When Mr. Wrong measures up just right!

College tart Felix McAvoy is used to causing a stir with his conceptual art pranks, but for his final show he’s planning something even more outrageous. In a last ditch attempt to seduce his jaded tutor, Felix plans to wear the canvas in a subversive display. However, if he’s going to do this right he’ll need a tailor-made canvas suit. Fortunately, he knows just the tailor to turn to for the favour—and Felix isn’t shy about offering favours of a very different kind in return.

First year fashion student Andrew Wheeler knows Felix by reputation only–and plans to keep things that way. Andrew’s determined to save himself for the man of his dreams, and Felix couldn’t be more different from his ideal Mr Right. There’s only one use Andrew will contemplate for Felix’s body: a model for his end of year project. Trouble is, it’s going to involve a lot of close contact with a nearly naked Felix, and Andrew’s never had temptation quite so close at hand!

Author's note: Tailor Made was originally published as an ebook by Amber Quill Press in January 2012. This second edition has had a fresh edit but the only changes are minor. Those who purchased the original edition are not missing out on any new material.

English through and through, Josephine Myles is addicted to tea and busy cultivating a reputation for eccentricity. She writes gay erotica and romance, but finds the erotica keeps cuddling up to the romance, and the romance keeps corrupting the erotica. She blames her rebellious muse but he never listens to her anyway, no matter how much she threatens him with a big stick. She's beginning to suspect he enjoys it.

agreeable good fun.

the hits:

- god bless big, lumbering, ruggedly virginal boys who blush like sansa stark
- myles has a real sense of sexy details, like the whisper of silk on otherwise naked skin
- low-angst, high-promise HEA
- fun art references
- really funny theater major joke
- did i mention the ruggedly virginal lad? i did, didn't i. *dreamy sigh* he's a designer, which struck me as passing unlikely, but fucked if i care. poor thing was sweetly overmatched from page five
- DAT COVER

the nits:

in all, a delightful college romance with super-sexy foreplay and only a little wobble at the finish.

recommended.

Though Felix annoyed me in the beginning and Andrew had a stick up his ass, I loved how these characters took their time growing on me (and each other).

Felix McAvoy is an art student who has eyes for his instructor, yet finds himself drawn to the blushing, inexperienced Andrew Wheeler, a fashion design student whose help he needs to complete his final art project.

I’m thrilled to know there is a sequel, because I’m dying to explore Felix’s and Andrew’s kinks that were alluded to.

This was a light, warm, funny and sexy story that is perfect for beating the winter chill.

Author’s Note about the second edition (out on February 10th, 2014):

Tailor Made is a story close to my heart in many ways. Not only is it set in Bath—a city I love dearly—but Felix and Andrew are both creative in ways I’ve explored over the years. When I was a teenager I was obsessed with art and portraiture, like Felix, but I made the mistake of choosing a college preoccupied with conceptual art. At the time the Young British Artists were making headlines all over the world, and while I dutifully went about trying to give the tutors the sort of thing they were after (ephemeral artworks and paintings of roadkill, as I remember), I resented the fact that no one was attempting to hone my drawing and painting skills. After a year I was thoroughly disillusioned and I abandoned my art education, choosing to focus on crafts rather than fine art.

Over the years I’ve experimented with many different crafts both as work and hobbies, but the one that’s given me most enduring pleasure is dressmaking. I loved sewing as a child, but gave it up at some point in my teens because it just wasn’t cool enough for a wannabe artist. I wish I hadn’t been such a snob because I missed out on the chance to study it in depth at college, but I’m now making up for lost time by pursuing dressmaking as a serious hobby. Fortunately, these days there are plenty of wonderful online courses and I’m making the most of them.

Writing two students following such different creative paths allowed me to draw on all my arts and crafts experiences and my own changing views of what sort of artistic endeavours are worthwhile. I don’t mean to demean conceptual art—it’s not generally to my taste, but I certainly do consider the creative efforts of Hirst, Emin, and the Chapman Brothers to be thought-provoking art. However, I also see great value in amateur watercolours, feltmaking, and the messy handprint pictures my daughter used to bring home from school. Anything can be beautiful when created with love, and all humans have a deep-seated need to express themselves creatively in some manner, whether that be through interpretive dance, cross-stitch, or Tibetan throat singing. Those who say one form of creativity is superior to others aren’t seeing the big picture, and should go and spend some time working in an art class with learning disabled students (one of the most rewarding jobs I ever did!)

