these stories and will be picking up the next book in the series.
*Thank you to Harlequin for the gifted copy of this book.
𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴 Accidental Pregnancy happens to be one of my least favorite romance tropes, but I read this novella with an open mind. Becka and Aaron had amazing chemistry from page one and I enjoyed reading their story unfold.
𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 A yummy slow burn, forbidden, brother’s best friend novella. Trish and Cameron couldn’t leave well enough alone and stay away from one another. Their attraction to one another and magnetic pull made this one hard to put down!
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 = basically only smut but has an enjoyable storyline and character development
♥︎ Many thanks to Harlequin Books and the Harlequin Publicity Team for the gifted copy!
As much as I love Katee I am not the biggest contemporary romance fan. This book was 2 stories set in the same universe, one about a girl who gets pregnant and the other a boss assistant relationship and I honestly liked the pregnancy trope more. The second book got a bit annoying because sense she was his assistant and his best friends little sister they kept saying how the relationship had to end which was so frustrating because first of all his company didn’t have a HR department and his brother seemed like a chill dude so it wasn’t as forbidden as was lead to believe. The first story was super cute i would rate that one 4 stars I thought the pregnancy trope was tastefully written.
Fast, steamy and easy to read during a busy week. These Katee Robert stories are just what I needed. I enjoyed how they overlapped characters with the previous books and were just the right romance fix to keep me in books right before school started.
An unexpected little treat! This book was like a two for one special and much cozier than many of Katee Robert books I’ve read previously. The storylines had plenty of sweetness along with some extra spicy parts that kept the momentum going. If pregnancy tropes or brother’s best friend are your thing, you will love this book! These were quick paced while also providing enough detail to keep your interest. I loved that this featured people of color! I would definitely recommend this to someone looking to dip their toe into spicy romance without going dark.
I would like to thank Katee Robert, the publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advanced copy of this book!
Thank you Harlequin Romance for the copy of this book. - Read if you like: pregnancy trope, workplace romance, forced proximity. - This is two stories in one publication. The first story follows Becka and Aaron, who find out they are expecting after a one-night stand, and then Becka moves in with Aaron. The pregnancy trope isn't my favourite but I thought this was done well! - The next story follows Trish and Cameron. This was a fun workplace romance and I enjoyed it more than the first story! It was fun to read about Trish and Cameron and watch them fall in love!
I honestly didn't know that there were two stories in this book, so I was pleasantly surprised that I got two different tropes and while the stories were connected in a way, they were very different.
The first story deals with an unplanned pregnancy. While this is not my favorite trope whatsoever, the way the author integrated it into the storyline and how the the relationship blossomed due to the pregnancy was executed well. I would give this story a 3 stars! Like I said, the unwanted pregnancy isn't my favorite and I feel like it's overplayed sometimes.
The second story includes a family member from the first one. This trope was grumpy boss meets kind and sweet employee. When they go off to London things happen and a relationship of sorts begins. I enjoyed this story more than the other one. The only thing that I didn't really like in the story was that I felt like they fell in love too quickly and while it's okay to fall in love quickly, I felt like it was very fast. I would rate this story 3.5 stars.
For my overall rating, because we can't do half stars, I gave it a 3. I felt like there could have been more to each of the stories but if looking for a short, spicy read they were definitely perfect!
Thank you to NetGalley, Katee Robert, and Harlequin for allowing me to review this ARC!
It took me quite a long time to read this book, not because it was particularly long or hard to read but because it didn’t pull me in and make me want to keep reading as much as some of her other books. Usually with this author I can’t put her books down. I did like these two short stories but they didn’t grip me like her others. I also thought the stories were both very predictable.
Two spicy novellas in one book! Both are contemporary and have some minor overlap of characters but each is their own story. These are short sweet spicy stories and they deliver everything they promise.
This is a twofer book! It’s a republishing of the last two books in Katee Roberts’ Make Me Series. Neither story is particularly deep or life changing, but both are cute and steamy.
Make Me Yours Review: This book isn’t messing around. By the second page, our couple has met, developed instalust, and by page twelve- they’re down to business.
