Feara is a Black indie author and illustrator, passionately pursuing writing. For countless years Feara has suffered with social anxiety. In an effort to alleviate this anxiety, she immersed herself in the world of theatre, writing, and art, and although she has triumphed over major challenges, she still confronts it to this day.

Feara's name is a result of the alter ego character she crafted at the age of 9 in order to embody the antithesis of her own self; a fearless, strong, and enduring character. She uses this alter ego to empower her to work through her fear of failure and disappointment, thus the name ‘Feara’.

She considers her childhood in Japan after living there for a while as a child and gets inspiration from it. She wishes to see more representation of Black and Asian characters as the main characters in various genres.

Though it started off as a hobby, Feara enjoys writing and wants at least one person in the world to enjoy her stories.

Spoilers Triggers Ahead as Well.

StoryGraph: https://app.thestorygraph.com/reviews...

The main reason I decided to stop this one is because of the violence that is being brought upon the main female character on the hands of the secondary villain.

In the matter of 75 pages the secondary villain does this.

1. Kick her in the stomach repeatedly that forced her to have a miscarriage.
2. Hit her in the face, kick her in the stomach again and almost tried to SA her.
3. Threatened to scar Young Ji's little Brother face up with a knife if she doesn't divorce Young Ji.
4. Tries to strangle her after the brothel he was at catches flames.

This is just 75 pages in and I read on little to see if I want to continue just to find out that he stabs her as well.

In the first book, Shala had to deal with racism, sexism, being poisoned, almost SAed, and bruised, bloodied a little since she was a warrior. Also it was spread out through the course of the whole book.

But this.

It's too much for me especially how strong a character she is to deal with that much bullshit for one damn character in a short period of time.

Also the fact her miscarriage aka traumatic experience was used as a way for her to finally be vulnerable and actually open up to Young Ji.

All the while no one is not doing a damn thing while the dad and the crazy son is doing whatever the fuck they want to do and people keep telling her that she needs to be patient while not having a plan to get rid of them and put the main character who should be the rightful king back on the throne. While she's the only one actively trying to kill him and the main villain and shouldn't be because she needs to learn how to ask questions first and fight later which she's been fighting first and asking questions later since the first book. They keep dangling this stupid rule in her damn face over and over again that if she kills them even in self-defense that she gets killed. She is not being protected the way that she needs to be protected and it's pissing me off enough that I can't continue the story to see if she does get protected. Strong Black Woman needs to be protected as well.

I’m all for couples going through shit and coming out on top on the other side but it’s to much when you still got 200 something pages to go when you got that much shit happening in so little time.

My second problem with this book is the fact that there is no court/political intrigue going on right now behind the scenes. No freaking scheming to get power. Just the dad who woke up from his three year coma (with no one slipping no poison in his tonic to kill him while he was in coma I might add) just to terrorize Young Ji and the people again. Then you got the spoiled brat of a first crown prince who wants to be Draco Malfoy, Joffrey Lannister, and Ramsay Bolton all in one who just got back from being gone for three years (with no assassination attempt on his life while he was gone I might add) who is terrorizing Shala halfway to death because he's jealous of his little brother. With no one coming up with no plans to stop them at all. With us as readers not seeing who in the court is loyal to Young, who is loyal to the Dad, and Who is loyal to Son, who is just trying to get power and just be on the side of who gets it and how can they tip the balance to their favor.

Since I have watched Game of Thrones, Curse of the Golden Flower, other Korean, Chinese and Japanese Drama shows and also British shows dealing with the British and French Monarchy to know that you are fractions n the royal family/ courts. Which people are wheeling and dealing for power. Where you have fathers pimp out their own daughters to get closer to the king to get some power. (Cough the Boleyn’s cough). That’s what made Game of Thrones so fun to watch because who was trying to out scheme who for power.( cough LittleFinger Cough) It wasn’t just the battle scenes and the dragons who made it also cool.

The fact Young brother and Mother keep telling them “Oh hey get the counselors on your side" and they still haven't had a discussion about that and trying to figure out about each counselor?

If that was happening with Young Ji, Shala, Imamu, and Ji Hoon talking in secret trying to come up with a plan with who was on their side, while the dad doing the same thing with his folks , while the brother doing the same thing and might throw in the queen as well? Then I would forgive the violence being done because at least something is being worked towards trying to get rid of those two. I needed to see people scheming for power since you got three people buying for the throne.

