'James' is the second book in Kathi S. Barton's "Samuel's Pride" series. If you've read book one then you'll know that James, aka Jimmy, is not only Samuel's best friend, but he's also a wolf-shifter who has pledged his loyalty to Samuel, joined his pride, and become his enforcer. He's also bound and determined to never take a mate … of any kind. But when Samuel has him take Kennedy's car to the shop to find out what the noise is and make sure it's safe since she's pregnant he winds up meeting Gabriel, aka Gab, the owner. Gab not only owns the mechanic shop, but she also is the mechanic during the day and at night she hunts rogue vampires and eliminates them. As a matter of fact, she's so good at her job that the vamps refer to her as 'The Silver Queen'. Oh, and by the way, she's a human. The only real help she's gotten with these endeavors are photos only of those she is to eliminate and the vampire she works for has hidden her scent so it doesn't give her away when she enters a nest. This storyline is quite intriguing with all the magic, vampires, and good vs. evil that takes place. Then add a Hero and heroine who neither want a mate at all, a Pride leader and his mate who want to continually play matchmaker and a fated mate chemistry that keeps their passion running almost uncontrollably when they finally come together and it made for a mesmerizing story that kept me glued to the pages. This is one not to be missed!

I love Kathi Barton, she always have these no nonsense heroines who take no prisoners. The poor men never knew what hit them.

I've read this series so many times and James and Gabby have to be in my top favorite couples list of all of Kathi's characters.
Gab works as a mechanic by day, but by night she is hunter taking out rogue vampires for Stephen. Having seen first hand what some of these vampires do to people, she's out to rid the world of as many of them as she can. She's a taken no prisoners kind of gal and sees no reason to rely on a man for anything.
Jimmy has recently helped Samuel start and set up his "pride" (I use this term loosely because his pride is a mixture of animals). He's experienced what it was like to have his heartbroken and would just as soon chew his arm off then trust another woman, even his mate.
With a vampire out to take revenge on the Silver Queen, Stephen, and a lower mage determined to unlock Valda LaRue's true power, both Gab and Jimmy have more on their plate than trying to figure out their mating.
There were a few things I didn't like about this book. The fact that before the book even ended we never found out if Gab was ever able to call her wolf, and if she never does why? I also would've liked to learn a bit more about Jimmy's past and why he no longer had anything to do with his pack, and what woman "broke" his heart.

Gabriel Parker is a human mechanic by day and the silver queen at night. A hunter of the vampire she is fueled by anger and revenge as she hands out justice to those that have crossed the line. She does not have the time or the inclination to be the mate to one bossy wolf as she has vampires to kill and cars to fix. Jimmy Burger just wanted to drop off the alpha mates car and walk away. He had no idea this little trip was going to complicate his life until his mate all but fell bleeding into his arms . I have to admit, Ms. Barton has a way of pairing some interesting characters together. They may not want to be mates but they can't escape ,making for some fun and exciting reading. Each story helps connect the couple from the previous one together keeping you up to date in what is going on in the pride. I love that Samuel has such a diversified pride and quite a few colorful friends. Both Gab and Jimmy are stubborn and all the mystical creatures that come to play make things interesting. Some new and unique twists on vampire killing , a vampire play for power and some snarky banter between characters are sure to keep you entertained. I look forward to seeing what happens next.

What a great second addition to the Samuel's Pride series. In this one we have hot sexy wolf shifter James Burger. When his best friend Samuel found his mate Kennedy, Jimmy told him in no uncertain terms, there was no way he wanted a mate....ever! Enter beautiful mechanic/vampire hunter Gab Parker. Having killed many vampire using silver coins, Gab is nicknamed the Silver Queen. She's made it her life's mission to rid the world of all vampires since her brother was turned without his permission and subsequent death.
When Jimmy finds Gab badly hurt, his wolf knows she is his mate, though she has no scent. After saving her he vows to stay away from her....yeah sure, like that's gonna happen! But Jimmy and his wolf of course can't stay away. Just one taste of his mate and hunky wolf is hooked for life.
With his new mate's life in danger as well as Jimmy's friend Samuel.....get this totally amazing book to read some of the frigging hottest love scenes from one of the best paranormal authors.

This book has some amusing scenes in it, some sex scenes (some of them good & not so good), it has lions, a bear, lots of vampires (some good & some bad), a very bad mage & some other surprises. James & Gabriel's story (& yes that's how her name is spelled) but most people call her Gab starts almost the same way as Samuel & Kennedy's in that James at 1st didn't want a mate too & tried to stay away from her. After James & Gab mate (& there's a story for that too) they are asked by Stephan, the good vampire if they would continue doing what Gab had been doing for him & they said yes; however I'm not going to tell you what she's been doing because that would spoil it for you however, it does have to do with the title of my review. This is the 2nd book in this series, it can be read as a standalone & does have a HEA & also those that you met in the 1st book are also in this book.

I love this book from the cover to the back. James was taking a car in for repairs when he met Gabriel (Gab) who was hurting from vamps that she took on and killed. James was stumped as to why he couldn't seem to get her off his mind due to the fact that she had no scent, he knew she was to mean something to him. Gab was working as a vampire hunter for someone that they both had in common. One whiff of Gab's scent and he knew she was going to be his mate but like most men he wasn't ready. Unbeknownst to them both their was forces working against them. Believe me when I tell you that not only will you adore Gab and James, and even the rest of this cast of characters, you will no doubt fall madly in love with them all and can't wait until the next book.

Wow this was the second book in Samuel Pride Series
Gabby was a vampire hunter James was a werewolf and just went with the flow
kind of guy .. While he took Kenndy's car to get fixed and he winds up meeting Gab.
While James was there Three vampires came in to take Gab out which she did get
hurt James felt the need to protect her .. Only to find out later she was his mate..
This story has up's and down's and adventure and action... This is a dark fantasy and erotic read
it's not meant for everyone , but those who likes these kinds of books it's a must read

Kathi S. Barton is an amazing author who can produce story after story in an amazingly short amount of time.
James moves along at a fantastic pace, has characters that you fall in love with and need to know more about and a story that keeps you entertained from the very first word of the first chapter all the way till the last word of the last chapter.
Way to go Kathi and can't wait for the next amazing read.

James is a wolf - he works for Samuel Payne. Gab mechanic and she hunts rogue vampires. She meets James when he goes to her garage and happens upon her battling a vampire. He is not looking for a mate but soon realizes that the mouthy Gab is his. No spoilers but this is one that you will definitely want to read to see how the sparks fly between these two - Kathi has definitely done it again with another great book. Would definitely recommend to everyone as a must read.

While I couldn't put it down, it was too confusing. Half the time I didn't know who was speaking and the plot had too many holes and the resolutions were very elementary.
I still enjoy Kathi's writing, but this one fell a bit short for me.

I find it hard to rate this series. I like the story being told but am not enjoying the writers style.
