For those who've read any of Farland's other writing-instruction books, the first quarter of Write That Novel! will feel horribly repetitive. Even the cited examples are the same. At that point, I would have been hard pressed to even give it three stars.

But this book is effectively a version of a writing course Farland has given - his teaching notes, or a transcript (it even includes mentiones to a few days ago/last week)… And after the basic introduction, it picks up a gear, laying out solid, practical advice that is, at least for the most part, clear and presented in fresh packaging. Some elements even include twists I've not come across anywhere else.

It was mostly a review of Million Dollar Outlines, but the ideas are still good.

Some good ideas I will put into practice. But when it comes down to it, I don't think I will ever be an outlining author, so some of it doesn't apply to me.