Becka’s heart has been broken (by the world, by her mother? Still unclear really) and she’s drowning the ugly in her head out with meaningless sex. You might think that being at her sister’s wedding might slow her down, but if anything it amps up her need to check out. She connects eyes with an intense and compelling man, Aaron, standing at the bar during the reception and there is an immediate heat.
One night of passion between them results in a pretty standard pregnancy trope between a rich tech dude and a broke, pragmatic, and emotionally unavailable personal trainer.
Things of course heat up, get emotionally tangled, and all work out in the end.
If you’re into quick romances, surprise pregnancies, protective/controlling MMCs, and angst- this will be your jam.
Make Me Need Review:
The second story in the duet follows Aaron’s little sister into her first day at his cyber security firm as the much needed front office administrator. She meets Cameron, his rough around the edges and socially impaired partner, and we are immediately moving full speed ahead into a grumpy/sunshine, boss/employee, brother’s best friend/baby sister trope.
Cameron finds himself gentling around Trish and feeling protective rather than annoyed and put out. Trish is quickly overwhelmed by intense attraction to her new boss.
Both of them make less than professional choices so that we can get to the goods of this story quickly.
If you enjoy protective stoic men, power dynamics, miscommunication, and 0-100 mph instalust- this story is for you.
Thank you Katee Roberts, Harlequin, and Netgalley for sending me the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Illicit Temptations, written by Katee Robert, is a two part novella book featuring two previously released titles, Make Me Yours and Make Me Need. These titles were originally released in 2019, this set will be released in September 2024.
The couple meet at the wedding of mutual friends and that leads to a one night stand. An oopsie with a broken condom leads to an accidental pregnancy. Aaron is instantly ready to make their situation into a HEA reality but Becka is hesitant.
Book 2: Make Me Need ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Trish & Cameron
Trish is hired by Aaron (MMC from book 1) to be the office assistant for his and Cameron’s cyber security business. Cameron is definitely the grumpy to Trish’s sunshine. I did enjoy the ending of this title, it’s very rare that we see a male character relocate to fit the needs of the female love interests career.
Both of these titles are good but I have to say that I much more enjoy her current releases to these books. I love her Dark Olympus, as well as her Wicked Villians, series so much!!
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this title!
I know I'm just being bitter, but WHY publish two books that were 4 previously published novellas....and publish books #3 & #4 BEFORE books #1 & #2. Im flabbergasted by that and don't understand this publishing decision?!
Part 1: Make Me Yours: 3⭐
💙One Night Stand 💜Accidental Pregnancy
I unfortunatley was not a fan of Becka and Aaron's relationship but is disappointing because I love accidental pregnancy books. The third act break-up/ resolution was meh for me. I really don't have much to say because I didn't like this couple and would like to move on lol.
Part 2: Make Me Need: 4⭐
I enjoyed this book more than book one of this duet set. I loved seeing Cameron's grumpiness melt away for Trish. I liked her finding her own as an adult in this book and the relationship was cute, and the perfect amount of drama for a novella this length.
💜Workplace/ Boss Romance 💙Co-workers Daughter 💜 Grumpy x Sunshine
Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin- Romance for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review
Make Me Yours (4⭐️) -Accidental Pregnancy -One Night Stand -Opposites Attract
I love a good accidental pregnancy story! Aaron and Becka were hot and I loved their banter! High chemistry with a swoony MMC, what more could you ask for? I liked seeing these two make plans for the baby and make space in each others lives.
Make Me Need (4.5 ⭐️) -Boss x Employee -Grumpy x Sunshine -Forced Proximity
Of the two novellas in this book, I liked Cameron and Trish best! Honestly I’m a sucker for grumpy men and workplace romances so I ate this one up in a day. Trish was very intriguing to me and I could relate to her plenty! Cameron was a surprise because I wasn’t keen on the story until I read it! The way he was gone for Trish stole my heart!
i think you should take my rating with a grain of salt, im not always the biggest fan of contemporary romance OR books with a pregnancy trope. i wanted to give this a try because i love katee robert but unfortunately the plot of the two novellas was a bit boring and the spice didn’t really make up for it. it was a quick little read of two novellas combined, one with an unplanned pregnancy and the other with a grumpy/sunshine brother’s best friend, so if that sounds like your thing you might have fun!
