Novella two of the Church of Ill Repute. A sci-fi action-adventure series centered on an ensemble cast. Everyone has a reason to fight, but some have reasons more noble than others.The First Chelice Militia’s ‘finest’ recover from their mission to Arcady. Lessons and mistakes are turned into training. One thing above all is they continue their learn, adapt, and improve. Become the veterans needed to help their militia. Vox, on the other hand, has a different mission. He is giddy with the release of the Confederate Papers - a hacked list of war criminals in hiding. Mercenaries are flush with bounties and Vox wants in on it. Their next mission will take them to Corus’ sister planet Nyx. Just one problem, they don’t know who their bounty is. So, it’s off to New Vancouver to find one person hiding in a city of millions.

Ntxhi has her own problem. Vox has another mission that he’s taking her on and refuses to elaborate. She’s off to the Fitch system’s center of cybernetics, Topsia Ward.

NEW VANCOUVER is the second instalment in J. Hare’s adult CHURCH OF ILL REPUTE sci-fi, space opera novella series. This is the continuing story of the spaceship CHURCH OF ILL REPUTE and her crew The First Chelice Militia, lead by Lepus Vox.

Told from several third person perspectives NEW VANCOUVER focuses on the ongoing training of Vox’s team, and their latest assignments to retrieve a war criminal, and a personal mission for the man in charge. The personal mission goes easy enough but Vox will quickly discover said war criminal refuses to cooperate, insisting on taking down everyone involved.

NEW VANCOUVER is another action packed, dramatic and intense story line. The premise is entertaining and detailed; the characters are energetic and determined-Vox continues to struggle with a team whose skills need practice and improvement.

Compelling storytelling. Fleshed out world building. Has sci-fi elements of space travel to different planets, alien races, cyborgs, technologies for action packed combat and everyday use. Realistic characters that made me cry and laugh as I followed their journey and growth. Characters include non-binary characters and individuals of different ethnicities. You get to watch the characters grow instead of having an overpowered character whose background and ups/downs are unknown. Currently shipping certain characters together because of their well written relationship, love, and concern for each other. Already bought the next book!
