***ARC Review***
I had high hopes for this book, and wasn’t *completely* disappointed, but it was a tough start. The story was sweet, and I liked the characters, but wish they had been a little more fleshed out. We needed more brooding from Flynn. Lorraine needed a bit more personality. I didn’t quite understand how they were able to form a connection, especially a lasting one.
Everyone claimed Flynn was tortured, mourning his wife, refusing to enter the house, but it took Lorraine what, less than a day to get him to be like “Wife? What wife? Let’s have sex.”
The subplot with Travis was wrapped up too easily. There wasn’t enough emphasis on the drama that happened. That deserved more attention and suspense.
The spice was…good? Ish? Again, it had potential, but never quite got there. If a cowboy threatens to tie a woman up, then he better tie her up, dammit. If he repeatedly talks about her riding his face, don’t abruptly end the scene right as it starts.
Maybe the book should have been longer? That might have given more story and plot and made things seem more believable. As it is, I just feel unsatisfied.
And don’t even get me started on all the typos and grammar errors. At one point the author switched tenses right in the middle of a sentence (the book is 3rd person POV). It was tough to read.
Example: “The dry ground crunches under my fuzzy house shoes, and she stops when I reach the fire pit”
The series has potential, and I may read the rest of the books as they come out, but I wouldn’t consider myself excited about it.