I still love the first part but this one I just can't finish.

** slight spoilers **

This was ok. I seem to be the minority b/c I liked Volume I better. But, I was glad that my questions from Volume I were answered in this book. With that being said I felt like the story should’ve been a little bit more stream lined. There was a lot of things that were happening all at once and it seemed all over the place at times. A lot of the “reveals” or “surprises” I predicted , except for the two at the end with them finding Gojun , his family etc, and Jhie being the one to kill the King… this I had not expected.

I was also getting a little annoyed because I felt like Shala was constantly babying Young Ji. She was constantly putting herself on the line but at what point has he ever protected her? I just wished it was more of an equal or balanced relationship.

& Then the villains in the book were just brutes with no real reason, motive or purpose. What makes a good villain isn’t how horrible or violent they can be, but it’s more about their ideologies and how there are some parts of them that even we the readers can identify with… so to read just how horrible they all were — especially with the whole miscarriage situation — it was icky to read.

In theory this is a good story, or I at least feel like this had good potential— I could see this being a movie or show, but as a book I wish that a lot of the plot points and storyline was more streamlined.

Let us commence this review.

Despite the repetitiveness of certain conversation topics, Feral Kingdom: Vol II never lost my attention. The storyline carried the essence of a Korean melodrama. The topics of child abuse, sexual assault, murder, and more were interestingly developed.

I understand many will regard Young Ji as weak and indecisive. However, there is power in taking the punishment of others without being consumed by resentment.

The dynamic between Shala and Young Ji was heartwarming. Both characters required time to mature in relationships and communication skills. The relationship sometimes lacked trust because of Shala or Young Ji's selfishness.

My favorite character was the ghost walker. I would have appreciated more instances where she provided guidance.

Overall, Volume II should have been divided into two books. I believe the story needed more refining concerning the plot, characters, and aftermath.

However, I do appreciate Feara confidently releasing her art.

If I could've rated it a 3.5 I probably would've. I enjoyed Vol I so of course I started Vol II.
In this vol. there are a lot more I guess triggering(?) events happening all throughout the story, particularly concerning abuse, SA, etc. These things were kinda hard to constantly hear mentioned or witnessed for me personally. Furthermore, bad stuff is kinda happening constantly for the MCs so if you're someone that prefers a slightly more easy going book more similar to Vol II, then that might also be hard to read.
The ending seemed a little quick to me, but it wasn't too bad. I also wish the idea of the main leads being like fated(?) together was explored a little bit more too.
But besides those things, I still enjoyed reading this book. The Feral Kingdom has some really nice characters with great relationships, especially with the main leads. Some things get expanded on nicely from the first book while others don't, but overall it's nothing too crazy to worry about.

HEA

Finishing this series it was a roller coaster. Action, betrayal, love, crazy family reunions!! From book 1 to book 2 Shala character development was intoxicating to say the least. You can feel the struggling of her emotions and fight against her natural instincts of fighting first and thinking last. But when it comes to Young Ji you can feel her trying to be the wife he can be proud of on the flip side Young Ji had to literally get slapped up by Shala strength, fire, and loyalty to him for himself to crack that captian save everyone shield and stand up for himself and boss up! 10/10 series! I love the passionate scenes and description of their love making without being raunchy it was actually poetic. All have to say is they get it in! Lol I hope we can read more of their love story!!

Amazing...

I started reading the first book when I was on a 2wk cruise. I couldn't wait to get to a port to download the second. The details and the way everything is described (bc books are supposed to excite your imagination through the senses)... I'm utterly.. in joy. If there were any spelling/grammatical errors, I personally didn't see them. I can't tell if the author is black (as I only really read non-fiction by black women with black women as main characters.. my choice).. But the next book that fits that, I will be one of the first to read it. Lol knowing it'll probably get 5 stars too. Great book! Standing ovation!

