Lingering Hostilities: A Post Civil War Western

Rate this book
1865: The American Civil War is over. Some, though, can’t accept the outcome.

With nowhere to call home, displaced Northern veterans Arthur Bayles and Lowell Fischer seek refuge in Kansas City.

Having lost everything to the war, the two best friends decide they need to leave their devastated hometown in the north to start over.

Captain Halsey Withers, a bitter Confederate veteran, isn’t too pleased to have two robust northerners waltzing around in his neck of the woods. A deep-rooted hatred for all things of the north, Halsey Withers and his son, Freddie, set about to make life as difficult as they can for Arthur and Lowell. Many in town share their sentiments.

Tensions run deep and hostilities flare.

Will the townsfolk continue living under the near tyrannical, self-imposed rule of the old war veteran or cast aside their differences and side with Arthur and Lowell?

Arthur and Lowell proves themselves to be very good in their respective roles, over and over!

Most definitely another five star masterpiece by one of my favorite Authors, as these two northern veterans of the Civil War proves themselves to be a force in protecting their new southern township from the bad guys!
Once again, Mr. Slade pulls no punches in his descriptiveness of each and every storyline, as this outstanding series of unending endeavors will definitely keep anyone turning pages to see what happens next! No slowdowns from beginning to end! Too, the superbly character selections could not have been any better in their respective roles throughout the entire series of unending excitement!

Lingering hostilities for sure. Arthur and Lowell are friends from the north who want to settle in Kansas City, which is "owned" by southern Captain Withers. They quickly show their worth to most of the town by becoming stage coach guards and making it possible for the banks to safely transfer money again. Withers seems to have his own army and people that are just plain afraid of his power. The northern boys aren't that easy to kill. Excellent read and no profanity.