I wrote Tailor Made during one hot summer, three years ago, before I’d had my first novel published. At the time I had no idea whether I’d be able to make a success of a writing career, but I was determined to give it the best shot I could. Amber Quill Press accepted the manuscript for their “Hot College Daze” line, and it came out as an ebook in January 2012. I wasn’t thrilled about the generic cover it was given and I’m sure sales suffered as a result, but the response from readers and reviewers was excellent.

I always planned to write a sequel in which Felix would explore his cross-dressing kink, but as my career took off I always seemed to be writing to a deadline for Samhain, and there just wasn’t the time to devote to Andrew and Felix. I shelved my plan, despite having a great outline for the plot and several key scenes in mind, and decided that I’d think about it again when the contract with AQP was coming to a close.

Now, two years on, Tailor Made has come out of that original contract and finally has a cover to do it justice, thanks to the talented Lou Harper. I’ve also had the chance to go back through the original novella and give it another edit before self-publishing. I thought I might discover a messy plot and ghastly prose, but while there were certainly lots of minor edits and word changes to be made, I’m still really happy with the story as it is. And I’m pleased to report, I’m still eager to get going on that sequel.

Custom Fit will be published in the summer of 2014. I hope that if you’ve enjoyed Tailor Made, you’ll want to come and join Felix and Andrew as the next stage of their relationship unfolds. Felix tells me they’ll be sitting around eating curry in their underwear, waiting for us all to join them.

Happy reading,

I really liked this story the first time I read it in May of 2013 and on the reread I loved it even more.

How much do I love when a character has to tell his dick “down boy” repeatedly? Felix is quite the party boy and on the surface he is cocky an overconfident. He wears those descriptors adorably though. Only Felix could flirt to within an inch of his life, swagger out of a room and then trip over his shoelaces. Nothing stops him from what he wants though and what he wants is his tutor Saul. Felix is in his last year of art college and putting together his final presentation. The school’s focus has moved away from the traditional studies of painting and drawing and has really encouraged the students to push the boundaries of conceptual art instead. On the surface Felix seems to be the golden boy of the art department. He’s got no fear and no shame when it comes to his art installments, but they have turned into pranks more than actual art and he is becoming disillusioned with the whole notion of the London art scene he is supposed to move on to. He’s been crushing on Saul, the bitter and condescending tutor for a long time and he needs help to pull off his final project with the hope that Saul will be so impressed he’ll finally fall for Felix’s charms. Or at least fall into his bed.

Felix needs a suit made for him and fashion student Andrew Wheeler is recommended to him. Felix has big plans to seduce Andrew into creating the suit for him and works himself into full party boy mode before approaching Andrew in his studio. Problem is, Andrew is nothing like what he planned on meeting and the big, broad, stoic and very shy Andrew presents a bit of a challenge. He doesn’t seem to be entirely impressed by Felix on the surface but Felix isn’t one to be dissuaded easily and puts his skills and assets to work.

“Felix has been informed by just about every bloke he’d ever been with that he had an amazing arse, and as far as he could tell by craning around to look in mirrors and peering at friends’ video clips on their phones, they weren’t exaggerating.”

Andrew initially turns Felix down flat but when Andrew’s model for his final project has to abandon him he realizes that Felix could do him a quid pro quo favor in return by acting as his model in exchange for the suit. What starts as an uncomfortable arrangement for Andrew and an amusing arrangement for Felix quickly grows into something more. Felix realizes how much fun it is to flirt with and surprise Andrew, not just to get him to put out, but because he loves to see him smile. Andrew has been saving himself for Mr. Right and while at first, the shameless innuendos presented by Felix threw him off balance, he quickly grew fond and flattered by the flirtation.

