Currents

On an oasis of secluded beach consisting of tunneled sea grape and breezy Australian Pine, Currents was composed in 2001 during calming retreats of sunshine and blue green salt water in the keys of vigor and youth. The style and nature of the book per-mutate sporadically or swirl together from poem to poem as the ebb and flow of Currents and all the title implies. Furthering the dualistic themes of Aflame (1998) and Falling Leaves Observation (1999)- Currents fluctuates between confessional catharsis and inspired ablution. The structure has been moderately adapted with the inclusion of relevant pictures, titles for each piece and sparse reformatting throughout to aid in this edition's fluency and permeation.

Casey Carter (1980- ) is an American poet, painter and songwriter. His books include: Currents (2006) Woods By Day Bars By Night (2012) Aflame (2016) Raw Heart Honey (2016) Falling Leaves Observation (2017) Green Satyr Wood Shrooms (2019) and Arcane Change (2020).

Proletarian Vitamins (2013) is the musical companion to Woods By Day Bars By Night.

His paintings include: Casting Nets (1999) Human Narratives (2005) Frequency Dreams (2012) Oregon Beeswax (2016) and more.

He is currently working on a 8th volume of poetry, a novel and recording a second studio album titled Skyscapes.

This book was in my opinion a well rounded book. Now allow me to explain. Most works only strike a chord with a few groups of people. Not only is this a universal book that most could find at least one poem they liked but it is also a great example of all the different forms of poetry. There was rhyming, non-rhyming, Haiku, and just about anything else you would want to read. I highly recommend this book to teachers and people with a well rounded mind.

When I first entered in the contest for this book it sounded different which is never a bad thing. When it arrived I stayed away from any review source about this book in fear of spoiling it for myself. When it arrived I had no idea what to expect but the poetry is different but in a good way. Definitely enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to anyone.

She has a way with words, simplest and to the the point.

An uneven, but solid collection of Poems. There were definitely a few poems that I really enjoyed. As with any collection of poetry, different people will have their favorites depending on what themes they connect more with.

Found this in a tiny library and sat down on a bench to read it before depositing it back where it came from. I didn’t particularly like this book of poems and my rating reflects my enjoyment of it and not the quality of the poems or if they were “good.” I have no idea what is qualified as good poetry. There were a few phrases/poems worth noting in my book and I will type them out here:

Panegyric

“If you ask questions enough, you will get some answers. Answers most people, and perhaps yourself, are not aware were given.

Ode to my friends in thinking their minds to be open
And with this esteem fetter themselves willingly.”

The Pride of Paper

“Do you feel proud that I confide — ?
Are you certain you receive,
All my mind and senses five outworn perceive?
Do you feel you’re all I have to show — ?
Yes, I swear, there are things you don’t know.”


And the first line in a poem titled “Aphorisms”

“Women resemble assortments and mixtures
Of lust-inflaming liquors!”

..... I mean what does that mean??? (I might be upset by it??? Casey if you see this review ever will you comment what that means, so I can know whether or not I should be upset?)

"Currents" is a small collection of poems that vary greatly in subject matter and length. I received it today, and read it withing 20 minut

Although Mr. Carter's poems were for the most part interesting to read, I was unable to really "feel vibes" except for about half.

My favorite is "Batteries and Carrers" since it hits so very close to home. I felt myself becoming part of the poem and shaking my head in acknowledgement - - - because I have "been there".

"III" and "Flying" are also very dear to me.
