In the year 2508, humans are relegated to third class citizenship in a totalitarian world controlled by demons. Lord Katashi Takumashii rules Japan, China and Korea as Daiyoukai of the Western Japanese Protectorate. He uncovers a plot by malcontent demons to usurp his rule of China. The handsome but ruthless demon lord realizes he can't bring this plot into the light on his own and enlists the aid of a cage-dancing waitress working at his brother’s nightclub as the “honey pot” to flush out the conspirators...by any means necessary.

Hikari Shimazu is a human woman taking care of her family as best she can while living in this demon-controlled world. She's beautiful, kindhearted, and far more intelligent than the demon lord realizes. Understanding how valuable she is to the Protectorate, she agrees to help him, but only if he’ll improve the lives of mankind. Both stunned and impressed by her wily ingenuity, he reluctantly agrees to her demands and together they form an uneasy alliance. With the help of his hanyou half-brother Tomoya, they set off to discover the main players in the game and in the process deal with their mutual attraction to one another.

Unbeknownst to Hikari, she has a few secrets of her own and when she discovers her true identity, her tragic destiny could destroy them all.

About the author

Nila N. Brown (August 30, 1965) was born in St. Louis, Missouri. Starting out as a fan fiction writer, she transitioned to original works in 2012 with "The Cold Darkness of Night," "The Mirror's Edge (available on Smashwords) and a 2,000 word short story "Blue Caladium" for the inaugural edition of the Kingdom of Fantasy Magazine available on iTunes. Her current book, "Kurai Utopia Book One: Journey of the Damned" is available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle version. "Kurai Utopia Book Two: Ignition" and "Kurai Utopia Book Three: The Other Side of Time" will be available by the summer 2014. An avid reader since she was a little girl after discovering "Thirty-One Brothers and Sisters" by Reba Paeff Mirsky, she wrote her first play at the age of 12. Future endeavors include the Eloen Witch Chronicles, the Crystal Sprites Series and a demon romance fantasy novel featuring the characters from "The Mirror's Edge."

She currently lives in Roswell, Georgia with her nursing student daughter Charlene, who as of 2014 has not mastered the fine art of cooking anything.

This grabs your attention and does not let go! You want to continue. Political intrigue in a Utopian society? Does the one who rules really understand what goes on beyond his white tower? It's the imperfection of perfection that will grab you if you think on that level.