“Andrew couldn’t help smiling at Felix’s persistence. It wasn’t like the bloke was being creepy and grabby or anything – it was more like a good natured flirtatious optimism.”

Felix has to go present his portfolio to Saul and has a couple of surprises handed to him. One, he’s informed that the new head of the school wants to see more of an emphasis on drawing and painting, so Felix better get some added to his portfolio stat. Secondly, he doesn’t feel the anxious excitement he always had prior when he was around Saul. He’s not sure what to chalk that up to just yet but the need to come up with some drawings prompts Felix to spend more time with Andrew. He’s decided to sketch Andrew while he works and the two of them fall into a routine and begin to spend a lot more time together.

Of course spending time together means SPENDING TIME TOGETHER and Felix’s guidance of Andrew into the wonderful world of sexytimes is both hot as all hell and damn sweet at the same time. Andrew had always fantasized that he would be the top and Mr. Right would be someone sweet, virginal and shy.

“He never let himself imagine that Mr. Right could in fact be a foul-mouthed farmboy turned artist. That Mr. Right could have been around the block a few times and wasnt ashamed to admit it. That Mr. Right could have tousled dark hair, satin smooth skin and a voice that melted against him like syrup, warm and sweet.”

I loved watching these two, with the set plans they have in their minds, be thrown off course by one another. Neither man would have imagined themselves with the other, but the unexpected revelations and tenderness they showed for each other was just perfect. The fact that Felix had quite a bit more experience worked out perfectly for Andrew. Andrew was able to dive into a few kinks that an inexperienced partner may not have been able to pick up on where Felix figured them out even before Andrew did and the result made for an incredibly steamy encounter.

Of course there was a “misunderstanding” and some communication issues that created some necessary angst, but not so much that it drew out drama for the sake of drama or took away from the sweetness of their new relationship. Instead it cleared up any lingering questions or confusion in a concise and efficient way.

Felix and Andrew fed off each other’s new confidences as real partners should and in the end Felix was able to make a request of Andrew as well. Which leads me to one of my favorite parts of this new version of the story, the Author’s Note at the end; the history of the author’s relationship with art education, Bath, the first incarnation of Tailor Made and the news that a sequel, Custom Fit will be released this summer. I can’t wait to see what Andrew creates for Felix to wear in the next installment.

Adorable.

Funny and cheeky with all the ridiculousness that Felix manages to say and do. In contrast to Andrew stoicism he's right over the top. His art concepts are the pranks you'd expect from that overly indulged, self importance that contemporary art reeks of and yet, you laugh.

Romantic tale of the sweet and the slutty. * Big grin*

Favorite quote:

Cute but not my favorite Jo Myles.

Also, Felix was gross because:

A) "Because you [Felix] carved a statue out of your own frozen urine last year, then let it melt all over the gallery?”

B) "I’ll be mixing mixing up some brown paint with sand and texturisers to replicate shit, and I’m going to roll in it.”

C)"Felix dropped the piece of spunk-smeared, floral-patterned viscose into the bin. “What? They’ll just think it’s glue or something when it’s dried.”

Dude! Who does this shit? GROSS!

Oh my! What a fun cheeky story of opposites attract. If you haven’t read Jo Myles before, well, you are really missing out. And if you know and enjoy her work as I do, chalk this one up as another goodie. I think one of Jo’s strongest suits is her lighthearted charm that filters through the story and lifts the corners of your lips as you read. Her characters are always top notch too, even when they wear a suit of smug illusions. Felix is the tart (ha! I love that) that proudly swaggers in this particular suit. He is everything that should be annoying but somehow he pulls it off as endearing. I absolutely adored him!

Felix is an art student wrapping up his degree.
Andrew is a fashion designer just beginning his studies.
Felix has the party hard and screw even harder philosophy. His heart was broken early on and he has sworn off boyfriends. His current endeavor is shagging his tutor. Andrew is holding on tight to his virtue for his dream man. They live blocks apart but in completely different worlds. However, as we all clearly know, polar opposites create the steamiest collisions. And knocking each other off their feet was just a happenstance.

