The only thing worse than having no family at all, is having a family that is out to hurt you. That would all be bad enough for a normal 17-year-old, but it's even worse for Alec Graves. A shape shifter's pack, his family, is the only thing stopping the other preternatural creatures out there from killing them.

Alec's pack isn't just neglectful, he's pretty sure that his father wants him dead. Alec is about to be sent to the front lines of a war between his people and everything else that goes bump in the night. His only chance of survival is to convince everyone around him that he's the perfect soldier, but there are lines that Alec won't cross, not for any price.

Publisher's Note: Dean Murray's ongoing Reflection Series has been a stunning success with hundreds of thousands of copies in circulation, and a rich, complex world where choices—right or wrong—have real, profound consequences. Unsatisfied with the restrictions imposed on him by writing inside of the conventional series structure, Dean has returned to Sanctuary and the characters so many fans have fallen in love with.

Bound is the first in Dean's new Dark Reflections novels, an alternate timeline set in the same world and featuring many of the same characters, but with a profoundly different backstory.

Dean finally answers many of the questions that his most dedicated readers have been asking themselves for years. What would have happened if Alec's father hadn't been murdered by the Coun'hij, how would Adri's life have changed if her family hadn't been shattered in a horrific accident?

The answers may surprise you, but one thing is for sure; you'll see new sides of familiar faces and when all is said and done, you'll never be able to look at some of them the same.

Readers new to Dean Murray's writing can start with Bound in the Dark Reflections Series or Broken in the Reflections Series.

I received this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

As you may be aware, I am a Reflections Fan. I read book one and was drawn in. By book 2 I was completely hooked and just found myself further enthralled with Alec and Adri as the story continued. So I'll admit to being torn about this set. I loved Reflections and wasn't sure if I even wanted to read an alternate storyline. But then my curiosity kicked in and I started reading it. As always with Dean Murray's books, I ended up staying awake a lot longer than I intended as I "just read one more chapter".

The story is certainly darker than the original series, hence the "Dark Reflections" series title. You see familiar faces in unfamiliar conditions and surroundings. Some of the things that happen in Reflections don't or haven't happened here. On the whole, it is a brand new look at the wolf pack of Sanctuary and of the shifter world in general.

I really enjoyed this book, almost against my own desires, and am looking forward to reading more in this series. I think it will be very interesting to find out how Adri and Alec will meet up this time. If you like Reflections, then definitely give Dark Reflections a chance.

This is the first time reading anything by this author and really enjoyed it. I normally read paranormal romance and thought this was one of them (have too many kindle books haha). I was confused as I continued on but it was so interesting that I found myself having difficulty putting it down. It's hard for the reader to become bored because there is plenty of action! I look forward to reading the next in the series! :)

If I'd never read any out the reflections series, this would probably be more a 4 star book, it's major failing being that these characters seem in their 20s yet we occasionally get hints they are really in their teens.

Now add the information established in the reflections series (which occurs chronologically after this series) and this goes from being a solid book to inconsistent crud. None of them are possibly young enough to be 17 during broken/torn. In reflections, Kaleb is long dead. Mom has been crazy since then, and that was implied to be around the time Rachel was born. The pack split is years old. James and his mother's relationships with everyone don't match. The inconsistencies go on and on. If I'd read this right after the books in reflections, I probably wouldn't have been able to finish this one, I'd have been so annoyed. Instead i was mildly irritated the whole read. The author should remember his own story better than I do.

A war is about to be waged in the oldest of oldest ways. Good vs Evil. You have your good shifters and your bad ones but who will win the war?

Alec Graves is tired of being treated second best by the bully Brandon and his lackey Vincent. But it seems his father doesn't care about him. Only if his power that's supposedly great will be of use to him and the pack. When he gets sent out into the field. He realizes just how mad and depraved of anything redeemable his dad really is. But what's going on behind his back at home will be the ball buster that will get him up and running against odds, that are not stacked in his favor. Will him and his small splintered pack survive?

I downloaded Bound as a free novel from Amazon. Wow! This could have easily been 'just another werewolf book', but Dean took this too the next level with excellent world-building, riveting characters, and tension-filled delivery. I had a hard time putting this book down and will eagerly read more of the series. Great writing and intricately-layered plots-within-plots to keep the reader on the edge of his/her seat. Highly recommend this read for urban fantasy lovers.

Dean Murray again pulls you into another fascinating world within a world.

I love both the light and the dark sides of the societies Mr. Murray creates. His characters grow in sometimes unexpected ways and the story is always taut and intriguing. I so wish I had known him sooner but this means I have plenty of books to enjoy!

Wonderful!!!

Loved the book. Werewolves, hybrids, vampires, you name it, this book has it. Not only is the story riveting, but the characters have you cheering for the good guys. The author said she shouldn't have written this, but if he hadn't, we would have missed a great story. Write more!!!

A paranormal book

Kaleb leads the largest wolf pack in North America and is determined to hold power. Brandon is one of his most lethal fighters. Alec and Brandon are suppose to have some extraordinary power. But Alec's power has yet to manifest and as Kaleb's son that is underwhelming. Alec and his friends find out some truths that change everything and will lead to more than one power play for control. The book held my interest but seemed over explained in some areas making it a little long winded.

Action packed

Wow, reading this after Broken and Torn really makes you think. I loved seeing this version of Alex, but my brain wants to know what changed Kaleb? The confrontation never happened his change was before..........Mallory was different than what I would have thought also. Sad that Isaac and Dominic aren't around.