The finale for this series was absolutely amazing. I loved how we got to see Shala and Young Ji’s relationship grow through all the trials and tribulations. I liked how Shala was becoming more in tune with her feelings and was working better on her communication. I also enjoyed how we learned a little more about their childhood, especially Young Ji’s. The plot was absolutely mind boggling. The twists and the secrets that were revealed was mind blowing. I’m absolutely in love with this series and I can’t wait to see what the author has in store next with this universe she created. Highly recommend.

This took a bit to pick up but when it did? IT DID!!! I'm just obsessed, sad it's over, love young ji(my king), Shala(my warrior queen) and every single person within this book, well except some ugly souls in here. Look nothing will make me forgive so many people within this book lol, like many people. The romance within is just chefs kiss, I need my husband obsessed and in love like this man or I don't want it. Overall I love it but not enough for like 4 stars. Bit of repetitiveness that could be avoided and just a tiny little bitty let down from the first volume.

The perfect duet

I am floored once again. This was an incredible end to Shala and Young Ji's story. Even though I was yelling and screaming at Feara to give them a break (they really go through some thangs), I simply couldn't put it down. As much as my heart broke with this book, Feara put it back together showing love can conquer all, everything, and everyone is connected, and family doesn't mean shared blood.

Watching the character development of the main protagonists was beautiful to read and experience. At certain points, I thought book would take a certain path but it ventured off into something completely different and exciting. Again, the grammar and editing could be better but like I said in the last review, it takes a lot to put your art out there. I also trust that the author will take the critiques and evolve from there.

I absolutely loved the first book & couldn’t wait for the second book but idk, this book didn’t grasp me like the first one did.

It felt very repetitive. At some points I was like “damn we’re still on this?? Damn they’re having this conversation again? Damn why are we still talking about this?” It was pretty frustrating & took me out of the book which made it hard to get through.

Gave it 3 stars because it was pretty interesting overall.

I don't think I have ever been so satisfied with an entire series as I have with this one; The writing was amazing and no plot holes at all. I am sad to see the story end and hopefully we will get a spin off or a novella maybe. I love how we grew with the characters each book, it definitely makes up for the cliff hanger that we were left with in book 1. I hope to see more works like this in the future I love how she abandoned the damsel in distress trope but the male lead was not a complete wuss either. You will not be disappointed I highly suggest this book. The right amount of action, violence and romance all in one.

Good Book!

I enjoyed the series and will continue to support the author. The author had a different disposition for each character, not one was the same. Although the time period was different with a little bit of fantasy, the issues that had taken place during that period ate very much relevant in a lot of families, communities and countries today. Well Done Feara W

Bravo!!

I literally gasped when I realized that the second book had been released soon after the first book. The author heard our prayers!
The second book is just as addictive as the first. With so many twists and turns, I pitied our heroes for it felt like they could never catch a break. This series has quickly become my favorite l! I will be reading it again!

A remarkable conclusion to this twisted tale of divided kingdoms, power and tyrannical rule. Young Ji and Shala are two very broken people but together they rise-up to overcome the atrocities they have experienced in their short existence. Like all relationships there is trial and error but through love and a deep need to understand each other their bond becomes unbreakable. With this 2 book series Feara who is relatively new is well on her way to a must read author. A truly riveting story.

Another Great Story

The sequel to Feral Kingdom continued a great story of political power struggles, wars between families and other kingdoms. Although there were some typos the story was great .

인생은 당신이 만들어가는 것이다

I quite enjoyed the second installment of Shala and Young Ji's story.
Through the adversity, surprises and heartbreak they stood by each other and had the support of their true family as well.

Vol II is WAY BETTER than the first book. The chemistry between Young Ji and Shala was off in Vol I. I super stiff and generally unrealistic? I didn’t buy it. Chemistry is off the charts in Vol II. Round of applause for the character development. Almost shed a tear for real and that’s rare.

The Villains stressed me TF out. Not gonna lie. I found myself swearing every two pages. Cuz, where did y’all even come from?!

There was so much action, my heart was beating slightly faster while reading. Just when you think it’s safe, here’s another subplot pushing the story forward.

It was an adventure and I enjoyed every minute of it. Probably my favorite read of the year so far.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel. However, it didn’t feel complete. It was rounded out pretty well, I still just felt there was supposed to be more. It didn’t feel like a natural ending, idk. Maybe I’m the only one to feel like that, but it felt incomplete. Still worth reading, I fully believe that.