What's to like: Felix is a hoot. He is self-absorbed and has no filter but when no one is looking he allows his true colors to shine. He's gentle, encouraging and kind, but don't tell anyone! He likes sex and luckily for Andrew he's an amazing lover. I melted when Felix guided Andrew through the first time jitters with a calm and steady hand. To counterbalance the ooey-gooey scenes they are hilarious. I smiled, giggled and burst out laughing. There is nothing quite like happy reading is there? Fabulous besties and beautiful artistic talents were other fond highlights for me. Their passion was palpable and I enjoyed the sketching and sewing immensely. The cover deserves high marks as well, it's perfectly...fitting.

What's to love: I love it when someone thinks they know what is best for them. They think they have a crystal clear vision of their ideal mate and their future....and surprise! They were so so wrong. Andrew didn't even want to give Felix a second look. Okay, well maybe a second but certainly not a third. He hasn't the time for immature mouthy men. He has a mission and Felix is not anywhere close to his plan of action. Speaking of, he wants to get some but he wants to save himself for Mr. Right. Mix in Mr. Naughtypants who is trying to maintain his reputation and we have an interesting concoction. Suddenly, Felix discovers he doesn't truly want to be the man he's worked so hard to become. He was caught up in the excitement and speed of his lifestyle but yearns for something different. He wants to be proud of his art and he wants to come home to the same man every night and he has a specific man in mind. Can he take a detour and steer off his current path? If Andy-baby is waiting around the bend, he thinks he can change his direction. But...what if he isn't?

Beware of: Writing on the wall and no, not graffiti. There isn't any mysterious plot. It is simple and sweet and completely expected...and to be honest, I'm not complaining. I was looking for a good time, and I got it. Thanks Jo!

This book is for: If you love innocent boys turning in their virgin cards and exploring the vast world of orgasms while they stubbornly try not to fall in love and British accents make your knees weak, I think this book is tailored just for you.

There is something that happens when I open a book from Josephine Myles. I get this insane happiness and rightness about what I am about to read before my eyes move over a single word. To quote a friend “She writes the best characters,” and I agree with this 100%. Tailor Made is just another reason for me to be a card carrying fangirl of Ms. Myles.

Felix McAvoy needs a suit made for his final art performance and this cannot be an ordinary suit; this has a lot weighing on it. Not only will it hold a grade, it’s also is the key to impress Saul, his mentor and finally get in to his pants. When a friend of Felix’s suggest he get the best to make his suit, we meet Andrew Wheeler. Upon first glance Andrew is not what he seems, ahem um…gay… and Felix being forever on the prowl finds this a chance to get what he needs and go for what he wants. After a bit of flirtatious persuasion, Andrew reluctantly agrees to make the suit since his model is now unavailable; a proper quid pro quo happens and the boys will work together. Now, Felix is known as a boy who gets around we learn Andrew is a virgin waiting for Mr. Right. But when Felix shows up for the first fitting and shows off his assets, Andrew is infatuated and decides that hormones, boners, and Mr. Right now might be okay.

If there was anything Felix didn’t know about charming gay and bi-curious men it could probably be written on a condom packet with space to spare for a few smutty drawings.

Felix and Andrew… these two boys are opposites and quite frankly I adore it when they are. The opposites attract vibe is one of my favorites; it can be a disaster of epic proportions but this author has a way that brings these two boys together with sweet, sexy, ridiculous and adorable situations.

Boys, you had me with this fitting and I loved being in both your heads. Felix, your name makes me grin. I loved meeting you leaning against the wall as you smoked and you inner dialogue is amazing. As someone who has random dialogue running through her mind on constant, I love reading characters that do the same thing. Oh and aside from the fact that you lay everything out there, even when it’s borderline inappropriate, you are unapologetic and simply just you. I heart you Felix. I do.

Andrew. You my dear where do I begin? Knowing that you are saving yourself for Mr. Right but your attraction to Felix has you doing what your libido rather than your brain tells you to do was a delight to read. What’s that saying about men and the real brain that leads them? I believed at some point you were going to start talking to your dick in the same way Felix did, as often as that boy turned you on. I adored how you let yourself go when you were with him. How you both were derailed with what you thought you wanted and came to accept that you could love the one you were with.

