NOSE DIVE is a comic teen mystery about Celia Pratchett, New York City high school student, whose head is literally filled with the sound of music. Blessed with a huge singing voice but cursed with an equally huge nose, Celia is thrilled, at first, by the news that her school's annual musical is slated to be a TV reality show, until she realizes that huge noses and TV close-ups just do not go together. Hoping to change her life and profile, Celia follows her nose through danger, darkness, and fallen Goudas, trailing love, truth and the pursuit of harmony.
I read this young adult book at the request of the author, a fellow blogger friend/poet/author/artist. It's a long time since I've been a teen but it was so easy to identify with the protagonist and her angst about being popular, her "nose," her hopes. The characters are well-developed, the writing is delicious...laced with humor and crisp sensory detail. It read quickly thanks to an engaging plot. The book is illustrated with fun sketches. Highly recommended, especially for teens, but also for adults who need a break, a light read, a smile and a happily-ever-after ending.
