Challenge is inevitable. Defeat is not. In the gripping finale of this cross-country post-apocalyptic odyssey, Ben and his crew traverse the desolate landscapes of a world ravaged by disaster, facing untold challenges, and forging unlikely alliances along the way.
As Ben and the others approach their final destination of Durango, Colorado, the group is tested yet again on their final push home, confronting the ghosts of their past and the harsh realities of a fractured world.
In a climactic showdown against the remnants of a once-civilized society turned ruthless, the bonds of family and the strength of the human spirit are pushed to their limits. The journey culminates in an unforgettable and heart-wrenching conclusion, where sacrifices are made, destinies are revealed, and the true meaning of survival is discovered.
In the shadows of a post-apocalyptic sunset, Ben, Sandy, and the kids grapple with the bittersweet reality of a new beginning forged from the ashes of the old world. The last leg of their journey is a testament to resilience, hope, and the enduring power of the human will in the face of an uncertain tomorrow.
I don’t know… I’m glad this series is over it’s an easy read for a simple person but this series definitely has some flaws!
The dad is just too perfect, the constant fighting for their life every time they stop the car yet everyone is ok is so unrealistic! They can’t go 24hrs without coming up against a gang of people they have to kill to get away! All the way Home! Thank god this series is over!
Actually everything about this series is frustrating, but regardless of all the unrealistic things. Something that just didn’t sit right was the dad’s constant mumbling about the country was going to fall sooner or later due to all the “free loaders on welfare and that they just need to get off there’s ass and work”. Well guess what vets who served in war like this character also rely on those programs because most can’t hold down a regular job after the trauma they have been through when they were in war.
This writer seems like a Trump supporter who blames the poor for the country’s economic crisis when it’s the ultra wealthy they should be focusing on. Look what DOGE and Elon just did with Trumps approval they cut all the funding to those who must need it, disabled, elderly, single moms.. oh and you guessed it Veterans!!! They even cut their suicide hotline where war veterans could turn to when they felt they had no one to talk to and wanted to end their lives. These are the “free loaders” this author and his character keeps spewing about🤢🤮 yuck
Since when was empathy considered a bad thing? Apathy is what has killed the American dream and brought it to the brink of civil war.

I debated a bit on this rating, because the final book was quite short and had what felt like a lot of padding in the way of minutiae and introspection. Still, I have stuck through the series for 15 books now to this apparently last one. The writing and editing have been decent and I did like the characters. The whole series deserves a four and Ben and his crew deserved a final 4 stars for helping a woman and her granddaughter get home, had a satisfying end to the journey and saved an abandoned flag.
I really loved this series and would recommend it to people. I found myself collecting tips throughout the series of how to survive in a post apocalyptic world lol. The only thing that I strongly disagreed with was the family's attitude through this terrible journey. They are facing a world where there is death around every corner, yet they were always polite and happy. I don't think anybody would be that upbeat in a world like that. I listened to the series on audible and the narrator definitely exaggerated the happy attitudes as well, which didn't help. I think if I would have read the hard copy, I would have given the series 5 stars.

…when I turned the last page on Book 14 and didn’t find mention of the next book….I told myself that this author that I’d come to love but could come to dislike just as fast…surely, I mean surely would NOT end this series without the reader knowing whether the group made it back to Durango or not!! So, you have saved yourself by writing this last book. It was as great as all those that came before it! Thank you! Please keep em coming!
This is the final book in the Dark Road series. The series should be read in order. I am sad to see this excellent series come to an end and hope we get a follow up book in the future to see how Ben and his family are doing now that they are home. The whole series was great. The characters seem real and the plot moved very quickly. There is plenty of action and no foul language. I will be reading more of this author’s work.
Bruno Miller ended the series on a great note. I do wish it would continue but I understand all good things must come to and end. Well done Mr. Miller, looking forward the continuing saga of the Dark Waters series with Book 3. Of course the Cloverdale side series was excellent as well. Bruno Miller looking forward to more books by you. Thank you.