So, back to the story. Andrew and Felix are working together on Felix’s suit for his performance and Andrew’s need of a model. Felix goes to Saul with his pitch for his final and learns the school that was focusing on alternative art is now deciding to focus on the traditional once again and Felix needs to up his game with his life form art. Of course, Felix needs a model for this so he proposes that while Andrew works on the suit, Felix can draw Andrew as he works. A chance for them to work together; more often, more closely, and just more, more, MOAR.

Andrew had let his defenses down, shown his vulnerability, and it has been stunning. He couldn’t get the memory of that moment out of his head.

The boys are attracted to each other but the longer they spend time together, they learn that they have similar things in common other than art school. Andrew respects Felix’s fearlessness and Felix enjoys the brightness of Andrews smile and the unfamiliar tightness in his chest it brings. The boys set out for their work sessions and decide to give into the sexual attraction while Felix “teaches” Andrews the ways of gay sex so that when he finds his Mr. Right he will know what to do. Brilliant? Right? As the boys become closer, Felix starts to realize that the conquest of Saul is losing its fondness and that he likes to be around Andrew. Andrew realizes that though he had the idea of his Happily Ever After, the reality of what is in front of him might be the dream come true he didn’t know he wanted. Felix isn’t who he imagined falling for and if he is falling, can these two opposites work?

Felix might be Mr. Wrong in so many ways…no wonder people wrote sad songs about unrequited love. It was an absolute killer.

Tailor Made gave me a glimpse into the world of art students. As a girl who has always admired art yet, lacked zero talent, I enjoyed being a part of both forms each boy was involved in. The detail put into Felix’s paintings and Andrew’s suits gave me the visualization of being there, of seeing each color and feeling the fabrics as they were sewn together and put on the body. It gave me everything I needed to be in the moment. The boys were fantastic. The story was sweet with very little angst and it was yummy and smutty. Ms. Myles certainly knows how to bring that to the story. Oh boy, does she ever!

Not only was this story a great for me, it took me out of my awful mood immediately but the author’s note at the end? Knowing that we will be getting more of these two? Ack! I can’t wait. What a great gift after a great read.

A very entertaining and sweet short novel about an aspiring art student and a down to earth fashion student. Felix, the artist, is a party boy and only looking for the next lay, with a crush on one of his professors, when he meets Andrew whose help he needs for a project. Andrew is rational and somewhat shy, but very intrigued by the experienced Felix. Both characters are very likable and though the whort length of the novel it is NOT insta-love - high five for that!
Another high five for hotness :-)

Cute and adorable story about the "slutty" art student and the "prim and proper" fashion student. Felix is unapologetic and he makes me smile for his way of trying to coax Andrew out of his shell. It's a case of opposite attract, resulting in a nice read.

Josephine Myles is one of my must read authors and this book did not disappoint in any way, shape or form.

Felix - how do I love thee, let me name the ways....

Or not, but I am having a real thing for the more, vivid, characters in books at the moment. Along with Jay from Loving Jay by Renae Kaye and Kansas from A Different Dance by Nash Summers, Felix kinda stole my heart. Even though he was bratty and arrogant.

Andrew was lovely too - in a moody kinda way. Not boring but definitely a rock and I lvoed the fact that he was a tailor, or at least training to be, and he wasn't overly effeminate. Not that I'm saying tailors are or that I don't like effeminate characters, I do. I'm just glad he didn't fall into a stereo-type - it would have been very easy to do, to swap Felix & Andrew over...but no Josephine Myles nailed it, as ever.

If you've not ready anything from this author I suggest you remedy that right now. :)

This was simple and sweet and a wee bit hot. Since these are college boys, that sex doesn't always last that long. And when it does, we're told instead of shown.

The setting is fun and there are unique details given we're with Felix and Andrew at art school.

Things are made a bit obvious but it doesn't really matter when it's cute like this.

Definitely light, and yes I'll say it, fluffy, with a dash of friends and a pinch of humor.

