Banished from her tribe, Nuchzetse (New-zet-see) has no intention of honoring her punishment as a ward to an elderly shaman with a neighboring tribe. That is, until she meets the striking Oneida Bear Clan leader, Lone Star. Even though his contempt for her is obvious, she wrestles between a desire to win his favor or, escape the judgment holding her free spirit captive.
The very fate she has mocked her entire adult life sends her on a dangerous journey that tests the essence of who she is and the woman she secretly wishes to become. Captive Heart ~ Book 2 of the Iroquois Series ~ is a soulful story of spiritual rebirth, and a passionate love that blossoms during a difficult journey of revelation.
I was an avid reader of romance fiction before I was able to follow my dream of becoming a published author.
It took nearly thirty hard-knock years before beginning that journey. If not for them, however, I never would have known how to create the kind of raw, human, emotion I want my readers to feel during their journey into my world of contemporary, historical, and suspense romances.
You'll find my characters relatable, flawed, sometimes wounded and broken who eventually find what we all seek out of life ... a deep connection, being understood and accepted, and with an ever-lasting love grown from it all. I write about life and the lessons learned from its experiences and welcome you into my world. Be prepared to laugh, cry, and hopefully be inspired in some small way.
Have a blessed day & hugs from me to you.icons located at the bottom of my w
A must read! Actually rated this novel 4.5. Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:
Nuchzetse, the daughter of a Seneca Clan leader, had been spoiled since birth by her father and now hated being controlled by men and treated like a slave. She had been in love with Winnokin. They had grown up together and the whole tribe thought they would wed, but he had given his heart to a white woman…Leslie, who the Senecas had dubbed White Dove. After trying to kill the war chief Winnokin’s new bride, not once but twice, Nuchzetse had lost honor and became an outcast. A Seneca, she had dishonored her family so she was banished to live with the Oneidas, another of the Iroquois tribes, and was now virtually a prisoner of Gray Owl, a shaman, although he treated her as a guest. She was not used to doing a man’s bidding. Although many men had desired her for her beauty, she had not succumbed to any of them and she had never respectfully bowed to the will of any man, except her father. But Lone Star was different and she could not help giving him her favor, though she did not do it willingly. Opinionated and quick-tempered, she did what she pleased. Although she was attracted to Lone Star, she knew she could never be as one with his people, who looked at her with contempt and excluded her from any social activities. So she had made up her mind. Once she could win Gray Wolf’s trust and accept being his ward, she would escape, although it would take some time to ration away her supplies, especially with Lone Star watching her every move. But she was a seductress and accomplished at tricking people into doing whatever she wished. Still filled with her hatred of White Dove, she needed a diversion. The other women would not speak to her, often scorning her. But, as she spoke to Gray Owl and doing some spiritual introspection, she secretly began helping the needy of the Oneida tribe. She now knew what she had done to White Dove was wrong and was upset that the people would not give her a chance. Her one friend, other than Gray Owl, was Monsumi, a ten-year-old child who had witnessed and was party to Nuchzetse’s many kindnesses.
The well-being of his village was the Oneida Bear Clan Leader Lone Star’s main concern. He would not let a willful woman disrupt this. Due to his compassionate heart, many heroic deeds and accomplishments as a hunter, the fierce warrior was held in high regard by his people. It was believed that he would be next in line for the title of Sachem once Rain Dancer passed on as Rain Dancer had three daughters and no sons.
Lone Star is finding it hard to ignore the passion he feels for Nuchzetse. He would love to be the man to share her pallet and tame her wild side, knowing she would be unlike any woman he had ever been with. However, he could not ignore her dishonor. He could not let her know of his feelings because he was sure she would use them to get what she wanted. As he secretly watches her, he is amazed at her abilities and childlike innocence. He is conflicted between his duty to his tribe and his feelings for her. But when danger strikes, he would move heaven and earth to protect her. Will his tribe accept her as his mate, or is she not the one destined for him?
A poignant tale, CAPTIVE HEART, the second book in talented author Cynthia Roberts’ IROQUOIS series, is a warm, passionate historical romance that will transport you back to colonial America. This tale of spiritual rebirth and passionate love gives insight into the Indian people, who are often thought of as savage, but in reality only seek to peacefully coexist with the white man. There are lessons that we could take from them. They live off the land, not depleting it, but honoring it and live close to their God, thanking Him for their blessings and seeking His guidance in their every action. This beautifully written story will touch your heart as it gives a perception into another way of life. By combining love, passion, hatred, danger, spiritual guidance, kidnapping, violence, remorse, Indian customs and legends as well as second chances, Ms. Roberts has penned a story that is unforgettable. Whether you are a fan of colonial and Indian romances or not, I believe you will enjoy this story. This book can be read as a standalone, but for additional enjoyment, do not miss the first book in this series, WIND WARRIOR, the tale of Winnokin and White Dove. I recommend CAPTIVE HEART and look forward to reading more of Cynthia Roberts’ works.
This beautiful story follows Nuchzetse, a young woman cast out from her tribe and forced to find her own way in the world. When she meets Lone Star, her life changes, and together they begin a dangerous journey that keeps you completely absorbed from start to finish. It’s a powerful tale about independence, courage, and discovering love when you least expect it. The story shows that no matter your past or where you come from, love can still find you. I highly recommend this inspiring and deeply spiritual book — I simply couldn’t put it down and enjoyed every moment of it.
A beautiful story about love and redemption. I especially love how the heroine saw her old behaviours in another woman and realised the errors of her selfishness and behaviour towards others. No one is perfect, and we must all realise that. Not everyone learns from their mistakes the way Newchzetse did, but there are people who genuinely do in real life. And Lone Star, treating her with contempt at first, but then seeing the positive change in her.
This is a great book, with a good story line, about a young Native American woman, and the trials she goes through to finally get together with the man she loves.
This is a wonderful story of Nuchzetse ,she had been banished from her tribe. She finally met Lone Star and goes on a dangerous journey that will keep you reading. This is a story of a free spirit, that finds love, which shows you can find love no matter where you are in life. I would tell anyone to read this amazing, spiritual book. I could not put it down.I loved it!:)
3.5. It's somewhat difficult for me to review this book. I absolutely loved Wind Warrior and in some way, expected to be equally awed by this sequel. Unfortunately this one fell somewhat flat for me. I hate to be so picky since I loved the storyline, but I have a few gripes to contend with. This book really needed an editor (or a better one?). I probably would have bumped this rating to a 4 had there not been such an abundance of grammatical errors. I actually had to stop myself from going at it with a red pen which is not stomething I want to think about while enjoying something so good. Additonally I think there were some flow issues and a slight lack of development. I felt like everything moved so fast and I just needed more details before moving on. Anyways, great story, but could could have been amazing with some editing and a little more development.
Waited a long time for Cynthia's 2nd book to come out and it was sooo much the wait. I liked that she made the antagonist, Nuchzetse, the main character and once I started the read I could not put it down. Her journey was truly one of self-discovery and the tension between her and Lone Star I was glad to see turned into one of hot, hot, hot passion. I love a story where the emotional connection seems real and your drawn into the character’s mind. I could picture the scenes and settings clearly and felt I was there right along with her. Hoping there's a Book 3.