This series has been a wonderful ride! I eagerly looked forward to each book coming out and am a bit sad that this is the end of the cross country madness. That being said, this book was great & I'm glad Ben & the crew were part of my reading journey!
The strength to continue, to stay aware and safe from the chaos becomes ever more challenging even though they continue Westerly. But, as each mile slides by a tiny glimmer of hope begins to grow.
Danger continues, but our heroes work hard to stay secure. The journey continues.
Good ending. We will always wonder how they fare now that they are back. Overall it was a good series with a few instances where we would have liked to tell them to get smarter and be more suspicious. As a series it was about a four star. Five star ending though. Thanks. Looking forward to book three in the Dark Waters series in July. Keep up the good work.
I did enjoy the entire series. I wish there was like a small 6 month jump at the end updating us on how things were going. I didn't like all the details of the guns in some parts and would skip over those sections and not lose any details about the group. I recommend this series!
This final, long awaited installment in the superlative post-EMP saga is a satisfying conclusion to the craziest post-EMP series I've read. I won't say more than this: you won't be disappointed!
I certainly enjoyed this book with its strong characters and their ups and downs through an ever changing apocalyptic USA. The only thing I would change is its ending. I think it could go a couple of more books before end but I happy with it the way it is.
Heartbroken that this is the last book of the series. I have read every book in the series including the companion series Cloverdale. I enjoyed reading everyone.
Mr. Bruno please consider more books in the series.
Excellent series. Good character development which left you invested in their journey. No lack of excitement resulting in an inability to stop reading into the early hours.
The ending to a horrific journey. Ben, Sandy, Joel, Alley, and the others forge ahead to reach their final destination in Durango Colorado. The group has to fight of crazy people and forage for water and gas. They are finally home.
This whole series was amazing! This family became my family. It was so well written that it just sucked you right into the heart of things right along with the characters. Great job Bruno!!
What a remarkable story!! Had me on the edge of my seat as if I was a passenger along for their harrowing journey. If I was one to bite my nails they'd be gone ....highly recommend this. Bruno Miller is a natural storyteller. Looking forward to more of his books
Is this the ending? I'm sure that there might be more. If it is the end of this series, I will be so disappointed. im sure you could be able to squeeze a lot more books of new adventures. Good series.
How nice to read another book in this great series! It was as though I was able to check in on family & friends, seeing that they made it home. So is there another book after this one?? Wouldn't that be nice!!!
I've thoroughly enjoyed going on this trip with Ben and the gang. So much so that I hate it's come to the end. I really wish there was one more book, detailing what happened after the long road trip was done.
A final ending of the long journey back home after reuniting their families. I actually would enjoy a followup on how they manage the world going on, and rebuilding their lives
Extreme sports has nothing on this extreme adventure ride! A lot of books in the series, yet not enough. I would love to have a sequel, of sorts, telling the story of how they establish a. new place in which to survive. So well-written. Loved it.
Absolutely loved this story couldn’t wait for each book to come out. The characters were believable and the story fast paced keeping me on the edge of my seat. Highly recommended.
From the first book, this made me think about the impossible odds this group was up against. Enjoyed the retrospective dialogue, and every element of the series. Can’t wait to read the next series. Thanks for a great adventure!
Great series little too much detail I had to scroll past and finally they made it to Colorado and that's it. Needed an epilogue to let that readers know how their life is going or another book!
I can't recommend this series more! Every word in every 15 books was enjoyed and loved. Each character s like a family member. Many tears and a few laughs! I will read every book that Bruno Miller writes.
Can’t rate this series highly enough. I’ve literally gone through the whole series in 2 weeks. Epic story with lots of action and excitement while you get to know the main characters. I was so sad that they’ve come to an end. Highly recommended.
I was holding my breath in so many parts of this book! I didn't want it to end and hopefully more books will follow so we know what happens next! Great writing!
Wow! This 15 book series kept me up day and night. Thankfully all the books are available. Great cast of characters and great writing. I want someone like Ben if the shit hits the fan!