Illicit Temptations delivers two steamy stories in one book!
Make Me Yours is the first story- a one night stand with an accidental pregnancy. The second book is a forbidden workplace. The FMC in book two is book one's MMC's sister- which ties them together nicely. And I did enjoy them both. Quick and easy to read. A quick lust to love type of storyline too. They were light, straight forward, predictable... nothing super deep. Would I have liked more depth and development? Sure. But they were quick captivating spicy reads as they are-which can be the perfect in between read sometimes!
3.5 Stars ⭐
*Thanks to Harlequin and Harlequin Publicity Team for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own and given freely.
3.75⭐️ 2 stories 1 book. I liked both stories. Both had many of my favorite tropes. Enemies to lovers, he falls first, grumpy/sunshine, etc. The stories are more like novellas than actual long stories, so take that into consideration when reading. I enjoyed it and read it fairly quickly. The spice, the intimacy, and overall the MCs falling for each other. Chef’s kiss. You know there always had to be something holding them back. No spoilers here; read on and find out what exactly that is.
Maybe I’d feel differently about this collection of novellas if these particular 2 weren’t paired together, but alas: they are literally the same story, just slightly different flavor.
•both include instalust •both MMC’s work together so have the same job and both live in penthouses. •both FMC’s wear wild colored lipstick, avoid having serious conversations about the state of things like the plague, have a STRONG aversion to being told what to do, and have complicated relationships with their mother. •both MMC’s impress (?) the FMC with their favorite food multiple times and participate in an activity that she likes even though they don’t like it that much. •both FMC’s remark their surprise when the MMC manages to tell a joke.
Do we see what I mean? The first novella includes an accidental pregnancy while the second one is like “brothers-coworker-my boss” but with the arcs of each story basically being identical, I ended up spending most of the 2nd story comparing it against the 1st.
I received a free digital review copy from the publisher.
Obviously I had to read this when I saw it came out. Once again, Katee Robert has me squealing and kicking my feet! I love love love the relationships in this two-in-one book, and I CANNOT wait for the next one to come out! These are quick reads, took me about an hour/two hours for each story but are highly enjoyable with all the good feels ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin romance for this E-book.
Good loooooooord. I am clutching my pearls!!!! If you want a book with spice and little character building then these two combined books are for you. It was pretty much spice from the first page. The second book had a little less spice but who wants that….
Becka and Aaron are hot and they both know it. They both want each other and we all know it. Spicey things happen and that’s that!
Aaron’s sister Trish needs a job. And what’s better than a job with a sexy boss whose bones you want to jump. Say it with me! Nothing!!!!! Enter Cameron. The sexy boss where Trish now works. They want each other. Will they, won’t they? I’m sure you know.
Harlequin/Mills and Boon publish romance. Or at least they used to. I’m all for spicy. I love a well written sex scene which adds to the character or plot development. But it still needs to be romantic. This was about as romantic as a cold bath. I DNF after she moved into his apartment.
The FMC was boringly predictable - don’t get involved and then you can’t get hurt! That’s her mantra and she lives by it. She’s anti marriage, has unemotional sex, has blue hair, tattoos and piercings - how many more “independent, challenging and fiery’ boxes could be ticked? - it felt like the author was writing by numbers, and there was nothing about Beka that I liked.
I lost interest in where the story was going after she moved into his apartment. Pointless and adolescent behaviour on the heroine’s part, does not interesting dialogue make! I gave up at that point.
Also, the sex scenes were about as erotic as an IKEA instructions leaflet. When I think of sexy stuff written by Jackie Ashenden, Caitlin Crews and Clare Connelly - I could weep at the comparison. Sorry but this wasn’t my cup of tea.
Two love stories that were originally published for Harlequin and have a couple of characters in common. Otherwise nothing new or particularly different from the usual.
Due storie d'amore che sono state pubblicate originariamente per Harlequin ed hanno un paio di personaggi in comune. Per il resto niente di nuovo o di particolarmente diverso dal solito.
I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