It's a bit middle of the road for me, but this isn't meant to be some grand literary adventure. We get enjoyable young guys discovering that there just may be more to this thing between them than they had anticipated.

So, if you're looking for what I've just described, that's exactly what you'll get. :)

If Felix had been as shallow as he first appears to be I would not have enjoyed this book at all, but once I discovered how and why he acted the way he did my opinion of this book went way up. Love the artistic aspect of the book especially the tailoring. I've made some clothes before, so I know how much work goes into making something especially something that fits really well. A fun, and light hearted read.

This was a cute, comfortable read. It was very light and predictable, but that was exactly what I was in the mood for today. Unfortunately, my enjoyment was severely marred by formatting issues which should have been addressed before the ebook was released. I'll think twice before buying from this publisher again.

This was just adorable, about a total manslut and a total virgin waiting for his one true love. Can these two total opposites manage to find love together? And if they do, will they have enough common sense to tell the other?

Why yes, yes they can! I loved Felix and his totally out and proud ways, and I loved Andrew and his shyness. Saul was too smarmy though, but I think he was supposed to be.

Oh wow, I loved this!!! It was funny and lighthearted with characters that grow on you and that you can't help but love.

Felix is incredibly talented as an artist, but he chose the art school he is going to more because of its location (the beautiful city of Bath) and not because of its art program. And so, instead of honing his abundantly existent skills in painting and drawing, he seeks to find a new way every year to surprise his cynical tutors with their "the more shocking the better" attitude into giving him the best grades by showcasing the crassest sides of conceptual art. This year in particular, he wants to impress his tutor, Saul, the guy he's been hung up on for a while now. Saul is sexy, arrogant, and playing hard to get. But Felix is determined to get him between his sheets sooner or later and for that he's willing to pull off his best stunt yet.

His last and crucial project involves a suit and, of course, it needs to be tailor made - so he goes to the best fashion student around to ask him for help. Andrew is not impressed at first, but since he's in desperate need of a model, Felix and he make a deal to help each other out. Andrew isn't the sort for casual relationships, but Felix is gorgeous and seductive and way too easy and Andrew can't not give in. But Felix is only looking for fun while his ultimate goal, seducing Saul, is still always on the horizon. When Felix has to decide between the tutor that has been beckoning him for way too long, and Andrew the sweet, lovely guy that has become his friend and casual lover over the last months, who will he choose?

I loved the basic story of this - there was nothing heavy or angsty about it, it was simply cute, fun, and a pleasure to read. The artsy background of the story made it interesting to me, and Felix and Andrew were both so lovely I wanted to hug them (yes, it takes longer for Felix to grow on you, but he does, I promise :-D). Great book, awesome read! Definitely recommended!

I love this author’s work! She is able to bring two men who are as different as night and day together and make beautiful sweet man love. So is the case with Tailor Made, we have the fantabulous tart Felix and the virginal and shy Andrew. What both men have in common is that they attend the same art school and they are both set in their ways when it comes to how they live their life.

Felix is a manslut and he just does not care, he doesn’t pretend to be something he is not. He has been lusting after his art professor for quite sometime, and he has a plan to finally get him and he’s gonna need the help of fashion student Andrew to do it. What he doesn’t expect is that Andrew is not easily persuaded by sex; but where there’s will there is always a way. So shameful flirt Felix goes in hard (and I do mean hard).

In this case, opposites do attract and the boys find themselves needing each other. Yes, there is want and the uncontrollable lust but there is also the friendship that has been formed and the easy acceptance of each other. Andrew the virgin and Felix who is Mr Experience together is just right.

I loved how smiley this story made me, Felix is outrageous and you can’t help loving him. I find I like them when their super slutty, it makes when they find love all that much sweeter. Andrew is shy but he’s far from tame, he had some incredibly sexy moments. I can honestly say that when the bad meets the good, they f*ck amazingly (my cheekiness for the day). If you are looking for a light and fun read, then look no further this story is it.

A shot, but satisfying story. Felix is wicked yet honest and Andrew is his perfect complement - reserved yet curious and warm.

Great to read about arty types. Wished it had been longer really.
